There is a light sensor the left next to the lights that says power and etc.
Hope your not blocking it or giving it a lot of random light.

Could be mid December or near end of December. No one really knows until it's actually shelved.

This has nothing to do with the light sensor. The auto brightness control is off.
Its either a driver problem or a physical defect of the laptop, think of it as brightness flickering but only on battery.

On battery, it's using the Intel HD3000 which exhibits the same issue on my current ENVY14 whereby the brightness will increase a few levels and then drop down randomly.

Okay, guys. Sorry for getting back to this .ICC issue so late. I was too busy playing Skyrim this weekend! haha.

I looked through my System32 path that one of you suggested. There's a lot of .icc files in there, but this one looks like it was updated around the time that I calibrated my screen.

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F7GHFG7E

Let me know if this works.

I have set switchable graphics to high performance for Windows Media Player, Chrome browser, Internet Explorer, VLC Media Player, Flash Video and iTunes. Yet when I play video in You Tube or in Windows Media, the AMD Radeon HD 6750M is not being used. Any idea how to get Flash Video to use the 6750?

Also, what is the best way to measure the Windows Experience Index for the AMD Radeon 6750M card instead of the native Intel Graphics? All my other scores are very high as I have upgraded to 8 Gb of RAM and the Samsung series 830 6GB/s SSD. The bottleneck now is the video performance.

I second the query. I've been trying to oc the 6750m a la the macbook pro, but the card seems to be locked. Apparently, it seems to be cakewalk on the same card in a Macbook Pro. I have tried pretty much all of the new catalyst drivers as well as the different iterations of the MSI Afterburner betas. Also tried the Ati Tray Tools, GPU clock tool and pretty much all oc software out there.
Anyone out there who has managed to successfully oc their card?

To the people having trouble with the adaptive brightness, disable it in power options (advanced) and disable adaptive contrast in the intel 3000 control panel. Also worth checking out is the "location and other sensor" option in control panel. Mine is now a constant brightness regardless of the video contrast.

    Edit: Spelling :D

    i have a question:

samsung has a feature which allows you to limit the charging capacity of your battery to 80%.
I noticed that even when you turn your laptop off it is not charged over 80%.

you can also unplug it and plug it in again. after one hour the battery was not over 80% (and yes it was at 80% when i turned the laptop off^^).

    so my question is:
is it possible to write some software that disables the charging of the battery?

It is controlled by the BIOS, thats why it works when Laptop is off.

So unless you have the API or source code access to the Samsung Bios it is not possible to write a Software to (completely?) disable charging...

The Samsung Software is only a graphical Interface for the User to enable this 80% setting, but not really necessary.

It's not really controlled by the Bios, since that isn't on either when the laptop is off. You can control this feature from the Bios aswell as Samsungs Software, but the actual feature does not reside in the Bios and is most likely just a modification of the normal unit that handles charging the battery and telling when to stop charging because its full etc.

I second this. To me the Easysettings/bios set the maximum charge percentage right in the battery control board. The OS is in fact able to communicate with the battery, to read discharge level and ratio, wear level, manufacturer and so on...

Also the VGA is bi-directional. Samsung used to ship a software to set monitor parameters right from windows instead of using the front panel (my Syncmaster does that).

To prolong battery life, should I plug it in only when the battery is at x% or should I leave it plug-in most of the time? What should X be, 5, 25, or 50 percent? Thanks!

In general, the shallower the charge cycles are, the better it is.
Translated: plug it in any time you can/want.

Bluetooth it's integrated in the wifi card (in most markets, not in the USA bestbuy version). Firewire it's impossible to add. No expansion slot are provided.

Has anyone tried installing WiDi (Intel Wireless Display Technology) software on this computer and connect it to a Push2TV (Belkin or Netgear) adapter/tv?

After research I have learned that the Samsung version (not best buy) has the graphics properties, processor, and wireless capabilities to run this program. I believe the software can be downloaded and used without any issues.

    It won't work.
The Series 7 uses a Broadcom dual WiFi/Bluetooth card, NOT the Intel required. Thus, Intel WiDi won't work unless you're going to swap with an 6230 card.

Haven't tried the improvements (I need to carry it to the shop next time I go in it, next week... :D )

Procedure: double click on it. It won't output anything. Open Control Panel, in the search box write Color, open Color Management (or similar, I've Windows in italian, it's "Gestione Colori"), click Add, select Monitor_27.11.2011_1, click ok, select it in the list, press Set as Default and close all windows. You can see by yourself the different adding to the list the default sRGB one and switch back and forth.

    Hey Robo-Man,
You can turn off the feature in Easy Settings (Fn+F1), and pressing on the "Power Management" tab, 2nd box!
I've tried it out a few times already, I get about 5h of battery life with 80% charge =D So I just keep the Battery Life Extender on.

the idea behind was to completely disable the charching of the battery when pluged in. with this you would be able to save a lot of charching cycles when working at the office where you can always use a power socket.

it was only a quick idea because i thought that samsung somehow disables the carching by software and maybe you would be able to set the limit to 10% with a litle bit of software.
but i see it is very hard to impossible^^

Im still hesitating too. I'd like to see the envy in person or at least a review since it has a crappy GPU (7670m = fail, it's at best equal to the 6750m if not slower).

If you consider the 6750m a crappy GPU you are really looking at the wrong kind of notebooks. You should prob go for some Alienware or an Asus G74 or so...

Did I say the 6750m was crappy ? No.
I said it was a better GPU than the new 7670m because it has DDR5 instead of DDR3 which is sad for the envy 15.

    Let me requote you:
You say that the 7670m is a crappy GPU and and you compare it to the 6750m, which pretty much insinuates that the 6750m is crappy aswell, which more or less includes all other GPUs of the same power, like the Nvidia GT 550M.

And sure, you are very free to feel that way, I just pointed out that if you think the performance of GPUs in that class is crappy, then you prob want to look for a more "hardcore" gaming machine.

At best equal (if they insanely clocked it up which i doubt) if not slower = 0 to 30% slower than the 6750 because that's the benefit of DDR5 over DDR3 with the very same card. The 7690 is the DDR5 version of the 7670 (DDR3). The 7690 is about equal to a 555M or 6770M which are themselves about 10% faster than the 6750M.
I don't call 30% less a similar performance since thats pretty much the gain of going to the "hardcore gaming 4kg laptops" category.

If I am not mistaken there is a vent in the hinge a la the macbook for the expelled air.

    Verge Review is up. http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/8/2618862/samsung-series-7-chronos-review
I think they lowballed the score. I can't wait for mine to show up this weekend.

Also, does anybody know if I am getting mine from the Microsoft store in San Diego, will it come with the preinstalled trial software. I recall reading somewhere that that is removed in the Microsoft store models? I don't really want the launcher bar the verge mentions.

Is the current Broadcom WiFi card soldered in or is it easy to change? Once the physical card is in place what software will I have to install (just the drivers?)

Is there a step by step guide for removing and installing the Intel Wireless card?
