Samsung haven't yet showed any interest in providing end user built-to-order configurations. You just have to hope that your country marketing people order a version that meets your requirements.

    I'm really worried about this...

The stores here in Sweden have these two configs:
    Samsung 7-Series NP740U3E
    Touch
    i5
    6GB RAM
    128GB SSD
    HD Graphics 4000

    Samsung 7-Series NP730U3E
    No touch
    i7
    6GB RAM
    128GB SSD
    Radeon HD 8570M

I emailed one of the stores and asked them if there were any other configurations and the answer I got was that those two will be the ones that target the larger group so no, they wouldnt take in any other configs.
He however stated that it was possible to get whatever config you would like directly from Samsung. Is he talking out of his * or can you order one with custom config directly from Samsung? There site only directs you to nearby stores, not like Dell where you can acutally buy it at there site.

He's probably confused by the fact that Samsung Sweden could order other configurations from the factory. However, I don't know what the minimum order requirement is but I'm sure it is a lot more than one.

And here they are compared as a table. The touch version is significantly more expensive and significantly heavier. I'm surprised to see 40W PSUs in spite of AMD graphics.

Samsung Germany have always (at least in the past 6 years) offered their customers more choice than most other countries. Until the recent change to the island-style keyboards notebook.de would sell to other European countries and change the keyboard for a reasonable price.

In Switzerland there is currently one configuration for the non-touch model but it's quite a cool one!

    Samsung Notebook NP730U3E I7-3517UM 13.3"LED HD,6GB RAM,256GB SSD AMD Radeon HD8570M, Win8Pro (NP730U3E-S01CH) CHF 1'557.20

The price is not bad either keeping in mind that there is often 10% discount for Samsung lappies over here. Looking forward to availability.

No news concerning the non touch model, but to be honest I was looking forward to the non touch version.

Changing the old keyboards took about 5 minutes and involving removing (typically) 3 screws from the bottom of the computer. Changing the keyboards of the new design requires total disassembly of everything except the display. This needs a lot more than 5 minutes and creates the risk of unwanted side-effects.

    And what about 'ß,ä,ö,ü'?

Compared to the English layout I also can't stand the arrangement of special characters on a German keyboard.

PS: John, Ethiopia? Quite some exotic holiday destination!? But while you are there, could you please check if they have LTE in their NP730U3E ;)

Well, we have æ, ø, å - which are in the same place as the German ä, ö, ü - so that's ok, the ß I can just ignore.

Biggest problem no doubt are switched y and z :)

Why everybody talks about the graphics card 8570M?

This was as a specification for the pre-release versions, but now the 8550M is installed. Or have I missed something in all the links?

Same here, tho we have äöå. But then there's all the "missplaced" characters which might be another possible dealbreaker.
I dont care if touch or not, actually I'd prefer the non-touch. So the only reason for me buying it in Germany would be the additional 128GB of space and I'm not sure waranty, keyboard and all that is worth the extra GB's. I hope its possible to replace the SSD entirely...

Hmm the two stores here in Sweden has the 8570

Those who have watched my movements will know that I've been to Ethiopia previously.

LTE wouldn't be much use in Ethiopia. The 3G system is only in the capital and runs at 1G speed. The emails trickle through to my phone but opening a web page is usually too much of a challenge for the system. That's still an improvement on a couple of years ago.

Signed up just for this :p

I work at a BestBuy in Canada, the 740U3E popped up in our system with a config of i5, 8GB, 256GB SSD for $1355 CDN. That's a pretty impressive price imo for those specs. Also, anytime a laptop shows up in our system, it has arrived in store usually within 1 week, the most ever was 2 weeks. Can't wait :)

Yeah, it will be released here in Denmark next week, price is not great, but it has always been like that with Samsung here, no idea why.
    Germany is 25% cheaper :)

I'm seriously debating buying this baby when it comes out instead of the new Chronos but have one concern:

Will the i73537u 2.0GHz feel sluggish relative to the quad core i7 on the chronos?

Other than standard programs I use photoshop and do some basic HD video editing, as well as some basic programming with MATLAB which is occasionally resource hungry. usually I have a few apps open at the same time (plus loads of chrome tabs). How well will the i73537u be able to handle these?

    Thanks

No real answer to this other than testing with your applications. Does your current setup feel sluggish, and if so, is the i73537u a big improvement on paper? What about RAM and storage? With Photoshop I find that CPU is usually the bottleneck (unless working with files bigger than RAM, but that's rare for me these days). With all the multitasking you are doing, more cores would obviously be an advantage, but if your current set up is dual core and not being stressed too much, maybe you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah my current laptop is sluggish - I'm using a T60 thinkpad from 2006! with a core 2 duo CPU - though if I cleaned up the laptop and reformatted it would be fairly ok. I dont know how the i73537u compares on paper to the core 2 duo - but paper comparisons aren't worth that much anyway since you always need to get a better cpu over time just to keep up with modern apps/os. Also I don't do the photoshop and hd video stuff on the thinkpad.

    I like this computer.

I work as a 3D designer/modeller and am looking for a second laptop.
It will be for when I go away on weekends and need to catch up on some 3D work (easy to carry around with me).
The modelling software I use is just like high-end 3D games stuff.

Now I'm wondering whether to get this or wait for Haswell architecture to be released.
As this has a dedicated graphics card, Haswell may not be much of an improvement?

That's cool, we don't get the version without dedicated graphics in Europe, I don't need it and it's probably more silent without it :)

But without the separate GPU it's getting very similar to the 13.3" Series 9 (the X3E also has the FHD display). However, this NP730U3E also has the touchscreen and an extra USB port.

Well... Even without dedicated GPU is still some notches above the S9 (except for portability): Normal size lan and hdmi ports, more RAM (for me, the main issue wtih the S9)...

Either way the stores here in Sweden has the version with the 8570m.

I'm still very very curious about the black version, are they legit those pictures? Why is it named ATIV book 7?
Asked a retailer here in Sweden and they had not heard anything about a black one

The model shown in this review has 2 SODIMM slots and an mSATA SSD (under the white cable on the left side of the board). However, this needs to be verified from other sources since some specs show some RAM on board and one slot.

At present the mSATA SSDs stop at 256GB except for the 480GB Mushkin which uses a daughterboard and is slighter thicker than the others. However, we expect higher capacity standard mSATA SSDs to be released by other manufacturers within the next 6 months once the required chips are in mass production.

I wonder if they haven't looked inside. The specs issued by Samsung say SSD without being specific about the type.

That Russian site has the only internal photo I can find.
