I live in South Korea and yes that's what they call their line of laptops. The Sens. No meaning as far as I know. In hangul it's written 센스, (I dunno if you can read that), but directly translated into english it would spell "sense". Maybe that's what they wanted to write but these engrish people have a horrible habit of misspelling words. Maybe they just misspelled it =|.
-
-
Ok, thanks. But i think its an abbreviation. Something like Samsung Electronics Notebook Series.
Speaking of misspelling, it´s english not engrish....
It´s really hard to translate two different languages especially when also characters are completely different. I wouldn´t call it a "habit of english people". -

Maybe the Koreans have a problem with "r" and "l". I know the Japanese do. On one job I did, I had to get used to be called "Mr Latsey" by the Japanese work-mates.
As a native English speaker who is abysmal at other languages, I refrain from giving corrections provided I can understand what people are trying to say. I am grateful for all the non-native English speakers who kindly come here and converse in English. (I hope some of my big words don't leave you baffled).
We seem to find plenty to talk about in this thread while waiting for the X65 to arrive.
John -
I´m getting your point. Just wanted to show that misspellings could happen to anyone not to "english people" only.
-
Hahaha, Guys, I was just kidding. Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant was that Korean people who think they know english often end up butchering the language. These mistakes are often made by big companies. There's a website dedicated to this called www.engrish.com. That's where I got engrish, I didn't misspell english... I'm actually a native english currently residing in South Korea.... So yeah.. again, sorry for the misunderstanding, I was hoping more people would get my joke but I guess not..
-
Ah ! Sorry then ! Didn´t want to be rude
You english people, only think about beer and making fun out of everybody else. Shame on you and the Queen
Cheers mate !
One thing to ask, do happen to know when X65 came out for sale in South Korea ? -
Actually after reading my original post, it's pretty impossible to make out the joke. My fault for the horrible grammar/misplacement of key words to make the joke work.
-
It launched in May. If I'm reading it correctly... the exact would be May 9th. It launched alongside the R70 I believe. It was the first/second santa rosa based laptop that came out in Korea.
-
No harm done !
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
OK. Google has found this link to a UK X65.
That's all it says, but that's better than nothing. It would be useful to know the GPU and the display resolution. It is basically the same price points as the T7200 version of the X60 plus, so I hope the display hasn't been downgraded.
John -
Same retailer also got this one with T7500 and 200 GB HDD !!
http://www.dcsplc.co.uk/product/60676
£1,321.80 inc vat (1,961 €
model: NPX65A002/SUK
This one rocks !
Edit: I hope it´s with 1680*1050 display... -
Exactly what rocks there? Ok, now it´s 200 gigs...rest as expected. Or did I miss sth?
Oh,
right, if it´s not WSXGA+, it´s sooooooo dead for 1,3k pounds.
Oh and Samsung-guys...get your heads out of your axxes! People want to buy your stuff.
edit: T7500....considering it´s a 800 Mhz bus cpu. Is there any chance RAM will run at ddr2-800, too? <- John any idea, maybe...? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
My theory is that the 800MHz speed is almost irrelevant if I am correct in thinking that CL=5 @ 800MHz means CL=4 @ 667MHz. That is, we get most of the speed benefit because the 800MHz RAM has lower latency than the standard 667MHz RAM.
The only way to prove my theory will be to buy some of the 800MHz RAM. It is starting to appear, eg at Komplett, but is around 50% more expensive than the normal RAM.
John -
Hey. Calm down here. We´ve discussed this before. Top model X65 will be around 1900. No doubt about that any more. If you think this is overpriced get another machine.... I will spend my money on the X65.
X65A002 rocks because finally we see a T7500. -
And it does have WSXGA:
http://www.midwich.com/shopping/spec.php?id=X65A002 -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
And if that source is reliable, the T7300 version also as WSXGA. However, there is something not right about the price! I wonder what the "long life battery" means?
John
PS: If those specs are correct, the T7500 version has 200GB 4200rpm HDD and the T7300 version has 160GB 5400rpm HDD. -
I see, but this means we CAN at least run memory at speeds of 800 mhz actually, which kinda was my question. I was not sure about this, because the industry loves labelling stuff down (i.e. asynchronous bus/memory frequencies etc.). But this is good news then, cause it´s only a matter of time before there will be 800 mhz RAM with CL4 timings available.
Yay, I really don´t feel comfortable spending this much money for a laptop, but it´s reality. Nontheless I won´t stop myself from being cautious, critical and demanding. I can´t speak for you, but the simple fact of having a 2,2 ghz cpu in it, won´t make me say "yes, then it´s definitely worth the money". So please keep in mind that ppl have very different backgrounds when it comes to money.
-
Sure, that´s in my head
And of course ~2000 is a lot of money. But keep also in mind that i´ve been searching for a new notebook for more than half a year now and after checking on variuos manufacturers and innumerable notebook models the X65 really is MY personal favourite. It definetely rocks for me.
Cpu above or equal T7500, at least medium-class gpu, display with 1680*1050, HDD bigger than 120 GB, HDMI, firewire, bluetooth, option for a more powerful battery, optimized to run in Windows world, docking station connector, appealing design, superb technical support by manufacturer, solid built quality and weight under 2.7 kg. These were my requirements. And X65 has all of them.(HD DVD or blu-ray are not important to me) It´s this overall package that´s worth ~2000 for me.
Of course you can be critical. But i haven´t seen another manufacurer offering ALL of these requirements.
