Hi watchkatt, I have a Samsung Ativ Book 7 NP730U3E-K01MY, which originally had a 4 GB RAM module. I took out the original RAM and installed a pair of Corsair Vengeance CMSX8GX3M1A1600C10 (there are 2 slots of RAM inside my Samsung), so I have a total of 16 GB of RAM now. The Corsair Vengeance works OK in my Samsung.

What about S06?
Samsung ATIV Book 7 730U3E S06 - ÜBERSICHT | SAMSUNG
-
I think what CraizyEight meant was, no Samsung Series 7 Ultra (or ATIV Book 7) in black will be available in Germany, although the S06DE variant is available in black according to Samsung Germany website.
Anyone here from Malaysia? Samsung Malaysia website also lists a black ATIV Book 7, is it available in stores in KL? -
This is the 07 in Germany:

John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It looks more like black than silver in the photos (which might be the cause for confusion) but the colour is "Metall".
John -
Yes, sorry. That's what i meant. No Ativ Book 7 in black available in Germany, although they got a black version on their Website, but they said the pictures were meant for the international market. So only the silver one in Germany. I waited myself to have one in black but after Samsung confirmed there will be no black one in Germany (+ probably no Haswell as well for the Ativ Book 7 non-touch) made me order the S07 now in silver.
-
So far, I've only seen a black version in Hungary and Russia, it's so stange, it looks so much better in black in my opinion.
-
A matter of taste. I own a black one (it was $100 cheaper for unknown reasons), but would prefer a silver one.
And it's not really black. Under the direct bright light it's obviously midnight blue. -
Where did you purchase it ?
-
He already mentioned where he purchased it:
I think this is the website. -
Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately my model has only one slot avalaible, the other RAM module is MB welded, so Values one will be ok .
I noted, with CPU-ID, that althought different ( 2GB the welded, 4GB the module), it seems that they are on double channel, is n't odd?
I wish when i will play some game the GPU switch will works, now it seems that's detected the Intel 4000 only.
( anyone knows how i can switch off the keyboards illumination ?)
TIA
-
would you mind sharing some of its specs: 1. display type (is it IPS as in german models - Chimei Innolux CMN1343, or is it MVA as I've read somewhere on russian forums); 2. SSD manufacturer; 3. RAM slots number. thanks!
-
1. The display is CMN1343.
2. SSD was Samsung 841 MZMTD128HAFV-000KN, I replaced it with Plextor 256.
3. 2 GB welded, 2GB replaceable, AFAIK. Didn't remove RAM module(s) myself.
All in all it's a product of recent Samsung's 'simplification' strategy when they cut the number of laptop configurations down to very few.
Here in Russia Samsung offers ATIV Book 7 in two non-touch versions - silver and black/blue with Intel graphics and 4/128GB. Quite far from the initially advertised concept, isn't it?
I suspect the same lineup applies to the rest of markets where the laptop was introduced in May/June. -
I thought regardless of a country any mods with intel hd graphics would have 2 ram slots similarly to US version of 740u3e.

Hi Guys,
Regarding to little refreshment in series 7 called ativ book 7, it seems there are still only models with i5-3337U without dGPU. I'm not so familiar with all these processors, GPUs and so on. Which one will be better for me if I 'd like to virtualize 1-3 machines (rather simple linux machines) on it ? I think I don't need graphic at all, I'll not play games, render graphic etc. Is it better to buy i7 with dGPU or i5 without ? I'd like to have a chance to extend memory up to 16Gb in future what is possible only in model with i5. Will the power consumption and temperatures be much different in these two models ? -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
I would vote for the model without the dGPU and with the two RAM slots. It should be slightly more power efficient without the dGPU lurking in the background.
John -
I am from Malaysia but located in Penang. The shop I visited yesterday only has the silver for NP730. Retail price is RM2999.
-
As usual not even Samsung knows about this, I just found a black version in Germany:
Samsung ATIV Book 7 730U3E X05 Ultrabook
-
Can somebody confirm that the 'mineral ash black' ativbook 7 has got a backlight keyboard like the silver ativbook 7?
