Weeee!Good now is working on the One S.

Google Now?
I did a battery test, Galaxy Nexus vs. HTC One S.
After watching 20 minutes of the 2012 Google I/O, the One used 5% of its battery, the Galaxy Nexus used 15%.

Oops ahah.
Brain fart. But yeah its working nicely even though I just started using it, finding bus times and what not.

Well, if you use local number portability, that automatically closes off that line that you take the number from. So your line on VZW wouldn't just be assigned a new number. It would be closed out and an ETF issued for the prorated amount of your remaining contract. :/ Since you just got that D3 not too long ago, it'll probably come with a hefty ETF. Maybe you can talk to Verizon and notify them that you'll be taking that number but you'd like to keep the line open... for them to reassign a new number. Maybe they will? I know AT&T didn't... paperwork and crap.
480p 4" AMOLED vs 720p 4.65" AMOLED. lol. Plus, S4 is 28NM where OMAP 4460 is 45NM.
REALLY nice isn't it?! I just love that it's so fast. It spanks Siri for resolution time. -
Anyone here *cough*Jason *cough* know much about this 'unbreakable plane' display technology that's getting mentioned a lot in connection to the rumoured Note2.
A lot of people (and second-rate blogs) are simply describing it as an unbreakable screen but that doesn't sound right. -
Is this what you might be referring to? Samsung Galaxy Note II rumored to have flexible OLED screen
-
Well then...that sucks. I'll try a online chat with vzw. If i dont switch then no loss
-
Wow, that phone looks amazing.
5.4" display is huge for a phone. I could of sworn the original note was 4.7", but I just checked gsmarena and it's 5.3". Not sure if i would feel comfortable with such a large phone - I found the Inspire 4G @ 4.3" to be the perfect size for me, even though my current MyTouch 4G is 3.8", which is fine, but I'd prefer 4.3". -
i'd welcome a phone that large with open arms. typing on it would be great probably.
-
But, what about pocketability? I had the Dell Streak 5 a year or so ago. Awesome phone, but it was huge in the pocket.

Honestly? I have no idea. :/
Meanwhile, just to rub some salt... booboo, today in Engadget history:
HTC's dual-mode CDMA / GSM Android slider with 1.2GHz CPU headed to Verizon in 2011? -- Engadget -
ugh dont remind me...please...
I'd stil want to buy one but the dev community is small and focused more on the regional carrier's versions. The GB update many Verizon Merge users flash (since Verizon feels its ok to sell this thing still in indirect stores but not support it at all) is a US Cellular ROM. -

Anyone seen this video?! Mali T-604 demonstrated!

T-Mobile is 2g only at my school (Shippensburg university) ... that's a bummer. I know I have wifi there but its the lame "you must sign in via a portal" kind so it wouldn't be always instant.
decisions decisions...
That is impressive stuff right there! -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yea, T-Mobile 2G is EDGE. It's "shoot-me" slow. Matter of fact, if I had to go back to EDGE I'd rather not have internet at all. Verbal communication is faster.
Meanwhile, that Mali-T604 demo was the Samsung Exynos 5250. ARM made an official statement.
-
Now Samsung just need to pull their finger out and actually release something that uses the 5250.
The Note 10.1 is still the 4412, most of the rumours surrounding the Note2 have it pegged as the 4412 too.
At this rate, HTC or someone is going to release a handset with a quad-core S4 in it before Samsung get the 5250 to market and that could see them on the back foot. -
I'm testing my 3800mah Galaxy Nexus battery. 30 minutes of Google I/O used 5% of the battery
-
I'm willing to bet that they're holding off the 5250 for their next Galaxy S IV (?) so they can put as a feature "Featuring the brand new T604" etc.
With this said, I'm going to hold my GSII for this whole year, and then get the next Samsung with the 5250. -
That's a solid idea. I like my S3, but to be frankly honest if not for the larger screen and higher resolution, everything else to me is a wash compared to the Exynos S2.
Feel free to disagree, but I think the Exynos S2 is still a very competitive handset compared to today's flagship phones. Sure it doesn't have a 720p screen, but everything else is still at least to par with what's out on the market right now. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I very much agree. Samsung was a generation ahead with the SII. On every benchmark I run, I can usually score within breathing points of the ASUS Transformer Prime with T3. The only place it doesn't measure up is with S4's Krait cores and that's for obvious reasons..lol.
I'll probably be getting an International i9300 because it has Wolfson, and Supercurio is putting the finishing touches on Voodoo for it. That's the only area that I think the SII could really improve... sound quality. -
Apparently getting S-off on the MyTouch 4G Slide requires sticking wires in the phone.
whyy HTC? -
Never going to happen IMO.
If they let competitors get quad-core S4 handsets on sale and they're still farting around with Exynos4, Samsung will lose sales - myself included.
Exynos4 with 4 cores is given a serious run for it's money by the dual-core S4s, the quad-core S4s would wipe the floor with it and will come with a whole new GPU to boot.
The Note2 needs to be a big step forward, Samsung didn't do anything spectacular with the S3 and the gap to HTC et al shrunk a bit, if they mess around too much longer the gap will close even more and that's simply not good business sense. -

HTC criticism 2012: Apple, Samsung competition has HTC in Hell
Worth a read IMO. -
Read it. That's a shame as HTC is my favourite mobile manufacturer. It's a pretty steep drop going all the way down to 2.5% from 10%. I always thought they were much more popular.

When is there going to be more modifications that fully function for my phone?

