The exact same model number should have the same hardware specs. did you confirm the lack of a backlit keyboard by testing the hardware?

Typing on an NP700Z5A-03CA right now, apparently no illuminated keyboard, despite the fact that NCIX confirmed there was one.

Have you slightly lifted up one of the keys to make sure there's no LED present?
There have been cases of backlit DOA on the spot.

Why doesn't Samsung have a direct buy config to order ability like everyone else?

Maybe it will come when they feel that they have exhausted growth by shipping standard models. The different country marketing units configure their own models (presumably based on what they think will sell, but aiming for particular price points must be a factor) but they are ordering by the container load. Also, I think Samsung use their own assembly plants (in China) so they would have the extra hassle of handling individual CTO units instead of passing the problem to the sub-contractor (eg my Lenovo T420s was shipped direct to me from Wistron).

Does anyone know what's happened to the NP700Z5A in the uk? 2 weeks ago loads of places had them, now they seem to have disappeared off the face of the internet. Does anyone know if this is just stock issues?

At this moment Amazon.co.uk has 10 of the NP700Z5A.

My suspicion is that Samsung UK has no more stock and isn't sure when the next batch is arriving. I don't think the model is being killed off. It's just a supply glitch.

That's what I was hoping, thanks! On a related note, the Samsung UK website used to list the model as 700Z5A, now it's listed as 700Z5AH. The specs look the same to me - does anyone know if there are differences?

So has Saumsung completely given up on restocking the current line of Chronos? 700Z5A-S03 has not been available this whole month

Is there an upcoming release of a new Series i7 15" line I should know about?

I had emailed John Lewis (UK) earlier this week and they had replied that they will be getting a 'newer' version of the laptop mid-feburary. I asked them what the changes would be and they said they can't say anything until closer to release.

Just bought my NP700Z3A-S03US from Portable One. One of the few places for US orders that I've found that is rated highly by reseller ratings, and will allow a full refund if I don't like the machine. I had to talk to them because of a credit card issue (not their fault, and resolved) and I got through to a v. nice human being very quickly. We'll see how it goes!

This is the first time I'm ordering through a reseller, and I wish I didn't have to, but this is the laptop I want, so there you go. Hopefully it goes ok!

What made you get this model? I was looking at this model and it seemed to be the best one for my needs. I still haven't bought it yet though.

As far as I can tell, the 03US is the one that has the better graphics card and the 7500 rpm 750 gb hd.

The touchpad is driving me absolutely crazy tho.

I'm planning to replace the hard drive with a SSD, so the hard drive isn't a factor.
I wish Samsung had a customize option on there website so buyers can just get a cheaper hard drive when they don't need all that storage.

Samsung Computer doesn't really have a presence in the United States. They just have a token "brochure" website and they just ship computers from their factories in Asia to retailers in the US. They really should set up shop like Dell and improve availability and customization, but they can barely meet demand now so they probably don't currently have the resources to focus on this

    -sigh-

    It's pretty difficult to get a hold on this laptop. I may or may not turn to a different one if I can't find a place to purchase it ;_;

That's because everyone who bought them for $699 on woot is flipping them for a quick $100 profit
