Indeed! And it came from AT&T like that!
Irony abounds.

Wow... That is stupid lol. They're lucky it's an Exynos device and they didn't completely brick the phone...
You're not really "harmed" though, CM10 is nearing nightlies, and there's lets of ROMs out there so... But nonetheless it's really stupid on ATT's side to flash another phone's firmware. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed.
I spoke with some old contacts at AT&T and got another and a Galaxy S III (Red). The SII I have is going back tomorrow and the new ones are coming supposedly by Friday. -
Wait... You got the GSIII for free? O.O
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Lolyes.
AT&T gives a decent freebie every once in a while. Especially since I have picture evidence of what they sent me. They were "embarrassed". -
Two words for you :
*censored*
You're one lucky guy
Now you got a GSIII, the king of phones. Add CM10 to it, (
http://developer.clockworkmod.com/downloads/51/3549/cm-10-20120814-EXPERIMENTAL-i9300-CODEWORKX.zip) and it's unbeatable.
-
I think next time you should bargain a bit more and get free phones for everyone
-
All of us in this thread for starters!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Not the i9300. It's the SGH-i747. The Qualcomm S4 based SIII, not the Exynos version.
But hey... it's free.
I'm sure there's a loophole somewhere that will do just that. There's probably 685,926 different billing options in AT&T's system. -

Anyone with a Verizon Galaxy S III?

Pfft, the Galaxy S3, that's so yesterday evening...
Xiaomi Phone 2 now official: 4.3-inch 720p IPS, quad core and Jelly Bean for just $310 -- Engadget
Quad-core Krait, 2GB of RAM, Sharp-manufactured 720p panel, 8MP BSI camera sensor ( anyone else thinking Sony?), 2,000mAh stock battery with optional 3,000mAh OEM extended battery. -
Quad core A15 Krait? I wonder how it will compare with a Exynos 5250 w/ T604.
-
Well, given that dual-core Kraits with the poorer GPU are about equal with the 4412, the quad-core model will hammer it.
As for the 5250, who knows. But until Samsung actually start putting it into devices, it doesn't really matter.
This is why a Note2 with the 4412 will be a massive mistake, because that would allow Samsung's competitors to overtake them - if a tiny little company like this can produce a handset like that, just think what HTC could do if they actually put a bit of effort in. -
The best thing Samsung could do is go woth the 5450 + T604, but I really doubt they will.
So wait, the S4 Krait is an A15 quad core, or A9? -
Theoretically, neither. It is heavily based on A15 specifications but doesn't quite match it.
-
Given how much more powerful it is than A9, I'd say it's got to be close enough to A15 performance that the 5250 being dual-core will not out-perform the quad-core Krait SoCs.
As for the 5450, HAL said a while back that the TDP on that is high enough that you can basically forget about it going into phones - tablets only. -

Well, well, well...
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
What have we here? -
Likely only for the Photon Q. They've announced that as officially their "first" device with a unlockable bootloader. Even though the OG Atrix IIRC was actually the first.
-
Hmmm... MIUI or Jelly Bean?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I had to stick with Jellybean for Google Now. It's just too good of a feature to pass up... that is until MIUI JB is out. It's actually a TINY ways from release on the Galaxy Nexus. Toro builds, anyway. -
I'm not too impressed with Google Now tbh
I'm liking MIUI but theres a few annoying bugs, now that JB is available... i think ill have to at least try it
lol
-
Jelly Bean.

Just put the cm10 preview on my i777. Seems to run really well

Jelly Bean it is, and damn am i liking it
The new pulldown bar is amazingly awesome, new lockscreen is cool, and i have to admit Google Now is pretty neat. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed. One major thing that I love about JB is that Google finally understands UI fonts. Roboto light in the new notification shade is just about perfect. I don't think they could have picked a better font.
But yea, wait till Google Now evolves a bit.

OK so I think maybe I should up late my kernel or O/S. Is there anything better and more recent for the AT&T Captivate? Here is a screen shot of what I currently have. H.A.L helped walk me through it last time.
Just wondering what the most complete and recent/best Kernel is for my phone. Is Jelly Bean available?
Sent from my Samsung Captivate/ICS using Tapatalk 2 -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
^I think ICS is the best for the Captivate. Jellybean really bogged mine down, though it was silky smooth in transitions. Things just took a lot longer to load and Google Now was "working", but extremely slow since the Captivate just doesn't have enough processing power.
You CAN update to a newer ICS build though. Updating CM9 is painless. Just download, install, wipe caches (NOT DATA), and reboot. All your stuff stays just the way it is.
Since I don't really think you're the type to flash a new update every few days, here's the stable version of CM9 that's out for the Captivate:
http://get.cm/get/3qy
That was built by the CM Buildbot on Aug. 10th. So it's pretty recent.

