cool I'll give these a try. hopefully this week.

After installing Win10 I initially noticed that things ran pretty quickly, however I had to manually go looking for a bunch of drivers since Win10 used old drivers from 2006 (even after a system reset). I had to go find the bluetooth, realtek sound, nvidia. Some others I manually asked win10 to look for updated drivers which it did.

I've also recently noticed that firefox runs very slow these days, and the scrolling is especially slow. This forum in particular runs slow for me for some reason, in firefox, edge, and now chrome. At least in Chrome it is ok, in firefox it slowed everything down and made it unusable. Even as I type this in Chrome, I am typing faster than the letters appear. Not sure about other pages yet.

Going off the topic for this thread but regarding the forum running slowly, see this thread. The solution worked for me.

If that doesn't fix the problem the try the VB 3.x skin (the setting is in bottom left corner of the forum screen) and finally read the other thread about the bugs with the new forum software.

    Hi all,
Slight digression, but relevant in the long run.

I have managed to do a clean install of Windows 10 and then create a factory image from the new installation.
In other words, get myself completely rid of Windows 8.1 because I really don't want anything to do with it anymore, especially since Windows 10 turns out to be so great for me.

I've created a guide on how I got everything set and run and I've taken the liberty to post the link here.

Did you install the Windows 10 drivers / software offered by Samsung SW Update? If not, do so. Those installed by Windows 10 may not be optimized for your notebook.

I have a NP780Z5E Series 7 Chronos. I have windows 10 clean installed for a while now and my computer won't wake up from sleep. I have to hold down the power button to get it to restart. I know I have seen this problem in this forum but wasn't sure if there was a solution yet for this. I've reinstalled graphics drivers, samsung drivers for graphics same result. I have just been waiting to see if a windows update will fix it. Or another update from samsung. I also have a 1TB 850 EVO SSD installed as well. It's not a huge deal considering ssds boot up fairly quickly but I still like to use sleep mode.

I have the same problem as the previous post :( I clean installed windows 10 on my np880z53-x01pl (updated with and ssd and and 7620 wifi card) and everything seems to wok fine except for the sleep function. Whenever the computer wakes it goes into a black screen and have to hard restart it with the use of the power button.

I tried tenths of solutions like installing drivers for graphics, intel IME (this seemed to resolve the problem in HP laptops but not in samsung) etc but without luck.

If anyone has any info please let us know. it is making everyday work a hell when you need to move from office to office.

P.S: the battery life seems to be radically decreased but at the moment it is second in priority as an issue

I upgraded (Samsung NP370R4E-S06PH) from win8.1 earlier via the Windows Update. After the upgrade, I installed the drivers offered for my laptop (Graphics Driver, Brightness Patch, Sound Driver, Intel ME Interface Driver, Touchpad Driver, and LAN Driver). Everything works fine, except that I can't receive files via Bluetooth. I can still send files and even access internet using the Bluetooth tethering feature of my phone. When I checked the task manager, btmshellex have disappeared from the list of Startup programs. Samsung isn't offering an update for Bluetooth driver of my laptop. The one listed for my device in Find Model list is for Atheros model but my laptop has Intel. How do I solve this?

Hi, I had the exact same issue. I could send files via bluetooth, but I could not receive them. I thought the latest driver was installed, and when I went to Device Manager to see if there was a newer driver for my bluetooth adapter (Intel Centrino 6235 wifi/bluetooth) it gave me the message that the latest driver was already installed. I then went to the Network adapter section and checked for a newer driver on the same device and it found one and installed it. I am now able to receive bluetooth files.

I went to the Device Manager and checked if there's an update for the driver listed under Bluetooth section (the encircled one in the attached image). There's a new update so I installed the new update and restarted my laptop afterwards. However, I still can't receive files via Bluetooth. Should I also update Intel Centrino 6235 listed under Network adapter section? The driver listed there is for Wi-Fi adapter.

I did what you said. It still doesn't work even if I updated Intel Centrino 6235 and restarted my laptop afterwards. I still can't receive files from bluetooth.

Another weird thing I noticed after the upgrade is that Windows 10 detected my laptop as a device with "limited touch support with 5 touch points" even though my laptop doesn't have touchscreen support at all. Well, that's just a minor nuisance compared to the bluetooth problem.