Had to do the same wire trick for my Vivid. Welcome to the new HTC. They've gone so far down the wrong path its crazy. Samsung is who you want if you're your into flashing ROMs and the likes. Even though they locked down the Verizon GS3 and GSM users are losing their IMEIs...

I've actually never known anyone, myself included, that has lost an IMEI on a Samsung device. Then even if you do somehow lose it, flashing with ODIN back to a factory state brings it back. Nothing in the nv_data.bin is touched. -
While I didn't lose it, I purchased a Galaxy Nexus with missing IMEI.
-
Factory-unlocked bootloaders are a blessing.
Plus, GSM users only lose their IMEI when they mess with their /efs folder, which is stupid. People say it was because they flashed something in "the wrong way", which is due to user error. Otherwise, there is no way to mess up the efs folder. That comes from someone who flashes stuff twice everyday...
90% of cases it wom't fix. It needs a special lengthy treatment to fix it. At least on the GSII... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Oh, yea I was talking about the GS1. Haven't really looked into it on the GS2. -
Since you're one of the mobile experts here on NBR, I'll ask you
I have an HTC MyTouch 4G. If I wanted to get as much benefits out of it as possible, I understand I need to do a few things:
1. Jelly Bean 4.1 is the latest OS, right? If my handset came with 2.3, what's the best way for me to upgrade to it? Best site for a guide? Do I need to do anything to prep the upgrade?
2. Roms: Is this for people who are not satisfied with their current Android OS? It just adds new features, right? So let's say I visited:
HTC MyTouch ROMs | TheUnlockrTheUnlockr
I'd just go through the list and check out the top rated one's? Is this the better place for Roms? If so, want to link me a site with your recommendations on roms?
3. Roots: Rooting a phone is a must before adding third-party customizations, right? If so, best site/guide for generally rooting?
4. Hacks: Root = Hacks, same term right?
Thanks in advance
-
Did you get the slide? I know you asked for HAL, but i've been looking on XDA for ROM's and just to check out the MT4GS scene there before buying. I've never visited the Unlockr, but i'm 99% sure XDA is more popular.
You'll need to root and install a custom recovery before installing a Android 4.0/4.1 ROM. Most 3rd party ROM's are customized variants of Android. Some focus on adding features, others on speed and stability.
I dunno if you'll need to achieve S-Off to install custom ROM's, but you might. If you have the Slide, you'll need to do what's called the "wire trick" to perform this action. I'd look on XDA in the Slide forum for more info on this, along with information on using HTCDev.com (HTC's developer site) to unencrypt/unlock the bootloader.
Rooting a device could be considered a hack i guess. but gaining Root on a device is something specific...in that case gaining full permissions to do things on/to the device.
I should do more research myself before I commit haha. -
I'm 100% certain.
-
Yeah I never am one to bet 100% but I pretty much knew it was.
-
XDA is just huge though, I can't think of another mobile phone forum that's anywhere near the same size.
-
You don't need S-Off for customer roms with the MT4G. But you'll need to take an extra step or two to install a rom (ICS roms in particular) and you might have an issue here and there with the installed rom (with S-on). What you do absolutely need is root and an unlocked bootloader via HTCDev. The stickies in the MT4G forum will have all the info, including how to do the wired trick for S-Off.
FYI: No I have not done the wire trick or own the MT4G, these are simply the information I extracted from the stickies. What I do have is an HTC One S with S-On (but unlocked bootloader) which works just fine with custom roms. -
TIL lol, thanks johnny!

I was reading about the A15 Tegra 4 and how it will be 10x as powerful as the Tegra 3. When can we expect these in tablets?
-
Quick question. My Captivate is giving me a low on storage notice for internal memory. When I click the notice it takes me to the storage use menu "All" and shows 352mb used and 1.5gb remaining. Not sure why I'm getting the notice. Anyone have ideas? I can't figure it out based on where the notice takes me. Just curious. What do I need to clear? I don't think the phones internal storage is low. Maybe its taking me to the wrong place? I must be missing something.

Got the non-slide version.
Thank you for the explanation. Both you and Johnny have made things much more clearer for me.
Checking out how to root now, I didn't even know there was a MT4G section until I Google'd it (previously visited the XDA site and didn't notice the site had separate phone sections).
How to Root MT4G:

10x is a bit of dreamy statement by NVIDIA. A15 is DEFINITELY faster in IPC over A9, but not 10x.
EDIT: You can expect A15 in a tablet before the end of the year. Samsung's Exynos 5250 has been sampling for a while, and was actually ready to go mass production before the GSIII launched but the quad-4412 was given the green light.
That's something that has been happening with the GS1 family for a while. Try a different kernel or try booting into recovery and deleting ONLY your cache and dalvik cache. You'll find the dalvik cache delete option under the "advanced" menu option.
If that doesn't work let me know.
LOL. I am many things, but expert isn't one. Case in point: I know almost nothing about HTC's unlocking/S-OFF/H-BOOT procedures.
Now, if you had a Samsung device I could tell you exactly what you need.
Johnny T. and Booboo are who you'll want to talk to about HTC devices.
Sorry about not replying sooner. I'm moving ATM.

So, my GS2 i777 has been having some issues with the AMOLED panel here lately. So I call AT&T for a replacement. Guess how the replacement arrives...
It arrives with another bootloader. From a GT-i9100. This is an i777.

That's the screen it gets if it's been rooted. all of them say that unless you get rid of the root counter.
