I vaguely recall someone go step by step through it on one of the responses in this thread?

Does anyone have a link? I tried to sift through 200 pages but can't find it.

I am looking for information on how to optimize display settings.

    Thanks.

hey laptopsolutions, how quickly did provantage ship out your laptop?? i would be getting it shipped to canada, so it would take a little longer... I wasnt sure if i should just wait for the stock at JR to jump up because i heard shipping from them was really quick.

Sorry for all these questions. I am a first time buyer. Anyway, i was also wondering what the warranty is like. If i were to buy from america and get it shipped to canada, how do i go about using my warranty? would i have to send it all the way back to the purchaser or ...?

samsung has 1 year international warranty.
(doesn't matter where you bought it from, just keep your receipt)
for warranty repair you have to send it to the nearest warranty center.

YNOTNGO - They shipped same day. That is if you order before 2:30PM EST (3PM is official cutoff). I would click "Update Inventory" to make it's still available.

Also, when you order, they do credit card verification so to avoid delays, I would recommend proactively calling them 2 minutes after you order and tell them you would like to have your order verified.

***IMPORTANT NOTE: Provantage does not have a 30 day unconditional return policy. They have to get a Manufacturer approval to authorize return.

Could someone please find out the model number of the optical drive used within it? - Currently investigating compatible drive caddies.

Tigerdirect shows my order as shipped, and has given me a tracking number on their site, but I haven't gotten an email yet. (No double billing problems as far as I can see).

Do note that after it ships it shows a notice that "This item is exclusively supported by the manufacturer and cannot be returned," which makes me a little nervous.

I'm still on the fence. I think a 15.6" is a bit much for me (I'm using a 13" right now). If they had a 15" in a 14" chassis I would seriously consider picking that one up.

just got mine 04. does anyone else have issue with the space bar? if you tap on it from either the left or the right, it goes down but doesn't actually work. you have to tap closer to the center. i wonder if it's just mine or if it's a construction fault for this model?

nope i just used the Fn key to up the brightness by one notch. but again, i'm not an expert at telling these things so i haven't noticed anything that's off. the screen is certainly a lot brigher than my old Toshiba E105.

    little help here.
i'm doing a fresh install and it was boot from dvd.
i chose to format the c drive (all other drive i didn't touch)
    now setup refusing to install.
    any thoughts?

    update :
windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an MBR partition table.
On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

    am in trouble?

    update :

erased all drive expect for the 8gb cache.
8gb cache is listed as disk 0 partition 1 <--- do not erase

    1. deleted all disk 1 (primary hard drive)
    2. made new partition
    3. setup created 3 partition (partition 1 system 100gb , partition 2 hd 650gb, partition 3 mbr 20gb)
    4. continued setup
    5. currently installing

I would be inclined to go for the 14 inch chasis, -- QUESTION: will either of these (15.6 or 14 not yet available in N.A.) take 16 GB of RAM?

I am desperately looking for something to replace my 17 inch machine, currently have 2 drives (1 mechanical and 1 256 M4 SSD), but I could do with a single drive -- I do not care the least for video performance, but want matte screen

JB Hi Fi in Westfield Sydney
and I got a call from Belrose Supacenta as well

Could you please share your impressions once you have seen it.

    Agreed. It is a problem.

My impression is that Samsung lost their chance to come back at Apple with Chronos.

And no other company seems to be able to get their act together and produce something decent.

So Apple gets the market share. Myself I run Win on MBP.

Nope. All the Series 7 notebooks have 2 RAM slots, but 1 of them is soldered onto the motherboard.