NP700G7C-S01UK W7-HP Once I uninstalled Easy Settings and Mode Shift I upgraded to Windows 10. Once Upgrade had done it's thing I installed the latest SWUpdate App from the Samsung UK support page and loaded the 8.1 'Settings' App (replaces Easy Settings). This recovered the Function Keys operations and Brightness control. I reset Software Launcher and added Settings to the menu bar. Windows Update had installed the NVidia, Sound and Bluetooth drivers and everything seemed to be working OK, except for Mode Shift. I have been unable to find any way to get this running again. The mode shift jog dial is mechanically switching the keyboard lights and LED's but that's about it. There is no software control of fans or display graphics and the laptop appears to be running much hotter under heavy graphics use. So this is a serious issue as far as I am concerned. I tried rolling back the NVidia driver and the Intel Management Engine Interface but no change. Soon after Windows rolled the files forward again. I emailed Samsung UK support but there was little help other than to keep an eye on the support pages for updated drivers. One support guy said to contact Microsoft about the issue.. really? !!
These machines are only 3/4 years old and I expected Samsung to be a little more proactive in their support. /sigh

The issue with being hotter is the power management. I found with Windows 7 that even under high performance the CPU idles at 1.2 GHz but with W10 it idles at 2.4 GHz, this with my 17-3820qm. I do not do prolonged high stress gaming so I had not noticed anything too concerning.

I did not see a ModeShift for even Windows 8.1 so in the end on that the systems may be SOL. This is something you may have to accept with a new OS. The fact that the programability layers of certain features change and you may have to accept the OS defaults.

The most recent models of our system, although ATI based, were the T02-US. Even this model has no 8.1 mode shift drivers available. The most recent are the 8.0 drivers and this is version 2.0.0.1. I downloaded it from the server and it was really slow, it took forever on my fast pipe. So I will host that version also on my server for those who want it. I actually have the old W7 version as well too.

Thanks for the response Andy. Thanks for the tip on idle speed. I did install 2.0.0.1 but it made no discernible difference. What is concerning is that the laptop is getting warm just web browsing, screen brightness down to 25% and there is no auto-increase in fan speed to compensate as there used to be. This may cause a premature failure if not managed. I had to drop the resolution and anti-aliasing (and play time) when on EvE Online. So, even though this model is listed on Samsung SWUpdate list there is no way at this time to restore these functions. More pressure on Samsung needed I guess. I am not prepared to have this (flagship) laptop consigned to the scrapheap but I may have to seriously consider restoring Windows 7 in the meantime. My future purchasing needs won't be going Samsung's way.

Actually for Gaming they are out of the picture. Even allot of their other lineups have suffered. Even worse yet the UK and some other countries may never see new models. By the fact you are lowering screen brightness I imagine you run off battery. That is something I hadn't tried. I do know off AC there was no issue running benchmarks and having the fans kick in as needed. To save battery the W10 profiles may not kick in fans till the heat is critical, just being the devils advocate here.

Yes I run on batteries sometimes as I travel a lot but honestly the issue is the same either way. What used to happen was that the fans noticeably picked up about 30 mins after switch-on and ticked over with a gentle sound (standard mode). Laptop has been on now for approx 1½ hour (mains supply) and the keyboard and surrounding area is getting uncomfortably hot to the point I will have to shut down soon. The fans have not spun up to compensate. I doubt it's a hardware fault as the issue has manifested itself only since upgrade, so that leaves driver compatibility issues. Seems like I have decided to roll back the OS, at least for now. I am putting pressure on Samsung UK to respond. This is/was a flagship laptop, it's not old and not a cheap one and I am sure there are legal pressures in Europe that can be brought to bear or at least threatened. Companies that neglect their active customer base always invariably fail.

I saw today Samsung 'to cut 10% of back office jobs and halve expenditure'. Writing is on the wall?

The problem may lie, at least with this model, it was never advertised as a Windows 10 compatible machine. Even though the hardware technically is their software suite is not fully. Now if the chipset drivers are of issue this may be your machine. My fans, at least under AC, worked flawlessly. I had it on battery for a few short periods but noticed nothing awry. I again though did not try and install modeshift so that could be an issue right there.

I had this same problem and the solution is actually quite simply.

Right click on the bluetooth icon in the notification panel and select "receive a file".

I also use the intel driver update utility to check for newer versions of Intel Centrino 6235 drivers.

    http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Sometimes though, it will still say a newer version of a driver is available even though it is still installed, but I think it's a glitch with the Intel service.

