So finally I have my S03![]()
Here only first impressions...
Yes its a 2675QM atleast in Germany, the Radeon 6750 has GDDR5 RAM and is not a G2 model like listed in the shops...
So... first impressions of the screen:
damn its bright, on max brightness its only viewable (for me) in direct sunlight.
I'm using 80% right know, that seems to be bright enough for me, if you activate the sensor, than its going to be most of the time of 80%, only in direct sunlight its going to full brightness (atleast with my settings).
Yes the "standard" profile is ... crap, it looks washed out and bluish, "no profile" is better, but more bluish^^, for me "Film mode" or "sharp" is the best and has the best, normal colors.
On that profile it looks really good for me, extremely better than my old R560 220nit glare display...
One thing that is not so good is that black is not really black, I have to play later on with the gamma values, but right now its still to bright...![]()
To the sound, I think its a really good sound for a laptop, there enough bass for normal situations and everything is nicely mixed up (on normal profile, there are other profiles for individual settings, I don't needed them...)
The Touchpad and the Keyboard is also really good, I had no problems to use all the functions. Someone asked earlier how to rightclick... well as I said, I you press, not touch, on the right bottom its right click, but other options are also configurable. The Keyboard lighting is also very nicely made.
In Idle its unhearable, if you play games or stress it, then a fan is turning on, its hearable but not loud.
After some Unigine Heaven benchmarks runs it was warm, but not hot, mostly at the Display hinge where the fans are, but also a little bit on the left side of the laptop.
The fan can also be completely turned off if you are in a library or something.
I think tomorrow evening I'm going to make some 1080p videos of the screen, because photos destroy the real colors of the screen.
Now I have to delete all that Norton and Cyberlink crap... good night![]()
-
Very good idea. Thank you.
Talking about 1080p videos, then how about testing the sound as well? Not much, just a hint of it. -
The best screens are from Samsung
but only in a MB Pro!!! -
Thnks. Do you think you could possibly run HWmonitor? It would be really interesting to see how hot it gets with Unigine on...
-
How do you change the profile? Still it is disappointing to see that the screen on the non-bb model are very similar to the bb model. I guess I need to start looking at a different laptop or finally break down and get the Macbook Pro.
When will the 14 inches version coming to the states. -
I have been following this thread for a month but register today to ask you that how you bought it as i have seen the link you have given but in that Finland in not mentioned for delivery ...can you help me out with this one or do they call Finland something else in there language as Finland in Finnish is Suomi ... ???? so In German ????
-
According to The Microsoft Store, it will ship November 2nd.
By the way, Amazon cancelled my order of the series 7
-
Stupid question for those owners of the 15.6 with the 6570 card. Does it have switchable graphics to the internal graphics? Is it automatic like nvidia's optimus?
Also, where exactly do you buy samsung laptops from (and get the good screen) and buy extended warranties? It seems hard as hell, nothing like dell. -
well maybe samsung is trying to prolong the launch...Apple's refresh just came out, and the new graphics option is 6770.
-
Maybe I should might as well get the macbook 15 inches because it seem to be alot more powerful while still keep the profile slimmer than the Samsung. But I am living on a budget, 1799 is a huge chunk of money for me to spend on a laptop.

Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more -
It should probably read "Due to the lack of communication from the supplier, we do not know when we will receive this item"
-
Received the same email from amazon saying they cancelled my preorder.
So now I have preordered it from the microsoft store which states an estimated delivery of Nov. 1st.
Yeah I think samsung is delaying the release so they can make changes to the product and or waiting till other similar laptops are released. Such as the new macbook spec bump and the upcoming dell 14z
ill post back on the first with an update -
Well, incredibly the new Apple Pro is out before the 6750 Samsung 7.
Better cpus (a bit), better GPUs(!), and large HDD's.
Now, the 13 inch and 15 inch compare better to whatever Samsung puts in its "high-end" Sammy 7. Personally, the 500g to 750g HDD makes the 13 inch MBP look better than before to me. And the cheaper 15 inch has the 6750M with 0.5gig of GDDR 5 memory (I no longer really need the upgraded 15 inch for graphics punch). So, the price differential between Samsung and Apple is less for me now. About $300-$400 less.
