Sure. If you have an old X60 that you won´t use it shouldn´t be too hard changing the keyboards.... ;)

    Seriously, i doubt it.

There's a good chance that the old X60 keyboard will fit.

I'll willingly do a swap with you. You can have my silver keyboard and I can have your nice black one. I think the black one looks much better (I hope the lettering is white (as on my Q35) and not the light grey (as on the Q70)). However, be forewarned that that my silver keyboard is starting to turn white where the paint is wearing off.

The hdd-situation is still confusing when comparing notebook.de´s and studentbook.de´s given specs for the x65...

I think the harddisk is 4200rpm for sure. I dont think there is any harddisk with 200gb and 5400rpm. There are 200gb 4200rpm disks from Fujitsu and there are 200gb 7200rpm disks. I could only find 5400rpm disks with less then 160 or 250GB.

I wouldn´t be to sure about the HDD. Could be 5400 rpm as well. Studentbook.de also tells 5400 in the specs: http://www.studentbook.de/dl/X65Pro-Begum.pdf
    We´ll see.

Pricing at Studentbook.de for the X65-T7500-Begum also has been updated: 1749 € !

Do you know of any 200Gb 5400RPM disk? Like I said I dont. But it might be a new Samsung disk that is not available on the open market. The 200GB 4200RPM disks are not all bad anyway. They perform similar to 120GB 5400rpm disks.

Maybe X65 also will have a new one with 5400

But they also have deals for people who work in the media:

Alternate.de now lists the x65 at 1799 Euro, which is either cheap referring to the usual alternate price level or studentbook.de (1750 Euro student price) and notebook.de (1999 Euro) are somewhat overpriced. Maybe it´s just a little early...

    http://www.alternate.de/html/product/details.html?articleId=215145

Btw: I phoned studentbook today and they told me it´s definitely a 5400 upm drive in the x65... Everything else would have been a joke anyway.

I just talked to the people at notebook.de shop again today. They confirmed that it is a 4200rpm disk in the X65. They showed me an email they got from samsung saying it is 4200rpm. They said it might change but is douptfull.

    Hi,

I am new in the forum but interested in X65 a lot.
I have bought now a Sony BX41VN. This is a great machine but only the glare display makes me a little bit nervous. I am thinking now to send it back and buy a new X65 - whitch has a non-glare display. But, exactly this is a big question for me. I have read a lot of tests about X60-Pro what should be the previous version of X65. The X60-Pro seems to have a quite bad (dark) display with the lightness of 113 cd/m2.

    http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Samsung-X60-Pro-Notebook.2662.0.html

The Sony has a perfect bright display of about 400 cd/m2... 4 more than the X60-pro. But, as I said: a glare display.

The problem is: I also have read that the x65 comes with the same display of X60-pro:
    http://notebookforum.at/t15234-p8-samsung-x65-pro.html

Is there anybody, who has an x65-pro with non-glare display? Is it really so dark?

LCD technology is continually evolving so I would expect this year's displays to be a brighter than last year's. The Q35, R20 and Q70 which I have looked at are all brighter than my X60plus (= German X60pro).

However, I am not sure if there technical reasons to cause higher resolution displays to be less bright. I wonder if the higher transistor density on a WSXGA+ display absorbs more light than on a WXGA display. The backlight power can be increased, but at the expense of battery life and there may be other issues, such as heat.

If you read carefully on Notebookforum.at you can actually see that displays of X60 and X65 arent´t the same:
    X60: LTN 154P1-L03-E
    X65: LTN 154P1-L03
(There really is a difference between the two)

As for now, there is only one Korean Test of X65 available on the net, you could find the link with an english translation some pages earlier in this thread. They also tested the display.

I will publish some testing results here when i get my X65 in late July.

    Many thanks.

I researched a little bit on the net. I think, this two displays are the same... The specifications I found are the same. Both has 185 cd/m2 - and we know the tests about it: in the reality it is only about 110 cd/m2 - really dark. And, to be honest, actually the 185 cd/m2 is not the best...
I asked samsung for it but I did not get any answer yet.

    greetings

    Hi guys,

I'm really looking forward to this new notebook ( http://geizhals.at/a265632.html) and I plan to buy it.
But I have several toubts and questions about this modell/buying notebooks new.

    1) I currently have a HP nx8220 (2Ghz, 1GB, 1650x1080) and i wonder if it is an ideal time now to buy the X65. Should I wait a little bit for new upcoming technologies in the recent future. (I'm an absolute power user and the nx8220 is 2 years old and seems a little slow now with Windows Vista and multitasking Adobe Applications). Are new technologies expected in the next 6 months. If so, I would perhaps wait a little bit.

    2) Are there comparable notebooks to the X65 which you can recommend?

    Thank you for your comments!!

Nothing major is coming in the next 6 month. In Q2 2008 (late spring or early summer till available) the next generation of Centrino will come and it has some nice improvements.

Also new technologies like the hybrid hard disk or solid state disk will improve and get cheaper. Of course new graphic cards are coming out every few month too. LED displays and even OLED.