Samsung BIOS has processor power saving enabled and AHCI enabled. No change. In further comms with @SamsungUK over Twitter they pointed me to SWUpdate but on checking it was an older version than I currently have, also Win10 blocked it's installation. UK Support now want to talk to me direct which I guess is a good thing but as I am travelling I will do that soon as I get back to the UK. I'll update here accordingly. :)

I did this but "receive file" isn't showing (see attached image). I also tried running fsquirt.exe but that didn't work too.

I also did this one too but I still can't receive files via bluetooth. I guess I'll just have to wait for SW Update for the driver update.

    I understand now.

I remember a few problems I was facing while updating my bluetooth drivers just before windows 10 came in.

Have you tried using a third party bluetooth manager, although I've never felt the need to use one, you might try it.

I got it working now by reinstalling the old driver version that worked in Windows 8.1. I uninstalled Intel Bluetooth driver first an then I installed the Intel Bluetooth driver exported from Windows 8.1 section in SW update. After that, I updated the driver via Device Manager. Somehow, the old installation of bluetooth got corrupted when I upgraded to Windows 10, which is why my laptop lost the capability to receive bluetooth-sent files. After restart, Btmshellex has returned to the list of startup programs in task manager. Now my laptop can send and also receive files via bluetooth although I lost the capability to connect my laptop to my phone's internet through bluetooth tethering.

Edit: I unpaired and paired my phone and laptop and now I can connect my laptop to the internet via bluetooth tethering. All is well now.

    Hi all,

Today I received for my Samsung ATIV Book 8 880ZE X01 running under Windows 10 Pro an update via Samsung Update. Apparently for Graphics Driver about 750 MB without any reference whether for the Intel Driver or the AMD Driver, but hinting to the Intel Version 10.18.10.4242.
Wondering why I do get an update presented for a very same installed version, I shrugged and agreed to update. Like Murphey's Law says, never change a running system, guess what happened! For now at least running brightness control did break. This is ridiculous, and I do not care if it is Intel's, AMD's or (most likely) Samsung's fault. It is more ridiculous as under Windows 8.1 Pro (parallel still installed), the very latest Windows 8 Brightness Patch under Samsung Update does not install but it never failed to work.
Is life not less funny, when it does not been made more complicated from big playing companies? *eg*

P.S. Using last working Windows 10 Restore Point did reveal, that this last "Samsung Upgrade" was mere more messing around than only "updating" Intel Drivers, it messed around even further with AMD drivers altogether.
Any how restore did work out and Brightness Control is working up back again!

P.P.S. For those who do want to know more about working driver versions, I worked out a script summing up all running drivers, their names and their versions.
Beware that you will need sigcheck i.e. from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897441!
Just unzip and create a batch-file within the unziped-folder - like drvver.bat with following content:
    Code:
    @echo off
echo Path - Modulename - Displayname - Info - Version
    for /f "delims=, tokens=1,2,3,6,14" %%a in ('driverquery /v /nh /fo csv') do (
     for /f %%v in ('.\sigcheck -accepteula -q -n "%%~e"') do (
      if %%~d==Running echo %%~e - %%~a - %%~b - %%~c - %%~v
     )
    )
Remember to use elevated admin-rights, though! ;)

P.P.P.S. For comparison reasons with above mentioned machine appended my actual _working_ driver versions created by above script.

P.P.P.P.S. Why did this post get deleted from the >> 2013 Series 7 chronos / Ativ Book 8 15" owner's lounge (NP770Z5E / NP780Z5E / NP870Z5E / NP880Z5E) << Board? Was it not obviously for an Ativ Book 8? Or was it just to helpful there? *eg*

You had cross posted your request for Win10 upgrade help in both this thread and the AB8 Owners Lounge. I deleted the latter. If you prefer the opposite, we can move your post from this thread to the AB8 Owners Lounge. But you have since made a new post in the Owners Lounge linking to your post here, which is fine too.

What we cannot offer is to let you make duplicate posts in multiple threads (so-called cross posting). As I explained in my private message to you, cross posting is forbidden (and generally considered rude) on pretty much every internet forum -- not just NBR. The reason is simple: While the poster may want maximum exposure for his/her question (same as spammers do) it wastes other members' time when they respond to questions only to find them already answered elsewhere. And it creates confusion when the same question/topic is discussed simultaneously in multiple places. You fill find it as one of the top items described in our forum rules (that was a link).

