Anyone tried Apex Launcher?
I saw this comparison between it and Nova Launcher and, on paper at least, it seems to be the better of the two.

Thank you for the correction. It's a shame your experience with Motorola was not as up to par; I've had the original Atrix and Atrix 2, and other than being slightly more difficult to root/unlock, I can't say I've had any outstanding problems with them.

Yea, LTE selection on AT&T is pretty bad. Main reason you don't see LTE in smaller phones is because of the size of the battery pack required. LTE in it's current generation is a MAJOR battery hog.
I tried it not too long ago. IMHO, it just didn't feel right. It's like it had too much modification going on. I went back to Nova.
Well, aside from NAND failure, and the front glass coming unglued on my Atrix, I can say that I've never had an outstanding problems with it either... but then again I've never had a problem junior with my Samsung devices. They may feel cheap because they're lightweight, but they have outstanding build quality. I can't say the same about any of the Motorola products I've owned... Atrix, Droid X, Backflip, Droid 2 (briefly). Motorola ALWAYS compromises on something. With the Atrix it was the camera sensor and screen panel. With the X it was the battery/battery door. With the Backflip and Droid 2 it was a litany of things. -

well....i wound up going with the Gnex. Finally able to sit down and toy around with it after running around all day. its on the charger at the moment but ive already downloaded the Gnex toolkit from xda...just need to figure out which rom/kernel to try out.
Pretty happy with the choice. felt a lot more comfortable in my hand than the razr maxx. -
Go with AOKP!
-
linky?
can't seem to find it on xda -
Samsung phones are built with high quality. I have dropped my galaxy S phone 3-5 times and no scratch, dent, or broken glass (Gorilla Glass).
I would buy another Samsung phone again given the chance. -
I went to look at phones in the stores today and have a general question since Android phones are going to the larger side. I'm still using an old Nokia so this question is just out of ignorance.
The Vivid and Galaxy S II were at the limit of how large a phone I could operate with one hand. Unfortunately pretty much everything with higher resolution is a bit larger. So how much of an issue is this going to be in the real world and how much phone operation needs to be done one handed day to day? When making a call I noticed the contacts end up being on top which seems like it might be a problem with the larger phones.
Have those of you with 720p screens noticed a huge difference from qHD? There was also a Note there and while the screen was gorgeous I didn't see a huge difference from the Vivid's qHD screen for just browsing. The 720p LG IPS screen was rather unimpressive after reading great reviews. This is coming from a very novice smartphone user. -
Hey guys,
I finally got my TF Prime yesterday
Its a beautiful tablet.
I have a request for suggestions (I know some have been answered before, kinda, but still...):
I'm looking for a good PDF reader - I checked Adobe but can I make highlights / annotate / comment on a pdf file, with Adobe Reader? One of my friend suggested "Repligo reader". Which one should I go for?
Second, I need a good office compatible app - There is Polaris office installed in the tablet. But I need an app that lets me open / edit both .doc/.ppt/.xls as well as .docx/.pptx/.xlsx formats. Again, the same friend suggested me "QuickOffice Pro HD". Is there anything else thats better than these?
PS., I don't mind paying for any good apps..
Thanks in advance and cheers. -

will do. i was actually looking at the franco.kernel last night in the big LTE roms/kernels/recoveries thread due to the comments about battery life and performance for battery hungry users.
should i flash aokp before franco.kernel or does it not matter? -
I've been using that exact combination (AOKP & franco.kernel) ever since I got my Nexus and it's been great for me for battery life.
-
milestone 2 or r107?
-
I'm actually quite far behind - milestone2 for AOKP and Nightly 13.1 for franco.kernel.
Been meaning to catch up for a while.
Personally, I'd stick to the milestone releases for both but that's just me. -
i feel so lost on xda. i can't find a gapps download at all.
edit: nevermind. i found it.
edit2: hrm...couldnt boot into CWM from rom manager even though i flashed CWM through rom manager last night. gave me a red triangle and a dead droid when entering recovery.
edit3: re-flashed CWM through rom manager and was able to get into CWM recovery and now....PINK UNICORN!?
edit4: grr...2 battery pulls after flashing AOKP its still stuck on the boot animation. -
The AT&T HTC One X's CPU performance is pretty darned fast, if benchmarks are accurate. The benchmark used is developed by Qualcomm, though

Well Im coming up on 1.5 years with my HTC evo shift and while I still love it, it sure is showing some age. My worries are the lack of physical keyboard phones on the market now and Im wondering if the trend is going for 100% market to "slab" type phones. As of now the most powerful slider/physical keyboard android device sprint has is the one Im using(which also is no longer on the sprint site) which is pretty sad for when I have to upgrade. Granted Im not going for a new phone until january 2013, but still its not looking good for those of us that prefer real keyboards...
Might have to look into blackberrys...Im scared. -
Flash AOKP first since it has its own kernel. I bought the franco.kernel updater since you can upgrade the kernels within AOKP without wiping anything.
-
I would except for the fact that the version for the Nexus is more expensive than the ones for the Note and the LG P500 and on principle that strikes me as wrong.

Codename Android = Awesome ROM.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's a fork on AOKP, but I agree... it IS a good ROM. -
"A fork on AOKP"? lol
So much customization and settings

I've never understood the difference between AOKP and CNA...
Can someone enlighten me please?

