Did you update to the newest drivers?
You could try disabling it in device manager.
-
-
Well if i do that, i'll always have to enable it to use it no?
I used the easy settings to turn it off, but it turns it on after a reboot.
I guess I'll have to do a manual download because easy manager is showing me nothing for updates!
ALSO I updated the lastest graphics .. but now on every startup i get this
intel igfxtray asking to run , kind of annoying!!
It wasn't doing this before the vga update. after the update its doing it on every reboot. I know i can remove them from start up, but i dont know what cause them to popup a security warning on each reboot asking to start. -

Have a look in the BIOS (press F2 at the BIOS screen) and see if there is an option to set the wireless devices to use the last setting.
John -
Just got prompted to upgrade to a new 11FD bios. No changelog provided. It doesn't even seem to be listed on either the US or SG Samsung website. Anyway, i just went for it but so far I don't see any difference yet. At least it didn't brick my machine unlike a previous experience with my old Dell Studio XPS 16..
-
That's kind of weird. At first mine with startup but after some updates it stopped.
As John say early try checking the bios. -
So,
I was downloading some updates, from the samsung site
What is the difference in drivers that say MS Store, or Costco? aren't they all the same drivers? -
Yeh there is no settings,
I have updated the drivers and bios etc, There aren't any bluetooth drivers available that i see.
just ones front like november that it has installed -
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying 15.6" version (previously I was more like 14" but changed my mind). There are different 15.6" models and I'm a little bit confused. So, I ask for help.
1. In Best Buy there is S01UB i7 and a Radeon 6490, weak GPU. 999$
2. Tigerdirect: S04US: i7 and Radeon 6750, looks nice, but no WIDI, so no intenl WIFI, probably Broadcom with weak wifi ranges. 1265$
3. Tigerdirect: S203: i5 and radeon 6750 with WIDI, so it's probably Intel 6230 Wifi module. So this one seems to be ok. 999$
4. Tigerdirect: S0AUS: i7 and Radeon 6750 with WIDI, also probably Intel 6230, only difference to no.3 is the processor and HD - here 1TB (probably 5400rpm
), no.3 has 500GB (maybe 7200rpm).
Are there any better models which I haven't mentioned? Which one should I choose? -
How about the one that was offered by J&R? The NP700Z5A-S03US? Does that have WIDI? Didn't even bother to check before I ordered it...
-
I also ordered this one from JR. It was shipped and arrived in less than a week. Unfortunately I live out of the US and had it shipped to a friend. I won't get it until the end of this month when I go to the US, so I have the same question as you have about the WIDI.
If you find out let me know please. It looked like the best model to order, I am hoping it has the WIDI though. -
We're in the same boat, my friend. I also live outside of the US and just had it sent to a friend. She'll then still have it sent to me. So, I will most likely get it in April still. -
@mqavila, I live in Canada and bought my series 7 S03 laptop from J&R. They ship to Canada too. Only you have to pay shipping which is about $60 and tax which is about $170. I got my laptop about four days after I placed my order. It was a very efficient service.
-
Who charges that tax, the Canadian customs people? Because J&R doesn't charge tax to anyone outside New York City
-
Does it have WIDI? What kind of Wifi card does it have, if you know?
-
The one from J&R does not have WIDI the s03.
Customs Charges tax. Since they use UPS worldwide express it has to be cleared.
I live in Ontario and i Paid 173$ in taxes at the door
-
Is the WiFi card Broadband or Intel?
-
The WiFi card was Broadband in laptop sold by J&R. I bought Intel WiFi card from Canada's computers for $29 and replaced it. This replacement job is very easy and there is a separate forum for how to replace the intel card. I have some postings over there too.
-
Could you direct me to the link for the posts please?
-
The person from UPS who delivers the laptop to your door will charge the tax. You pay him/her either cash or give him/her your credit card number and it will be changed automatically. You will get receipt of the tax about two weeks after by the mail.
-

Should I redirect my question about the best model between Samsung series 7 there? (second thread posted by you)
EDIT: redirected
-
seriously, y rnt u guys ordering from Microsoft store? excellent price, microsoft signature is totally awesome, very good return n warranty polices, i ordered the s02us model-i7, 6750, 750 7200rpm, 6gb, n its totally the best experience i have ever had with any computer. One thing though, no way in hell does this laptop give 8hrs. 5:30 hrs maybe, on 100% battery. but on 80% battery life extender profile, i get 4:30. :O
-
Maybe if you try lowest battery setting, lowest bightness, no wifi and no applications just leaving it on. It could possible do 8 hours. But it's has been tested to only do about what you got. I get 5 hours on just wifi and google chrome and SciTE which is like notepad for programming.

