Over-priced.
Wouldn't pay anything like that much for it myself. -
Thats more than I paid for my laptop
I wouldn't pay that much, but if your offering to get me one Step..... -

I find setting a wallpaper for the Motorola Defy can be a problem as it streches the image across multiple screens.
Just found this free app on the market it`s called " dodol wallpaper maker" it works really well, give it a go
https://market.android.com/details?id=demo.galmoori.wallpapereditor&feature=s earch_result -
Can anyone tell me what was the app someone mentionned that would help you schedule your homework and school stuff?
-
Maybe in my next lifetime when I'm reincarnated as an Arab Sheik
You need your wallpaper to be twice as wide as screen - so for the Defy it needs to be 960 wide and 854 tall.
It's like that with all Android handsets because the wallpaper moves as you swipe between the various homescreens. -
Hey guys, Just wanted to say that I've joined the Android fam. As of yesterday, I officialy gave up my 4+ year old LG CU500 for the Samsung Captivate. This thing has a gorgeous screen, and ultimately, that was the big selling point to me. I wasn't sure I'd like the touch screen for texting, but have grown to like it in only a day. For the most pat anyway. Coming from a 4 year old flip phone, this is a pretty nice improvement. I got mine in an Outter Box, as well as an invisible shield on it.
One question, is there a way to overclock these phones? I only want to do it to do it basically. Other than messing around, I'd leave it stock in that respect. -

Ahh.. another Captivate user. JIC anyone was wondering, I had to get me another under warranty.
So I'm off the i4, and back to my Captivate!
And YES. There is a way to overclock the Captivate. I'm running 1.4GHz right now, completely stable... only thing is it likes to eat the battery under CPU intensive apps. -
Yea, I figured that the OCed CPU would drain the battery. I've already had to charge it once today since I have been playing with it, have it to bright settings ect. Right now I'm looking around on some youtube videos and AKAskriller.com. This phone is awesome!
AKAskriller looks good, but I'm not sure I want to pay $5/mo just for some custom stuff. Where should I be looking?
Hmm also having trouble connecting the phone as a HDD to the computer. I want to transfer over music and some pics and such. I installed drivers, clicked "mount" on the phone, but not having much luck. Ideas? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
You shouldn't ever have to pay for custom stuff... I'm a ROM dev for the Captivate. Or you could look here:
Samsung Captivate - xda-developers
For the USB mount, unplug the phone, go to Settings-->Applications-->Development-->Check USB Debugging. Now when you plug your phone in, look in the notification drop down and you can use the USB storage mode.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I'd have to be drooling benjamin's to be able to afford that thing. That's ridiculous! -
yeah if i had that much money i wouldnt be buying a phone anyway
-
Jason, do you have any idea roughly what price the Galaxy S2 will retail at compared to the original?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Retail should be about $600-$650 here. So you can count on the online retailers charging $675-$700.
The cheapest you'll find it off-contract will be the carriers. -
How much are the existing Galaxy S handsets?
-
Around $200 here in US. On contract.
Off contract is around $450 -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
^Yep. Captivate off-contract is $499 at AT&T retail. -
That's cheaper than you'd be able to buy one SIM-free over here.
Still, not as cheap as I could buy one SIM-free... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Hmm... I bet you could get a good price on a GS2! -

Just started using LCD density, it's great. Wish I used it earlier.

