Hmm.
I just received a graphics driver update via Easy Software Manager
It says the version is 8.930.0.00, release date March 15, 2012.
Is this something different, perhaps only for the 14 inch model, or should I go ahead and install the 8.940 from the US site?
-
-
The dates listed by Samsung can not be trusted. The dates might refer to the date that Samsung learned about a driver, not the actual driver release date.
-
The version number is also different. Currently, I have 8.863 installed. The one that shows up in my Easy software manager is 8.930, which I haven't heard about before, however everyone is talking about the 8.940.
I wonder if they got the version no. wrong so it is actually the same driver update. Or maybe they are different, though I can't see why they'd release an older update when they have a newer one available (the 8.940)
Also, when it comes to updating graphics drivers, does it matter that the graphics cards in the 700Z3 and 700Z5 are different?
EDIT: Nevermind. Went back several pages and found my answer. -
The funny thing: When i look at the Samsung-Austria page there is not even a 940 version listed ;-)
Support für NP700Z5AH
It was a few days ago...no all 940 are gone! That a mess...shame on Samsung. -
Samsung is really a big mess. Then again Samsung were that big in notebooks. To them it's all about phones. Hopefully they can pull themselves together soon.
-
I don't think they're a mess, I think like you say their top talent and focus is on the phones & tablets division. They may be slow but they have always made things right in the end
-
My software manager lists 930. My driver page on their website lists 863. For touchpad, the website lists 10.7.9.1 but software manager shows 10.7.11.5. They are messy - no question.
-
I have received the same notification today(both for the trackpad and graphics)
I had already installed the 8.940 driver version from the website of the 700Z5B version last week. However, this download is 715MB which is much bigger than the 8.940 from the website.
I guess that there is no reason to update to a previous driver version, right? -
has anyone tested the new trackpad driver? is there any major change?
-
Well if everything is working perfectly for you. No reason to change the update.
-
anyone?

Question is: Does it work on the 700Z5A? The CCC can be different for computers with switchable graphics, like the Series 7.
Also, is it confirmed that the 930 driver is not newer or better than the 940 driver? I'm going to at least try out the 930 driver. -
i just recive this update by drive genius
mine is NP700Z5B-S01UB -
I've received the same notification via "software launcher" however las time I did the update via that route, the CCC "disappeared" and wasn't able to assign any program for any power levels. I had to revert and download and install again, a real lengthy process due to the slow connection from Samsung. So who wants to be the guinea pig?
-
pls god, make it stop !!!!
-
So now we have 8930, 8940, 8950???? Samsung...
-
Easy Software Manager prompted me to update to the 8.930 driver last night (I have 8.940 installed). This morning, ESM prompted me to update itself, and after that the 8.930 update was no longer available.
The touchpad driver update is still there though. I'll try that this weekend. -
Aha! So the 8.930 driver is fake, no? That means that the 8.940 driver is still the best option we have and the 8.950 driver is still a bit unclear, right?
-
The 8.930 is not fake. If you look at all the Series 7 support pages, they listed all the AMD driver as 8.930. However, I've never saw 8.950 yet. Until I saw someone said about 8.940, I searched Google and found out some interesting thing. Apparently, there was 8.940. 2 result from Google confirmed that. However, when I went to the actually page, it was gone. So my thought is that Samsung just recently taken it down.
P/s: Also, why Easy Software Manager shows some update that I could not even find them online. My guess is that it took the info from the internal server, so that we could not see it from the support pages. -
8.930 is real, sadly - cos it doesnt let u use the switchable graphics for GPU \ OpenGL Apps ! ! !
Luckly the 8.940 does (and finally i've got it working in my laptop (after a Complete Windows Recovery, and reinstall of the drivers,,
Everything working smothly - Like so, i'm not going to be the guinea pig for the 8.950.
Cheers
rsh -
Where did you find the 8.940? I could not find it anywhere at all. My Easy Software Manager did not list that too. It would be nice if anyone could upload that one into some host.
P/s: NVM, I just found it from a couple pages before this. For anyone did not have a chance to get the link, here it is:
Don't bother to go Samsung website because last time I checked, all the support pages listed 8.930.Code:http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=4447522&CDCttType=DR&ModelType=null&ModelName=null&VPath=DR/201202/20120228191136307/VGA_AMD_8.940.0.0000.ZIP

The graphics drivers listed on Samsung's website are dated the same as with the 8.863 but now are named 8.930......I do not no if they are the same drivers!
For the touchpad, I had downloaded last week from their website (since it was not listed in the software manager) 10.7.11.5. The installation was a bit weird as it just installed/extracted in my downloads directory(!). The other drivers were still there but not the 'default'...
It also messed up with my settings and I could not modify some of the settings
eg. disabling the one finger tabbing which is a must if you want to avoid accidental drag and dropping while you use the mouse.
So after trying to reinstalling and nothing improved, I rolled back to 10.0.7.3.
It seems that samsung released yesterday a newer version of the drivers the 10.7.12.6 (previous were 10.7.11.5) but I haven't tried that yet. I am a bit reluctant to do so..... -
This morning I got Samsung Update Program update and now it shows 8.940 is the latest.