There was nothing "helpful" about the post I deleted, merely an exact duplicate of the questions and request for help which you originally also posted here. You have since added some useful information to your post here, which is good (I can see the Edit history). Again, in such cases posting a link to the useful post in other relevant threads is how to do it.

This is off topic, and I only post it here because you made a loud fuss about it in both threads. If you have further questions, feel free to send me a private message.

BTW, as I also said in my message to you: Welcome to NBR. And thank you for the information you now shared :)

On an Ative Book 8, does anybody know how to set the Elan touchpad drag-and-drop timeout (aka draglock) setting? I had this ability in Windows 8.1 within the Elan Touch Pad options screen (via the Mouse & Touchpad Control Panel) but in Win10 that delay/timeout option is gone. The current drag-and-drop timeout is about 1/2 a second which is way too long for my taste.

For the curious the symptoms are you drag an icon around the screen by holding down on the touchpad, you let go of the touchpad to stop the drag-and-drop but if you place your finger back onto the touchpad before the 1/2 second timeout the cursor will still have the object and it will continue to drag.

Finally updated my ATIV 9 NP900X3E (3rd gen Ivy Bridge) to Win 10 today.

Took about a half hour total, everything seems to be in order thus far (knock on wood). After complete installation, I ran both Windows Update and Samsung Update again and there were about 8 more updates in Windows and a couple more in Samsung that were available, so be sure to run both of those again once everything appears to be finished in Win 10.

One change I noticed is that a couple of my Elan trackpad settings (reverse scrolling and two finger tap) got changed back to their default settings in the process of updating to Win 10, but I was able to change them back to my preferred settings by running both the 'ETDAniConf' tool that John has talked about and the general Touchpad Settings. Each has different boxes and options as how to configure, but for the way I like my trackpad to function, there's settings in each that I needed to change.

Try finding ETDAAniConf application in Elantech folder under Program Files then go to drag and drop setting. You can also edit other settings there too if you want.

Could you check if FN+F5 works? Because in my PC doesn't work. It should disable touchpad.

2nd problem which I have. Sometimes whole keyboard doesn't work, and I have to restart my PC to fix it.

Upgraded from Win7 a few days ago. No major issues to report apart from one. Only getting USB2.0 speeds from the USB3.0 ports (~15MB/S) from a Sandisk Extreme 64GB key. Previously under WIN7 I was getting between 120-200MB/S read/write speeds. Have tried various drivers to no avail. Currently just have the default Renesas USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 that Windows installs. Seem to recall SW Update had a specific Win7 USB3.0 driver, but there isn't one for Win8, 8.1 or 10...

<EDIT> I should mention that under "Devices" in "Settings", Windows correctly identifies the drive as being connected to USB3.0 - so why am I only getting USB 2.0 type speeds?

<EDIT#2> The plot thickens. The slow read/wrote speeds I am seeing are only when using File Explorer to move files. Benchmark tool gives me the typical speeds I was seeing previously in Win 7

    Any ideas?

Find the flash drive in Device Manager, select Properties > Policies and select Better Performance.

By default the write policy for flash drives is Quick Removal which means that each file is not sent to the drive until there is confirmation that the preceding one has been written successfully. Better Performance means that data is sent to the drive as fast as it is able to receive it.

Other than one posting in this thread referring to a successful result, I have been unable to find any reference on the internet to upgrading an NP550P7C to Windows 10, and Samsung does not list any Windows 10 drivers. How risky would it be to attempt the upgrade?

Hi everyone and specially John, could you please help me with my 2 questions? i would really appreciate it :)

I have an ativ book 8 from best buy ... and i have always used windows 8 (initial reports said that 8.1 was too buggy) .... now it seems to be that 8.1 is really stable and people is not losing brightness control or being able to switch graphic cards.

I have runned all update from SW update (bios included) and windows update .... so my questions are:

    1. If i update througt windows store can i be sure that i will go to w8.1 ? (i do not want to go to w10 because it seems people is losing lots of battery time , plus like the look better on 8xx version)

    2. if for some reason i do not like 8.1 over previous 8.0, what is the safest way to come back (unfortunately i lost revovery partition when changing from original HDD to SDD)? ........... do you think there is a battery duration diferrence between this two versions?

