(as in, the backlight would break over the course of 1-3 months, then I'd send it in and they would replace it, then it would break again, etc.)

ah...that doesnt make me feel better about the purchase...lets just hope samsung starts getting this thing out the door asap
because i want a new laptop asap
i really honestly would not have hesitated to buy this laptop had it been available october 2nd -
Wait for Galaxy S-III (coming soon).
-
I just hope they don't srew up the new UI of 4.0 with TouchWiz! This is ugly.
-
nah....i prefer to keep stock android and get updates faster.
lets not get off topic here. its not a phone forum sorry i brought it up lol -
This is a dying thread anyway, Samsung's not feeding us any news.
-
maybe...they decided that they need to tweak and change a few things with the series 7...
?
i wouldnt put it past them samsung completely rethought their tablet lineup after they saw the ipad2 -
The impressions posted by the owner of the non-BB model breathed some life into the thread.
-
Well, on the German Amazon page someone posted a review:
to sum it up:
-lightweight
-brilliant and very bright screen
-automatic display and keyboard lighting with sensor
-fast start with express cache (30s cold boot/3s standby)
-fast loading programs
-very sensitive touchpad
-as expected: useless Samsung bloatware
-4 hours battery with "normal" usage -
I currently have a Dell Studio XPS 1340 which runs seriously hot and averaged about 2.5 hours of battery life at most. I'm very much looking forward to anything greater than 4 hours with normal usage. 8 hours would be exceptional.
-
Maybe the hard-drive shortage has to do something
Hard drive shortage looms as floods breach western digital plant- The Inquirer -
A test say that it runs during 8 hours on some word, office (with brightness at 30%) etc... and 7 hours on internet
-
Anyone have any news on release dates in the UK and Ireland?
Another thing, I've heard conflicting reports about the screen and battery life in the top specced model. Is the battery life really only four hours or is it 7-8 as claimed by Samsung? And what's the screen like? -
Battery life depends as always on usage, it is tested to get to 8 hours doing almost nothing with low brightness (my current laptop does max 2,5h that way).
Well if you use it it will go down... put Wifi on, put Screen to max, activate dedicated gpu and use all 4 cores of the Processor and I'm pretty sure in max 2-3 hours its dead...
According to the russian review you get:
6 hours 15 minutes, the screen brightness: 100% Mode: max. performacce, Actions: video
6 hours and 40 minutes, the screen brightness: 100% Mode: energy saving, Actions: video
7:00 00 minutes, the screen brightness: 100% Mode: Normal, Actions: web-surfing with Wi-Fi
7 hours 30 minutes, the screen brightness: 100% Mode: energy conservation actions, "the typewriter"
7 hours 50 minutes, the screen brightness is 30%, Mode: energy conservation actions, "the typewriter" -
Went to Samsung shop on Tottenham Court Rd., London.
Asked about Seven series. They pointed me to Seven series gaming laptop.
Asked about Chronos. They misunderstood and pointed me to Currys, that they are selling Chromebook laptops.
I corrected myself again and they said that this not released yet.
Somehow I got the feeling that they are clueless.
Anyway. If you google 7 series you'll get from samsung
Samsung 7 Series Slate PC
7 Series 3D LCD TV
7 Series gamer laptop
Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series - Half tablet + half laptop
Samsung Series 7 Chronos
How many more products they got under codename "7 series"?
-
This is the problem. Not many people know about Chronos sadly, but Samsung Notebook | Facebook
seems to advertise it a lot. -
nvm

Hi,
i had a Look on a S01 Notebook in Munich (Germany) today. (Saturn Stachus)
So, it's released in Germany, but not many.
It was a Unit with a 6750, the Core I5, 500 GB, Backlit Keyboard and 8 Gb Express-Cache for 999 Euros (1389$)
(I couldn't verify the Express Cache but the label was on the package and the unit.)
I asked a shopadvisor, so i had a chance to play a bit with Windows.
I was able to change the brightness with the Samsung Quick Settings programm and it was the brightest Display in the room. It looked good, but not excellent. (I changed the Color setting to none, the gamma has changed and the white had no yellow touch anymore, it looked better afterwards.) I compard it with a Sony SE nearby and the colors of the SE were much better. But the SE looks much bigger than the Samsung, looks like a 16,4" in comparison. (I also had a look at a Sony Z31(old Series) and a Z21, and i love these displays. the best u can buy.) But the Samsung wasn't really bad, only nothing special except the Brightness.
Build quality is really good, backlight works like a charm.
The right click is made with two fingers like the Apple Touchpads. Touchpad in general is the best Touchpad i've ever used.
Any Questions so far?
