Run SW Update and see if you are offered the driver once again.

Hi guys,
I have the model 770Z5E-S01IT (Intel HD 4000/Radeon 8800M) and unfortunately I haven't read this post before trying to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I encountered same common problems (blank screen, cursor flickering) and had to reinstall the whole system through my USB device. Even after that, SWupdate didn't open and I couldn't regulate my screen brightness. I also noticed the mouse issue.
On Windows 8.1 I tried to re-install an older AMD driver version at first, but that crashed my system again. I worked out the problem in this way:
1. Download the SW update from samsung.com
2. Install it, then check possible update of the SW application
3. Install all upgrades, in particular the Intel driver one (823 Mb)
After rebooting I could control the screen brightness and, to my great surprise, also the Catalyst Control Center and Switchable graphics from AMD Radeon DID work. Now I have AMD driver 13.152.0.0 (date 30/08/2013), Intel driver 10.18.10.3304 (date 09/09/2013) and so far so good. So I didn't have to install the AMD beta drivers. I solved the mouse issue through a further upgrade from SW update.
Nevertheless I have the impression that my graphics features still aren't as brilliant as in Windows 8. Probably only a sensation?
It's been a REAL nightmare, Samsung and Microsoft shouldn't complicate matters to people who likely spent lot of money on laptop and system: I'm very disappointed, like all of you.
Without reading this article, I would never have understood my issue, thanks to all of you.
P.S. The mouse issue occured also to a friend of mine, who has an Acer notebook. He solved that by downloading the latest ELAN driver directly from Acer support. -
Latest Intel graphics driver available today on SW Update failed twice and caused BSOD on third attempt. Try at your own risk! (NP780Z5E S01UK here!)
-
So basically those new updates will be pushed untill you've installed Win 8.1? I thought I'd wait till all updates are available. But if it detects win 8.0 it wont send the updates to Sw update?

I already configured everything on my graphic drivers. But my Bluetooth still can't transfer files to my phone and vice versa. Will samsung release a new driver for it? any help?

I spend a couple of hours on the phone today with Samsung support concerning my NP900X3C-A03US laptop. I upgraded my machine from win 7 to Win 8.0 a number of months ago. When I attempted to upgrade to Win 8.1 it told me that I needed to remove Easy Settings (which is the settings program for win 7). Settings, the settings program for win 8 is also on my laptop. I was having difficulty removing Easy settings, and was calling about that problem. The tech support guy was very helpful, and after trying a number of things, finally was able to get Easy Settings removed.
He said that they are having a lot of problems with drivers - he said that some of the problem is Samsung's, and a lot of the problem is from the other various vendors also involved. He strongly suggested that I should not upgrade to windows 8.1 until the driver situation is straightened out. No date when that would be done was provided...John Ratsey likes this. -
My battery life is absolutely abysmal after installing Windows 8.1 on my NP740U3E-A01US. Managed to fix the brightness issue by reinstalling an old driver. Battery life is so bad that when I surf for an hour on Chrome I lose about 40% of my battery capacity. Seriously thinking about selling this laptop, had so many issues with the drivers, even in Windows 8.

My laptop is NP370R4E-S06PH and I upgraded my OS to 8.1 last Friday. After upgrading, it booted up normally and I can use my laptop normally too. Touchpad's normal and I can still open settings from Samsung. But after checking my system tray, I found that AMD was replaced with Intel. So, I lost switchable graphics and also the control for screen brightness. Currently, my AMD is blocked by windows and the current version of Intel is 10.18.10.3316. I could actually play some demanding games and programs without lag (these programs lag when I used Intel as its graphics). I don't know why and I can't still access the switchable graphics settings. I think I still have access to AMD driver but just can't access the settings.
SW update offered me update for both Intel (10.18.10.3304) and AMD (12.102.0.0). Should I update these drivers? I'm afraid I may get black screen issue if I updated it. -
sadly, no changes after doing that. Still no poweplan except the silent mode in the settings an no chance to confiugre wlan and bluetooth in windows. I need to change the wlan settings for the eduroam network at my university. -
Finally I fixed ultrabook my sister and she has 8.1, but I can't turn on BIOS, When I see Samsung logo, I click F2 and I don't see BIOS setup, on my 9 series after one click F2 immediately I see BIOS, anyone know can't I enter in BIOS?

