I have a Samsung Ultrabook 5 laptop and from what I have read I am not the only one who hears this weird robot sounding scratched record like noise( kind of like a bzzzzzzziiipppppp) once in a while when I'm on my laptop, what is causing it, is it normal, is it a known issue with samsung hard drives? I just got this thing a week ago and want to know if I should return it, any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    1. First you need to be sure that the sound is from the speakers. Does the sound disappear if you mute the speakers?
    2. Right click on the speaker icon in the notification area and select the mixer. What happens if you try turning the various sound sources in turn to minimum?
    3. Right click on the speaker icon in the notification area and check what recording and playback devices you have enabled. If more than one is there, try disabling something and see of the sound goes away.
    4. Check through the System Sounds and try diasbling the various noises (I have my Windows set to "No Sounds").

I'll look into that when I'm by the laptop, I just assumed this sound was coming from the speakers, it's a digital type sound that kind of reminded me of the move Transformers, when those robots are making those machine like sounds haha that is what it reminds of. I can't make the computer make this sound either, just randomly does it from time to time, I have read many many threads today from people who have experienced this type of sound on all different brands of laptops and different operating systems, some say it could be cell phone interference or a sign of bad hard drive, no one had a solution, just a lot of could be this or that, this thing is a week old and everything works awesome, the speakers perform really well, just this weird sound is making me nervous, anyway thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, I'll check out your suggestions later.

Hey there, I did listen to that, I hear what you have in that sound file from my computer except it is a little different ( a couple more weird sounds like that added to it) and does not last as long as that did, I'm pretty sure whatever it is that is causing this is the same issue we are both having, there has to be some sort of explanation from the amount of posts you find when looking around the internet, it isn't just Samsung, I don't know what to do as far as returning this or not, if you figure anything out let me know please.

Not off hand, I have spent about 6 hours today reading about this, just google high pitch buzzing sound from laptop and you will see hundreds of posts, this sound is not coming from the speakers I have concluded, I don't think it's a huge issue but I sure would feel a lot better if someone told me this is where the sound is coming from, this is why it's happening and it is totally normal, I'm off to go see what I can find out, I'll keep you posted.

    1. Google "CPU whine".
    2. Also, put your ear on the palm rest when the noise occurs (the HDD is underneath). HDDs can make periodic interesting noises.

Yes I read about cpu whine and coil whine, I was playing a card game last night on it and it did it then, seems to happen when I'm playing a game and the computer is working harder than normal, plus sometimes when the game would make a sound, the cards shuffling or whatever, when that sound came out of the speaker a different weird chirping/buzzing sound would also come out of it, I don't get it, I do not think the way it is behaving should be considered normal, guess I'll take it back to best buy and see what those genius's think
