Yeah, i´ve seen that one, too.
Just the mediocre technical support by Asus worries me.

I´ll have to consider my options now.
At first i´ve asked Notebook.de about their infos about X65 shipping and OS.

The delay in the X65's arrival is puzzling and annoying.

I have to wonder whether there is a shortage of certain components, but I'm not sure which ones. The Nvidia GPUs must be in demand since ATI has been slow to get its alternative onto the shelves. Several of manufacturers seem to be having delays. Dell comes to mind.

Samsung originally posted the drivers and software for the X65 some time ago but I see that there is a recent new set on the global download site, so it is possible that they had some problems which delayed release.

Well it is annoying, indeed. And more. Neither can I support the idea a 4200 upm drive belongs to the concept of a business oriented 2000 Euro (Samsung homepage) notebook by any means, nor can I call myself satisfied with what Samsung calls release politics. Gentlemen, this kind of strange public relations (not informing even resellers) is what Sony is known for actually not Samsung. I reached the point where the 2,4 MBP gets more and more interesting if there weren´t these two things: lower display resolution and 2x USB 2.0 which I consider to be major flaws. But having in mind that 4200 upm thing I am not so sure anymore....

Personally, I wouldn't make a big issue over the HDD speed. 200GB has a high enough data density to give a respectable data transfer rate.

But, if the X65 comes in the two versions like the X60, I would get the one with the slower CPU and then upgrade the RAM and GPU. The top model of the X60 cost a lot more money for a slightly better spec.

I would prefer they come in either glossy or matte screen... not just matte. I saw you review, u seemed to have the glossy version but i can't find it anywhere.

My Zepto 6024W came with a matte screen but it is very bright (brighter than my X60 plus) and looks fine. Actually, Zepto call it a hybrid display because it gives the good colours of glossy displays without the reflections. Samsung might be doing the same with their matte displays.

John, it´s not so much the throughput I´m complaining about, but the seek times which when you turn the platter by hand (yes, sarcasm...) may be even faster than the ones a 4200 upm drive offers. 4200 upm drives are subnotebook drives and a strict no-go in business solutions. Period.

Upgrade the GPU? You surely meant HDD, right? Well this is an option - I would do so, too. But nothing´s heard about a second version by now...

I am also not sure whether the x65 will be glossy or matte! The cheaper version in the UK seems to have the 160Gb HD, which should be 5400 rpm....

The X65 is delayed more. New info I got is "not before the 20th of August". This is for Germany.

studentbook.de also says that it will come with XP professional and not Vista Business???

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2220910&postcount=250 ;)

Notebook.de has similiar shipping dates. They told me that they will get the X65 directly by Samsung, meaning that they´ll be the among the first retailers to have it in stock.

I´m also wondering about the XP Pro info. It shouldn´t be too difficult to offer both OS. And all other German retailers state Vista Business as OS.

Just got an email from Notebook.de:
Their X65 definitely will have Vista Business pre-installed.
But you´ll have the option/possibility to downgrade to XP Pro.

This delay is getting silly.... I would be tempted with a cheap X60-plus if I could find one....!

Wonder if the Asus V1S will be any good....

Well, it´s simple. Adequate competitors of the X65 aren´t in stock right now as well. The V1S still has no shipping date confirmed at least in Germany. The HP 8510p is expected to come out in September. The Toshiba Tecra S5 will also be available in two weeks only. For me this means waiting for the X65 !

And a X60 with similiar specs and "old" C2D wouldn´t be cheaper anyway...

The Asus V1s will be similar quality. It is a bit heavier but more graphic power with the 8600m GT. The V1s is not yet available either so not really an option if you cant wait.

The R20 thread still tops the table in the Samsung forum but the discussion about the X65 must hold the record in this forum for a product which has yet to arrive.

However, the X65 thread is nothing compared to the M1330 order status discussion (including a few of my own posts until I got bored and cancelled!).

We still haven't figured out what has delayed the X65.

Ok, Gentlemen...it´s about time, only around 2 weeks to go. So I´m taking your bets on the topic "Is the x65 available on 20th of this month in Germany" as promised or will there be a delay again. (@mod/admin: yes, this is to be understood as a request for a poll)

Me strongly votes: "No x65 on 20th of August, cause Samsung still has some tricky moves in mind for confusing retailers, customers, press etc."

I´m looking forward to hear some real nice ideas. -_-

I think it will come on the 20th, atleast in places like notebooks.de who are known to get rare notebooks early. But I dont think supply will be very good and it will sell out pretty quick and then when the next batch comes... who knows.

I´m also almost sure that ít´ll come out on the 20th. And as wave i think that supply won´t be too good. That´s why i´m placing a pre-order :)

@XGeistX There is no need to blame Samsung for the delay as nobody here knows the real cause. And a poll won´t shorten waiting time at all....

Exactly what makes you think it´s better not to blame Samsung? When a major (better gigantic) company like Samsung doesn´t get things done in the correct order then I so do blame them. After all it´s their job and we are their potential customers and - yes - we do wait, which doesn´t comfort me.

I apologize. This was meant to be a funny aproach to this mess, but wir Deutschen verstehen einfach kein Spass. :)

Mate, I do not bash. All I do is I try to say "Samsung, that´s not the way to do business. There are people who want to buy Samsung products, but you a) don´t let them, b) don´t tell them why." For me it´s not only the product itself that counts, it´s the company, the companies´ philosophy, their service and so on. (and you got mail, too...)

There you go. Formulated like this it is real critique that counts.

Your post earlier was just unspecific bashing -> "tricky moves by Samsung"
Even if it was supposed to sound funny.

But nevertheless i don´t think that Samsung does this on purpose. And they don´t have to tell what keeps the X65 from beeing released. Just let the consumer decide. If you don´t want the X65 it´s your decision. I´ll wait.

Now let´s hope it finally gets released. This thread needs some real food....

That T7300er version is actually quite attractive ...

The difference between T7300 and T7500 isnt that big.
On the upside it has a 5400rpm HDD, and is ~200€ cheaper.
I think everything else is the same ... isnt it?

I would go for the cheaper one. The previous X60 series had two versions with slightly different specs but a big difference in price. Marketing and psychology: Knowing there's a proportion of people who want the best model and not looking at the price/value aspects. Indeed, if you charge them more for the same model except for a "go faster" stripe on the side then they will think its is better.

I would agree - I can't see the point in paying the extra for a slower hard drive, with a miniscule enhancement in processor speed. It's the 7300 for me or nothing...

We know from experience that the detailed specs of new Samsung models can only be finalised after someone has opened one up. However, I think Samsung UK see the X65 as primarily a business machine with more style than a Latitude or a Thinkpad. Hence it looks like it is coming with XP Pro and this could also be the reason of a matte screen.

However, my new Zepto has a matte screen and, while the anti-glare coating makes it less sharp than a glossy screen, this is compensated by very good brightness. I wouldn't make having a matte display a reason to reject a notebook which ticks all the other boxes.