    Thank you very much!
    Have a great day

I've had some sad experience upgrading my VERY old laptop Samsung R40 to W10. Installation went smoothly but then I faced some strange glitch: if I reboot it then everything is fine, but when I shut it down and then power on, it takes about 5 minutes to start! Investigating further I found that an old ATA HDD is the cause. Every time W10 got shut down it makes kind of cache data on HDD of the current system state and when it powered on it reads that cached data for faster startup. But for unknown reason in case of shutting down/powering on an HDD works in very slow PIO mode and that is why it takes that long to read that cached data before it starts.

Tried upgrading BIOS but no success. Windows 10 itself on Samsung R40 works pretty good but takes unacceptably long to start so I had to revert it back to Windows 7. :( Anyway, I am using it as a video player while coding on another machine ))

Your experience probably reflects the age of the R40: The BIOS probably only supports PIO mode.

There may be a command buried deep in W10 to disable writing that cache file and do a full shut down. It's not something I've had reason to look for.

    Hi brayitzu, welcome to NBR.

This thread is for Win10 updates, but we have a similar thread for Win8.1 updates -- which used to cause a lot of headaches, but which are now safe for most users. That thread was stickied until earlier this year, but you will find it listed in the Samsung Forum Sticky List (on top of the Samsung forum near this thread). Also in the sticky list, you will find the Ativ Book 8 Owners Lounge thread.

I recommend you scan through those two threads for information specific to your model. I do remember brightness control being a recurring issue for AB8, but there are recent postings in the Owners Lounge with a new to approach to that -- which may apply to both Win8.x and Win10.

If you have further questions about Win8.1 update, I recommend you post them in the Owners Lounge, where you are most likely to find other AB8 owners.

As for backing up before the Win8.1 update (always good practice) we cover that in the Win8.1 update thread. But since you don't have Samsung Recovery Solution (SRS) on your disk, you can use any disk imaging tool. Many members seem to like Acronis, but there are several others. Normally we recommend avoiding 3rd party imaging tools because they can damage SRS, however that is not an issue for you.

Hi guys, Ratsey, Dannemand, everyone else..
I've recently upgraded my 530U3C to Win 10 and so far the experience has been terrible.
Lost a bunch of functions and the laptop is extremely slow, specially at startup and shutdown.
I was wondering if anyone here already upgraded and was able to solve at least some of the issues..

I'd love to get back Fast Start, Fast Boot, ExpressCache hibernation and cache, mobile AP, bluethoot settings, and preferably working on Samsung Settings app..
If not, I'd be glad with a faster boot, and ExpressCache working..
    Anyone with any solution?

    Thanks.

Hi skor, haven't seen you in awhile. Good to have you back.

I am afraid I am no help when it comes to Win10, as I have not yet made the jump myself. I simply haven't had the time, though I'll be tempted with the next release, which reportedly allows clean install directly using Win7 or 8.x product keys (see this and this).

As for the cross posting, I DO understand your reasoning, but I still don't like it because it encourages discussion of the same issue in two different threads. That's why the cross posting rule exists in the first place. In fact, I deleted posts from other members who did the same -- and received some understandably flak for it.

I suggest you edit your post in the NP530Uxx thread to the effect that "I had several issues after updating to Win10. Please see my post here in the Win10 thread and post your own findings there." Or you can do it the other way around, if you prefer those discussions in the NP530Uxx thread.

I am sorry to be such a nazi about it...

    Hey Dannemand,
I haven't been as active since I've become a dad a year ago. My life has changed dramatically after that.

I don't want to debate this with you, as I DO also understand the rules and where you're coming from, I didn't consider this cross posting simply because here we discuss general Win 10 Samsung solutions that my apply to my laptop as well as others, and in NP530Uxx thread all issues are specific to them.
That said, if you agree, I'll edit my posts, and instead of redirecting them, I'll just make them more directed to the thread itself, as in my opinion both "audiences" might benefit from it. Do you agree?
If you prefer, PM me, to avoid polluting the threads.

    Thanks.

Hey, congrats on the fatherhood :)

I am OK with that. In essence that's two different post in different threads, presumably leading to two different discussions. I still wonder if you wouldn't be better off having all the discussions in one place -- be that this or the NP530Uxx thread -- but I'll leave that to you.

    Thank you for understanding!

Edit: I am posting it here (instead of PM) so that others may see and understand the dilemma that cross posting poses.
