Yeah, as long as it is possible to have a good grip in most situations (for example, when you're pushed, and you have to hold it so it doesn't fall) I think the GNote 2 is the winner here.
I think I'm going with the GNote 2. I just think having 1 device instead of 2 is much easier than having to carry around one phone a tablet dock to write on it. Multi-view plays a big role too!
And the Exynos 4 chip will most definitely hold until the A57 comes around.
@Screen defect issue.
My GSII has no issues at all with 1.5years. Not even the dreaded status bar burn-in. Sometimes the white is a bit blue, but that's nothing a display color config can't solve.

For those of you that want the Nexus 4, don't forget it will be available on the 13th, which apparently means right at midnight. The Australians managed to blow through their 16 GB Nexus 4 allocation within 20 minutes of it being available. Good luck!

Looks like I stated up until two for nothing.
People have been reporting that the orders start at 9:00 PST.
Almost nothing. I finished some calculus homework and installed the 4.2 keyboard.

I want one but I'm hoping to get it subsidised as part of my upgrade, so need to wait for the likes of CPW to get stock.
-
My bad guys...I guess Google decided to be fair here and will make them available at a more reasonable time. I guess it's going to have to come down to leaving the page open and auto-refresh every minute.
EDIT: A lot of tech sites are reporting the 4 and the 10 will be available at 9 AM PST. That's 11 AM CST and 12 PM EST.
HTC Droid DNA coming to Verizon on November 21st for $200, pre-orders begin today
http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/13/htc-droid-dna-verizon/
I'd love to see the screen, but the battery size is downright scary in a bad way.
...Just watched the 16 GB Nexus 4 sold out within a few minutes of going live on the Play Store. 8 GB Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are still available. This pretty much confirms the 8 GB model doesn't have mass market appeal as the larger capacity, so hopefully this is the last Nexus to have less than 16 GB of internal storage. -
The 8GB is out of stock now. I wanted a 16GB, but Google Checkout kept giving me an error. Then the 16GB sold out and I purchased an 8GB.
-
I would love to see an HTC Droid that doesn't have a black and red color scheme.
-
That's Verizon's color scheme. The GSM version of the phone is expected to be released in China and Taiwan soon, and perhaps the rest of Europe as the HTC DLX. Those should be available in the standard black and white livery.

Another stupid question...
If you have a network-locked i9300 and you flash an unbranded ROM, that doesn't unlock it, right? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Indeed. Network lock is stored in the baseband. Once unlocked with the code, it's permanent... but just flashing something like an unbranded ROM won't unlock it. -
Yeah, that's what I thought but some idiot was trying to tell me that you could unlock your handset that way and even though I knew he was wrong, I doubted myself for a moment.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Weird showing up now 8 GB is available while 16 GB shows notify me.
-
If you keep refreshing the 16GB page, it will show up.
I was able to snag one that way. -
Seems Google is finally stepping up its game!
Now Apple fanbois can't say that their phones are better because they sell more. In just hours, the N4 was stocked out! -
Just thinking out loud, how about flashing a different baseband?
-
It'll only update the modem.bin. Unlocking it would need you to fiddle/mess with nv_data.bin.md5 and change some things in the /efs folder.
-
To be fair, I'm quite sure the iPhone 5 had much larger quantities on hand than the Nexus 4 when it went up for order. In any case, hope it's a signal to Android OEMs of the uncluttered stock Android's popularity. It's not the Gingerbread-era anymore.
That screen sounds amazing. The Verizon color scheme is rather ugly, but the overall aesthetic (very slim side bezels!) is nice. That said, I'd never get one even if I were in the market, since I really do need a comfortable full day's battery endurance at the very least, as well as a microSD expansion card slot. -
All it signifies is the popularity of cheap devices with decent specs.

