Turns out I think the Kies update hosed ICS. I flashed back to stock 2.3.6, installed CWM and now am running CM10.

    Glad I could help! :)

Once you're on CM10, it's literally impossible to mess the phone up, unless you remove the battery mid-flash or use Kies again. Have fun! ;)

Doubtful - why would Google want anything to do with HTC when it comes to tablets, given how poor HTC's own offerings have been.

If you look at the last couple of Nexus devices, they've basically been bestowed upon the companies who have been really pushing Android forward in the respective markets, Samsung for phones and Asus for tablets.
HTC simply aren't important enough or doing anything interesting enough to warrant Google selecting them as a Nexus manufacturer any time soon IMO.

My number transfer finally went through. Apparently Virgin Mobile put a hold on releasing my number for 5 business days, which is standard practice according to them. I thought they weren't allowed to do that?

Anyway, just a little PSA for anyone looking into starting a T-Mobile prepaid plan. DO NOT buy a SIM card from a T-Mobile store! They only sell contract SIM cards that cost $20 and do not include the activation code necessary to activate a pre-paid plan! The correct SIM and activation kit is available on T-Mobile's website for one dollar and free overnight shipping. Those $20 contract SIM's from the store are also non-refundable, as I learned today. I might as well have taken a $20 bill from my wallet and lit it on fire. I specifically explained that I was trying to activate a prepaid plan and they sold me that SIM saying it's what I needed. So mad right now...

That said, I'm really happy with the phone. It's been off the charger for two days and halfway through a third now, and the battery is still around 25%. Apparently 4G is a real battery hog; I actually lose battery slower on WiFi than I do on mobile data, which is a first for me...although this is my first time with 4G, so I have no idea if that's normal. My actual signal quality is great; on VM I could barely make a call in my own apartment and half of them ended up dropping; now I have full signal bars here.

One question about data usage: I have unlimited data with 5GB at 4G speeds. I've noticed that in some places, the "H" next to my signal bars changes to "3G" or "E". Does data transferred while in 3G or E mode still count against my 5GB, or does it only count data transferred while in H mode?"

You could sell the extra sim on craigslist or eBay.

I don't think you could use enough data on Edge to really impact your data allotment.

3G generally will count against it, but E(dge) won't. Thats actually what you get throttled to if you do hit the 5GB limit.

I want to say that those specs might be a bit of wishful thinking...

Ditto. But a Nexus is hard to ignore, regardless of OEM... and Sony makes almost the best hardware out there. Their devices have a solidarity that HTC or Samsung can't quite match. I think it's the designs. HTC compromises to much on their designs with materials and fit-n-finish, where Sony perfects their designs to a T before production. Case in point, the Desire HD battery size, placement and that door. IMHO, that should have been fixed in pre-production. Now compare even the Xperia Arc to the Desire HD. Both of the same class, but one is impeccably designed.

HTC has made its new Japan-bound superphone/phablet official:
This is a global device (NFC, LTE and CDMA/GSM/UMTS/GPRS radios) and the panel is supplied by Sharp and JDI. In addition it's waterproof (IPX5), weighs 140g, has 16GB of internal storage, a microSDHC expansion and Bluetooth 4.0 (LE). It will be available through KDDI in early December and the western counterpart is probably soon to follow.

Nice. This is very likely the same phone that has been caught on and off of various benchmark databases under the codename HTC6435LVW, a.k.a. Droid Incredible X for Verizon in the U.S. The battery size seems a bit small for what it's got though, and a lot of rumors of it not having MicroSD slot might be a turn off for some.

With LTE and a 5-inch 1080p display, the battery does indeed seem to be on the small side. The frame around the screen is also bigger than what I would have liked to see. When it comes to the microSD slot Engadget says it has one.

LOL! A quad-core APQ8064, 5" 1080p display, LTE and a 2020mAh battery. That's fail right there, no matter how you put it. The Galaxy Note II has a fricking 3100mAh battery! What is this HTC? Amateur hour?!

Oh yea, and 16GB of storage? I'll give them the MicroSD expansion... it's nice to see that coming back to HTC handsets. But this internal storage is woefully inadequate for a device with a 1080p display. Also, HTC is going to have to do a lot of customizing on the Android UI frameworks to make a workable DPI out of 1080p @ 5". 320 X-HDPI just won't cut that.

EDIT: Another point on the storage... HTC THEMSELVES are using 32GB and 64GB NAND in the OneX+. What's stopping them from at least outfitting this device with 32GB?

