Oh...![]()
Why didn't you ask us about that before? I have a guide to recover the phone back to stock... :/

-
I know how to use Odin. Just download the wrong files.
I can pay $30 to have it fixed with a JTAG. I guess that's the best option.

Oh, you didn't just kill it... you did it RIGHT? I see.
Ouch. :/ -
Flashing a non-I9100 .PIT is a death sentence for the GSII. The JTAG will definitely help. It's the only option anyway.
-
Yeah, this will be a good $30 lesson.
I've had $500 lessons before(don't ship iPhones to Russia). -
What's wrong with your GN? Why upgrade to the S3?
-
The S3 is going to be provided for me as a work's phone.

This is much more interesting in my eyes. Can't wait what HTC has to offer! -
They also don't recommend flashing a pit in a gs2.
You usually stick the tar or md5 in the pda or phone section as needed but pit is always left blank.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 -
Flashing a .PIT by itself isn't harmful/bad. It's just when you do flash it, you must be 2x as careful with so it doesn't fail. Almost all my ODIN flashes were made with a .PIT.

I use Nova Launcher Prime and I live it. But I have an old Samsung Captivate.

Sold the GS3 for a Razr M. The trade off with losing the 720p screen for a smaller chassis, same SoC and a more sleek, professional look is worth it IMO.
-
^I can see the appeal to that. I have been thinking very seriously about using my upgrade to get the Note 2 on ATT when it releases. I love everything about it.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Seriously? A GS3 to a RAZR M? -
Same, I love Nova Launcher on my phone.
On my tablet though I like Apex Launcher, more visual effects and a nicer UI for the tablet. -
For the price, the M is still quite attractive, even if the design ID of moto's android lineup overall is beginning to show it's age.
I could see why someone would want it especially if they find the GS3 to be too big, and arent a tinkerer who wants a unlockable bootloader.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2 -
I've never seen a custom rom for a gs2 that actually used a pit file.
Maybe for other models and brands, but never the sgs2. Cmiiw.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 -
...Exactly. If I can have the power of the U.S. GS3 in a smaller size, then why not? I'm not bothered by the qHD resolution and the Motorola phones have stronger radio receptions, so it works out really well for me. The Snapdragon S4 can propel ICS/JB very well at 720p resolution, and the same SoC behind a qHD screen is a missile. I would like to have root just to get the modded Exchange Mail Policy, but see no point of flashing a ROM since what it has works quite well. All I've done is get Nova Launcher and all is well.

I had to like that post. That er mah gerd comment is worth its weight in gold alone.

Nice. Either LG messed up the browser or Force GPU Rendering in 2D needs to be enabled.

I know many of you are probably at XDA Dev forums. I'v ebeen registered since March, but until lastnight, hadn't done much posting there. I'm starting to like that forum! Especially since people are still active in the Samsung Captivate subforum. Well I went on this morning and when I logged in I I accidentally hit the register button. Took me to the n00b video. Never saw it before but I thought it was awesome. Definately a great way to get the point across to the n00bs like me
lol

Anyone here try ICS on an epic 4g? Still considering doing this, but also considering just holding out a year and finding a different phone. Starting to consider other mobile platforms and its scaring me...

LG's browser always fails. Chrome is almost a necessity for such a phone. -
Eh, the G1 still beats it.

Why is chrome so truly terible on Tegra 2 devices? The default browser uses OpenGL rendering and it's like silk (which is odd in itself considering how choppy the rest of the UI is). I don't know that Chrome uses any OpenGL to aid in rendering.
EDIT: I should also say I'm talking about Jellybean on the Xoom. -

I wish all the Apple fanboys could see that video. It shows 30% of why I say Apple is playing catch-up in the phone industry right now.
I believe with the 5 they just went up to 1GB of RAM.
Love my 4S but just not impressed at all with the 5. -
The average iPhone user doesn't care about RAM or NFC or any of that. Samsung missed the point. It's not about specs to these people, its about the quality of the user experience, something that Apple manages to nail consistently.