4.0.4 sources are now on AOSP rep!
Here's an unofficial changelog : 4.0.4 Unofficial Changelog *Update2 02/05* - xda-developers -
Which in turn is a CM fork, right?
I'd been considering Codename Android because it apparently has a 'quick charge' toggle which allows the handset to charge faster from sources that otherwise only charge at USB rate.
Apparently it makes the Touchstone mods charge much faster.
But having just updated my Nexus to AOKP milestone4, I'm not sure if I want go through the hassle of starting all over again - especially when AOKP has so many useful options. -
I feel ya man, there isn't really a lot of choices, particularly at the high end.Sphinx said: ↑Well Im coming up on 1.5 years with my HTC evo shift and while I still love it, it sure is showing some age. There's definitely a trend toward slab, many desire as thin a form factor as possible, something a physical keyboard doesn't always allow for.
I'm hoping that Android handsets will still exist in the future + I hope that Windows Phone will continue to have a variety of form factors: if you were willing to switch platforms, the HTC Arrive has an awesome keyboard, near equivalent to the legendary Touch Pro 2. -
Can anyone recommend an ICS ROM for an i9100 (international GSM version)?
Really it's for my friend and she doesn't do any tinkering with her phone so I'm guessing something pretty basic/stable and that's light/good on battery life. -
Yup it does! It will come in handy when you dont have a plug handy.Step666 said: ↑Which in turn is a CM fork, right?

^That is a really good one...
AOKP is a mix of CM and AOSP. Audio is a big part from CM, since it brings DSPManager with it. There's a lot more though.Step666 said: ↑Which in turn is a CM fork, right?Click to expand... -
Today's Amazon's free AOTD is a fast food calorie counting app. From what I can tell it has every major fast food chain in the country with a breakdown of calories, nutrition stats etc.
-
The first calorie counter app I've ever downloaded could do this and more (I believe it was Calorie Counter by FatSecret). Bar code scanner, restaurants, supermarket, individual ingredients, weight tracker/food and exercise diary and more. And it was free.Rodster said: ↑Today's Amazon's free AOTD is a fast food calorie counting app. From what I can tell it has every major fast food chain in the country with a breakdown of calories, nutrition stats etc.Click to expand...

CM9 now has a working video cam
CM9's only missing features are no Audio Docking, TV out isn't fully working and there's no FM radio. BUT THERE IS NOW A WORKING 1080P VIDEOCAM!

Indeed! He started digging into the .so files real hard, and found out that the reason why the camera was crashing and wasn't recording was because there was missing code and there was no link between the camera's HAL and interface and the kernel. Plus, there was a FIMC scaler issue, which caused an overflow in the buffer because the kernel was thinking it would only get 480p, but when switched to 720p or 1080p, it received all the massive info and overflowed, resulting in an app crash, and a kernel crash aswell.H.A.L. 9000 said: ↑^Nice!! I actually learned a bit from being in the dev thread
Mmm, I've been thinking of getting a 2000MAh battery... But the prob is, I already have a custom 2430mAh battery, and it wasn't much help for me... -
anyone else have issues when your phone is plugged into a vehicles AUX input listening to streaming radio or music on the phone, that whenever you get a notification, the audio clip for that notification plays out of both your phones speaker, and the car speakers at the same time?
This is happening on my galaxy nexus with AOKP and the latest franco.kernel. -

Hi,
For those who use QuickOffice HD Pro, are you able to see images inserted into word documents (docx) without any problem?
I've tried and certain images do not show up in quick office pro hd. The images are blocked out with a red x at the top right corner.
Is there anyway I can get to display those images? |
Thanks -
Hey guys, I have a Samsung Captivate running ICS. This thing sucks battery like no other. Although I use my phone a lot. I use it for Facebook, NBR, as a remote control for my Cable T.V. box, Remote for my Blu-ray player, Youtube, Pandora ect.
Right now my battery sucks. It's the stock 1500mAh battery. I've been looking into getting this:
Extended Samsung Galaxy S Captivate Battery by Seidio
Amazon.com: Seidio Innocell 3300mAh Extended Life Battery for Samsung Captivate: Cell Phones & Accessories
Anyone use this before? Here is the thing. I'm a freak about keeping my toys in mint condition. Right now my Captivate has an Invisible Shield on the screen, and a two piece OtterBox which has a Silicon case on the phone, and a plastic protective case on it. I use this to keep it in mint condition, but with the extended battery, am worried that the invisible shield will come off, and the phone get scratched. Anyone use this battery with a case??
Extended 3300mAh Battery for Samsung Captivate:
EDIT: Here is a 3500mAh I found. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QV9U6O/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk Looks like cheap crap though. My goal is to have a phone that is well protected and has the most battery life I can swing. -
I really advise you against purchasing such battery... The case is just so ugly...!DR650SE said: ↑Hey guys, I have a Samsung Captivate running ICS. This thing sucks battery like no other. I was surprised to see Mugen perform that badly from his tests. Almost makes me doubt his results as Mugen batteries have a good reputation (from what I've seen) despite being pricey.[>>ahl395<<];8412649 said:Probably not actually 2430mAh

Yeah I know. OEM is the best, but Sedio looks like some of the lesser evils at least.Convel said: ↑I was surprised to see Mugen perform that badly from his tests. The problem is it's just one person testing a fairly haphazard selection of batteries.
I would say you're fairly safe with Mugen or Seidio but any cheap batteries on eBay are liable to be garbage.
edit: it seems that indoors, sat on the other side of the room from the window, my Nexus can still get a GPS fix - that's pretty impressive... -
I think I may be going with the 3300mAh battery for the Captivate. Need the battery life at this point.
Also, anyone know of a version of ICS for the Captivate that doesn't have haptic feedback issues? Anytime I type in Dophin HD such as here on NBR, the haptic feedback is soo laggy it drives me crazy. I may just see if I can turn it off as it seems worthless at this point. I may go back to Froyo as well. Battery life seemed a lot better. Is there anywhere to get a stock Samsung Froyo/Gingerbread .ROM?