New Series 7 owner...
Wondering if anyone else has noticed the F11 or FN+F11 key doesn't seem to do anything?
It seems like the corresponding setting, Silent Mode, in Easy Settings, does the same thing as what I would IMAGINE this hardware key would do, but pressing the key doesn't correspond to any settings change within Easy Settings, nor does it put up any indicator on-screen that anything has been changed settings-wise, and there is no discernable change in system noise level after toggling this hardware key.
Can anyone else test this out? -
it does. it quitens down the fans and i think(not sure) slows down the cpu. I think its meant for movie mode/video calling.
But weird thing, whenever i skype with my gf, she says she hears a weird buzzing noise from my end. i figured its the fan, so turned silent mode on, then she said its not happening continuously, but intermittently. then when i plugged it in, she said the noise was gone. this is contrary to what i would expect (well i would expect a 1000$ laptop to not suffer from such a design flaw, but hohum...) but even so, i would expect the fans to rotate more at plugged in than on battery, ergo, causing more noise when plugged in.
I just went on and bought a microsoft lifecam cinema instead of worrying my pretty head over it!
But to answer your question, pressing this key actually brings up a dialogue box saying "silent mode on/off" -
Yeah, I'm strongly considering getting the S02 from the Microsoft Store rather than the S09 from B&H, because for just 50 bucks more I get the superior i7 processor and the larger hard drive, both which make for better longevity, and I can simply upgrade the RAM from 6GB to 8GB down the road if I choose to.

For anyone out there who is considering purchasing this laptop, beware:
The BATTERY on this laptop is a BIG PROBLEM.
I purchased this laptop a couple of months ago after reading all of the positive reviews on this site. Initially, I was very happy with my purchase. I found the screen to be fully acceptable for my needs, and overall the laptop looked and worked great.
Fast-forward to today. Everything is fine as before... except the battery now lasts only about 1.5hours. Granted, I have used the laptop a lot but this type of battery deterioration is still not acceptable.
So if you are considering this laptop, do not count on long battery life. It will work fine initially but battery will not hold charge the same way after just a few short months.
Otherwise, aside from poor battery life and a couple of minor quirks (e.g. mouse controls could have been better), it's a fantastic laptop all around.
Thanks! -
Thanks for the tip, but did you ever think that this problem might not affect all S7s, and could be limited to your particular unit? Unless other users are reporting the same issue, generalizing about all S7 batteries on the basis of your particular experience doesn't make sense.
Did you use the battery extender function for these few short months? -
You might want to service the laptop or exchange it for a new one. Or at least calibration the battery. At first, my battery was superb. I got about 4 hours more before I plugged the charge in about 20%, which was about another hour at max.
-
I've had my S7 for almost 4 months, and I get over 5hrs without any problems on my battery.
-
I don't think this is an isolated issue.
Keep in mind that I use my laptop a lot. I work as an engineer and always run resource intensive programs. I almost never turn my laptop off. So my 2-3 months of use probably equates to 5-6 months of casual use.
So just a warning to everyone out there evaluating this laptop-- the battery will deteriorate quickly.
Otherwise, this is a fantastic machine. -
Same as mine. My old HP had been replaced twice for the battery in just 1 year. After that, I didn't have any warranty left and I didn't trust HP battery so I went to purchase aftermarket. The new battery was much bettery and after half year, the wear level still about 2%. I did not even calibration my battery for a while too, plus I always use AC adapter. Well let's see in about next few months if mine battery would behave like that. Right now it is about 1% wear, and I'm hating the max cap at 98% that Samsung implement.
-
I still believe you are generalizing too much. I have had mine about 4-5 months too and I have not deterioration. I can play games a few hours at a time without ever worrying about the battery. I see this as anecdotal evidence and I would get your computer looked at.

