How Android & iOS Have Grown Up | Infographic - UltraLinx
Very Interesting

Is 4.0.4 noticeably smoother than 4.0.3? Not that I have any issues with 4.0.3, but some commentaries made it sound like it is. Just curious.
-
Yea its ugly, but I need the battery life and haven't seen any other decent looking batteries or reviews, though its not cheap.
-
If you don't care about the desiggn, then go for it!
Yes, quite. At least CM9 in its 3103 codeworkx build.
Browser performance is much better, smoother, and overall UI feel is smooth as silk.
I don't quite remember, what phone do you have? -
man getting tethering to work on my gnex LTE has been a pain in the rear. for some reason, pdanet (wired tether) wont connect to my phone unless i reboot it through fastboot mode, nor will my phone do anything except charge when connecting it to the computer unless i reboot the phone while its connected to the computer first. does anyone else experience this?
-
I just realized a solution to my case issue with the Seidio Extended battery. I'm going to take my Otterbox, measure it, and cut out a hole in the back for the battery. That way I still have the protection around the phone, and can fit the case on it. Just gotta measure before I cut the plastic case and the silicon case. Hopefully it works out as planned...battery should be here by the end of the week.
-
Iunno, I just use the built in tethering AOKP (presumably the same as the tethering in stock ICS, except with subscription requirements removed).
-
so I was trying to figure out what AOKP is and this is what I found...

i wonder if i've got the wrong driver installed for my phone then, or if franco.kernel wiped out something important.
which kernel are you on and do you have to reboot into fastboot in order for your phone to be recognized by your computer? -
Anyone know of any new devices coming out on Verizon? I have to switch to Verizon in the next few months.
- Galaxy Journal (verizon variant of the note) old hardware, not great resolution
- Moto Droid Fighter ? Not a fan of moto blur, anyone have good experience with moto devices?
- Any others people might've heard of? I've heard talk of an HTC fireball but that it might only be a budget phone relation to the incredible series. Theres the possible Galaxy s3 but not a lot if talk about that, or if Verizon will skip on it again...

"In summary, HTC has rejected Googles latest Android aesthetic in favor of a tired UI design whose iconography is over two years old in some parts, it has layered in change for changes sake, it has made some aspects of the UX worse, and its brought no substantial improvements to the experience of using an Android phone."

Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note and a RAZR MAXX.
I loaded up the ICS leak for the RAZR and surprisingly the UI is practically AOSP, minus some changes in the Settings menu and unfortunately the ten percent battery indicator is still there. Otherwise, it looks good. Battery life is fantastic; I have been off the charger for nearly 12 hours and I'm at 92%. -
How is development on the razr? I've always had HTC. How do you like moto blur?

I'm using the stock AOKP kernel, though I may try franco in a while. Everything works just fine.
-
slapshot, what kind of battery life are you getting out of your Vivid on ICS? It's a rather heavy phone, does it ever feel cumbersome in extended use?
I might still get a Vivid if the One X, Xperia Ion and S3 are too big to use practically. -
Out of interest, did anyone see any of the coverage of this?
Almost tempted to get a GSM RAZR Developer edition and have the battery upgraded... -
The weight isn't bad at all. I actually prefer it compared to the Galaxy S2. I like to feel like I'm holding something important. Battery life is pretty good on ICS, I get close to a full day on mid-high usage. Others have gotten even better results out of certain cheap (<$15) extended batteries. Very good stock experience. Just not a whole lot of development if you're heavy on flashing ROMs a lot.

Hey guys, how would I go about renaming shortcuts on ICS? Maybe a dumb question.
Heres what I want. I just installed Tapatalk on my Samsung Captivate running ICS (CM9 I believe). I wanted to add shortcuts on one of my homescreen, but I'd like to rename these. So things like Alienware M17x and Alienware M18x don't looks the same. The last few letters are cut off, so the look like the same link.
Any help is appreciated. -
.
Does anybody have an ICS Messaging app apk?
If your running Nova Launcher (like you should be
) or even on many others, long hold the icon and select edit, there you can rename it
-
thanks for the info...i may just stick with franco since the only times i ever really tether is when my internet is down at home.
I can maybe pull the mms.apk off my aokp rom if you're interested?