Since the problems with windows 8.1 I explained earlier in this thread I formated and installed Windows 7 on my Samsung NP880Z5E-X01SE. I installed SW update and have checked everyday since for drivers for Windows 8.1. To do this I had to manually search in SW update with my modell number NP880Z5E and choose 8.1 to manually search, and as of today there was always two drivers that was SW Update and Airplane mode...
When I connected to SW update and checked today it looks like the drivers have been updated, I got tho choose from this (see screenshot) when I searched my modell....
So now I think im ready to install Windows 8.1 ones againMAYBE.....
Only problem now is im afraid of that the drivers wont work, since I dont trust this anymore...

Hello. I'm a owner of a Samsung Ativ Book 6 (model NP6705E-XD1BR, the Brazilian variant without the FullHD touchscreen but with AMD Radeon HD 8800m). I've update to Windows 8.1 past week but it was a compelte mess. Since following this thread I've been checking the SW Update. Today the "Windows Blue" option changed to Windows 8.1 and after some attempts to get the drivers, they finally showed up (14 itens, total 2,46GB). Anybody else got this with others models?

As posted by several members, Samsung pushed a number of driver updates today through SW Update. This in addition to the updated Settings 2.2.0.5 which was pushed a few days ago.
That means everything now works flawlessly across all models, with no problems whatsoever; and all users can just go ahead and run the 8.1 upgrade, without worrying about making backups or any other kind of precautions
That was a joke, guys! Though of course, if it proves to be true, that would be a wonderful thing
Obviously, this is good news
But needless to say, I still recommend proceeding with caution and making backups (as previously posted) before running the 8.1 upgrade or even installing the new drivers.
I updated the opening post to reflect this (including backup info). Once we have enough confirmation from owners of different models, we can change the thread title.
Thank you once more to all members who posted information and solutions here!John Ratsey and Kira89 like this. -

Among the various options is one to change the UEFI settings. Select that and your computer will reboot into the BIOS setup.

well, today afternoon, SWUpdate finally came up with updated versions of several driver packages for the Ativ 8. Fearlessly installed all of them and no problems up to now. Note there is a huge update package for the graphics driver (over 800MB) that contains both the Intel HD and AMD drivers (internally, the same versions as the 13.11 beta, but installed anyway to be sure). WLAN, Bluetooth, Intel Rapid Storage, Chipset, Intel ME and so on were also updated and seem to be working. Settings says power consumption is around 6-8W when the system is running more or less idle (on a Core i7!), that would be 2 Watts less than before (Bluetooth turned off, but eco mode also turned off).
So all the toil finally came to an end, hopefully

im updating the video driver and many others now. Don't now if updating to windows 8.1 is ok after that -
Hey Guys,
I encountered the same problems as described in this thread while updating my quite new Ativ Book 7 to Win 8.1.
Due to this fact I decided to step back to Win 8.0 by recovery mode and wait out till things level off.
So now I'm back at status quo but also experience difficulties concerning display brightness, which I simply can't adjust manually.
Slow but steady I'm starting to freak out, cause screen brightness is permanently automatically adjusted, most time to a very low level.
As far as I see this problem concerns the main graphics (AMD Radeon HD 8570M), which isn't working properly.
Re-Installing drivery by SW Update takes no effect after all.
Could someone please help me out?
Thx in advance!
Rgds,
Michael

Nice to see Samsung is working on new drivers.
I think it's best to stay on Windows 8.0 until we can be absolutely sure about compatability.
I got a new issue. I rolled back to factory image. There is a strange behavior concerning shutdown, standby and restart. When I hit restart, it turns off after 30 seconds at the black screen. In that case, I have to start the system manually.
When I hit shutdown or standby, the system freezes as soon as the screen goes black. In this case I have to turn off the device manually.
Any ideas, folks? -
The new touchpad drivers have disabled (removed) loads of features - such as inertia scrolling, natural scrolling etc - returning to the old windows 8 ones
-
Agggrrrr - can't seem to find the old touchpad drivers - anyone know what version they were? Can't get them off SWSetup anymore
-
-
Annoyingly there seems to be 3 options for the graphics drivers now - the Samsung SW Update, the beta download from AMD, and finally one from Windows Update itself is now being offered. Anyone know which is best?
-
EDIT: For some reason, these drivers won't work now.. They worked perfectly before I updated everything else ... -
-
same here.
return to windows 8 driver dont work.