By the way, I'm out of warranty on my old Apple lappie yet phone customer support helped me solve an updating problem for free.
The same good Apple screens (contrasty) remain.
Perhaps Samsung taking so long was a good thing. Competition is definitely a good thing!
Good luck whatever you do!!! -
Consumer Reports latest had Lenovo 2nd behind Apple. Maybe the X220 with its IPS screen is a dark horse.
-
Strange, why would they/Samsung go out of their way to make a nice presentation and add an once-unseen video to the Amazon page if they can't fulfill it? Something's up.
-
You guys seriously think that they delayed the S7 due to the MBP upgrade??? You really think that they're going to retake all of the laptops off of the production lines, change the CPU and GPU and resell it? I mean come on, did you guys actually think this through?? Do you really think it's that easy to cram a 6770 and a better cpu? If so why didn't they do it earlier?
Nothing is going to change, they are just having production and supply issues. Welcome to the world of business. -
Hi:
No, sorry, didn't mean to imply that.
Samsung seems to have blown it a bit more. Delays caused their 6750 model (a "copy" of the high-level MBP 15 inch with its 6750 until yesterday) to now, perhaps, more accurately compare with the "base" 15 inch MBP. Thus, the 6750 Sammy can be compared to a better $1,795 machine (or less) rather than a better $2,199 (or less) machine if GPUs are the deciding factor.
I guess that's why Apple is probably the 2nd most valuable company in the U.S. (stock value --- behind the much larger Exxon I suspect).
Of course, the Samsung 7 is still cheaper. Ironically, Samsung's strategy of copying and under-cutting the 15 inch MBP (see anandtech, etc... from about August 30th) may now make the $950 BB version the most marketable (to some) despite its 6490 card. It's still much cheaper than the 15 inch MBP. Indeed, still not a bad value. -
but this 03 version with 6750QM is better than 6750 model right?
-
at Ganxxta: Interesting thing that fan switch. Is it just on/off or more options? Wonder how it works. Probably switching off 3 cores and the last one runs on 900 MHz or similar. That together with dedicated GPU switched off might be enough for passive cooling.
Please let us know how gamma corrections turned out. You also mentioned bass part of sound, is there sub-woofer on the bottom of the unit? -
Yeap, it should be nice to know this. According to the manual of 15.6'' model from Samsung site, the location of the speakers is inside the hinge and on the bottom. Normally, the 2 speakers should be placed within the hinge, somewhere near the fan exhaust, while the woofer should be on the bottom.

Can anyone tell me is this the best one in this series shown in this link inWarehouse.se - Samsung 700Z5A 15.6" HD+ LED as nothing is mentioned in the specification about 8gb ssb and backlit keyboard so i am confused plz comment .... !!!
-
Confidential information, man. You have to figure out somehow. Maybe it's a sort of contest from Samsung, find & win game, I suppose. Just kidding...
-
at mariofz31z: Hmm, manual.. That should help. That part of the manual where speakers description is, is there a star sign next to subwoofer saying "depends on configuration of selected model"? If not, that should mean each model has it. (You can find star sign by 8 GB of SSD on samung web page.) But who knows if manual is correct.. Best thing would be a set of screwdrivers and "check before you buy" approach.
Thanks for pics, well hidden speakers! Just realised i have no idea what for are Fn-F9 and Fn-F10 buttons. -
You're welcome.
As for the star sign, there's no star out there (Overview section - page 25 & 29).
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c.../201109/20110902140547538/Win7_Manual_eng.exe
And nothing about woofer on the model page of the site, just 3W Stereo Speaker (1.5W x 2).
Really weird. Again, they got off on the wrong foot... -
If you are speaking about the 6770 : I didn't know that a less than 10% performance gain in 3dmark vantage over the 6750 was "a lot more powerful"
Or if you're speaking of the 6750 mbp : I didn't know that 512 mo 6750 was a lot more powerful than the 1giga 6750 gddr5 in the chronos.
Or if you're speaking of system response in general : I didn't know that the 5200 rpm hard drives they put in 1800$+ macs were faster than 7200 rpm drives + express cache.