I agree with everyone else tho, that battery is a disaster. Glad I have a charger with me and I can charge my phone wherever I want with my laptop's battery.

The handset itself does look promising. 1080p, Quad S4, 2GB RAM...

LOVE it. It fits like a glove, looks super nice and it's actually REAL leather. Lol. Not pleather, like most of those other cases.

Note II = different target market.

This HTC device is just a large extremely hi-res phone. The Note II has an active Wacom Digitizer. Personally, after using the Note's stylus, I really don't like using other phones now. The ability to hover over menu items and such in the browser alone is amazing, and it really makes the Note into a completely functional desktop class browsing device.

LOL, that's what I get for relying on old information. Hopefully the rest of the world gets the same device.

Unless you're upgrading about two months or more from now, you may not have much of a choice right now, since the article Convel posted stated this handset will only be initially available in Japan while the rest of the world has to wait. The Note II is really the only choice at this moment if you're looking for a competent phablet.

Dammit first world problems. I always constantly switch between Android and iOS every few months and since the iPhone 5 is out I'm going to try iOS out again from being with my Galaxy Nexus for a while. But knowing that I'm unable to jailbreak the 5 is a huge turn off. I don't think i can stand using a iPhone without my Cydia Apps. But i feel like i need a new phone. The Galaxy Nexus is cool and all but i get bored of things especially technology fast. Should i just hold out till the jailbreak so not only will the iPhone be better but so will my wallet, or just stay with my Nexus. I was considering the S3 but i don't like touch wiz or whatever Samsung has put on top of Android. I much prefer vanilla/stock.

There are quite a few S3 devs. Only thing Touch Wiz does is drain your battery life, so much better battery life going to CM10/4.1.2 on my Phone from 2.3/4.0.

That would be illegal in the UK, that's mis-selling.
You should lodge an official complaint, effectively they stole your money.

    Love it! :D

The HTC handset looks good, I'm tempted by it even in spite of the battery.
But the next week-and-a-bit looks as though it could have a few surprises up it's sleeves - possible iPad Mini launch, Kindle Fire in the UK, Win8, WP8, Google's Android/Nexus? announcement and training on 4 new Samsung devices.

Yeah Kies screwed up my rooted phone when I did the official ICS upgrade.

What's people's opnion on the XPERIA U as a backup phone? I honestly want a backup GSM phone, and that seems like a decent phone for 200 unlocked.

Herp derp. You don't use Kies period, especially on a rooted phone. :/ ODIN.

As far as the Xperia U (Sony Kumquat LMAO), it's a decent phone. It's not going to be a speed demon by any means but it's fine for a backup. It has the Mali-400 GPU, but only in a single core configuration, where the Samsung Exynos devices have Mali-400 in a quad-core configuration.

Meanwhile, has anyone noticed that the new Samsung Chromebook uses Samsung's Exynos 5250? I knew that they've had that SoC ready for quite a while now... dual-core A15 with 2GB of LP-DDR3.

Speaking of which, what do you guys use to sync music to your Android phones' external SD cards? I used Kies for a little while before rooting, and while it worked fine, Kies now refuses to detect my S3 (probably a symptom of rooting and/or a bunch of the other tweaks/debloating I did).

Just an opinion but I think you're way off.
Samsung will need to have something to counter the Krait SoCs, I would imagine that the S3 successor will feature a next-gen SoC of some sort.

I like how the Xperia U looks and for 200 for an unlocked phone, it looks like a decent deal. The no microSD card slot doesn't really bother me, I don't have a crap load of music/movies.

All I can say is Samsung are working on it but don't hold your breath.

Lolno. The next Galaxy S successor will not have Exynos 4. 4412 is the last of the Exynos 4 line.

    That's good to hear!

I have checked with my carrier, and apparently my contract only ends in July :/ I'll have to wait for the next Galaxy S or the next Galaxy Note I think... It's wiser this way I think!

So, the Bionic is getting it's ICS update today. I guess since they cleared their docket from all those old flagships they've had a bit of time to get something out the door.

Got the chance to fiddle with the new RAZR HD Maxx in the store today...such a nice build quality and like the M, a fairly understated industrial design. Was going hold out for the Note II, but Verizon hasn't announce it and this phone will probably the king of battery life like its predecessor. Just chucked the iPhone on Craigslist, so we'll see how this pans out.

MSM8960 and a 28NM baseband with a 3300mAh battery... that should be very nice. I just can't get past the software. :/

Aside from the software (and occasionally a low performance SoC), Motorola has always made nice hardware even if they're once again getting derivative with their designs.
