I know it says 15.6 on both Amazons pages but I didn't know if it was a mistake. I can't find the plain 15" on amazon.

Amazon has the 14inch and 15.6inch for pre-order.. they don have the 15inch up for pre-order.. the picture set for the both the pre-orders are the same , but when u look at the model numbers they are different...

anyways, for anyone who needs to be clarified regarding the three models :

    14inch - model 700Z3A
    15inch - model 700Z4A
    15.6inch - model 700Z5A (with num keypad)

I am also waiting for the 15inch model, hoping it has same gpu(AMD Radeon HD6750M) as present in 15.6..im pretty sure it is since they are about the same size...the details on 14inch is that it has a AMD Radeon HD 6450M gpu...but if they do provide the option of having 6750M in 14inch then im totally sold on it..But i doubt that cos there isn't any mention of it anywhere...not much of details yet on these chronos which can be confirmed but i hear they are being released around Oct 2nd... they have to be released pretty soon cos amazon is already taking pre-orders... If any of you find any other online stores that are taking up pre-orders pls do post...

    cheers !!

Ya i guess its AMD HD 6490M .. still its the lowest end class 2 or class 3 graphics card...so the gpu is quite bad in the 14".. .

Amazon pulled off the pre-orders for these Samsung series 7 on their website.. don have any clue why they jus pulled off.. they were up for pre-order last night when i looked ..strange..

    3D mark 06
HD3000 (integrated in sandy bridge) : around 5000
    6490M : 10000
6750M : above 15000 up to 17000 depending on clock speed

LOL, where did you pull those numbers from.

The averages in 3dmark06, according to notebookcheck are:

    HD 3000: 3620
    HD 6490M: 5602
    HD 6750M: 8869

Another point of comparison is 3D Marks Vantage:

    HD 3000: 1267.1
    HD 6490M: 1984
    HD 6750M: 4460.5

This puts the 6750M about twice as fast as the lower card. In games though, performance seems to be between 50 and 100% higher.

"There are three variants of the UK-bound 15.6-inch varying between £799 and £999. "

So it seems like no 13" or 14". BTW the 13" and 14" refer to the size of the chassis and not the size of the screen.

cheers. lots of confusion around this.

i'm still unsure what this alleged 15" model is, and whether it is the same as you described above; a 15.6" screen in a 15" chassis......?

Totally different markets. The UX31 is a 13" ultrathin laptop; the Series 7 is a midsize thin-and-light-but-not-ultrathin performance laptop. It's the difference between a MacBook Air 13 and a MacBook Pro 15.

Fair enough, but I want a new laptop with a decent resolution screen & so far, these are the only 2 'ultra-portables' that do :)

For me, it'll come down to seeing how they perform in the real world, rather than just on paper!

I guess we all are pretty much confused between the models and sizes of each laptop.. one article says its 13,14 & 15inch and other articles say its 14,15 & 15.6inch models.. samsung has totally confused everyone now.. guess we jus have to sit & wait for more details to be released from Samsung.. anyways cant wait for these series 7 chronos to come out.. Do any of you hear anything about the release date??? other than oct 2 which has been floating around in the forums...

It's pretty simple actually. One of the articles is referring to chassis size, the other is referring to screen size.

    13, 14 and 15" chassis

    14, 15 and 15.6" screens respectively

Now the specs and customization options are a lot less clear. Especially for the 14/15"

i simply don't believe there are three chassis sizes, there is nothing credible to support the notion:

Samsung Series 7 Chronos - Powerful, Portable and Boots in 19 secs | GadgetyNews.com

there is a 14.1" notebook that uses a chassis more typically associated with a 13.3" notebook.

there is a 15.6" notebook that uses a chassis more typically associated with a 14.1" notebook.

i don't believe it is any more complicated than that.

Sadiri is correct. It is impossible to put a 15.6'' into a 14'' chasis. It can only be put into a 15'' chasis.

only the 14" is stuck with the 6490M

    now that is tempting!

    [edit]

has anyone seen a decent side shot of the 15"?

i am asking about the metal finish of the sides; on the 14" is appears to be a separate piece from the metal finish on the top, whereas in the 15.6" it appears to be one piece.

this might explain the confusion about some models having a metal palmrest while others don't.............

i prefer the one piece construction from the 15.6" because i see it as less likely to peel-away after a bump, so i am hoping the 15" is built the same way.

If you look on youtube for Samsung Series 7 14 (15" screen) there is a video where you can see a shot of the side. Looks like it is one piece like the 15.6"

Actually here is a link: Samsung Series 7 14

It also has the 3rd usb port like the 15.6" and unlike the 14"

Also notice it is easy to tell the one with the 14" screen apart from the 15" screen: the 15" has a lot more space on either side of the keyboard but lacks numberpad.

I think Sadiki is correct too. This is achieved because samsung put a thinner bezel so there's more room for the actual display.

To the people stating there are 3 sizes, that seems to be incorrect. There is the 14" and the 15.6" model. I think the confusion lies in the chassis size. The 14" is really in a 13" chassis due to the small bezel according to several video reviews and the 15.6" screen is in a 15" chassis. Even samsungs own website states 14 and 15.6" screens. Just trying to clear up any unnecessary confusion.

Nice try, but look it up on youtube and you can find videos that clearly show all three models.

But yea, Samsung really does have a lot of conflicting information out there. Maybe they are considering cancelling the 15 incher, I certainly hope not.

Well there are 3 15.6" models with prices listed on the front page so Im only assuming the $999 model is the 15". Thats a total assumption on my part but keep in mind the chassis size. The 15" model with no number pad is built on a 14" chassis. So, Im assuming heating contraints forced both the 14" and 15" models to that gpu. Again, total assumption on my part but its a pretty logical one.

You can also wait for Win 8 and a convertible... but what's the point.

You will wait until end summer 2012, buy a Ivy laptop and when you will have it in your hand, it will be outdated already.

Of course, all technologies depreciates pretty quickly, but I am looking for an analysis whether the series 7's technologies are relatively future-proof, compared to other currently existing laptops.
For example, SSD chaching will be relatively future proof compared to those laptops without it.