I'm looking for carrier suggestions. I need a provider that uses AT&T's network, and costs under $50 a month for at least 250 minutes, 250 texts, and 1GB(preferably 2GB's) of data.
I'm considering Straight Talk and AT&T Gophone. Does anyone have experience with using the $50 unlimited Gophone plan in a non AT&T phone? How strict are they with data usage? I don't use that much, but some days I rack up 200MB on YouTube. Usually only a few times a month though.

hey all,
i just bought my first ever smartphone, a brand-new HTC One S (the T-Mobile version) from eBay. given the fact that i'm a total n00b when it comes to smartphones, i'm asking for your help.
do i need the T-Mobile microSIM card ( link) or the T-Mobile SIM card activation kit ( link) if i decide to get a pre-paid plan from T-Mobile?
i'm sorry for the super-n00b question, but i really got confused by all the info i have found on the internet. also, please do let me know about anything else that you think i need to know about the service from T-Mobile/the phone/the SIM card/etc. -
You will need a microSIM card for the HTC One S.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
yes, thanks a lot
the problem is that T-Mobile does not offer microSIM card for pre-paid plan users, which means i have to cut this somehow!
-
-
I'd wager that if you spoke to them they would be able to send out a microSIM for a PAYG account.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
thanks Phistachio and Step666 for your help...very much appreciated.
the problem is T-Mobile USA does not sell microSIM cards for their pre-paid plans either through their online store or through phone orders, so one has to go to a retail T-Mobile store to buy one. i've heard that depending on the mood of the sales person, they will charge you $10 to $20 for one microSIM card! this is a ridiculous price, given that a regular pre-paid SIM card is available from T-Mobile US online store for just $0.99 (that is, less than a dollar).
i'm going to try the phone call method first, and if unsuccessful, go to our retail store. if they won't help, then i'm going to order one of the SIM card cutter that i've already found on amazon. -
As you may know, EA Mobile acquired Firemint a while back and merged it with IronMonkey, ending up with a company named Firemonkeys. That meant that the Real Racing franchise would be coming to Android and I think we can be pretty happy about that after seeing the announcement trailer that was published earlier this month.

I cut my T-Mobile prepaid sim, and used it for a while. After about two months, I went in the local T-Mobile store and asked for a replacement. They gave me a micro sim, and transfered eveything over in a matter of minutes.

For anyone with the GN, what JB ROMs have you tried? I'm waiting for AOKP since I'm currently using their stable ICS ROM. I see MIUI has released theirs, are there any others currently and which ones do you like?
-
Swype is pretty awesome.
That is all. -
Personally I prefer SwiftKey: Swype just seemed inefficient to me for short words, that make up the bulk of our regular speech. SwiftKey 3 has a beautiful interface, and I can type nearly as fast as I could on my BlackBerry! And, of course...
-
I like both
Swype is the best for one handed texting, hands (hand?) down. (And very good for small screen'd phones, where hitting individual keys can be difficult and cause alot of mistakes)
Otherwise, I find it faster to type with both thumbs using Swiftkey. -

i was lucky, i guess. T-Mobile had included a microSIM card in the box with the phone. everything is working fine now. thanks a lot everybody.

Hi guys
I was wondering if the NOKIA - Lumia 800 is any good? Kinda in need for a new phone, I'm not so much into loading up apps and all that other stuff as I don't spend much time on the phone... the only thing I need is facebook, the ability to call and send texts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've literally looked up millions of reviews, but they have just confused me because of the several updates made to the phone and such. -
It's not an Android phone, but it's solid for the use case you mentioned. It won't get Windows Phone 8 though, but what's there is solid functionality that'll get a bit better with Windows Phone 7.8 soon enough.
-
Thanks you very much.
Any Android phone that is slightly a like with a long battery life you would recommend? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Well, all of that depends on whether you'll be buying on contract and which country you're in... different phones are offered in different regions. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I had to disable Swype and that auto fill word thing, absolutely hate it during Steam chats..
Oh is there a way to prevent Steam app from disconnecting while you put the phone to sleep? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's in the settings.
You can also see that they haven't bothered to update it to Holo yet for Android 4.0+. It still has the Gingerbread boxes and buttons.