-
what in the world is going on with this Series 7 Ultra model? there's no news about it anymore.
has it already been discontinued?
will it be updated with Haswell? -
Yes it has.
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
It is now the Ativ Book 7. I don't believe that Samsung will be discontinuing it having just introduced it.
There are no clear clues about the timing of widespread introduction of Haswell notebooks by Samsung. Given that new model numbers have not yet appeared in Samsung's driver database they won't be on the shelves this month.
John -
it's had such a limited production run and it's only retailer has been Best Buy here in the states. and they don't even sell it directly anymore.
i've been waiting forever to hear any more news about this ATIV 7: whether it'll come in the rumored all-black color and with a haswell update.
it seems like the best value model from Samsung and the perfect alternative if you don't want to jump up to the 9+ -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Can anyone figure out what the NP750Z5E-U01US and NP760Z5E-U01US are? They are in the SW Update database but without any drivers.
John -
Hi Series 7 experts, I have one question... In my ATIV Book 7, I set the monitor's display color to "Sharp" (from Settings - Display - Display Color - Sharp) because I like the color settings. Now I have another laptop, i.e. a Clevo W230ST, with the same display panel (CMN N133HSE-EA1), which I want to set the color like my ATIV Book 7. Could somebody please direct me to copy the "Sharp" setting from ATIV Book 7 to the Clevo?
-
neither are ATIV Book 7 related apparently. both are 15.6" machines with ivy bridge:
Amazon.com: Samsung Series 7 NP750Z5E-U01US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories
FRYS.com|Samsung -
Good finds there, droyder.
- Amazon calls it a Series 7; the pictures on Frys are exactly like the NP780Z5E pics on samsung.com, and the weight and dimensions also match. So indeed, this appears to be descendants of the 2013 Series 7 models -- NOT related to the Ativ Book 7 (as droyder said).
- The NP750Z5E on Amazon is spec'ed as 1366x768, while the NP760Z5E is spec'ed as 1920x1080 -- so that may be the main difference between them.
- But how the NP760Z5E differs from the NP780Z5E (which is also 1920x1080) is so far a mystery to me. All three have AMD 8770M. Maybe just a poorer quality FHD display on the NP760Z5E. -
Guys,
I've read a lot about poor performance of 8570M (or rather 8550M) GPU in this Samsung, however all tests were made in April/May. Does the new (beta?) drivers boost this GPU a little? I am thinking about buying 730U3E for i.a. some casual gaming (rather older games) but don't know if this Radeon is worth anything. Considering buying new Sony Vaio Pro as well (the only drawback is that all components seem to be irreplaceable - both SSD and RAM are soldered to motherboard).
Thanks! -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
The photographs I have seen show the SSD is mSATA so it is swappable. The RAM configuration depends on whether the model has a discrete GPU (= some soldered RAM + 1 RAM slot) or integrated graphics (= 2 RAM slots). However, if you ask Samsung they will say that neither component can be upgraded because the base of the computer has to be removed. However, proceed carefully, cause no damage and Samsung will be none the wiser.
John -
@John Ratsey,
That part was about Sony Vaio Pro
-
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Thanks for the correction: I must start to read more carefully!
John -
Have you managed to get any official note why 730 has 8550 instead of 8750? And have you finally somehow managed to increase Radeon's performance?
-
Do you guys recommend some kind of screen protector like a high quality matte/ anti glare? This is my first touch screen laptop, not sure if its needed in this case. Worried about long term durability with constant touch usage. Thanks for any advice!