Really disappointing for Samsung, should have been ready for the 8.1 release. Lesson learned, next time will backup. Also windows should have a way to uninstall easily but that's another story. -
Of course you can pull that Settings version from another model. But I think the fact that it is missing for your model in SW Update, is a sign that some ketchup is still stuck in the bottle, and we have to remain patient until Samsung has released everything that needs to be released and pushed it through SW Update.
As I mentioned before, Settings interacts with BIOS, and different models have different BIOS families. It could well be that 2013 models need certain tweaks in Settings in order to be fully compatible with BIOS on those machines.
Edit:
OK, upon further inspection, it appears to be a genuine mess with the SW Update database. SW Update automatically offers me Settings version 2.2.0.5 for my NP700Z3A, but if I look up that model (using Find Model) it only lists the much older 2.0.0.30. In fact, I cannot locate ANY model that has 2.2.0.5 listed under Find Model. To me this simply screams they are not ready yet, they're still compiling, testing and pushing drivers to SW Update, but they're only partially through with it.
Regarding Brightness:
I also want to mention that problems adjusting brightness go back since forever with Samsung laptops, caused by Adaptive Brightness fiercely resisting attempts to be disabled. In addition to automatically changing brightness (which many users don't want) it has the effect of preventing maximum brightness. The traditional solution has been to disable Adaptive Brightness in all the places listed in this post. Also check this post and that entire thread. Be aware that anytime Intel Display Driver and/or Settings is re-installed, Adaptive Brightness needs to be disabled again. I don't know if this also applies for those having brightness problems in 8.1. If it does, this is a cleaner fix than hacking the registry.
Edit:
Noticed ipconfig's report below. Sounds like this is indeed something else. Still, if others could check that Adaptive Brightness is disabled in ALL of the five places listed in this post that would help confirm whether this is merely the good old problem or a new one. (Not all models have all five places.) -
Here's my experience....
- Ativ Book 7 purchased July 2013 with Windows 8 installed.
- Kept all drivers up to date with SW Update and Windows update
- Upgraded to Windows 8.1 without issue
- After upgrade, I had the brightness issues other reported (and fixed it with the regedit hack)
- Also my system ran hotter after the upgrade to 8.1. The fan ran quite a bit more.
- Just saw 9 new updates in SW Update (all the ones that disappeared after the 8.1 upgrade), and installed them all successfully.
- After restart, I noticed that I lost the touchpad functionality others had reported.
- Using Device Manager, I found the touchpad device (in the mouse / input devices), and did a ROLL BACK.
- Restarted, and have all my touchpad options again.
- The fan / heat issue appears to not be a problem anymore, but not sure if that is due to the Samsung driver updates.
EDIT: I had adaptive brightness disabled after I installed 8.1, but still had that brightness issue others experienced. The only way I found to fix it was the registry hack.
EDIT 2: Had to revert the HD audio drivers too... I lost the effects tab in the Realtek HD audio manager app. Very strange / stupid.Kira89 likes this. -
I have a problem, when I try to install the touchpad drivers, It just says failed (-10) Anyone know how to fix this?
-

I updated everything using SWUpdate and all the drivers are finally working correctly now including screen brightness, switchable graphics, and the touchpad. I have a NP880Z5E-X01UB.
-
should i update to windows 8.1 now? there are some windows 8.1 drivers showing up in my SW update
-
Of course if there are compelling reasons why a user MUST install (or upgrade to) Win 8.1 now, then today (after those latest updates) is much better than yesterday. But knowing what is in 8.1, I cannot imagine what those compelling reasons would be, that cannot wait a little longer -

Did you try running the Windows activation?
John -
John do you have P10 or P09?
-
-
SWSetup now has a Windows 8.1 brightness fix available for download too.
-
which driver fix it?
-
Am I the only one that's angry that my laptop (np700z5b) that is less than two years old isn't listed as a device getting Windows 8.1 support? I realize that it didn't come with Windows 8 originally, but I really don't feel that people replace laptops often enough that I should be losing support already. I feel like Samsung is giving me the Android treatment and I don't like it.
-
My laptop is NP530U4C-S06PH.. Only SW Update 2.1.19.0 shows up as available for Windows 8.1 on my product.. Can I update already to Windows 8.1?
-
I have just bought a 880Z5E. And used it 2 days before I updated to 8.1. Before the update I'm sure the fan didn't run all the time. Then I updated to 8.1 and used it a couple of days, and I think the fan didn't run all the time. Then I did all the updates from SW, and now the fan run all the time, from the minute I start the pc until I shut it down. Is it normal behavior for 880Z5E?
-
Finally everything working great with NP530U4E (brightness control too), good new drivers! Unfortunately the Setting program is not yet availbale, otherwise I'm not sure if that is important.