I got my replacement Galaxy S3 and the screen is very good, no visible problems
Is it worth upgrading to jelly bean as there is some reports of bad battery life and sluggish performance, i want to keep my phone stop so there will be no way back to ICS.
Thanks
John. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
When I ran CM10 (4.1) it was pretty smooth. Worst case you can always reflash ICS back unless you haven't rooted your phone yet. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
With Samsung devices, you can keep it 100% stock and still be able to move back and forth from ICS to JB. Samsung devices can downgrade bootloaders with no issues, so if you don't like JB it's 100% possible to get back to ICS.
ODIN/Heimdall FTW! -
OK I'm having some issues. I'm trying to connect my Samsung Captivate to my laptop. (X7200). I'm able to pair it but when it searches for drivers it fails. In the properties its showing a code 28. I want to be able to use the phone to stream Pandora and other music/videos through my laptop, and thus through my stereo system. Anyone have any advice? This is driving me bonkers and I have a feeling it's going to be something simple that I'm missing.
Also I can send files from my computer, to the phone, but not from the phone to the computer. It's pairing, but not connecting, so the Bluetooth icon on the phone isn't being highlighted. -
Samsung Galaxy Note II 16GB N7100 - DigitalRev

I would honestly trade away 4G for mroe custom ROMs and kernels. My HSPA+ speeds are quite fast and I have nothing to complain about.

There's a lot of features your phone can present to the computer upon pairing. What is the driver being labeled as in Device Manager? Nine times out of ten, the DUN functionality is what most computers can't find drivers for.

HTC Droid DNA review | The Verge
Heh go figure, Sense is dragging it down on top of poor battery life. -
I read a few other review that say it has average battery life(Laptopmag, phonearena, & mobiletechreview).
-
I'm getting real tired of manufacturer skins. I've yet to use one, aside from maybe touchwiz on the gs3, that was anything but a laggy bloated mess. IMO motos skin made the droid RAZR all but unusable.
-
As expected, the Sony C660X and HTC Droid DNA won't be the only 5-inch, 1080p superphones arriving in the (relatively) near future.

So my Nexus 7 decided to stop charging . It's been sitting at the desk for about 5 days without being touched and I picked it up and it says 50% charged and its been plugged in the entire time. And the worst part is its like day 15 and staples only has a 14 day return policy....grrrr
Ok I just checked it again and its been less than 30 minutes and it says 100% charge....what!!? Something is messed up here. -
Nah, probably just a small software glitch.

