Yeah you're right...i got it from j&r, the s04. it's on the sammy website here: Series 7 15.6" Notebook }| Samsung NP700Z5AH it's just mislabeled for some reason. I'm pretty sure if you order the US version, it will be all aluminum as mine is.

Unfortunatly Elf4U there is no demo. You should pick it up its awesome ;) but for real I am sure somebody here will have both sooner rather than later. Also jimm, thank you for my video. If this runs BF3 its my next computer. If it cannot then I have some serious thinking to do. bf3 Gameplay on a Macbook Pro 2011 - YouTube this video alone is almost enough to make me buy it. Specs look lesser and he says its on high.

Well timm's laptop looked like the next one to be sitting on this desk. Also, do you timm, or anybody else for that matter, know where to get the vga adaptor since it didn't come in your box. I would really need that but I guess i'll have to buy it.

Also, if somebody did find an S02 available for sale in the US please comment on if it is full aluminum or if it has plastic palmrests. I want aluminum through and through.

Edit: Elf4U I just saw your photos and the screen doesn't look too terrible to me. What model is your laptop S04 also?

Just to be cleared. S01 became S03 and S02 became S04.
Maybe S01 and S02 will be back in next models in the future.

Nice eye. I wonder what other differences there are. Would they really have different screen qualities between Best Buy and non-Best Buy models?

The notebook has finally reached Australia.
I went and checked it out in a store. Unfortunately the display turned out to be as bad as people on this forum warned.
Big disappointment. Especially when compared to the nearby Series 9 display.
It is definitely a deal breaker for me.

p.s. I'm prepared to pay 200-300 extra for the premium screen

I bet that white thing next to the HD is the expresscache and all you have to do to disable it is unplug the black and white power connector.

S03 has 8gb of ram and S02 has 6gb of ram. It does not make sense since the price is way too different...

This will play MW3 would run perfectly fine. Skyrim most likely low settings. BF3 has driver problems, making it really unstable to play BF3. I heard it crashes a lot and etc. And maybe just cutting it on lowest settings.

Unless you overclock it to 6770M then it run perfectly fine for all 3.

the specs sheets on samsung.com show one with 6gb and one with 8gb
and asbolutely nothing else is different on the specs sheets

    go look for yourself

Doffe-- here is the problem: there are no comparable models on the market today in terms of design /sleekness/ form factor that have better screens. Period.

Heck, I am prepared to pay $500-600 more but there are no models.

Sony VAIO SE, which is perhaps the closest alternative, has its own set of display issues (red looks more like orange) and has a poor battery (without the extra battery sheet).

The only other option is really to spend $2000 on MacBook Pro but then again some of us don't like MacBook for other reasons.

I am sure there will be new laptops Q1 2012 but some of us can't wait that long.

    Which reviews are those?

Ordered mine in the UK at BT Shop yesterday. ETA 16th of November yesterday, today it's ETA is the 17th of November. :(

LOL, also just read that the S7 with Windows 8 touchscreen technology is due mid 2012. With these sorts of things you can end up waiting and waiting and waiting and never get anything! :)

My wrist support is also plastic, without any brushed aluminum effect (Swedish Model 700Z5A-S01). I don't mind it since I think the matte plastic is nicer to touch than polished aluminum. Style-wise, I think it is as good as the aluminum one.

Also, the trackpad surface seems to be polished plastic and not glass which is OK for me unless it worsens the function somehow.

Thanks - Somehow missed that review.

It's a little annoying about the palm rest, but it won't stop my purchase of it - I'll decide if it's a showstopper when I have it in my hands for a few days.

For me it's due to the different shapes of the EU keyboard layout and the US one... Look at the ENTER key... They might have done a different mold... but it looks strange to me...

Also, on a point I have seen further back in the thread, has anyone done any investigation about being able to get another SSD or HDD into the original chassis in place of the DVD drive?

To me, the DVD drive will hardly ever be used and an SSD/HDD will be of more use in it's place.

Alright folks, just unboxed my S03 (8GB RAM, Windows Professional).

    First impression:
    1. Very well built. Sturdy.

    2. Modern looking

    3. Grey color is a bit too dark for my liking. I would have preferred a more silver-ish tone (similar to MacBooks)

    4. HEAVY. At least I was expecting a lighter laptop. It's thin but very dense and heavy.

    5. Screen is WASHED OUT. It's not a bad screen per se, it's just not brilliant. "Washed out" is what comes to mind. I have $399 HP ProBook (my backup laptop) that has a brighter screen. Again, it's not GARBAGE or bad, just washed out. Think of as taking your existing laptop and turning brightness down.

Honestly, I am suspecting that it was done to extend the battery life. I just can't see otherwise. I think Samsung probably prototyped a version with a bright screen that only had 3-4hr battery life (similar to let's say Sony VAIO SE) and decided to make a trade-off in favor of a washed out screen but better battery life.

One more note-- the white color looks a bit off-white on Series 7.

I put Google.com side by side on my new Samsung and my cheap HP ProBook and ProBook shows clear white whereas Samsung shows slightly tainted (perhaps pinkish ) white?

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, were you guys able to adjust it?

    So it seems...
That's why I'm thinking about buying it in the USA... It'll have a different keyboard layout (google IT keyboard), but about €400 cheaper!!!!!
I'm waiting to see the screen in person, after that I'll decide what to do... but it's a shame that in the USA it's sold at 1150$ => ~850€, and in Italy 1300+€, with 8GiB of RAM, but it doesn't change the point of view...

Ganxxta, try looking with a flashlight through the little vents on the above-right of the RAM slot... if you'll open the first photo quoted in my original post you'll see what I mean (the plastic thing between the fan and the hard drive)...
