It seems that samsung only want to promote the laptop and not interested in selling those at least before Holidays season.

It's good to see reports from people who actually have something to report.

Too bad about the few who over-react like crazy based on nothing, and jump to silly dire conclusions based on even less. Come now, girls, try to keep your panties dry. Yes, you can do it! Just hold it a bit longer, it won't be long now...

The Microsoft Store no longer lists the SS7 on preorder. It appears to be in stock... At least for now.

If HHD is replaced with SSD how is it going to coexist with ExpressCache?
Does anybody know if ExpressCache can be disabled?

Just ordered an S01UK from dabs.ie . Expected delivery date of Monday next week. If it sports a 6490m instead of the 6750m i'll be returning it.

One Notebookcheck Forum guy said their test comes tomorrow. Only that they're carrying it out for S01DE (i5) and not for S03DE, which seems to be the highest spec version till now, but most things should be similar, including the screen. Slow your breath down... :)

So I have this in checkout at the microsoft store right now. I am deciding between this and a Sager NP8130. I am buying one today. I hate decisions. My question is has anyone had experience with this Microsoft Signature thing? Every computer bought from the store has it.

    Hi everyone,

I've a question for those who have a 700Z with the 6490M, is it an 1 Go GDDR5 VRAM or 512 Mb? Because, on a few sites, they are saying that the 6490M have 1 Go of GDDR5 but i found this strange... can you confirm?
    Thank you in advance

I'm tempted, but I have to wait for amazon. If I need to return it for some reason (if it has the screen door effect on the screen I'll ship it back so fast) I know amazon will give me the best customer support.

    hey there.

I'm waiting anxiously for the Seven, too. I've noticed that the 700Z5A (15,6") is already available in Germany, but what about the 700Z4A (15")? Do you know if it's coming to Europe at all?

I think the latter would suite my needs best, but if it doesn't bocome available soon I will just have to go with the 700Z5A. Also, do you know if there is a difference in weight between the two? The bigger one weighs 2,29 kg but so far I haven't seen the exact specs of the 15" model.

In keeping with the other dabs.com reports on here for the uk model:
    NP700Z5A-S01UK
Expected delivery date: Monday 7th November

If this as expected is the top line one, a price of £946 sounds pretty good compared to the german prices. Ill have to be honest, a couple of weeks ago i was expecting a figure of £1200 when I looked at the german S03 models. Get in there quick boys and girls, I have a sneaky feeling the cost might even go up!?

That model is £999 on the PC World website so I'm guessing that most places will be charging somewhere around that price:

SAMSUNG Series 7 NP700Z5A-S01UK 15.6" Laptop - Silver at cheap prices | PC World

I was at their Oxford Street, London branch today and they had this model in stock:

SAMSUNG Series 7 NP700Z5A-A01DX 15.6" Laptop at cheap prices | PC World

I only had a couple of minutes to play with it but it looked great to me. It was easily - in my opinion - the nicest-looking alternative to a MBP in the shop. The screen doesn't compare to a top-of-the-range IPS display but it was an improvement on my 17" R780. The comments that I've read about it being bright but having slightly washed-out blacks seem fair based on literally two minutes of use. I think I'm going to go for the S01 model; my only concern is whether opening it up to swap the hard drive for an SSD will invalidate the warranty. I've put an Intel SSD in my R780 and I wouldn't want to go back to a regular drive, even with ExpressCache :)

Did you enquire about the Video card? There's quite a few places that have S01 listed with R6490 (though they don't have any stock)... I guess we'll just have to wait as I'm not 100% sure Samsung website description matches what is being sold

Well, we haven't reached a definitive conclusion yet on notebook's quality, but this launching process is simply pathetic, to make you clients and retailers guess what's inside... this is unbelievable, I mean... this is not a vacuum cleaner or the sort.

"Hello Bryan, we're pleased to inform that the SERIES 7 CHRONOS 15.6" (body 15") has been released in the USA from BBY retailer since early October, and the release date for other retailers is expected middle of November. To give you the best assistance in the USA, please contact our US local team directly from now on. Here is the link to help you: [ ]Samsung. We hope this helps!"

For some reason they're always pleased to inform. It's annoying.

thanks for that bit of digging abc27, Ive emailed dabs.com and asked if they could give me a full spec list. Like others have said on here, I find it totally ridiculous that only a couple of specs have been included in the title!! If it aint what im after the order is gonna be cancelled. As said, Im taking a risk, so it'll be my own fault i guess! :) or :( for me? Samsung=

I ordered this morning (1AM) and got the overnight delivery and they said it hasn't shipped yet and won't until tomorrow.