Hey guys,
just got the laptop and I need to put my SSD in, however, I used the wrong size screwdriver at first at stripped two of the screws down pretty good.....any suggestions? Should I take it into a computer repair or somthing? sucks, bc i can't use the thing until i get the SSD in.
Thanks in advance
-
I use mine a lot aswell, since I use it for work, and I am also run alot of "crap" on it all the time, since I use local virtual servers for all my development projects. And I never turn it off either, and never reboot or even shut it off, I just let it go to sleep when I sleep, more or less.
I think it's time you accept that you might have a faulty machine, not that it's generally poor quality. -
There is a post on the Owner Lounge that explain how you can get rid of the stripped screws. If you cannot do that, just go some tech service to get it done, otherwise, you would damage the latop much worst.
-
Who can tell if there are any display improvements in new S09 and S0US versions?
I mean angle views, gamut, etc... Still the same poor quality as S01-04 series?
Thanks! -
I think the screen on my S7 is great, but I sit infront of the computer all the time, not any weird angles. Also the ICC profile made everything look alot more vibrant.
-
Anyone know if the Samsung Optimized Power Option actually acts as High performance when the AC is plugged in and power saver when the laptop is disconnected?
-
hi everyone am not sure if there is another tread for this but does anyone know when the updated ivy bridge versions rolling into stores? cant see even specs on sammys website yet.

You don't need to look far. Start with this thread.

So, has anyone identified a cooling pad for the 15.6" Series 7 that reduces temps significantly?
I want to prevent overheating when gaming for an hour or more during the summer. This one looks good, but I don't want to spend the money only to find out it can't cool the S7 effectively due to position of vents, etc.
Cheers for any suggestions.
I started a seperate topic on this, but responses have been lacking.

Just a "hello" from a new 700 owner.
I'll read all the pages. By now I'm very disappointed.
My model 700z5a-S02IT seems VERY SLOW:
- Firefox and even Explorer are laggy
- pad sometimes gets crazy
- every time I log not as admin the two-finger gestures are down
- HDD is DEAD SLOW
- express cache is NOT so fast (sometimes it take Seconds 5,7, to start a progam)
I think I wasted 1300 euro
Bye everybody.
Greetings from Italy -
If everything is dead slow, you may ave received a lemon
Did you upgrade everything?
I also have a slight problem when I turned on my S09US today.
There was a single loud beep at bootup...and then it never happened again. Strange. -
Hello everyone,
I've had the Chronos 15.6 since 23 jan this year but it has bin repaired twice already and now I have a new problem. Since a week it doesen't see the built in HD6870M anymore, only the HD300. I've restored twice from a official dvd from samsung and a clean install from my windows 7 dvd. No luck though.
I have also reinstalled the drivers countless times already. With driversweeper of course. Any ideas? getting 10-15 fps in MW:3 with everyting on low is no fun... One more thing, I upgraded mine with a Samsung 830 series 256GB SSD and 8GB kingston RAM.
Thanks! -
That's pretty unlucky. I've had no hardware issues at all with mine. It sounds like your GPU might have failed altogether if you can't see it at all in device manager or GPU-Z. You should probably send it back in for repair (or ideally, they'll replace the unit altogether for you).
-
Yeah, I called Samsung today and they want to investigate it at their repair centre. Gonna take 2 tot 4 weeks (ouch).
So hopefully the replace the whole laptop with a shiny new one. -
I'm working on a comparison of the NP700Z5C with the Sony S15 -- if you're interested in the pros/cons of each please check out: http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...30-impressions-sony-s15-samsung-np700z5c.html

hey guys,
I got this laptop last week primarily for use in audio production. However, I'm having some serious issues with latency. I'm running latencymon as a diagnostic tool, and it says ''your system seems to have difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Pantel and Bios setup. Check for bios updates.''
I've done just about everything, disable cpu throttling, updated bios, and I'm also running a cleanly installed windows. Also, in the drivers tab, it appears the highest execution drivers are ''ACPI.sys'' and ''ntoskrnl.exe.'' I would really like to fix this issue asap and get started on my work. Any ideas? Your input would be greatly appreciated, thanks. -

1. Try uninstalling the Intel Storage driver and just use the Microsoft default.
2. Is there a difference if you turn off WiFI and Bluetooth
3. Work through Device Manager and see the effect of turning off any other non-essential hardware.
