Awesome! Thanks for the info :)

Funny thing is, I'll get the Note 2 after my GS2, and will probably get the Note 4 when it comes out with the A57 Exynos... It'll in the end be in "total", 24, which is the date of my birthday :p /logic

So... if I had a gun pointed at me and had to say something negative about that phone it would be that rounded off corners isn't visually appealing to me, and that's entirely a matter of preference! :D

    What to expect:
    Non-PenTile 1080p AMOLED display
    Audiophile-grade DAC
    Powerful Exynos Quad SoC (suggestions?)
Large internal storage ( 64GB eMMC?)
    MicroSD slot
    Decent camera
    Good battery life
    Solid speakers
Navigational buttons (not just on screen)
    Superb developer support/easy flashing/unlocked bootloader
    Late Q1/Q2 2013 availability?

I really hope this won't be a long wait and that their SoC choice will be S4 Pro competitive. I really don't see a reason to buy anything else.

Fortunately the Note 2 has all of those except for the screen res and the SoC so I won't regret my purchase

The SoC will be most definitely an adapted Exynos 5250, it's still too early for a smartphone to have a 5450 chip.

Non pentile? Nope. It'll be pentile.
Samsung is supposed to be sticking with Wolfson for the foreseeable future.
It won't have Exynos 5 Quad. Dual, MAYBE if it's on a 22NM process, or they downclock/undervolt it.
Samsung makes their own NAND, so this one could come true.
    MicroSD? Always.
Samsung always has good camera modules.
    3000mAh+
Iffy. Maybe if they follow what they did with the Note/Note II.
Samsung likes their capacitive buttons... so do I.
    Unlocked bootloader? Check.

I would be perfectly okay with the 5250 in the next Galaxy S or Note. It's already beating the Snapdragon S4 Pro despite being two cores short, just needs a process shrink to keep the power consumption and heat down.

True, but the issue is that if I buy the Note 2 now, my next phone will only be in 2-3 years, AKA missing out the next Note, since I'll be graduating this year probably, and I need the money (Paris and Madrid are very costly)

I forgot that "True HD" was just a marketing word coming from Samsung.
I thought that was mostly software related and that the S4 Pro would improve?

Not really. The S4 Pro has been already maxed with the DNA, and we already see the results. The Exynos packs true A15 architecture and the next gen Mali T604. It's a beast.

Good to know. When it comes to the S4 Pro, I've only read some of the reviews on the Optimus G where the reviewers kept pointing out that the software was holding it back.

I felt that having external memory via microSD was a differentiating feature for Android phones... so I still don't understand why any Android maker would remove it... esp Nexus phones if they are only going up to 32gb internally.

An 8gb tablet with only 5+gb available was a joke... which is probably why Google discontinued it.

S4 Pro is begging to be put into a tablet. It's just too power hungry for a phone. Put S4 Dual with the Adreno 320 and we'll be back in business... but sadly that'll never happen.

The DNA is hampered by it's battery and it's TDP. It's just not a right fit for S4 Pro... neither is the Nexus 4.

Can somebody with an Samsung Galaxy S3 confirm this problem, when recording video, the left and right audio channels are reversed, I tested it by tapping on the left and right mic while i was shooting video.

    Thanks

I can't really complain - the phone is for use as a business handset, it just needs to call, text, e-mail and Chat-On.
But we will apparently have two handsets each all the time now, with them being updated in line with new releases. Though there's also a suggestion that they'll be split between Android an WP8.

I'm still looking forward to the Galaxy Camera, they arrived in the office on Friday so I should get it soon :D

I think it's not very handy.

Welp, the best I could see vs the Note 2 which I could see in the S4 is the 1080p screen and a 30% SoC boost. Not worthy of reconsideration.

It'll never go in a smartphone... lol. They're just talking about the big.LITTLE arch. That WILL be coming to smartphones. Probably a dual-core 28NM A15 with a complementing Cortex A7 for low power.

I have an AT&T Galaxy S3. Tested with both horizontal orientations. Holding the phone with the home button on the left side, the microphones are oriented correctly. Holding the phone with the home button on the right side, the sound channels are indeed swapped, with sound that is picked up from the right microphone playing back from the left.

Sound channels would have to be swapped in software because Android's channel order is pretty much cement in the kernel... unless you rewrite the audio driver a bit, then recompile the kernel from source. :/

Plus, Android already has plenty of audio latency. Adding a software buffer for something like this wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah I have one, prob can cook up an easy way to fix it in post if you need since I am software/encoding king :D

These days I use an external audio recorder for my videos its so handy and much higher quality, the speaker on the S3 is prob my largest grip just that one tinny speaker on the back :/ coming from 2 Sony phones with dual stereo speakers side mounted its night and day.

Whats up with XDA BTW I know I read some news the other day, like they cant sell software anymore?

The Maxx HD isn't available outside of Verizon Wireless, you will have to purchase one from the United States. If you're trying to stay in the ~400 EUR range, the older Maxx can't be beat when it comes to battery life but I'd really recommend the newer RAZR HD since the battery life is still very good and the performance is much better.

Hmm, that's disappointing. In the mean time, guess we'll just have to remember to shoot videos with the home button in the left hand.

I'm interested in this too. My father's debating between the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 for his next phone, and this will be another important factor to consider.

Hey guys, I just picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" (White) at Best Buy for Blackfriday. It was $179 plus I got a $20 gift card. Which I used on some Wii stuff for the wife.

Anyone use one of these tablets? I mostly got it on a whim. Figure I can flash it and play with it. Keep it on the coffee table for killing time, browsing, movies, Skype etc. Never used a tab before, mostly just use Captivate for killing time. I know it doesn't have an HD screen :( but I don't do much gaming. From what I understand the resolution sucks to be honest. Hopefully this won't ruin it for me.

Anyway, just looking for impressions of it. I'll probably open it when I get back to VA and have time this week. Of I don't like it, it'll probably hit the marketplace :p

Played around with the HTC Droid DNA while at work earlier in the week... and while the screen is stunning (as most of HTC's screens have been lately) I honestly could not see a difference between a 1080p SLCD3 screen and 720p SLCD2 screen. Really don't know if 1080p is all that necessary on a mobile phone... thought it sure is impressive as hell on paper

I didn't like the Tab 2 7" haptic feedback, felt kinda slow/disconnected. The Nexus 7 is fine, maybe it is just on the Tab. Of course it was stock ICS, perhaps different ROM it will run better.

The Note 2's pixel density is definitely sharp enough to avoid pixelation unless you're holding the phone about 4 inches/10 centimeters from your nose.

This is a pretty cool video of using the Note 2 as a makeshift PC, and a good presentation of what the Exynos 4212 can do with 2 GB RAM:

Do you have any issues with your S2's pixel density?

Small update - now keeping the S3 and the S3 Mini, unclear if we're getting the Note2s.

Ah good to know. So, it's pretty much an HD 5.5" GSII? (I believe it's the same PPI as the GSII)

@step, Sometimes, namely the App drawer has some visible pixelation even at >10cm away, but doesn't really "hurt" me.