I spoke with the advisor, he confirmed that the 15" Notebook will be released in Germany at Christmas. (But maybe he lied
)
There are 3 Notebooks left in Munich:
1 at Saturn Stachus as a part of the display
2 at Saturn Perlach in stock
Sry for english mistakes... -
Could you talk a bit more on the screen. Like color reproduction, etc. Most people, including myself, are deciding on whether or not to get this based on the screen.
-
As I said, nothing special. In comparison to the Sony SE the Samsung looks (I have to look in a dictionary -> ) pale/light in color. Not a very good saturation (Not nearly sRGB).
Contrast is not the best, better than the bad Acer Displays, but not really good. Viewing angles were ok for me, i can watch the display without colour failures or the negative effect, even while moving the head a little bit.
Its very sharp.
In fact its far away from a Premium Display like the Sony Plus (Not in the SA/SB series)/Premium Series. Its comparable to the Sony Plus Display in the Sony SA/SB Series but 100 nit brighter.
I think it's dissappointing for most people (even for me!).
But i think i can live with this Display in a Notebook and i use a 24" M-PVA Nec in normal life.
And i can confirm, no Displayport, only VGA. <- Also very disappointing.
But, its the S01, similar to the BB modells. The more expensive modells aren't available at Saturn/MediaMarkt (like BB in Germany) at the moment. You can find them in stock in some online shops in Germany, maybe the S03 has another Display. -
core i5?
was it a 15" or a 15.6"??
i hate to keep repeating myself but samsung needs to copy apple's model of releasing things...i mean they're already coping their phones and tablets and laptops...might as well make it simple for customers to buy stuff like apple
a few sku's and simple and clear different configurations. and if it's not going to be available within the next 30 days...dont announce it -
Guys, Wertzius wrote from GERMANY! It's normal for many brands to sell different configs around the world, I don't see anything strange in it!
Someone said that in UK is planned also a version without the dedicated video card, using only the Intel HD3000...
Wertzius, have you compared the screen with another glossy or matte panel? Because it's normal in well-illuminated areas that matte screens perform worse in color saturation and contrast in comparison with the glossy ones... but it's way more difficult to work with the latter than the former... -
Ok guys, here are the specs for the german S01:
- 39.62cm (15.6") WXGA+ SuperBright Matt LED HD+ Display (1600x900)300nit
- Intel Core i5-2430M 2.4GHz, mit Turbo-Boost bis zu 3.00 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
- 6144 MB DDR3-RAM 1333MHz
- 500 GB SATA Festplatten 7200 U/min
- 1024 MB GDDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6750 G2 Dual Grafik
- DVD Double Layer Super Multi Brenner
- Wireless LAN 2x2 802.11 b/g/n
- 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet
- Bluetooth 3.0 + HS (über Dongle, im Lieferumfang)
- 1,3 Megapixel Webcam und Mikrofon integriert
- HD Audio
- beleuchtete Tastatur mit Nummernblock
- 4-in-1 Cardreader
- 8 Zellen Li-Ion Akku (5400mAh)
- Gewicht: ca. 2,29 kg
- Farbe: silber, gebürstetes Aluminium
- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64
- 2 Jahre Herstellergarantie -
I had a look on the 15.6 Notebook.
I compared the Display with Lenovo T410, Sony SB/SA, Sony SE and Sony Z31/Z21, all have matte Panels.
The Panels of the Sony Z Series are the best Panels you can buy. (In my opinion) -
I can't wait any longer. Sorry Samsung, you can tease me for only so long. 8560W here I come!
-
Those specs are wrong, the AMD Radeon HD 6750 G2 Dual Grafik doesn't exist. How can it have 'dual graphics' if it isn't an AMD Fusion notebook? The integrated Intel GPU doesn't work with the 6750.

I would note that maximum brightness can result in loss of contrast as the colours start to wash out. I discovered that on my Dell E6400 which had a very bright backlight (OK for use outside) but the best colours and contrast were at around 3/4 brightness (similar to the maximum brightness on many other displays and fine for indoors use).

Here is a report of Vaio SE screen performed by one owner:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony-owners-lounge-forum/614822-sony-se-owners-thread-29.html
So, this screen is very good but not perfect (see the red color reproduction and gamut width), and it's also matte. I believe that this should be our benchmark and not some dated turds or other low priced models.
Is there any owner of the European Chronos round here who has the balls (together with proper knowledge) to perform the same tests on his machine?
This would be of great help for the community and the best possible comparison yet, not some more or less defective photos or subjective personal impressions. Otherwise, with this Samsung's proprietary launching procedure, I don't believe we'll see a professional test having been performed until December, if not the next year.
And don't take me wrong, I don't expect for the screen to be as good as Vaio's. If only it were to be somewhere near with its contrast and gamut, this would be good enough for me to happily buy the Chronos. -
@powerjoggeli: Can you perform some test about contrast ration and gamut?
