It's a bit bulkier than the other simillar ones that I have considered, including the Samsung Chronus, but it might very well be interesting aswell. I'll take it into consideration. Thanks for the tip!

I'm a HP user for a long time, and there were no problems for me with their laptops so far. I would rather go for Pro or EliteBook series, but for a lousy GPU...
-
Yes I am also now considering the envy but I will have to atleast upgrade the screen and it is quite large

Just got my Series 7 (i7, 6 GB RAM, 6750M) shipped home. I'll be home for thanksgiving so I'll have time to do a few tests/first impressions.
Anything you guys want me to look out for? Mine was ordered form JR.com
EDIT: Does anyone know if the regular mini displayport adapater for macs would work for this laptop? -
There's been a discussion about whether it's a Mini-DisplayPort or a Mini-VGA. Unless there's regional variation...
-
Hello,
I have a little problems with:
Display driver stopped responding. (sometimes it successful recovered but on most is blue screen).
90% it happens when watching YOutube.com, screen first becomes green, thans for a sec is normal than it freezes and than I get BLUE SCREEN. And laptop restarts.
This green screen on youtube I had already first day when I bought it. Now is also rebooted with blue screen.
After restart it is just written that windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown.
What to do? Should I reinstall driver for graphic card?
I tried to download some drivers from SAMSUNG.
Where to download drivers for Europe?
I can not chose model (it is disabled) can you?
Samsung
On these site only for USA is working, but also the last driver for Graphic card is broken file, and you can not extract.
I have final edition of chronos Germany has s03.
So witch model to download: s03 or s04? But new drivers from November do not work.
Samsung
Any other site or install older driver again?
What to do with this problem?
Thanks a lot -
Go to google and type in Ati 11.11 Beta Driver. Those should probably be more stable
EDIT: Nevermind. Use this link and scroll down to instructions. You'll find a download link there. -
thanks maan
So this is absolutely OKey?
But is this also driver for graphic card?
I dont understand when laptop switch to Radeon graphic card. just automatic or can be manually?
how can I know withc one is running? -
No it doesn't work, I have posted tons of posts about this, please see back in this forum on pages 267.
-
Well if you go on Samsung, those drivers are usually are what Samsung recommends to use for stability purposes. The problem is they're a Electronics manufacturing company and could care less to update these drivers if there's no major issue.
Ati on the other hand will constantly pump out new drivers that fix graphical and performance issues, which is a high priority for them so they can keep up with competition.
As a common practice, you should always update new graphics drivers before seeking technical help. -
Do you know if the new driver's work with BF3, and if people with the green screen causing BSOD issues can comment if this fixed it for all of them that would be wonderful. I again do not know what laptop I want...erght

I would like more information about the display port adapter as well and certainly didn't see where Mark838 had made "tons of posts" about this on page 267
It looks like he just ordered the Samsung version....
Will any other mini-display port adapter or standard display port adapter work with the Samsung. I read somewhere else in the forum that one Samsung rep had indicated a Dell part would work, where another Samsung rep had indicated it had to be the Samsung part. Has anyone successfully used a non-Samsung display port adapter for hooking up a VGA monitor to their Series 7? -
well if you would used search you would have found those pages beyond 267, just to save you from further hassle none of these work. In desperation I needed to hook up second monitor and have tried all similar type of connectors. I spoke to two different Samsung reps and they told me that this port is specific and ONLY used on sammy models (regardless if this is true I have been unable to find similar adapter except sammy own parts which am now waiting!) Hope this helps.

I'd consider one if the ENVY 15 had a numeric keypad. Instead, they wasted precious space around the keyboard with both empty space and that volume knob.