They also took my money and said they didn't "charge" it. It is just pre-authorized. The "charge" won't go through until it is shipped.

I did the work for you already. Their response was basically "We don't know. We just put up any information that our supplier gives us and have 25,000 products and can't possibly know every single detail about them".

Their advice to me was to check out the model number with the manufacturer. Dabs have the model as NP700Z5A-S01UK

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/notebook-computers/high-performance/NP700Z5A-S01UK
That's the page for the S01-UK. The spec on that page is the top spec model so i'd imagine that's the one they're selling.

The only way to know if MS Store has stock, is to call the actual store and ask if they have it physically in store... if they don't i highly doubt they have any in stock..

Will probably only get it after i see it with my own eyes...

Samsung's Facebook team has been saying that the NP700Z5A-S01US and NP700Z5A-S02US models are no longer going to be released to the US, replaced with the NP700Z5A-S03US and NP700Z5A-S04US, which are rumored to be identical yet priced higher. My friend who had preordered it with Microsoft was concerned so we chatted with their support. They said that they had the units and already shipped some out, but that we'd be next in line. They couldn't give us a date on when the next shipment would come.

Being dissatisfied with that response, we called up Microsoft and talked to a "Kristen Pfohl", who promised to help us with our issue. She assured us several times that the laptop would be shipped out Tuesday night and would arrive by Thursday. She even said, "We're putting it in a box right now and putting the label on it". My friend and I were ecstatic.

Later that night we noticed that it had been pulled from Microsoft's store. Not only that, but my friend had been refunded the money. Tomorrow we're going to call Microsoft and Samsung to tell them about our frustration with what has gone on. Microsoft for lying, Samsung for misleading consumers about the release of a product.

I've been posting for my friend on Samsung's Facebook (saying that I'm the one ordering the laptop and whatnot just so it isn't confusing). Here is a link showing the back and forth dialogue.

    Photo Album - Imgur

In the conversation I post a link to a conversation I had with Samsung support. Here is that link, but a version edited to get rid of his last name.

    http://imgur.com/N9U75

Is it too much to ask that a company releases accurate information about their products instead of getting people's hopes up? My friend has had the same laptop for five years and this seemed like the perfect upgrade. Guess it isn't anymore.

It's the same price for me since I have to pay state taxes for Tiger Direct. I chose to go with The MS Store because of the MS Signature program. They get rid of all the bloat ware so no need to reinstall the OS when you get the machine.

Oh, man... they've found that damn display even worse than expected.

Google Translate: On most of us, however, the inferior quality display annoyed: black level, viewing angle, color and contrast remain significantly below expectations.

Only the brightness seems right, all other characteristics are simply pathetic.

    Again, Google Translate:

According to our measurements, however, the euphoria disappeared again quickly. Greatest deficiency is probably the high black value of 1.7 cd / m² . Dark image elements look very gray, what one remembers especially games and movies. For a crisp black and the value would have to under 0.4 cd / m² lie. The contrast of 158:1 with settles also below average.

From bold colors can be no question, not even the sRGB space is covered to some extent (see screenshot). The picture makes a very faint impression , for media use we recommend an external monitor. Commendably, the contrast is high luminosity , on average, we measured 247 cd / m² - a good result.

The viewing angle stability is - to put it mildly - very poor. When deviations from the optimum point, the lighting changed tremendously, a movie night with several friends, you can immediately forgotten. Frequent readjustment is unfortunately on the agenda.

That screen has wrecked havoc on overall ranking...

And, of course, something about lack of the promised woofer:

The two integrated speakers, unfortunately, cannot produce a good sound.

Well, notebookcheck is the best review site I know, and they employed the word INFERIOR. I believe dp3000 is right, crystal clear, no need to argue anymore, we're dealing with an inferior a.k.a. low-budget screen here, the same damn screen of all version having been released until now, btw... up to €1400.

It's really hard for me to understand those people saying that screen doesn't matter so much... come on, it's that thing you're looking at all the time and other things become irrelevant in comparison. Anyway, everybody is free to waste his money on garbage...

Again, I only hope Samsung would consider other clients as well, people which have superior needs and are not so easy to please. I wish they would consider introducing a version with a better screen, or else this attractive form would remain only a low-budget offer employing slightly better than average hardware... one hardly satisfactory proposition.

Thanks. I also wanted to ask, actually - are we able to use two external monitors and then not use the internal monitor? So basically, can the HDMI and the mini-VGA output independently, even if one of them is then cloned by the internal monitor?
