^Everyone was pissed about that single core in the Nexus S... That BGR article only proves that the Hummingbird is very much worthy of the Nexus title. And also, it seems like LG has a decent software developer... and they can write an optimized driver! I'm impressed. Motorola shows their rear once again. Ugh.
About the LTE rollout, I'm not sure that's a good thing. I mean sure, they'll have Russia blanketed, but how does that work?! I iz comfuzed.

From what I read, basically the four networks all contribute financially so that Yota ( who have had WiMax and WiMax handsets much longer than Sprint) can build a nationwide LTE network, then they all have the option to buy a 25% stake in Yota.
To be honest, I think that it's actually a brilliant idea. I'd love it if all the UK networks were to combine their efforts so that a blanket 4G network could be rolled out across the UK.
I think, in retrospect, if people had been able to predict the success of/demand for mobile phones, that maybe in the UK we'd possibly have a nationalised network with all providers acting as MVNOs. I think it'd be better for competition in some ways and would have resulted in generally better coverage. -
Whats the difference between the Vibrant 3G and 4G? I just bought a 4G, and I'm wondering how it compares my 3G?
-
-
Thanks +REP, so basically it has an extra camera, 150mah bigger battery, and 1GB of rom. What exactly does rom do? I know it stands for; read only memory.
-
It's your phone's internal memory (storage).
-
Yeah, ROM is the handset's internal memory.
The standard Galaxy S series have RAM, ROM, an internal memory card and a removable memory card.
The big difference, the one that the '4G' is in aid of, is the support for 21Mbps HSDPA speeds. -
Ah so my Pre-Paid Sim will be useless for 4G. Thats ok, I found the phone for less than $50 more than a regular Vibrant. It comes with Inception on a Micro SD, hopefully it will play in full screen.
Really its not much of an upgrade over the 3G. But, I like the extra battery capacity. I could probably just buy a 4G battery and put it in the 3G though.
EDIT: Inception doesn't run full screen:
-
Hole scrap, the LG is ruling!
Is the Samsung Nexus S different to the Galaxy S in any way?! -
WP Clock!
It's a live wallpaper.
-
I use that on my nook color instead of using widgets!

Only 1GB? The standard Galaxy S (and the Captivate) have 2GB. The way Samsung does it is MoviNAND. Basically it's NAND memory over an eMMC bus... so it identifies as SD memory, but physically the memory is on the CPU die. It is originally 16GB with 2GB reserved for ROM and 128MB for hardware provisioning, in addition to the 384MB of physical LPDDR1 RAM.
It sounds complicated but it's really not, especially since it's all on one die.
The major hardware is exactly the same. The only things that are different are the radios... WiFi, BT, GSM, UMTS. <-- Those are laid out differently in the Nexus S and the Bluetooth is v2.1+EDR whereas on the regular Galaxy S and Captivate it's Bluetooth 3.0. Google kept 2.1+EDR for compatibility reasons.
Nice!! It's great to have all those extra pixels over the Magic isn't it?! And I like the density... what is that? 200? -
Oh is it ever! I can never go back to the magic now.
Just been flashing a clean rom on it for sell. It's at 190 (from 240 default), haven't really tried anything lower yet, I am content.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Do your apps scale with the density? -
Most of them do, the occasional one doesn't. Such as this basic OCtranspo (3rd party ottawa city transit) app. Oh and dialer doesn't scale too well either (the numberpad itself), but it looks ok.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
^Well that's better than TouchWiz scales... Ugh. When I shrink my density all my stuff shrinks and moves to the upper left side. You could go into DialerTabActivity.apk, decompile, and enlarge those phone key PNG's and make it look normal... even at 180.
-
I might have to try that at some point when I have more time.
Yeah density settings don't seem to play well with manufacturer's UI at all. I have heard disastrous results with Sense 2.1. (btw i am using CM7 nightlies + launcher pro)
-
Manufacturer UI's FTL! imo
-
@Jason: do you know much about Live Wallpapers or could you point me in the right direction?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Not particularly... Though I've used this a time or two.
-
-
I love that Plug In Launcher app
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You know, I've thought that for a long time now. To be so good at general web searches, they suck with market searches. I can type in the EXACT name of an app, and it will be several results, if not whole pages, down the list.
-
Saw that an Engadget today and started using it. Makes you wonder why google doesn't integrate this. It's so convenient.
-
I wouldnt be surprised if they did in one of the next releases
-
So why when I try to flash two different kernels and when clockworks try to flash.. I see a status bar.. and it quickly disappear and nothing happens
So I am unable to flash a kernel at all
I cleared the cache.. the delvik cache.. what am I doin wrong? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
What device? What kernel? And what exactly does clockworkmod say? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Are you NAND unlocked, or fully unlocked? Usually if clockwork can't install the kernel it'll tell you the reason, or tell you that installation was aborted. -
I dont know.. I am perm rooted though, how would unlock the nand?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I'm not too up on the HTC devices lately. I'm a Samsung guy...
Johnny T should be able to help you though, as he's the HTC guy.
-
Have you flashed kernels before? Which version of clock work recovery are you using? You have S-OFF correct? (check via fastboot)
-
Yes I have S-off and no this is my first time.. I'm running version 2.5.1.8
-
-
I rooted my first phone today!
-
^
Nice! You'll love your phone even more now
-
I may be asking for help from you in the near future
-
Yeah, I don't get the obsession about not talking about the competition. It's important to discuss and know about all platforms, not just the one of your choosing. It's what being a good consumer is all about, knowing all your options and choosing the best one for you, regardless of allegiances.
Very nice, I'll have to give that a try one day!
2nded, that looks very nice. Good price too.
-
I know - it's like 25% cheaper than the pre-order price for the 3G Xoom over here.
The dual microSD slots and 9,000mAh battery are both really neat touches, plus the rest of the specs are very solid.
Not 100% sure about the clear back, it's mostly covered by the battery, which kinda ruins the effect. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I commented on that at Engadget... and yes... I want one too!!
EDIT: It supports USB Host out of the box!
I'm here every evening.
Congrats! You can do quite a bit with a rooted Android phone! -
Update to a newer version first (IIRC there is a newer one for your phone). Which rom/kernel combo are you using? I am on a similar DesireHD FYI.
-
Just have to figure out how to get one shipped over here...
-
Anyone know if it's possible to set the volume on an Android handset on a per-app basis?
A bit like Win7 allows you to adjust the volume for each program. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope, Android's audio stack isn't that advanced. It might could be done with an app though? Maybe similar to the app that launches the music player when you plug in headphones.... just when you start an app, the audio level automatically changes. -
Yeah, no, I knew it wasn't possible just with stock Android.
It wasn't an issue before but I've moved my voicemail to a third-party supplier and the Android app's volume s set by the 'media volume'.
So now I have to start turning it up to full volume to hear the messages then back down again so that the volume of various games isn't too high - not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless. -

About dang time right? -
CM7 RC2 (2.3.3) is out for various devices!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Exactly. The app functionality has been there for a while, but Google just flipped the backend on.
Just waiting on the commit to hit the i9000 repo... -
The link is nuked, everyone flocking to get CM7. lol.