Plus it's completely free. -
Thanks
Not sure if the bug I have is the ROM itself or just the messaging apk.
I tried Apex for a little while. Tbh I barely saw any difference
But Apex scaled my icons differently and spaced them out more (which I didnt prefer) Maybe it was just a setting.
-
no problem, let us know if it fixes things for you.

Thanks. Running it now and just spent some time getting everything how I want it. Nice launcher.

I've had my Galaxy Nexus for nearly 5 months, and my biggest complaint is not the camera, or the build quality, or the battery life.
It's the loud speaker. The poor little thing gets muffled by the tiniest little thing, and even when it isn't, I can barely hear it. I've missed calls because I haven't heard it ringing, and haven't felt my pants vibrating. Maybe I'm just used to the gusto and clarity with which my Droid delivered audio. -
Hah, to each their own. I disagree with their assertions regarding improvements to the experience, it looks more cohesive than stock ICS and HTC's social network integration has always been top notch.
Edit: also the sense changes to things like adding widgets is much preferred, more like honeycomb than ICS -
What are some good launchers? I want something that's reliable yet has a good unique look to it. I just installed nova yesterday and like it. But going through and reorganizing all my Widgets is a pain.
I like that Nova has the option to backup your settings as far as Widgets go.

I am using CheckROM with neak kernel on my sgs2. It's smooth, fast, supports underclocking and undervolting, my sd card reader and thumb drives work on it, all my programs work flawlessly, and I get one days worth of battery on medium to heavy use.
I've been reading about ics a lot, and I can't find any compelling feature to switch to it except the absence of shutter lag.
What are you guys reasons for upgrading to ics aside from the fact that it's newer?

For me...
It's mostly the fact that ICS is almost a complete re-think on how the foundation of Android works. It's more efficient, smoother, more cohesive, and lots of other reasons. Plus they've finally gotten kinetic scrolling down... it has a MUCH better, more natural gravity. -
Honestly, Samsung goof'd ICS. They broke the USB drivers and the kernel is someway aswell. Plus, now even if there's a hard brick on the phone, it'll still show the boot logo, and thay confuses the hell out of me
If that was a bit confusing : what I ment is that, before, of the kernel was corrupted, I could flash a new one without any issue. That was on GB. But now, on ICS, if the kernel os corrupted, I can't even flash a bootloader : get's stuck at NAND Write Start... -
I'll ask again... I thought ICS was supposed to improve battery life but from what I hear/read about the Galaxy Nexus, there is not a notable improvement, does anyone know why?

I really don't understand what you by that complete rethink.
Most of what you mentioned are cosmetic 'improvements '. However my rom is super smooth.
Is there any other compelling reason aside from nicer scrolling?

Another thing I like about ICS, which is minor, is the ability to create groups on the home screen. I have a home screen with Webpage bookmarks. One Group for NBR bookmarks, another for Tech|Inferno bookmarks, another for Folding@home Stats pages, ect. I'll post a screenshot as soon as I get home to show what I mean. It helps to organize the bookmarks for quick access without cluttering the home screens.
Update: Pics below.

Are those the same in your spoiler pics? This is one reason why I decided not to get an iPad. I like to be able to customize my stuff.
-
Always, CDMA sucks for development.
Custom ROMs FTW
You wont have to wait for ICS that way.

Not quite seeing the connection to the UK?
-
just slapped in my 3800 mAh seidio extended battery for my gnex. the added weight and thickness isnt a problem for me as it feels much more secure in my hands now.
-
Yea, was able to update after I got out of work in the car before I headed home. I just now put that I updated it in the post. But after loading the pics up I forgot to mention that I update
-
Well no matter what country, CDMA sucks for development.
-
Nice! My 3300mAh Seidio just came in just now for my Samsung Captivate. I need to cut my Otterbox case to fit around the battery cover. A project for tonight. I want the battery live and protection since I couldn't find a case made for the Captivate with the extended battery.
Going to be a nice upgrade from the old stock 1500mAh battery.
-
..........................................................I don't even...
But, but, the UK doesn't have CDMA, neither does the sim free GSII. ಠ_ಠ -
I think I threw up in my mouth a little...

Hey... I like kickstands. Esp with these super huge screened phones.

It's not the kickstand I'm objecting to

post pics of it when you're done?
i had to get an extended battery, otherwise i couldnt get it to last 6 hours with heavy use on 4g.