By the way I believe the chronos is a little slimmer than the mbp.
362.1 x 238.4 x 23.9 mm 2.3kg vs 15 inch macbook pro : 364.4 x 249.4 x 24.1 mm 2.55kg
And seriously ? 200$ addition to get from 4go to 8go on the 1799$ mbp ?
All upgrades selected (matte/7200rpm/8gigs) to match the S03 chronos, it costs you 2299$... and that's still lacking the express cache and 512mo of video ram.
And 2600$ to get the extra 6770 and 0.2 ghz of the higher end one. -
Has anyone seen today's news reports on the net regarding the chronos release:
Samsung Launches the Series 3, Series 7 Gamer & Chronos Notebooks - HardwareZone.com
They are mentioning that the 15.6 inch is priced at $2000. Is is just me, or is that $800 dollars more than initially announced on September 1st?
I'm in the UK and had assumed the 15.6 inch would be priced at £900-£1000 (taking into account extra tax and costs to the UK), based on that $1200 value.
Now that its looking like $2000, then thats more like £1500-£1600 here, at which point it looks less attractive compared to the macbook pros.
How much are these laptops going to be? This release is a pure farce -
That's the Asia press release. It's using Singapore dollars.
-
Series 7 gamer 2800$, you should stop reading that website, simply because it is junk, or they arn't using american dollars.
All I know is that 15.6 6750 chronoses are already being sold for about 1000€ in germany, just convert that to your queen's currency. -
Ahhhhhh, thanks.
Any idea when they will arrive at UK shores? -
I've been lurking around this thread for a while. I'm sure everyone already knows this, but I received an e-mail last night from Amazon. The watered-down 14" model is available for purchase, shipping in 4-6 weeks.
Amazon.com: Samsung NP700Z3A-S01US 14-Inch Laptop: Computers & Accessories
I think this is the same one that has been sold at Best Buy (I am in Canada and it has not been sold here). Still no word on the 15" models as far as I'm aware.
Given that neither has been released yet, is anyone considering the upcoming Lenovo U400 14"? Would that suit anyone's needs if it were priced competitively or below the S7, or is it simply not powerful enough? I am curious because the S7 is an amazing laptop on paper, but it's at the upper end of my price range. -
Hi .. i found the specs you can check it has 8gb ssd ... and you were kidding abt confidential but its really true .. u can see on top of it .. confidential ...
http://mediaserver.digitec.ch/dokumente/224751.pdf -
Ha Ha! That was a good one! Samsung wants to test our ability to perform private investigation work.
This is some spy sh.it we seeing here, you'd better watch out! -
According to manual page 33 (thanks to mariofz31z) "A" letter in notebook description means backlit keyboard, "B" letter no backlight. So your version (700Z5A) should have it. Check the keyboard pics of your model, Fn F9 and Fn F10 control the level of backlight. No signs on them, no backlight.

Greetings,
today I had the chance to see 15,6" @Saturn Berlin Kurfürstendamm:
It seems sturdy and stable to me - more than my actual XPS 1530.
The screen seems good to me. It´s brighter than my 1680x1050 15,6 screen now.
What worried me: The Windows score was really low because I was not able (even together with the salesman) to activate the AMD CPU. You can just decide which executable should use high performance graphic.
Because I don´t plan to play a lot on this device, I will wait to compare it to the 14" (in 13,3" chassis) - which was unfortunately not available.
Compared with my old XPS, the size and wight is fabulous! But I want to compare before I decide.
The package included 750GBHDD with express cache, 6750 AMD and the back-light keyboard. Price: 999.
Indeed, It´s seems to be a very nice device. -
From where? Samsung seems to be leaving out the UK which is really pissing me off
-
Do you plan on putting a second hard drive in your laptop if so please update us.
-
Well, I think I need to be convinced to buy it first. There's still no 100% reliable info about the screen quality of European versions, I mean I still hope not to be as bad as reported.
-
I thought you had the laptop already
-
Nope, not really. I'm not rushing into things without proper info.