-
Did you first uninstall everything AMD/ATI related (AMD CCC, driver, SDK, etc.) before installing the 8.940 package?
When I run the 8.940 installer it offers the (new) installation folder path that is different from the folder that my current factory installation package (8.863) is installed to. -
First thing you must take note, Samsung driver dates cannot be trusted... hence just use the version number as a guideline.
-
Well that is weird. Because most of the time, the installer won't change the directory instead you set it differently. If you system is x64, the default should be on /Program Files/AMD ..... Normally I just install as an upgrade to the previous, but most of time, you better uninstall the last one first and do a completely new installation because sometimes the previous driver contains some leftover files that don't carry over a new one for some reasons, so it might get conflict after all. If you do not want to do that, you could choose the folder you installed the previous and it will be replaced with the new one.
-
Suddenly my laptop turns the wi-fi conection off every time i reboot ! ! ! Any ideas?
rsh -
Yes, it is weird.
When I start 8.940 setup.exe it launches AMD Catalyst Install Manager (CIM) that prompts for default installation path set to "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies" which does not exist on my system.
My current ATI driver (8.863) uses "C:\Program Files\ATI\CIM" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies" -
Reset your BIOS settings.
-
I have been using the 8.940 video driver for some time, and today I have from Easy Software a message to install the newer 8.930 version...
Is it really newer?? -
Don't update it if the number is not greater than the last one. Especially with other software, just keep what you think the best in term of usability. Newest does not means better and does not imply is is newest. I prefer download over the support page or OEM pages, but since the support does not update recently, I just have to rely on the software manager.
-
Ok I will keep the 8.940 then!
-
so i couldnt find an answer to this, but after reboot, and 5-6 secs later, my wifi turns off. i have windows on a OCZ agiulity3 SSD and 750gb drive as data. Microsoft store s02us model. Help here pls?
-
Remove the driver and download the newest driver. It is the driver that cause this problem. However, if you still have this issue with the new driver, try some old drivers because it is more likely you would find one that stable enough.
-
Our persistence did pay off. However, note the bold part.
I just found this from Samsung:
Samsung SERIES 7 CHRONOS drivers update | Facebook
-
Has anyone managed to change the voltage of the GPU??
Maybe with driver that yknyong just mentioned?? -
It says on that page (atleast for me) that the driver version is 8.930.0.0000 and is released 2012.02.17....
Just wondering if it isnt updated yet, or if there is some "hidden" switch we are missing somewhere?
Have anyone tried them yet?
Btw, I saw 3 different under my model, MS Store, Costco and "nothing". I thought all those had the same GPU, just other features that was different?
EDIT:
After re-reading the message, I am sure that it's the same as the one that we are all using, and that "manually run in high performance when using OpenGL" is just that it's fixed under CCC in the normal place where we select "high performance" etc, not that there is some way to force AMD to be selected at all times. -
damit !! it`s really works !!
-
The funny thing is that some people have complained that M$ FSX does not work properly?
So far Samsung has... | Facebook -
maybe they had not taken the correct version...
In the options system shows that the drive is 05/12/2011, but it works! -
Man, I need some help
I did the sequence (samsung, model name, driver, etc) . I run the setup and my windows still using INTEL HD
What am I Suposed to do? The switchable graphics is not possible , i can only select manually the BEST PERFORMANCE? Is it correct? How can I make all the applications run the AMD not the INTEL ? -
First i uninstalled the old driver by the CCC, rebooted and installed the new one. Rebooted again and put a. Mkv (1080p) to play in mpc-hc.
on time came a popup asking me to assign a configuration for the application.
after closing the mpc-hc and open the option of switchable graphics, was saved with the option -
What works and how?
OpenGL via CCC has worked for some time now with the drivers in this thread, but does these drivers offer anything new? -
Selecting "Best Performance" is the same as selecting the AMD card, assuming you are using the 8.940 driver. While not all programs/games will detect the AMD card in the config settings, they appear to use it when run (based on performance).
-
I just had an idea. Leshcat seems to be well versed AMDs drivers. Maybe he could look into the 8.940 drivers and see what Samsung changed compared to the standard drivers so that these changes may be transferred to future driver releases from AMD.
-
I'm using the 8.930 driver... I Run 3dmark, but it uses the INTEL yet... I change to HIGH PERFORMANCE on Catalyst, but stills INTEL that 3dMArk uses... Coul it be the 8930 not the 8940? Where I can find the 8940?
-
Here is the 8.940:
Code:http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=4447522&CDCttType=DR&ModelType=null&ModelName=null&VPath=DR/201202/20120228191136307/VGA_AMD_8.940.0.0000.ZIP
-
Everyone update to 8940 via link above.
Don't update backwards. -
There is a 8950 driver. Can someone just install and tell me if it's later than the 8940 so I can update OP?
-
Could please post the link to download it? I could not find it anywhere online right now.
P/s: Found the unofficial from Guru3d.com, and I have just finished installing the driver. There is nothing much about it. Photoshop recognize the AMD card. There is only one thing that change is the driver. The name of the card from 8.940 is AMD R 6750M, but for this driver, it just said generally that R6x and 7x series.
