After I purchased my laptop I immediately installed a clean Windows on it. I installed all updates through SW Update except one: the "System Optimization Service".

I never install something on my computer unless I know what it does. I couldn't find any information whatsoever about this service and I surely won't install it unless I find some.

Does anyone have any idea what this service does?

    Hi Jiia, welcome to NBR.

I seem to recall seeing that feature in newer versions 2.3.x of Samsung Settings -- the main power management driver on Samsung laptops, and the control center that opens with Fn-F1. But it is not in earlier Settings versions 2.0.x (which I prefer). As I recall, it included various sub-options for optimizing Internet Explorer and other system functions.

Personally I would avoid it, knowing Samsung's track record when it comes to messing with Windows system internals: Something they love doing, but often with less than savory outcomes.

Previous incarnations of Settings (called Easy Settings, used with Win7) had an insidious feature called Boot Optimization / Samsung Fast Boot Mode which would delay the loading of various system tasks in order to make it appear that the computer boots faster -- in some cases causing other programs, which depend on those tasks, to fail. Fortunately they didn't port that feature to Settings (for Win8.x). I hope this is not an attempt to revive that thing.

Yo can read more about this in the threads linked below:

If you will tell us your model number (full number, please, such as NP940X3G-S02US) we can download that module with SW Update and check it further.