anybody thinking of getting the Xoom??
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I was, until I used one.
Honeycomb is nice, but the tablet is rather meh.
-
I'm much more interested in that ODROID tablet I linked to a few pages back.
Though I'm also prepared to wait and see what comes of the announcements at CTIA at the end of the month.
Anyway, on a separate note, I just received my 16GB class10 microSD card for my Defy and it's occurred to me that simply swapping the cards over may not be such a great idea, due to the apps I have on the card itself.
If I were to copy the entire contents of my existing card over onto the new card, would everything show up just fine on my Defy? -
Isn't it great?
What's wrong with the tablet itself?
I had no problem doing just that when I switched from my stock class4 -> class 6 8GB card. -
If anyone hasn't been reading android news a New dev just came out with a WORKING gps tether app that's designed for use with the nook color yet works other devices that are missing a gps TetherGPS - Android app on AppBrain
there is a lite version you can grab that you can test to make sure you can get it to work... i now have a 7in gps! -
Question, how do I take screenshots on my Samsung captivate, and are there benchmarks apps? I love benching but those smartphone stuff is totally new to me. Still trying to figure out what apps and widgets i want or need.
-
I use an app call "shootme ". Would link you but I am on my phone.
-
All LCD Density does is make everything smaller, whats the big deal?
-
Take a second to think about it, what can you do with the extra screen space?
-
I've never felt I needed more space on my screen.
And if all you do is make everything smaller, surely it loses definition?
As for ShootMe, it's randomly stopped working for me. -
Squint more to read it?
-
Thanks. Im making up time at me army reserve unit and the don't have me doing anything so Im playing on NBR on my phone trying to learn about it.
-
Whether it loses "definition " you be the judge, I have posted screen shots and pictures in this thread.
Considering the screen's pixel density it makes no difference. Personally I prefer to get more out of my investments, what's the point if I buy a phone with a higher resolution screen just to have the same number of icons/widgets? I use a lot of widgets, and I'd rather not have to scroll through 5 different home screens.
Each to their own. -
Ill have to give it a shot for the hell of it when i get my phone. (USPS being slow as hell so idk when ill have it
)
-
As you say, each to their own.
My only comment would be that I don't see the point of cramming my home screen full of shortcuts when I have an appdrawer that does the job perfectly well.
I much prefer a cleaner look to my homescreen. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I just tried the create a folder option, it works quite well, it only takes 2 clicks to open any of my apps inside
-
Maybe I just don't have as many apps as everyone else.
I takes like a second to find something in the app drawer. -
yeah lcd density is pretty handy.
PowerAmp - most versatile music player ive used -
Widgets != app shortcuts. I have calender, bus timetables, data usage...etc displayed on home screens.
-
Yeah, I know that.
But your last screenshot had a couple of widgets and a load of shortcuts on the screen.
By not having any shortcuts on my homescreen, I have plenty of space for whatever widgets I feel like using. -
I use 3 home screens, the other two are pretty much widgets only.
-
What is the latest firmware version for the Captivate? Mine says it's running 2.1update1. Not sure if it's current and googling I see theres 2.2, or 2.3, where would I find that?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
If you insist on stock.... Try here.
With custom, you can WiFi tether for free, have all apps displayed in the market, be able to sideload 3rd party apps, have much more choice in kernels, have voodoo sound.... I could go on, but just VooDoo Sound is worth going custom for. -
Lol, Sounds like the time I was trying to learn linux systems. This is all new to me, and one of the reasons I held on to my antique
flip phone for 4+ years.
How would I go about going with the custom stuff? Would it all be on the Samsung Captivate - xda-developers forum you pointed me to earlier? I suppose I'll have to do some research
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Here is a link to my site for detailed instructions...
And if you decide to do it... Here is a link to my latest XWJS5 2.2.1 ROM.
*Sidenote* JIC anyone is wondering, Dorian was my birthname. My parents changed it when I was 2.
-
I am so new with these smart phones I feel like I don't know squat. But I keep plugging away. I don't know what the real difference between a widget and a short cut other than maybe a widget is active?
I have the Epic 4G. When Sprint started the 2.2.1 update I went and downloaded it from their site onto my notebook. I pulled the SD out of the phone put zip in the root. Turned phone on with several buttons. Scrolled to update zip and started. All seems good I have flash which was the only real upgrade I could tell. I don't think I even lost data except passwords. Not photos or phone numbers.
'
What is this "root" ing and USB debugging was it necessary?
I used to have a weather channel temp icon up at the top. I now have the app but no icon. This was not because of 2.2.1 I did a factory restore before and can't seem to get back up there. Any ideas? -
That's basically it.
A widget is interactive and quite often self-contained, whereas a shortcut only serves to open up something else.
Widgets on Android are just like Konfabulator/Yahoo/Mac widgets/Windows 'Gadgets'.
I'd assumed it was the last owner of the site.
I thought that was how the internet worked, if you want to run a website on a particular subject, you have to find someone with a site like that already, kill them and assume their place online...