    1. The next generation of Intel hardware is code-named Penryn. If you search around then you might get a clearer idea of when it may be released. However, you may need to add another 3 months to that date before the notebook you want is revised to include the new hardware.

The other development which should become more common over the next year will be the LED backlights for the displays which allows the displays to be thinner and either brighter or use less power.

However long you wait, there will always be something better on the horizon.

    2. Something similar to the X65 is the Asus V1 series. this is slightly heavier but has a bigger battery. At the moment it has not been refreshed to the Santa Rosa chipset.

Is there something in the T61 series which would meet your needs? However, in Europe we have a smaller selection of models and much higher prices than in North America.

Thanks guys. I thought about the T61-series but a machine with a configuration like the X65 would cost 2000+€ and that is too much for me.

I have to say the the X65 seems fairly cheap after comparing to other brands!

Why? What is the USP? A couple of months ago I was more-or-less sold on the X65, but it is taking so long to appear that I am looking at other options - including Macbook Pro.
Why go for the X65? Is it that good?

Where do you live ? UK ?
In Germany it will be available from next week on.
I hope to get my X65 on Friday/Saturday.

The question if it´s good or not has been discussed in this thread. Just have a look. It depends on your personal requirements if you should go for a X65.

Is there any options that goes with glossy screens? I have search most of the sites and all it says is nonGlare (matte?) screens. I want glossy!
Thread is too long, dunno if i could find anything bout this.

Yea.. about the MBP, it's good compared to the X65 (at studentbook.de and unimall.de). The MBP has a 8600M GT(i rechecked it, it seems like the 256mb 8600M GS is on par with the 128mb 8600M GT)and a GLOSSY LED screen while the X65 has the WSXGA screens tat some crave for it badly. But i need something between the 2 coz i want to run linux, and u know, installing linux on apple is really a pain. All up to you.

ipanema77, perhaps you could post a quick overview of the X65 here after unpacking. I'm from Austria and waiting for any opinions. If there are no major disadvantages (display, etc) I will buy it, hmmm but the Toshiba Tecra S5-01Q also looks very nice...One disadvantage of the X65 could be that there is no RAM-upgrade-possibility as all slots are already full. Don't you think that in 2 years more than 2 GB RAM could be usefull?

Not much of a use, the board of the x65 could onli support up to max 4gb of ram. Most other laptop nowaday has the same limit. So just take the 2x1gb stick out and put 2x2gb stick in. Sell the old ones on ebay.

Yeah - I'm in the UK. I have read this thread - and others - in its entirety. Like the idea of the X65, but the MBP is such a good bit of hardware and I have a slight chance of a healthy discount...the LED screen is a big draw...

Of course i´ll give some feedback about the X65 when i finally get it. I´m also planning to do a bigger review, but i can´t promise when. Notebook.de also sells a X65 with 3 GB of ram.
    http://www.notebook.de/samsung-x65-pro-t7500-begum-mit-intel-core-2-duo-22-ghz-3-gb-p-7673/

About the MBP: Don´t forget that Apple Germany sells it with 1 year of warranty only, if you want to extend it plan to spend some Euros extra. Don´t know about Apple UK´s warranty options.

I haven´t seen a X65 version on the net with a glossy screen and wouldn´t count on one in the future. Perhaps John Ratsey does have some informations.

Has anyone yet got serious information about the rpm of X65's harddisc? notebook.de shows 4200 while studentbook.de and other sources list it with 5400.

Edit: I just read "Die Geschwindigkeit der Festplatte ist noch nicht bekannt; sobald wir eine definitive Aussage dazu vorliegen haben, schreiben wir sie hier hin" on studentbook.de, translated this means that they do not know yet which drive it will be.

This has been up to discussion for a long time now. I personally still go with what John said: it´s very unlikely for a notebook of that class to bring some lower end 4200 upm drive instead of a 5400 upm one.

I'm 99.9% sure that the 160GB HDD would be 5400rpm. The uncertainty is about the 200GB version. However, I see that a Fujitsu 200GB 5400rpm is now being produced. Maybe Samsung will use this.

    Hi all!

I'm also looking forward to this upcoming beauty. The notebook has everything I need as far as I can see, but there's one thing I've been wondering about:

Is the headphone jack also an optical spdif out? The german website, manual and datasheet only mention the hdmi integrated electrical spdif but the quick guide says "Headphone Jack(S/PDF)"...

I wanted to ask Samsung Germany about this issue but the x65 is not listed on their e-mail contact form at the moment.

    regards

I had a nice talk with one of the guys of studentbook.de and here are the news:

    - Yes, the 4200 upm hdd seems to be the final word. Very poor choice, Samsung!
    - Availability of the X65 in Germany is delayed again. Will be available "early August"...........................

    I also got these informations.
Now i´ll have to a bit more patient...

I´m not to disappointed about the 4200 rpm.
Tests say that 200 GB SATA with 4200 rpm aren´t too bad.
But of course 5400 would have been nice !

Studentook.de told me that the X65 won´t be shipped before 20th of August !
And their version won´t have Vista Business but XP Pro !

When will i finally get this machine....
    It´s turning into a nightmare !