New MBP -> XP/Vista performance doubtfully as good as X65´s (i don´t want to use Mac OS), expensive warranty upgrade
Asus V1S -> bad technical support in Germany (model hasn´t come out yet)
Toshiba Tecra A9 -> only onboard graphics
And so on and on.... MY search has come to an end.
I´ve spent 2000 on my last notebook, it´s 5 years old now and still running smoothly. That´s 400 per year.... -
Samsung has good chances to sell the X65 if it comes soon. Maybe prices will drop once Asus lunches their Santa Rosa V1 or LG brings out a S1 replacement. Those should be in direct competition with the X65. Right now the only lapto that comes close to the X65 is the Macbook pro and ofcourse it is not made for Windows.
-
That´s exactly my point ! A MBP running Windows with 100% hardware compatibility would be a strong X65 competitor for me.
Btw wave, which notebook will you buy ? -
I am waiting it out till things come out and reviews are written. I am leaving work to go back to study in September. I got time to get a laptop till then.
A studentbook.de edition of the X65 (cheaper I hope) or maybe a Samsung P65, the smallest Macbook pro and the Asus F8 are my favorits right now. Ofcourse only the Macbook is available at the moment so it is hard to tell. I got 2 month left. -
Dunno, i d think that the LG R500 and HP 8510p come pretty close to the X65 too. The X65 is just a tad lighter, but hardware wise not much difference.
I d hope that the X65 with a WSXGA res sells for a decent price like some of you think it will. However from what i remember the higher end models (WSXGA res and such stuff) always sold for close to 2k or above
Just waiting for reviews to make up my mind
-
The HP 8510p really is a good machine but prices for HP in Germany (+Austria) tend to be higher than those of Samsung machines with similiar specs. And unfortunately HP doesn´t offer the magnificent self-configuration options of HP USA on their German Website. Launching is still "far" away, late August as i remember.
Two things about LG R500: personally i don´t like it´s design and built quality. Samsung´s notebooks seem to be of higher quality. And secondly till now only a version with T7300 has come out. -
X65 with T7500 on stock in UK on Monday, 9th of July:
X65A002/SUK
(particular site isn´t online anymore, that´s what Google cache still found...) -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
That site seems to be working again now, but the date has changed to Wednesday 11th July.
John -
Still not working from Germany.
Thanks for the info John. -
Anyone noticed the 4200 upm drive? Is this new, or may it be a mistake?
-
The R70 also has a 200gb 4200rpm drive so I think it is true.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I had noticed the 4200rpm 200GB. It's a strange choice for the top of the range, particularly since 250GB 5400rpm is available. It would make more sence to put the slow HDD into the smaller models, like the Q70, where they could argue that it extends the battery life.
John -
Exactly my point. Hopefully this is a typo, or another kind of mistake...
-
Does the Samsung X65 have SPDIF out?
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The X65 has an HDMI port which, I believe, provides both digital video and audio. It is not clear whether there is also an optical out built into the headphone port, which is the case with the X60 plus.
John -
X65 launching update for Germany:
Studentbook.de told me that they will provide information about X65 specs and availability before July, 13th. -
The korean version does not have SPDIF. I think they thought, why do we have to put SPDIF if we already have digital out from the HDMI port? That's reasonable, but I don't think they realize that most people don't have HDMI capable receivers. I own the R70 and I use my external sound card for SPDIF while the HDMI carries the video.
-
Right, and some (cheaper) HDMI AV Receivers like the Onkyo TX-SR505E can't 'split' the audio from the HDMI, they only do HDMI 'passthrough'.
Using an external USB Spdif soundcard adds another piece of ugly hardware to your living-room. Guess I'm going to get Acer 6592: NonGlare+SPDIF+DVI -
You didn´t really decide between the 6592 and X65 ?
They aren´t really comparable. Cons Acer: Cpu, Gpu, Ram, No WSXGA+ display, weight. The only advantages would be the price and SPDIF/DVI.... -
Studentbook does have a X65 listing !
Turbo Memory !
Price will be ~ 1850 .
Available ~ July, 26th.
http://www.studentbook.de/x65-t7500-begum.html -
Not bad! Non-glare display and 1Gb Turbo Memory. The non student price should be 1999€.
-
I´m really wondering about non-glare. This recently posted Korean review showed a X65 with a display that looked just like a glare one. Well anyway, i prefer non-glare
-
Studnetbook has had special version before that were non glare might be something like that again. However they used to advertise this fact and this time there is no info.
-
Ah, thanks for the info. Let´s see what happens after July 9th when official pricing will be revealed @Studentbook.de.
-
I would really like to exchange the T7500 cpu into a T7300 for a 8600M GT gpu...
-
? Why ?
A model with T7300 will follow but it´ll have 8600 GS or a 8400. -
All samsungs i have seen until now don't have a configuration with 8600M GTs, i would love to have those. I was nearly settling down for a R70 until i found out they are only with 8600M GS... guess i want the best of best.
-
It is kinda true. The X60plus had a x1700 which together with the go7700 was the top card for 14,1/15,4". Now the 8600M GS performce pretty well but there some 14,1" and many 15,4" laptops with more graphics power then the X65. Hopefully the X65 will atleast have good battery life in return.
-
I think battery life is the main reason for X65 not having the 8600 GT....
-
Notebook.de also has a X65 listing now:
http://www.notebook.de/samsung-x65-serie-g-659/
Available in 2 weeks.
No information about the price yet. -
The picture is an X60
-
They use the same chassis. Except that the X65 will have a HDMI output, i think.
-
Pictures at Studentbook.de and Notebook.de aren´t accurate. They both show X60´s. X65 will have a black keyboard. I´m sure that pics will be updated soon.