Here are some possible RAM configurations:

    4GB Soldered + empty slot = 4GB Total !
    4GB Soldered + 2GB Removable = 6GB Total *
    4GB Soldered + 4GB Removable = 8GB Total *
    4GB Soldered + 8GB Removable = 12GB Total ^
    4GB Soldered + 16GB Removable = 20GB Total ^

! If someone jipped you and stole the RAM from your notebook
    *Stock configurations available from Samsung
^Available if you have lots of money to buy these elusive DDR3 RAM

    :D

So much hyperbole! Who says Samsung "lost" their chance at anything? I think the 1.0 revision of the Chronos is pretty clearly just Samsung testing the waters to see what the market demand is for a half-price near-MBP. They have enough money that they can afford to put their fingers in a lot of pies and see what happens. Then once they get a bead on the market, they can starting pushing whichever one of their Series or other models has the best chance. The opinion of people who actually know about things like overclocking or contrast ratios matters very little to them, since they're a minuscule proportion of the market the MBP is currently reaching.

Has anyone installed BF3 and got it working? Mine definitely has trouble starting up and going into full screen.

Tested MW3 and nba 2k12 on it, computer runs them both surprisingly well. MW3 is smooth with high detail with AA off. Seems to run nba 2k with no problems.

I installed the latest mobility 11.10 drivers from ati.

yeah...this laptop still competes with the mbp because its exactly what a lot of windows users has been looking for...

good design but not have to use macos
because transitioning from windows to macos is quite hard...it take a while to get used to how things are done on a mac

not mention the apple tax...this laptop is great
    now up the specs

In previous posts I have seen that there are some driver issues with BF3, but hopefully these well be worked out soon. With the info that this can play MW3 on High though, I am very confident that once the driver is fixed BF3 low will be perfectly good for me. I am 99 percent sure this will be my next laptop. Does anybody have any cases they are using for it yet? The specs seem to be very close to a MBP. Has anybody stuck this in one of those neyoprene cases for the MBP. Something like Amazon.com: Caselogic PAS-215 15-Inch Macbook Neoprene Sleeve (Black): Electronics.

Been in touch with Newmodeus about a HDD caddy to replace the ODD.

They haven't had hold of the S7 yet and the model of ODD appears to be very new as they can't obtain specs for it.

Having said that however, there are some slot loading ODD HDD caddys on their site which MAY work:

2nd HDD/SSD Caddy to replace Macbook Unibody superdrive /optical [OBHD9-SATA-SATA-M1] - $42.00 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

2nd HDD or SSD Caddy for DELL Studio 1450, 1457, 1458 [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-NF] - $43.00 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

I suspect that they will get around to confirming one of them is compatible or implement a new one shortly.

Having asked the question earlier on the thread, I believe the limit is 16gb.

Obviously with the 4gb soldered that would leave 4gb+8gb as the max configuration, though as the earlier poster stated, it still might not get recognised by the bios.

    Hi guys,

please what is the weight of 15.6 model? Thank you

And just for beeing sure, when I order 15.6 it will be little bit smaller then standard 15.6 laptops right because of the thinner bezel?

For me it's due to a misaligned cable o someting similar, don't tink is actually a yellow led... The area it's too wide and too sharp the color transition for being caused by a different led...

One question: What is the wireless card used in the Series 7?

The hardware ID for the WiFi adapter on my Series 7 (Swedish model NP700Z5A-S01) is:
    PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4357&SUBSYS_7181144F&REV_01
which seems to be the Broadcom 43225 combined BT and single band 11n card.

Do you guys think it's possible to replace the screen? Either with a glossy or a better matte screen?

I don't mean by samsung, I mean by myself.

I know how to replace SSD, Ram and almost everything else. Did this every time by myself, but I have never replaced a display.

Any concerns? Maybe thickness of the screen? Size should be 15.6" , right? I mean there should be few screens that should work in this laptop, don't you think?

The problem is not replacing the screen, it's finding for sale a screen that fits a small bezel and is using the same connector as the samsung one. Chances are there is none at a decent price, this may even be the cause of the crappy TN, maybe small bezel screen's quality hasn't ramped up yet.

You have to consider the thickness and the thin bezel, this can lead to problems of regular screens I think...