Between the space bar and the BSOD while watching YouTube... mine has been put on its way back to J&R. Paid $19 to ship it back. But totally worth it for the peace of mind I'll get from a more reliable laptop..
My hard drive also clicked every 10 or so seconds. A very faint click- but definitely audible when the surrounding is quiet. -
I would really like if more satisfied people would also post their comments here. The thing is mostly dissatisfied people visit forums to 'vent out' their dissatisfaction...
-
I am satisfied
But my spacebar is working and I have no problems with youtube/BSODs/GPU switching/clicking harddrives etc.
Most likely I have no problems with graphics related stuff because I'm not using Samsung drivers.
The Touchpad needed some adjustments at the beginning to my personal likings, but now is fluent and how I like it. -
What drivers do you use?
-
Was posted many times already, but here you are.
-
I got a note from one of the major retailers here in Sweden (Dustin) when I asked what was up with the 700Z5A and why it was gone, and they replied that Samsung couldn't deliver them due to the harddrive shortage. Same with 700Z3A. So those few that exists right now will be the only ones for a while it seems.
-
I was about to mention you, but than decided not to mention anyone. Indeed, you have been posting objective remarks from the very begining, addressing all the important issues and leading the way with competent advices. Thank you for that
-
Well I eventually got my hands on one of these laptops (in UK from John Lewis, 3 yr Guarantee), and I have been using it for 2 days.
My first impressions were a bit mixed; the trackpad is almost unuseable with all of the gestures enabled. After disabling most, and getting used to the fact that you have to apply slightly more force than most trackpads when moving around and clicking, I have started to get used to it, and its perfectly useable. I also got the green screen freeze with flash videos, but updating to latest drivers and switching off hardware acceleration in flash fixed this (I might re-enable now).
Although the screen isnt the best, I would still say it is perfectly fine, even good. I probably wouldnt have noticed if people didnt start saying how bad it was. Viewing angles are OK and the image and colours are crisp in my eyes.
I ran 3DMark06 in performance mode and got over 10,000. In battery saving mode I got over 5500.
Does anyone know where I could purchase a spare power adapter for this laptop? -
Nice to hear that my information was useful
-
Btw if people still looking for it. It's now in stock for Tiger direct.
-
Any ways i got a Swedish model in Finland .. they are available here atleast ....
-
Can someone verify that this thing has quad cores with hyper threading, supporting a total of 8 threads? Many thanks.
-
best buy has the (watered down) version for $150 off on black friday
-
There are retailers in Sweden with it aswell, but they only have a limited supply and they will not be getting any new ones atm according to the information I got.
-
Yes it has. Atleast the i7 version
-
Yes thats correct, you can see more here Intel® Core? i7-2675QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.20 GHz))
I do lot of extensive cpu stuff and this is just amazing fast... -
I already asked this, but no one answered - is it possible to buy an extended warranty form Samsung (something like the one HP offers)?
-
Depends on where you live...
I have 4 years extended Samsung warranty in Germany, can be different in other countries. -
Well, I live currently in Moscow but the S7 will be bough in USA. That's why I need something international...
-
Many people here seem to be dissatisfied with the quality of the screen... As someone coming from sub $800 laptops, will I be disappointed? When people say the screen is cruddy, do they mean that it's not on part with MBP, radiance, etc., or that even most $500 best buy laptops have better screens?
-
am perfectly happy wiith my screen, infact its exactly on bar what i would expect from matte screen, I don't know what people are complaining about it mine is just fine.
-
Having finally seen it in person, I'll agree with you... BUT, only if you'll calibrate it using Windows Color Calibration... I don't remember, I'm sure I decreased the blue component, and I've also modified the gamma, but can't recall if I increased or decreased it...
I've a question to ask... maybe it's related to the specific exemplar that I viewed... it has a lot of flex!! Not only above the slot load, but also when pressing (not so hard to be honest) on the space between keyboard and the screen hinge... With a force of say 2Kgs, the chassis went down about a centimeter! After that, I could press as hard as I would but it won't move any further, I think it reached with the bottom the shelf where it was standing... Does this happen also with the US model? To me it seems like it was made with rubber
very strange... Well, it might be a faulty one, but it was a fairy scary impression... The flex would become evident also when typing with a lot of force, it wasn't the keyboard, but the entire chassis to deform..
-
If you want you can get every laptop to flex.
But if you are regularly typing with 2Kg of force or using this kind of force everytime, then I would suggest a Toughbook or something similar...
no offense... -
Well you're right... but it really scared me when I pushed it a bit... the chassis went down like a cardboard... none of the laptop that I've tried in the past did this... I've also said that during regular typing nothing happens, but when applying just a little more force it start to flex noticeably...
