How is it? As far as UI, scanning, etc.

Will download when I get home.

I am running my first scan on it now. The layout is nice and simplistic. It seems to be using about the amount of ram as AVG 8 was using. Scanning right now it is using between 44-48MB RAM.

CPU usage is sporadic from 17% - 54%

It seems to use less ram then AVG 8 did while it is not scanning. When I scanned it came up with 1 warning, but did not allow me to do anything with it or tell me what it was.

    Two changes I like:

    1. Clicking "Start AntiVir" opens Avira faster than in 8

    2. Scan is way faster and uses less resources

Version 9 adds adware/ spyware scanning. I think that they removed the splash screen from system start up, so no need to disable it...
Edit: The splash screen still appears.

We were talkin about the pop up advertisement that happens when Avira is updated, it still needs to be disabled.

I have a question for those that have already downloaded and installed version 9 (free version). Did you have to uninstall version 8 (also free version) prior to installing version 9, or were you able to simply "update" to version 9 without uninstalling version 8 first? Thanks in advance for any info provided on going form version 8 to 9.

I was just looking through the Avira forums and some people have reported a few problems - like some issues with Windows Defender. Can any of you confirm this? Or, for that matter, any other problems?

    Thanks

@yuyi64> I think you will need to uninstall the previous version and then install the newer version. I tried doing a product update from the main menu, but it just updated the Version 8. I will, however, wait for a few days before updating to Version 9.

But it is good to know that the new version is working fine. Maybe I'll update sooner than I thought!

I had no issues whatsover installing Version 9! I uninstalled Version 8 with the help of RevoUninstaller (I really like RevoU) :D

You will find the install of Version 9 to be very easy! ;) All the updates were simple and easy! :D (Update/System Scan).

No issues with WinDef. at this time to report! :D

I saw the same posts on the Avira forums concerning some initial problems with version 9, so I'm leaning towards waiting a few days before updating hoping they'll work out those early bugs.

Because I did a quick scan with it just for you. And it worked. WinDef seriously does nothing. Has never picked anything up for me. I'm sure WinDef will pick something major up, but I'm a safe user online. Plus if something bypasses me, I got Avira, SAS and MBAM backing me up.

Mmm...can anyone tell me what's the best course of action that I should take when Avira encounters a virus? Quarantine? Rename? Delete? I know what all these do but I'm not sure if one is better than the other.

I tend to think 'Delete' would be the better option because I wouldn't want a harmful file sticking around in my computer.

I always use the 'delete' option. Though, I just looked it up...

"When my antivirus detects a virus it ask me if I want to quarantine, delete, or heal. I got a virus recently and I quarantined the virus is this good or bad?

You did the right thing. You should always “quarantine” or put it in the “vault” depending on which anti-virus program you use but it all works the same. So why not just delete the virus you ask? Good question. When a virus is quarantined it can not harm your computer. The reason why you do not want to remove a virus right away is because anti-virus programs sometimes give false positives results and mistakes can happen. I’ve heard a lot of stories where people were installing legit software or files on their computer and their anti-virus program detected it as a virus. So by quarantining a virus you can easily undo any mistakes that may happen.

Sometimes certain program files may be flagged as a virus. So before you delete any suspected virus you should always quarantine it for about a month or so just to be sure everything is still working good."

I know, nor does MBAM, but MBAM has picked up some nasties in the past that WinDef hasn't. WinDef=phail.

For those with the update/reboot issues; did you modify avnotify.exe's permissions at all to get rid of the nag pop-up? I just came across this on the avira forums and for one person undoing the modification helped. It's worth a try.

Everytime I tried to perform a system scan, it gives me an error near the end. It is something similar to the one posted on this link http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=85713. Anyone experiencing the same issue? This had never happen in version 8. I already reinstall it twice but to no avail. Should I revert back to the previous version? Thanks.

Avira is the latest anti virus software .

it has many new features to remove the viruses.

it is better than the trend micro or avg.

it is the best one today.

Hey guys, I have a questions about Avira, which I've never tried before. I like having A/V software on my system, but I don't like them always running in the background. Can I fully disable it from starting at boot, and simply run it when I want to?

    Thanks!

You should not disable the real time protection (Avira - Guard) from starting up at boot. That's the whole purpose of running an antivirus software.
If you disable it, you won't protected in real time (access files, browsing, etc).