Sorry one more question, and I apologize if it's already been answered - I have this second partition that kind of popped up out of nowhere (see attached image) - it says 14gb/30gb free, but when I open it, there are no files on the hdd (no hidden or system files either). What is this? Can I do a recovery to factory settings and delete both C and D and merge them into one new partition? Thanks!
http://imgur.com/2A5A2Wh -
I have had mine for a week now. I upgraded to a crucial m4 256gb and have the 13.6 betas on and have beeen really impressed by the gaming performance. So far I have played:
Wargame Airland Battle @ 1080p low/medium settings at 30-45fps
DOW2 retribution at 1080p low medium settings at 25-40fps
COD black ops again at 1080p over 30fps
going to put SC2 and shogun2 on later to test.
Also it overclocks pretty well with MSI afterburner, I have been running 800/1050 without much effect on temps but the fans increase a little in speed (still quiet compared to a gaming laptop) -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
Did you use Samsung Recovery Solution to make a backup? The backup is of C: only and it won't be put on C (but to only need 16GB there would need to be a lot of very compressible files). I wouldn't delete D: until there's another backup done to an external device (a 32GB flash drive will do).
John -
Thanks, it's now working with MSI!
However, the laptop is quite hot in my opinion.
I tried 700/900, it is the max I can get in MSI. -
The first time I booted my NP700Z3A, I was given the opportunity to create a separate Data partition, instead of one big Windows partition. I'd say it sounds like you just have a Data partition that just was never used, and hence has no files on it. Windows saves all user files on the Windows partition unless you deliberately save them somewhere else.
IF that is the case (that this is merely an unused Data partition) you can delete it and expand the Windows partition into the empty space (Windows Disk Management or DISKPART).
But if you performed some backup/restore that could have caused that extra drive (as John mentioned) then you'll have to be careful, something else may be going on.
If you boot Recovery F4, you may have an option to re-partition and restore to factory. That option will wipe EVERYTHING on your disk (except your Recovery, of course). -
Does this MSI Afterburner allow to create profiles e.g. auto overclocked when entered 3D mode? I had a lot of Radeon cards in my PC, last one is quite old, but I've always used Ati Tray Tools, however I suppose that it might not support Radeon 8000 Series (last version of ATT is dated 2011). -
There is no need as the gfx card turns off when not being used. You can save 5 different clocks profiles if you want though
-
Does anyone have some pictures of the Samsung Series 7 ultra/Ativ Book 7 in the mineral ash black version? I couldn't find any on the internet, nor could I find a comprehensive review of this black version on Youtube.
-
Thanks! I did create a backup, didn't realize this was it. Also was kind of weird since there's no files that I can see in the drive. I'm going to do a complete system backup with acronis true image then go to recovery and delete the D: partition and see if I can merge it with the existing C:
On another note - since this is my first touch screen laptop, does anyone use anti-glare/matte screen protectors for these? -
OK more games testing and an odd finging.
Firstly a certain number of games see the intel card as being the display adapter even though thy are using the 8570m. Now this causes a small issue in that the intel gfx wil only maintain display saling whereas the 8570m will allow you to lower resolution but stretch to fit. This means a certain number of games when using non native (1080p) res will have borders around the game with the game (ie if you run a game at 720p res it will run in a box in the middle of the screen). This presents an issue where a game is not playable at 1080p. One example is company of heroes 2, it struggles at 1080p but if I lower the res to 720p I get good fps but the game is too small to be playable.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
I have now tested at stock gfx clocks:
Shogun 2 at 1080p dx11 low settngs - 49fps from the built in benchmark
COH2 -still battling with this game, not really playable at 1080p but plays fine at 720p
Star craft 2 is now installed but battlenet was down
-
I get mine yesterday, now waiting for Plextor M5M 256GB and once I swap SSD's, I'm going to run some tests too.
-
cool let me know how you get on. the crucial m4 install was easy just make sure you have a 32gb usb stick unless you are doing a clean win 8 install
-
I'll probably use mSATA - SATA adapter in SATA USB case to clone entire SSD (Hiren's boot from USB stick). Then I'll put the "old" 128GB SSD in adapter to my PC
so win-win
-
cool, let us know how that goes. I tried using samsungs software to clone from msata to usb msata and it failed which is why I ended up ordering a 32gb usb stick
