I think the Samsung reps are pretty much clueless.

Can someone explain to me why Samsung chose the have the left offset for the trackpad? I fail to see the benefit of it from an ergonomic standpoint. It seems center or even right offset would be better served. What am I missing?

The trackpad is deliberately placed in line with the spacebar since that is the center of the main keyboard.

Yes it did - to $879.99
I just ordered - it says that it is in-stock to pick up at my local store so maybe I may get lucky and be able to pick it up later.

Saves a nice chunk of cash, I'm fine sacrificing the 6750, but does that one have the Express Cache?

I hope you guys understand that this particular laptop is a 15.6" screen with AMD 6490M GPU..
    not AMD 6750M gpu..
    AMD Xeymour(Seymour) = 6490M GPU

and also someone said this model on best buy doesn't come with express cache and also the hard drive is 5400rpm...

Not sure why they dropped the price all of sudden....

Is anyone that is going to buy one early planning on opening it up? I'm interested in knowing the size of the Slot-Load DVD drive... Want to know if its 9.7 or 12.5MM and if it can be potentially swapped out with a blu-Ray Slot Load.

If it dropped to $879 this might be a really good deal for some people. Granted it doesn't have a 6750M, but I don't plan on playing many video games. Also the price difference of $270 is more than enough to purchase a 120gb ssd.

Hmmm does the BestBuy version have Express Cache though?

And wouldn't Amazon still be cheaper because of the no tax?

If your state tax was 10%, then the difference is still roughly $180. You can use that money you saved to buy a ssd, in which case you won't need an express cache.

For 180 more, I am still going to go with the amazon one for a better video card, expresscache and faster hd. You could get a pretty sweet SSD for the price difference but I think the video card upgrade is worth it. The best buy one looks like a pretty sweet deal if you don't plan on gaming on it at all.

    Screw caching...

Anyone have a clue on whether I can drop an M4 in this thing? More specifically did they cheap out on the SATA III interface for the HD and go with a SATA II to save $0.30?

    its extremely simple though.

i'm may be picking one of these up for my parents, and depending on the speed of this express cache, i'll likely go the ssd route and pick up an 128 gig M4 or something.
they have no need for a 750 gig drive and the M4 should make the system blaze.

It is one of the easiest and significant improvements you can make to a notebook with a conventional drive. Wait for a new owner to confirm compatability and slap 1 in with a small phillips head screw driver. The M4 would be sweet.

I think most of us are waiting. I am waiting for Amazon to get it. Also hoping someone lowers the price for the 1150 one. Especially since best buy did! That would be fantastic!

That's a different model. The $1150 ($1130 at TigerDirect) is a much better machine on all levels--I think Best Buy just figured the budget model wouldn't sell.

On edit, I see what you mean now--yeah, a corresponding price drop would be really nice.

I was close to getting a Sony SA laptop this past summer, but I'm glad I didn't because Samsung's Series 7 laptop looks like the perfect one for me. Do any of you know if we should be able to order these laptops on Samsung's website and customize the CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, Graphic Card, Windows, etc., similar to Sony's CTOs?

Does anyone know how much the 14" screen version might cost? I want to know because I bought a QX411 a month ago for $680 and don't want to feel too bad if the Series 7 was near the price I was willing to pay.

I just got mine from Best Buy today. It's a beautiful machine with a gorgeous display but there are a few oddities that I'm trying to figure out.

The hard drive was formatted in such a way that there is only 50GB of the 750GB drive attributed to the C partition. There's a 20GB recovery partition, a 100MB system partition and a 628GB temporary partition (none of which have a drive letter attributed to them. An novice user would think they only had a 50GB drive. I can see all 4 partitions in disk management but this certainly doesn't seem normal.

Also, it doesn't appear to have a backlit keyboard nor bluetooth as advertised.

More odd still is the fact that it came with the classic theme activated and no Samsung desktop background or any of the other typical manufacturer logos or aspects to the theme.

All of this leads me to believe that this laptop was unintentionally shipped with an unfinalized disk image. Perhaps a beta version.

I'm going to try to contact Samsung tomorrow. Hopefully they will be easy to reach by phone.

Thanks for your reply and info regarding the laptop.. im thinking u were the one who posted the review on best buy site the other day.. thanks for signing up and providing us with the info...

anyways its pretty strange you got it today.. and from what your saying it does look like a unfinished product that got delivered to u... and all the samsung series 7 laptops have backlit keyboards.. it uses a light sensor up in front so if the room is dark it will light up..

by the way, does your laptop have express cache?? i know ur kinda confused but pls do post back with some more details and keep us updated.

I'm actually not the person who posted on Best Buy's site. I just walked into the store today and the salesperson said that they had just received a laptop that met the specs that I was looking for. He pulled it out of the cage (it wasn't even on display yet) and showed it to me. I bought it on the spot. It was the only one that they had received so far. I didn't even know at the time that the website says "Pre-Order" only. Perhaps he wasn't supposed to sell it yet. Not that I'm complaining. :)

This is my first Windows 7 machine so I'm not sure what is bloat and what is Windows 7 stuff yet. It does have a Norton trial which I'm going to delete. It doesn't seem to have much else in the way of bloat that I can tell as of yet but I'll keep you posted as I play with it more.

What system info would you like me to post?

Ya do play around with it and post back.. kinda eager to know how it performs..
you can take a pic of the windows experience index and post it...

edit: since u said u were new to windows 7, right click on my computer , go to properties and you should see system info and windows experience index there..

you can also post detailed system info : Click on windows button, type system information & open it, then click on File on the top menu, and click Export, save as text file in documents and you can upload that text file on here..

I turned off every light in the room and no backlight. I looked everywhere for a backlight control in software and can't find anything. It also looks like the keys have labels on them rather than see-through letters.

thanks bro.. ya those results look about right.. since the gpu is 6490M....
for backlight , there is a sensor up in front right next to the power button..u should be able to see the sensor.. most likely its some software glitch that is disabling it or something.. and ur saying keys have labels.. ya this does sound like a unfinished product or maybe samsung sent this to best buy as a display unit and they accidentally sold it to u..

how long is the boot up time??? if its around 18sec then it has express cache... ya do post up more with some pics.. thanks a ton for all the info man..

ya i jus had a look there too.. but backlit keyboard is standard on every model.. i mean the way samsung promoted the samsung series 7 at IFA and eveywhere they were specifically talking about express cache and boot up and all the videos on youtube show every model having backlit keyboard...

no wonder Best Buy dropped the price today on its site...
lets wait and here more from Amandaville ...

It doesn't look like there's a light sensor on the photo provided from Amandaville. If you look at photos from review blogs, there's 4 lights adjacent to the power button, the leftmost being the light sensor for the backlight keyboard. There only seems to be 3 lights in the photo provided. Obviously the poster can easily prove/disprove that, but I thought I was being a little sneaky. :)