Gah, now the HTC Deluxe (AKA DNA in the US) will be released in early 2013, and it seems like a really great phone... dat display.jpg
But HTC, WHY didn't you include a better battery and an SD slot? A total deal breaker for me :/ -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I don't see an SD card slot is a deal breaker, alot of new phones in the spirit of slimmer are opting for high capacity internal memory, like the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, and alot of Sony phones don't have SD slots. -
Tailgunner, how's the Note 2 display so far? How has been your experience on your second week? Would you trade for a HTC DNA?
The only winning factors of the DNA are the amazing 1080p screen and the SoC, but falls in regards to the battery life, SD slot and features, IMHO. -
I love it, the quality overall is a noticeable improvement over the original Note -- the usual issues associated with AMOLED screens (aliasing and white color reproduction) have pretty much been minimized to the point where you can't find faults unless you obsessively examined it. I still think the best AMOLED screen I've seen so far is on the Tab 7.7, but the Note 2's is very close to it. I've been watching 1080p YouTube videos on it over my desktop just because of how sharp and vibrant the image look. Don't get me wrong, IPS screens like the iPhone and the Optimus G/Nexus 4 looks really good, but sometimes they just lack the "punch" I like with AMOLED screens. Vibrant movies like Rio really shows off these screens well.
Two weeks of ownership and I just can't see what else would replace the Note II. The only fault I can see is that it's a bit big, but otherwise it performs quite well or exceeds my expectations: RAZR Maxx-like battery life, expandable memory, large vibrant 720p screen, loud robust speaker, good camera, physical buttons, and how easy it is to root or flash kernels/ROMs. The phablet pretty much killed any desire for an Android tablet though, I just can't see why I would want a 7" or 10" Android tablet when I have this.
Absolutely not. I see the same flaws with the DLX/DNA as with the One X; it's got a great screen, camera and build quality, but everything else just falls apart after that. I hate how difficult it is to flash anything on HTC devices if you do not unlock the bootloader or obtain S-OFF.
Flashing kernel with HTC: Unlock bootloader, Root, Flash Recovery, Obtain Security-Off, Flash Kernel.
Flashing kernel with Samsung: Flash Kernel with ODIN.
At this point, my stance on HTC Android devices is that if you are interesting in one, make sure you are okay with EVERYTHING on the software side. Sense is too well strapped in the firmware, so attempting to uninstall or freeze its components could render the phone useless and it will need to be completely restored via RUU. As long as HTC keeps a security lock on their Android devices, I will not purchase any of their devices going forward.
Pretty much. Some reviewers such as The Verge reported intermittent lag as well; I'd like to see what how Snapdragon S4 Pro performs in something that isn't being dragged down by Sense. -
That's good to hear! I sometimes notice a blue-ish White on my GSII, apparently it's gone on the Note 2! So it's impossible to separately find pixelation on the screen? (as in when you can see the pixels individually) Plus, it's finally RGB, so it only increases the goods.
That is very good to hear. I hate when I'm showing new music to my friends (as we're all musicians), it's almost impossible to show it outside, unless it's 100% windless and has NO background noise.
Plus, I've seen myself for the last week, actually needing the pop-up S Memo, where I had to write something down super quickly but was unable to, and that feature is very, very handy.
It's funny actually, I was with my friend going to the dentist, and I told her "Hey, that's the Note. It's the Note 1 tho", and she asked if that was the one I wanted, and I said yes. Her reaction was hilarious "O____O"!
Yeah, exactly what I was afraid of. A friend of mine has the Desire S, and he can't root it because he's too scared to do something wrong a brick it because of all the steps necessary. I knew that it was hard, but not that hard. I've gotten too used to the Samsung way of flashing I guess.
I'm also more of a AMOLED guy, I love the amazing colors... So from the DNA's display, the only win in my view is the 440PPI and the 1080p res. 720p probably will hold well until 2014/2015 when ARM A57 is released!
You have the Nexus 4 to compare, but unfortunately, it really suffers from the thermal throttling... -
Well it was having problems staying connected to my laptop as well so maybe usb problem

The Galaxy Nexus tops out at 32GB and ONLY on VZW. The international models are all 16GB.
The Nexus 4 tops out at 16GB PERIOD.
Sony can bite me. The DO have nice hardware but to not include at a BARE MINIMUM of 32GB... NO.
Keep on derping on why you don't understand that not having a MicroSD slot is a deal breaker for a LOT of people. You don't just have MicroSD slots in every single phone one day and NOT the next, while still NOT upping the internal storage capacity. And before you go on about the iPhone... Apple offers up to 64GB of internal storage capacity. I could live with that and not need an external SD. But no Android OEM aside from Samsung will do that. Samsung has made a 64GB S III and will be making a 64GB Note II, but both of those ALSO have external SD. -
It's great and all but 32GB really is 28ish or less. So for people like me with tons of movies I get to bring 5 or so more movies. Plus it makes my media mobile to my phone, laptop and other devices. Add the fact that it's user replaceable and I'm sold.
I would take a thicker phone if it meant I had 64gb internal, external storage and better battery technology. Screw quad cores I want better batteries and more storage.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 -
Well let's put it this way...if you find the Note II's speaker not loud enough, there's no smartphone that's going to satisfy you. The Nexus 4/Optimus G had a pretty loud speaker as well, but this guy's shockingly loud. I can't remember if Samsung did the same for the Galaxy S III, but there is a little "bump" on the top of the speaker grille, so that the speaker doesn't get covered up if you place it on a desk. LG, take note (No pun intended).