Right now, I'm most eager to see what Ganxxta is gonna post. -
Simultaneous output of HDMI, VGA and internal monitor is not supported by this machine. (I guess somebody asked about it earlier.)
SirIron, if you need to see windows score of AMD graphics, run the catalyst control center (rightclick on the desktop, select "graphics properties") go to "powerschemes", choose "switching method of GPU" and select "manual choice of switching", then select "switchable graphics" right above "switching method" and make sure AMD graphics is activated. Now you can go to windows performance index and run the test. Enjoy! -
If it's like on the envy, I believe you have to go in the settings and use the Eyefinity feature of ATI/AMD to do multiple output.
-
Serial ATA-300 15,6" SAMSUNG HAS this. is this sata 3 or not? what is the speed? is it enought?
-
It is Sata 2. It just means it operates at 300mb/s. At 7200rpm. It's more than enough but some people want much more faster than change it for ssd.
-
Most of the high-end laptops today are SATA II. I say this because the Series 7 are SATA II, the Sony Vaio S 15.5" is SATA II, and many others in the range of USD $1,100 are SATA II.
I guess only the gamers laptops are SATA III.
And yes, if you want to change the HDD for a SSD, you should prefer a SATA III, it's faster and an SSD can take advantage of this. But if you want to keep the HDD, the SATA II is beyond the limit for the HDD.
I would say even more about this. Actually, even with the SSD, SATA II or SATA III make no difference if you are going to use it for browsing, editing and even for gaming.
The mayor diference between SATA II and SATA III are noticeable for benchmarkers and heavy users. I say it because I use a SATA II and a SATA III every day, and they have a huge difference on benchmark, but not on everyday using.
So, SATA II should be fine for most of users on this laptop. -
Well, lets go
So yesterday I received my Laptop and shared my first impressions, today I made some pics and vids to show it to you, unfortunately the screen seems to be to bright for my camera
. You have to see the screen for yourself with you own eyes, the videos and pics don't show the real image.

Some people asked about the speakers... here is a picture of one:
I think the speakers are more than good for a laptop which is so thin and small, they are extremely better than the one from my old Samsung R560.
I don't know if a subwoofer is build in, I don't want to open my new Toy^^
Another thing I found out is that some Keys have separate LEDs and they are separately backlit, which is very nice, even if the Keyboardlight are off you can see whether WiFi, Capslock, mute etc is on:
As you can see FN+F11 regulates the Fan, in the EasySettings tool you can configure separate Fan profiles, like always on, but slow/always off and only on when needed etc...
there you can also choose the color settings:
the sound settings:
and express cache and fast boot settings:
To configure the switchable graphics you have to choose the applications in the AMD Catalyst Control Center:
This are the temps after some Unigine Heaven benchmark runs, I couldn't see it throttle:
So here are a few pics of the screen (pics show almost real life colors):
Here is a short clip in comparison to my old 15,4" Samsung R560 220 nit glare screen, both at max brightness:

More clips and pics you can find here
As I said, its sometimes to bright for my camera, could get a better picture of it
you have to look for yourself.
To sum it up:
For me its a very good laptop for this kind of money, its fast, silent, light, small (had to check twice that the screen is actually 15.6" compared to my previous 15,4"
).
The matte screen is way better than my previous glare screen and the colors and the sharpness is good enough for me (don't know if its "bad" like some people say, but I like it). Only thing that I don't like about it, is that black isn't really black, thats maybe because of the high brightness, but the other colors are very good and natural and white is real white, not that yellowish compared to my old laptop.
What I really like is the fast boot up and boot from standby, you have to be really quick to make it into the BIOS and from lid closed to lid opened it needs 3 secs to boot.
So if you want that laptop, check the screen somewhere for yourself and figure out whether its a full model or a watered down one and if you like it or not.
Good night. -
Hmm, so the "Monitor name (Manuf)" and the "Hardware ID" match the Best Buy model, but the "Monitor Name" does not. Weird.
-
Thanks a lot for the info and I hope you enjoy your new toy
. Do you know have any info on battery life?
-
Thanks for taking some time out to carry out all these test
-
Where did you buy your laptop from. Do you think they will sell it with a UK keyboard and ship it to the UK?
