Hey,
I have an NP700G7C S01-SE. and Im wondering that it is possible to use an external desktop GPU via the WIFI's 4x PCI connector? Id really love the extra GPU performance but I cant buy a new laptop/PC and with this CPU/RAM Id only need a better GPU. Is this possible like this?
-
Not too sure but you need allot. If this were too work you also need an external power supply. Not too sure the hardware would be recognized or not as it is not designed for this type of hardware. It is a nice thought but an expensive venture just to test out.
Also as in the video, watch for white listing too.Last edited: Oct 6, 2015 -
So its not recommended at all. I see. Thx
-
Can not say one way or the other. Just allot of money for something untested. That is just IMHO.

Hi people
Been using this laptop for 3 years now. As solid as ever but its been heating too much and making a lot of noise nowadays. Should I change the thermal paste. I am not a rookie about computers but I have never changed thermal pastes before. Is it hard to do? I remember a dissasembly manual here. I can dig it and find it but that sounds really scary thing to do. Especially the gpu are heats up. Can i change its paste as well? I can order a thermal paste but I dont wanna break my computer :S What are your suggestions? -
I've changed the termal paste both on the cpu and the gpu. Im gonna be honest from dissasembly to reassembly and to boot it took me and my brother 8 hours..Keep in mind that it was the first time I ever did anything like this. Its not that hard but it worth it -
It is without a doubt a large job as to get to everything you have to fully pull this laptop apart. Well worth it in the end but large job.
-
Ouch :/ Well thats sad. I would rather not do it then
How about any easy way to clean dust at least? -
The CPU is front side access so you only have to pull it 1/2 apart. Th GPU is on the backside so the motherboard has to be separated from the case. This system was not designed to be pulled apart on a regular basis. Once you have done it the first time though it becomes easier.

Is anybody of you turn to Windows 10?
I have NP700G 7A and not 7C (as you) but it's for me very useful to know it because our notebooks are similiar (although you should have 8.1 drivers while I have only 8 drivers). -
Again other than the AMD stuff the 8.1 drivers are available under different model numbers for the G7C, the only other major difference is the proprietary 3D BT device.
-
You mean that I can look for example for ModeShift and Settings for my G8A 8.1 drivers to the G7C in SWU?
2)
And If I understood good, that 8.1 driver/softwares will be compatible with Windows 10? -
I will guarantee cross model compatibility. But as far as the G7C and A the majority of the hardware is the same.
-
For Gods sake arent GAMING laptops supposed to be easy to dissamble so we can change more stuff in it??!
I watched a bunch of dissambly videos of lesser low or mid tier laptops and all they do is to remove a few screws and bam they can access cpu & gpu.
So do I have to remove keyboard to change thermal paste? Can i not simply remove the back cover and do it like other laptops out there?
How did anyone else remove the ODD? It seems to stuck just when i am about to remove it and i broke a part of the odd case. I removed all screws for ODD(just one, maybe two) but it just doesnt get removed! (I dont even know if it is relevant for thermal paste change)
Also those tiny white screws are giving me nightmares.
Lastly how stupid was I to do this but its too late to back off...
Edit: Okay after numerous attempts to unscrew two white screws my palms hurt and full of red marks due to screwdriver. I removed a lot but stuck on two of them. I dont think i can proceed without removing them. (One under ODD, other under battery)
So can anyone help me what kind of a screwdriver I should buy (from Amazon)?
Edit2: Managed to remove the keyboard. (It is bent for sure) Now Remove top cassy from bottom. How do i do that? The manual keeps going on and on and on about the most useless stuff but disassembly takes only 2 and a quarter with smallest pics and lines possible. Should I jam a screwdriver between the black and gray-ish surface and force it open(right next to dolby sign?) Do I have to unscrew that 2 screws before that?Last edited: Jan 8, 2016 -
Ok I did it. Finally...took a lot and it was hard. Computer booted up well and checking device manager at least many things are recognised and i am not smelling any burn....but now i have a major issue...touchpad doesnt work. It is now shown in device manager and there was a blue light on top of the mouse clicks well it doesnt light as well.
Unlike many people out there I DO use my touchpad and it makes things easier combo'ed with a mouse. I dont even remember disconnecting this and I am sure I havent left anything disconnected. Dont think anyone will bother to reply but still...
Also I didnt spread the thermal paste. Should I have done that? There was a lot of debate regarding this. And I will never disassembly a laptop again.
Edit: Oh my, the blue light just "magically" appeared but the touchpad is still not working :'( clicks are not registered too :'( Such a fool was I disassembling this. It will still burn when gaming anyway. -
Hello,
My S7G suddenly decided to stop recognizing hard drives. They show in the BIOS as SATA devices, but nothing at all shows in the boot options menu and system will not start. Also unable to boot off disc. I fear motherboard failure, but currently trying to disassemble just to make sure all connections are good, but stuck at bottom cover removal. There seems to be something holding it tight just between the VGA and HDMI outs, and I do not see a screw anywhere. Any ideas? On the removal or even the root of the problem.
Thanks,
Tom -
I don't have firsthand experience with the G7C and unfortunately @TANWare is away at the moment.
My first suspicion would be the hard drive itself. If one of the first sectors went bad, that would lose the boot sector and partition table. So it would show up as a SATA device, but no drives would show. A low level format might get it workable again, but better to replace the drive -- if that is indeed the problem.
But it sounds like this is happening with two different drives, is that correct? If so, I agree, a cable or controller (i.e. motherboard) problem is more likely.
You could also try resetting BIOS, since that too could have effects like this. Use the Default Settings option in BIOS or, for a more thorough cleansing, extract the BIOS update utility and use it to completely clear the NVRAM (use the guidance here -- which is written with unbricking in mind, but should still apply).
Goo luck. Please keep us posted.
@vesayreve: I fully understand your frustrations: I've had to disassemble my old HP HDX18 recently, mainly to replace an inverter in the display assembly, but I used the opportunity to also repaste the CPU and GPU -- which on this laptop requires removing every single component, no exceptions, in order to get to the system board. The HDX18 (like the G7C) was meant to be an entertainment/gaming machine, and clearly easy disassembly was never a consideration in its design. -
Hi everybody,
my question is about "ModeShift" that you should know.
What exactly does the "Limit services" tab?
It limits the Samsung services (SW Update etc.) or the Windows services? -
I do not use the feature, nor have it installed now, but memory serves that it also delayed some normal system services. I am not a gamer so I never really saw a performance enhancement from it.
-
Hi guys,
I am upgrading to W10 and I get "Settings" from Samsung Update for G7C model (I owe the G7A but it's ok).
Now I am looking for ModeShift for Windows 8.1 but I can't find it in any model of G7C including the one some of you suggested me.
Where I can get it? -
Most recent version I have;
www.pcambrosia.com/NP700G7C/Software/ModeShift_2.0.0.1.zip -
I guess there're not differences between 8 and 8.1 I am right?
-
No, the 8.0 version will most likely not work on W10. I believe this is for the 8.0 version only. I do not think they put out a Modeshift for 8.1 that will work, at least not specifically for our laptops.
-
It works fine (ModeShift for W10!)!!!
-
Great that it works, the release date of 2012 for it made me skeptical.
-
Encountering keyboard issues, approx 20% of the keys have stopped working including the space bar which is a pain!