I have a feeling that if Samsung would go AOSP Android and get Project Butter up and running on Exynos, people would be blown away. I know I would consider nothing else on the market if Samsung did just that. They always have top notch hardware with durable (albeit not quite classy) enclosures... it's almost the perfect formula. -
New favorite app... Newegg app. Just let's you browse the new egg online store but I like it. Allows you to filter stuff by various categories. I like using it to price check things.

But that is so subjective. I'm sure android users also have quality user experiences too.
The thing is there really isn't anything Apple has that can be concretely measured as more innovative by a neutral observer.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 -
I agree... but, it seems common for Apple customers to assume they are the only ones that have a quality experience. I know a number of former iPhone users that are very happy Android customers, but I don't personally know one former Android customer that prefers the iPhone. I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't personally met one yet.
As far as innovation is concerned, they take it to a certain point with a concept-- their concept of what it "should be" for everyone--and then stifle innovation with propriety and draconian control over how their products can be used. That actually detracts from the user experience for some and, to an extent, guarantees the success of competing products. -
I know it's subjective and I personally think that TouchWiz UX is a great UI, but there's indeed a belief that iPhone's are simply more stable than Android. I've had 3 android phones so far (Droid 1, Stratosphere, Droid 3) and each hasn't had the stability that a iOS device has. Not even close.
Not everyone's willing to risk a purchase when they hear about devices that:
*random reboot for seemingly no reason (every device I've had and the Stratosphere was so bad I went through 2 replacements before giving up and going to the D3)
*software bugs like on Moto's last gen UI: Open the app drawer and touch the search key....on the D3 even with the latest MR, it crashes the launcher. Every. Single. Time.
There's something to be said for not wanting that. People who notice that people with iPhones generally tend to enjoy them and talk positively about them are probably more likely to buy one.
The thing is...Samsung should be talking less about specs, specs, specs, and more about the user experience of their devices. Apple never says to the general public "it's got 2 GB OF RAM!!!!".
To be fair Samsung is talking about the user experience to a extent with ads that showcase stuff like Buddy Photo Share, S Voice, etc...but the full page spec comparison ad they took out in the paper was kinda a fail IMO: It listed off some key things like the larger screen, yes, but also delved into stuff no average person will even care about, boring them in the process.
Oh and Google Play Music can literally die in a fire. It's awful. -
What is a good music player app for the Droid? I'm looking for playing my MP3s. Also is there any app that can play iTunes files? I'm guessing that DRM will be a problem??
I get all my music through iTunes since I mostly use iPods for traveling and working out.
I just picked up a 32 GB Micro SD card for my Captivate so I've been loading it with Movies
I figure that when I deploy overseas early next year I'll take the captivate so I can watch movies and play games during the hurry up and wait times.
-
Most of the music players support non drm iTunes music (that's AAC IIRC).
Since you use iTunes to buy music, i'd get DoubleTwist from the Play Store: How to sync iTunes with Android | How To - CNET -
Sweet, thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if there is a way to have DoubleTwist recognize the SD card in the phone? Right now it's showing 9 GB free, when there should be 19 free on the 32GB SD card. Hmm. I'm playing around with it now.
-
I actually know a few people that used to have HTC Droid Eris phones that are now on iPhones, and they prefer their iPhones by far.
On the other hand, when the micro-usb port quit working on my mom's Moto Droid 2, she went out and bought an iPhone 4. Big mistake on her part. She's not the most technologically smart person out there, so needless to say, she spent 6 hours in Verizon's parking lot after she bought the iPhone, trying to figure out how everything worked. It's completely different from the Droid. To this day, she prefers the Droid's interface better, particularly with the navigation features (though she does admit that iOS is faster, smoother, and is more stable than Android. Plus the addition of an iPad in the house a while back has helped her learn iOS).
So why did she pick the iPhone in the first place?
...Yeah.
As for me, every time I use an iOS device, I can never figure it out beyond basic web browsing. Organize the home screens? Forget it. I will say that iOS does seem snappier and more stable than Android, but Android is improving every day. My Droid 2's stability and performance improved dramatically when I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3, and my Sony Tablet S, which runs Android 4.0, is even better. Even so, it's still not *quite* up to the level of iOS, but I'll trade that for the easier and more friendly UI that Android provides (At least in my opinion since I'm used to Android)
