I tried it. You lose a fair amount of functionality. Some drivers don't work. Most applications don't work (samsung applications that is).

Seems a bit odd to provide 4gb of RAM but not offer full 64-bit support.. feel free to email them about it. Maybe if enough of us email they'll add some 64-bit support.

Its odd, I don't seem to have 4 gigs, dxdiag reports 3066mb, I am certain i should be more around the 3200mb mark.

If you look in the windows startup centre it should show '4GB' of RAM. However in task manager only 3065mb is available for me.

The driver that didn't work was the wifi. This could probably be obtained on intel's site. However only a few of the programs actually work. The hotkey program doesn't (no fn+hotkey) which just made me think it's useless, for the time being at least.

Linux does work, however it was a pain to get the wireless working.. I suppose with a bit of patience and configuring with ndiswrapper it is possible. However, for the time being I'm happy to settle with 3gb of RAM. Maybe Samsung will release 64-bit apps in the future.

But your sure about windows startup centre being correct about the four gigs? I would hate to think that I have been short-changed here.

Most hardware programs (cpu-z etc.) should report 4GB..

32bit operating systems can't fully use 4GB of RAM.

I think manufacturers are including 4GB in order to either (i) make the specs look better or (ii) get full dual channel operation which boosts the memory performance compared to asymmetric dual channel (eg 1GB + 2GB). See part 2 of my E6400 review for some benchmark results using different RAM configuations (however, that was with the Intel X4500 GPU which uses the system RAM).