Try with yours, push the area between the keyboard and the screen... maybe (I repeat) was a flaw of the specific exemplar, I don't know...
EDIT & ADDENDUM: pushing the same area with roughly the same force of an Acer that was aside the S7 the deformation was barely noticeable... less than 1mm... the samsung hit the shelf with the bottom... just think that... -
If I push it hard it goes down there, but its logical because there is the empty space for the vents. This also happens where the DVD drive is.
So if you can't live with it, don't buy it, I'm sure its the same on all S7 models. -
Well, excuse me, it isn't logical that with so little pressure (for that machine it wasn't so hard) a chassis made "with alluminium"
rolleyes
deforms 'till touching the table underneath... It's not for buying or not buying, it's to know, and it's strange that none of the reviewers noticed this... I could live with the area over the DVD, but the entire chassis is very strange... and no, man, not any laptop will flex... try with the Dell Latitude series, and let me know...
-
I've seen posts in this thread that say the laptop has been "discontinued." What exactly do they mean? Do they mean that Samsung has ceased production? If so, why? Or do they mean that certain resellers have run out of stock or stopped carrying the laptop? I noticed that availability was kind of low. Many online retailers don't have it at all, and amazon only has 8 units of one of the models.
-
From the information I got from one of the major Swedish retailers, it is not discontinued, but Samsung cant deliver them due to hard drive shortage, and that is why the availability is very low.
-
Its really a nice laptop for people who dont care about the screen as its not that bad as i was expecting it , 2nd thing that was really bothering me ws the heating issue on the base in a specific place when playing game or doing some high Graphics stuff.... rest its quite good i have MCBOOK pro with 6450 and its quite different in respect of Heating problem so if any one of you really bothered by the heating issue so i would suggest try it first in shop and feel the heat on its base before buying ....
-
Where you expecting no build up of heat when you do something graphically intensive?
-
i did some stress tests with 100%cpu and gpu performance and of course it got warm.
i can confirm the temperatures shown at the bottom of the page here :
Test Samsung Serie 7 700Z5A Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests
because i made a 100% test with core2maxperf and furmark the temperatures where about 3-5°C warmer as those on the picture.
but in reality you will never utilise your notebook this much
and by the way who playes games while having his notebook on his tights?
and i never got temps above 85°C for the cpu and the gpu never went above 65°C and the cpu was definitly not throttling!
and always remember those programms put stress on your hardware you will never reach in reality. -
Out of curiosity I tried it with a Dell Latitude E6510
It still flex, especially where the speakers are, so when you press there the keyboard goes down too. And that thing is huge compared to the S7 with massive amount of plastic used.
I have to agree with you its noticeable, but not a nogo for me. -
Im a proud owner of this laptop now, hello to everyone )
There is only NO backlit, No Express cache version in russia now in stock (and thats good for me, cause at first I changed HDD to Intel SSD). The price is near 1300 USD.
I already removed the DVDrom, and, FYI, its weight = 142 g. So, now the weight of my laptop is 2217 g. I hope thats interesting for someone except me. ;-)
IMO, this sammy has the best internal architecture I ever saw (i had 8 laptops), very accurate, compact and useful.
PS: Screen and heating are absolutely acceptable for me.
And sorry for my english ) -
No need to apologise, could you post a vid or pics of the laptop without the dvd drive? Do you think you can fit a second hard drive inside the vacant space.
-
Image 1322211163-clip-69kb.jpg - view of the bottom side of DVDRom, you can see it on Ganxxta pics.
Image 1322211725-clip-33kb.jpg - view of the top side of DVDRom
Image 1322211651-clip-26kb.jpg - on-dvd connectors
Image 1322211322-clip-135kb.jpg - inside the laptop, 1 = audio, smth like speakers, 2 = dvd connector in the laptop. I couldnt check pin number or anything, its yesterday pics (
So, dp3000, i bet its possible, but i dont know where and how to find acceptable cradle and connectors, cause this slot differs from standart HDD formfactor and connectors. And, i cant understand why do you need it, SATA3 external HDD is much better option, IMO ) -
Hey folks I have been a loooooooooooong time follower and I decided to finally join today. I purchased my Samsung NP700Z5AS04US Laptop from JR.com through Amazon.com on November 8, 2011. That's right I was lurking around here and heard that JR.com was shipping it out and I snagged the last one that week and cancelled my order from Tigerdirect. I am completely happy with my purchased. I had a few hiccups and a blue screen when trying to view youtube videos. I downloaded the AMD drivers and did a recovery and everything works fine now!! The screen is not major issue as some people make it out to be. I also want to point out that Samsung stay true to its specs which alot of other manufacturers fail to do.
If I have a major complaint it would be that the trackpad is so difficult to manuver sometime.
Also so want to bring your attention to this Is Samsung giving up on netbooks next year? -- Engadget this is where all those rumours are coming from!