Thank you in advance -
I'm with you. The lack of a definitive date had to be the most annoying thing involved with this laptop. Samsung can go to hell on this one.
This launch was nothing more than pathetic. -
Last time I checked they clearly said 2 october for bestbuy only & end of october for the rest, and we are still the 23rd of october.
-
lol, samsung said that it will be available early november for the other retailers in US than BB. Yes, it's not really clear for all the country but samsung said that it will be available the october 2nd for BB and early november for other US retailers. So why are you complaining? We aren't early november, no?
I understand perfectly that you don't want to wait anymore, but, please, wait at least the end of october before complain (exept for the different model, cause for the 14" and 15", they are really disappointing) -
Besides that, it would be kind from the European owners to publish more hi-res photos here with screen captures from multiple angles in proper light conditions.
Seems nobody is proud enough to even bother showing up. -
Maybe there's none who has the laptop?
As for I know, these are available in Switzerland and somewhere in Germany (with minimal stock)... so maybe let's wait another 10 days or so...
-
Well you are right and wrong, the G2 doesn't exist, thats true, but the Intel GPU works with the AMD graphics, you can switch it on and off...
For the others:
My chronos is supposed to come tomorrow, so maybe I can look at some test you want, but don't expect them tomorrow
-
Where did you buy it and what model is it?
-
As I'm a student I bought it here. Its the German S03 model.
-
Well, your version seems to be the highest spec one, it would be kind from you to take some high-res photos especially with the screen, of course, when you'll have the time to do it.
If you could carry out the screen tests, it would be wonderful, but first take you time and enjoy it... -
Seriously. I'd like to see the screen tests too. Maybe also do a close review of the touchpad in terms of how good it is? I don't care about benchmarks as I expect the notebook to be fast enough as is. -
(For the UK) a site I found that has a cut-down version of the Chronos - but is out of stock.
Samsung 700Z5A S01 at Passiontec.co.uk -
Hi guys
I've been lurking on this thread now for about a month, and since i just got back from vacation, and i just found out that the laptop got pushed back to mid-november here in Denmark, i think i'll just order a german one and live with the keyboard differences.
I have one question though! Does anyone know what the model number on the cpu is on the largest 15.6 inch model is?
On the first page of this forum it says that its an i7-2675 processor, and many sellers seem to write it as well, however i can't even find that on intels own homepage.
The german site i found.. notebook.de.. has the biggest model with i7-2670, wich is to be found on the intel website. Am i getting a lower end cpu or is there a typo somewhere?
Thanks
Sorry if you allready discussed this, but i tried searching for any similar questions without results. -
I hope you're very patient then
We're still waiting for release
-
Specs for the 700z4a
Google Übersetzer -
Maybe it's the i7-2670QM in a BGA array package (ie. soldered) in contrast with the standard ZIF socket...
Someone said in the past that the CPU will be soldered to the motherboard (maybe for saving weight and height of the socket), so it'll makes sense (to me, at least). -
Funny thing, this is the second Russian model which seems to have the woofer (the first one was presented in that slight review). Only if they were to be accurate.
What a launching... the weirdest ever seen. -
In order to be a weird/messed up launch, one actually needs to launch something
For Portugal a samsung representative confirmed a long time ago, it won't be available till early November.
Btw does anyone know if the RAM is dual-channel since it has the weird 4gb soldered + 1 slot configuration. -
And the same story again, it seems to be low end version: no 8 GB ssd, hdd just 5400 rot/min and no mention about type of GDDR memory. It means just GDDR3, otherwise they would advertise it loudly. I would bet the woofer is not present either, (ctrl-c / ctrl-v mistake.) Looks to me they will launch low end versions first, wait couple of months and then finally release top versions. Who knows what will happen till then, other manufacturers might hurry in offering similar solutions. Samsung is playing quite a dangerous game, might loose quite a big amout of customers. Time is crucial. -
On the Samsung Notebook Facebook page, and on the samsung homepage, it's listed with the 2675. On german amazon and german web shops, its listed as 2670 :S Anyone with a german chronos still reading these forums, who couild check it out in system info?
-
That would be a faulty strategy, IMHO. When you start up by showing what you can do and don't deliver, this is the worst possible publicity.
At least half of the people out here won't wait for you to run out of turds (maybe you're sitting on a pile of wretched screens and want to get rid of them). I'm not in such a hurry and don't want to change my laptop by all means, I can wait for a couple of months till it's clear what's up with the screen and the rest, but other people won't do this. They'll only become frustrated and disappointed of your brand which, by the way, haven't proven much so far in the laptop marketplace. -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Notebookcheck has details of the i7-2675. However, it must be new because there are no benchmark results for it in the benchmark list.
