I just got a samsung series 9 (NP900x3c-A03). The first couple of days, I literally could not hear a noise from the laptop. It ran completely silent. Even when I left the laptop on my bed or something while watching a movie, it would start both fans up but they were still not audible. For some reason, a few hours ago, the right fan started up, and it will not turn off at all! The computer can be idle forever and it keeps running. I have not even heard the left fan activate once during this time. The only thing that will turn it off is going into silent mode. What can possibly be the problem?? This is starting to become very frustrating. I tried restarting my computer, but the right fan kicks in almost instantly. I downloaded a monitoring program which will test the temperature of my laptop and it goes under 100 degrees Fahrenheit, but the fan still goes full blast. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also, I noticed after a few days of use that my ram on startup is around 85%. Is this normal?

Regarding the fan usage there are a few reports of the fan keeping running at relatively low temperatures but no clear fixes. Check if you have the newest BIOS. Then reinstall the Intel ME interface driver.

Regarding the high RAM usage, might you have a program called Intellimemory installed? If so, remove it. It's something that Samsung were offering although I no longer see it on the downloads list.

Only the right fan runs, the left fan rarely ever kicks in. The right fan isnt very audible when its on, but its always on and thats what was confusing me. The other thing is that the fan only runs when the laptop is plugged in. When it isnt, the fan stays off. I even went into the power management settings and adjusted the cooling management from active to passive, and it still was always on. I will run a BIOS update and see what happens.

As for the RAM usage, I am running Windows 8 if that makes a difference, and I do not see a program called intellimemory either.

edit: I do have itellimemory! what exactly does this do? Is it worth keeping? Also, I ran the bios update, and the fan is running constantly on the right still. I'll leave it as cool as can be to see if it turns off. Again, this is only when on adapter. Is it supposed to be constantly on with the adapter plugged in?

edit 2: I removed intellimemory, which freed up a lot of ram, but that was just a caching program I learned. Is this worth it to keep installed?
The fan finally turned off once I got the core cpu temp down to 93F/34C, but should it need to go that low to deactivate? It seems to turn on once it hits like 102F/40C, which seems too low.

Also, last issue, Samsung Recovery Solution 5 will not install on my comp. It is saying I need a samsung recovery partition to install, but how am I going to have one without the program on my pc?

    1. Regarding the fan, you will have to take up the problem with Samsung support.
    2. I would do without Intellimemory. No one has reported that it improves performance.
    3. The Recovery partition should exist unless you deleted it. Does it show up in Disk Management?

Is the fan coming on at such low temperatures an issue? Or is that normal? Its not very audible, pretty quiet, but its def always on on the right side. Is this not something that is usually experienced? I'm actually not fully aware of the ivy bridge processors temperature tolerance thresholds

The recovery partition is gone. I deleted it when I reformatted to win 8. I have an external hdd that I was going to back my computer up to using the utility, but apparently thats impossible without having the drive present on my pc.

Edit: I contacted samsung support. And the same person told me that it was normal for my right fan to only really activate and then that I need service in almost 2 back to back lines. And then tell me its positive that its normal. So now I'm just confused.

I just really want someone with the same model to just pay attention to the fans and report if they hear the same thing. I think I might just be overthinking this since I just got the pc, but I would really like the peace of mind. It just doesnt make sense to me that only one fan runs 90% of the time, but also activates at such a low temperature. It is barely audible, I just want to make sure both shouldnt be coming on or something and then turning off every so often, instead of just one being the work horse.

If the fan is running slowly and barely audible then maybe it's by design and most people don't comment about it because they can't hear it. We need feedback from the other X3C owners.

I found this video of a guy speaking in a Korean exactly, where he demonstrates the 2012 refresh of the Series 9 in silent mode. It's not the one with the ivy bridge processor. He does a close up of both fans on the adapter and only the right fan appears to be active. Then both are stopped in silent mode. So I guess this is by design. I seem to always find something to obsess about with a new pc.Guess I need to just relax.

Here's the video Samsung Series 9 2012 Fan Silent Mode On OFF - YouTube.

And I guess I'll have to just backup my data in a different way.