Just discovered that NP700G7A has a normal gpu on board, I mean that is not manufactored from Samsung and it's not solder to the motherboard.
Now that I am aware of this beautiful thing, might you advice or just tell me exactly what's the most powerful gpu that i can put on it, compatible with my motherboard?
I am very happy because I thought that the gpu were fixed and that i cannot never update it!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
You would have to get a modded system BIOS as the vbios is integrated into the system BIOS. You can't just switch out.
Sent from a 128th Legion Stormtrooper 6P -
If I buy another amd hd 6790m (the same model) i will have the same problem to get the modded bios???
That in case my gpu would broken. -
If your present GPU is broken then a replacement board would work. It has to be the exact replacement board, not just another MXM board.
-
I didn't understand might you be more precise? I'm not an expert.
Also, in case I want to buy that piece, do you advice to order directly from Samsung? -
I do not think Samsung has these anymore. There used to be a few that were floating around ebay from donor systems. Regular mxm cards have proven so fat not too work but original cards from donor systems should be fine so long as they are the same card.

While still expensive I found this link for those needing a battery.

Another repository of parts, that battery though looks funky for our laptops.

Besides Windows 7 as the primary OS I decided to install Linux Mint 18.1. Our machine requires a bios change here for dual boot to work. This has to do with UEFI
Our bios is not a true UEFI implementation. We have a setting called "UEFI compatibility". With this enabled the install disk forces that mode on and will not set grub as a dual boot. With that disabled in bios grub sets up fine as dual boot and after all is over you can enable it back on.Dannemand likes this. -
This is my current setup, I just ordered an Acer CZ340ck monitor. Through DP 1.1 it should work fine for 3440x1440 60Hz. It supposedly is 75 Hz capable but I am not sure if that will work or not, not allot of headroom after 60 Hz at 3440x1440. I know it will only be 8 bit instead of 10 but I think I can live with that.
Edit; I may be in trouble. The 675m lists a maximum digital resolution of only 2560.
Last edited: Apr 8, 2017 -
In researching it seems the 340x1440 monitors were put on the market after the 675m. Nvidia etc. would not have been specified to the resolution as the time of manufacture as it was not available.
DP 1.1a is good to about 8.6 Gbs and 3440x1440 60hZ at 24 bits is 7.96 Gbs so it should be fine. I just will not be able to do 30bits or 75Hz. At least this technically where I should be. -
NVidia is a pain in the butt. In windows I can barely get 2560x1080 to work, in Linux 3440x1440 75Hz and nvidia info shows 4 lanes at 2.7 Gbps
-
Well the Windows driver has limited the system. I can only do 2560x1080 at 75Hz. Well Linux Mint allows 3440x1440 75Hz and per x-server nvidia is 4 lanes. So apparently this system is capable of DP 1.2
-
Here is a pic running Linux;
Edit; Through custom resolutions I was able to get 3440x1440 60Hz working in 32 bit color in Windows 7.
Edit 2; found the settings to get 3440x1440 32 bit 75Hz working in W7.

I finally went ahead and put in a I7-3940xm. This too replace the i7-3820qm that was installed already. Price was only $230 USD so I had to do it. While no real boost as the +400 of the 3820 was already activated in UEFI, I wanted to get rid of the QS status chip and have the real deal OEM.
-
It has been just about a week since installing the 3940xm. I used ICD as the TIM, originally the install was a silver paste. I noticed, since day 1, that with Prime 95 core 1 would get to 90c but core 8 would go to 99c and throttle down to 3.2 GHz on occasion. Now I get 3.4 GHz and see occasionally 3.5 GHz and core 1 would got to 90c but core 8 only sees 92c . at first core 8 would get higher but now the the ICD is broken in and thinned out it is much better.

Wow can't believe there's still a little action for this beast. I still have mine hanging out in storage. It was still by far the quietest 100W GPU laptop I've owned.

Hi guys !
I update my system to windows 10. The lights red when sound playing stop work. Any tip for this ? -
Hello
which version need to use nvidia drivers 675mx for this device current os : windows 8.1 -

I have not had issues with any drivers at least so far. do you overclock the card?
