I would say the screen quality in the previous series 7 was pretty bad. You can really tell playing games like MW3 as everything looks washed out and black looks grey. It also has a very narrow viewing angle making it difficult if you want to use it in bed or other setting which requires the screen to be tilted in a certain angle. Other than that the laptop was great, i missed having the quad core and the amd 6750m gpu as I have since switched to the Vaio SE. Hopefully they do put a better screen in the ivy bridge model.

14" coming?

As glossy screens are more vibrant and suitable of indoor usage, where else matte screens lack vibrancy and more suitable for outdoor usage.
Not to mention nVidia cards by default have more pop to them compared to AMD.
From the images and videos I've seen so far of this laptop everything looks ok to me...but of-course I'll have to see it first-hand with the new model to get a better image/idea. -
Guys, need your help and advice here, I'm in a bit of an awkward situation.
Just ordered the Sandy Bridge model which is arriving this Saturday and these guys (i.e. Sammy) are already announcing the new model.
My questions would be:
- do you think there's going to be a price premium compared to the current Sandy Bridge models just selling now? A big one?
- what about a delay until they are available?
I still have about 30 days to return this beauty, so I'm really looking to your advice and guidance.
I'm planning on using the machine for something unheard before(which I hope will work) - try to install a windows server 2008 and run one or two virtual machines using hyper-v.
Cheers! -
As written in one of my previous post, Samsung Canada already has the 15' model listed on their website.
Give or take 2 more weeks and you should be able to find them on store shelves.
As for pricing they'll probably debut with the same price tag the Sandy Bridge models were introduced with (which is a bit higher than the SB at the moment).
But hardware prices usually drop down a bit some weeks after release. -
Except that I'm... based in Europe. France to be more precise. Might take a bit longer until they're avail.
Do you remember what is the Delta between the initial price and actual price of the Sandy Bridge version 15.6 version?
Tried finding the initial price but can't seem to find a clear trace of it.. -
I'm in Europe also ''Pay Bas"
I could buy the German model already but their keyboard layout is different.
Between May 5th - May 8th for The Netherlands and Finland (Norway, Denmark, Sweden have it listed already but I didn't bother translating the pages).
So.....+2 weeks give or take. -
Goedendag!
Well, looks like for the same base config, the German listed price is about 100-150 euros higher than the SB.
I' think I'll return it. I just hope A****n will bring the new model up for sale soon. -
Call these guys maybe they'll have an exact date for France release.

The panel in the Samsung Series 7 is simply low quality.Color gamut is poor, contrast is low, and viewing angles are narrow, even for a TN panel. The strange thing is that Samsung produces some excellent panels for other laptops, monitors, and televisions. Samsung's use of a cheap panel for their own laptop is very strange.
To be fair though, the laptop is decent overall, and people tend to overlook screen quality. -
The screen isn't overall bad, not at all, it depends on what you are doing. If you mainly work on your computer and mainly have bright screens, like when using office or programming, then the screen is very good. Especially after using a ICC profile on it.
It might not be as good for darker things, like dark games, but alot of stationary TN panels have the exact same issue. Like the 26" Nec I have for my "main" computer.
So what you will use the computer for matters alot, and for me who use it mainly as a serious laptop to work on, the screen is great. -
We'll have to see if they changed the screen, I'll be using it for gaming, surfing, movies that's about it.
Though I didn't have the previous version so maybe I won't notice it.
Even so at best I'll be playing Counter-Strike: GO on it which is a rather bright game.
Forgot to mention that I'll be buying the 17'3 inch version, so maybe there's hope after all -
I'm not that good with those things and when I apply them I don't notice any difference.
A download link would be appreciated, unless you use the ones that come with Windows. -
So when is this going to be released? I really need a new laptop before Diablo III comes out Q_Q
-
I just talked with the person from tigerdirect, and I asked them about the 17 in model, and they said it will be available the 2nd week of May.

It's the one I use anyway. -
Sweet thanks, I'll try it once I get my hand on the laptop.

Does this laptop have the room for two hard drives so that I could put in more SSD without getting rid of the main hard drive or would it have to replace it?
-
Well, the current one barely has room for the one HDD, so I doubt the IB one will have room for a second. I don't even see any room for an mSATA slot...

Does anyone have any info on which 640m they will use (Fermi/Kepler)?
-
Looks like the series 7 is coming up on Chinese sites too.

Interesting that is shows DD3 memory for the 640m (vs the GDDR5 on the Samsung CA site)... also has anyone notice that it got heavier (2.4kg) ... hopefully they're just rounding up, but pushing this past its current weight in the SB versions is too much for me.

On another note, it looks like the 17-inch version is available:

Samsung is really making some eye catching designs. I know next to nothing about their reliability though.

Take a look here guys. This is new series 7 15 inches with Ivy Bridge.

This is 15 inches & it has 650M. You can see it in video. Maybe 15" model on Samsung Canada has lower version too like 6490M & 6750M in Sandy Series.
Yes, it looks more thicker than the previous one. Also, no slot loading dvd. It's tray loading. So, it will be bit heavier than previous one. -
The design looks different. There seems to be a different keyboard and the trackpad has separate buttons. The addition of JBL speakers
and the trey loading
would speak of a redo instead of a mere internals upgrade. If so I think the version is far inferior to the sandy in looks, not ugly but not as good.

check there. All are Sandy Bridge just 17" one. -

That doesn't look like a backlit keyboard either. -

This better not be their final version though. The SB Series 7 is the best looking laptop I have ever seen in it's class (15 in. powerhouses). What I saw in the video was run of the mill. Especially with the slot load, the worst change. They made it lighter grey as well it seemed to me, again comparing to MTR's review. The addition of buttons to the click pad are fine, not as good looking but still able to claim taste (however the SB click pad was curved, this one is not), but the hinge change is not good. And the new keyboard just isn't striking.
Over all it is not necessarily ugly and the changes seem to bring JBL speakers, better graphics, and maybe they fixed the wifi. But the aesthetics were one of the main selling points for the laptop (at least to me). When I see a pic of the SB version I fall in love. Not so with this one. Ah well... -
As the guy states at the beging of the video this is a samsung P550. The title of the video is wrong. as you can see it is not a series 7 and i wouldn't worry too much if any of you planned on buying the new series 7
Here is a link to that laptop from futureshop where it is available (in canada).

It looks as if there has been another video posted concerning the new 7 series (17" version) with the correct title & corresponding laptop this time (a first for Youtube
).
Samsung 17.3" i7 3615QM Nvidia 650 Laptop Review by Paul Nelson - YouTube
Anyone have any idea how he managed to get one so early? He says he'll be posting additional information in another video very soon... within a day or so.
By the way, from evidence in the video it certainly looks like the new 7 series has been given a more vivid screen. I know some people have been upset about washed out colors on the matte display in Sandy Bridge models. Hopefully they've improved it. -
Nvm, seems that the new ugly video wasn't the new S7...
-
anyone know if there is a 14" model?
