Epic Games finally released an Unreal Engine demo for Android:

The 130 MB free download gives you a free explore mode and a nice benchmark. The RAZR HD got 42.4 FPS average at 1196x720 resolution with CM10.1.

46FPS avg on High Quality performance level on 1280x720.
Agreed. Sony is starting to move in as the new premium design & feel company, with high end specs and (if I'm not mistaken) a MicroSD slot as well. HTC better be careful.
That white nexus looks so good! Would ramp up the LG factory needs! -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Man I wish I had a white Nexus 4. :\
-
So no one can report whether nexus 4 with 4.2 has external monitor setting?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
External monitor? IDK. Mirroring? Yes. Via Slimport. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Underclocked Nexus 4 = 54.3 @ 1196x768 with CM10.1 -
I thought about the Nexus 4. But I really like the TouchWiz UI on the Galaxy series. That and the fact I got my SGS3 for $74 out the door on Black Friday.
-
Nice! That's all GPU right there.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yep. I'm really interested to see what other SoC's bench... In particular, Exynos 4412 and a bench from a Fire HD. Mali400 always does bad in benches but it seems to more than hold its own in real life.
EDIT: LOL. Just saw where Phistachio posted his bench result on the Note II. Nice. I missed that a while ago. So Adreno 225 ~ Mali400 in 3D. That's not bad! Mali still pwns at 2D composition though. -
Darn, I thought it was true external monitor support (turn off your phone's screen). I am talking about "Secondary Display Support" in 4.2. It allows the developer to display a different UI on a second monitor. Sounds like Atrix lapdock to me. Here's the support document from Google, it's about mid way down the page.
Linky
I hope that means desktop like interface in the near future when connecting via MHL.
------------------------------
The Andreno 225 in my Galaxy S3 scored 46.4 in the Epic Citidal Benchmark, not bad, but not as good as your Nexus 4. haha -

Mainly what they're referring to there is Miracast. Kind of like Airplay for Android. BUT... I don't have a Slimport adapter, so I can't really tell you 100% whether it supports it or not via wire. I'll be getting an adapter here soon though, and I'll let you know.
How does Android 4.2 Jelly Bean wireless display mirroring work? - SlashGear
AnandTech - Hands on with the Analogix SlimPort microUSB to HDMI and VGA adapters
lol. Just re-ran the bench on normal clocks (1.5GHz) and I got a perfect 59FPS. Adreno 320 is beast, but I'll admit... I didn't expect the 225 to be so close. -
Thanks! That would be great. Oh wow, that's pretty awesome. Did you ran it on high performance or high quality mode? I discovered I actually ran it on high performance mode, on high quality I only get 42.6 which is still decent
But it show Adreno 320 is close to 50% improvement over Adreno 225. At first I thought "high performance" is a rating of my result haha
On a unrelated side note, if you have MHL enabled, the tech demo is capped at 30 fps. xD -
Switched mine to High Quality and now got 38.9 FPS, I'm consistently 4 FPS lower than Pai. My Adreno 225 is broke.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
How does one switch quality?
-
There's a cogwheel you can press when you pull down the tab in explore mode, although I'm not seeing much of a difference between the two presets.
In case anyone should be wondering, I still haven't replaced my old, Tegra 2-equipped LG P990. It's running CM10.1 without any further performance enhancements. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Time to go back to the Nexus 4.
-
I probably would if not for the Xperia ZL's imminent release in Canada. That phone is too enticing to pass up. Of all the manufacturers' Android skins, Sony's is by far the most elegant and doesn't impact the phone's performance.
-
Meh, there's no way any reviewer would show any interest in the ZL.

I'm not sure how availability in Europe will be. Expansys is the only site I've seen offering it for pre-order and they've now unlisted it for the UK.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
Actually.....I don't think your Adreno 225 is broken. I actually cheated again (gaps!), wmy andreno is clocked at 480 Mhz via KT474 kernel, which I forgot about until now. haha!
I think the default clock is 400 mhz? The developer didn't list the actual OC amount, but most kernel for TMO GS3 has it at 480. -
Yup! The Mali400 is a 2 year old GPU which still holds a nice humble crown on top. This SoC is still a beast CPU and 2D wise, but falls a bit short on 3D. It'll still hold more than enough power until the Exynos 5 octa Note 3 is released
Wow! Imagine how a SGX554MP3 on a Exynos 5 octa will perform
The ZL is such a beautiful phone... Totally agree on the skin, the Timescape UI is by far the most professional and non-intrusive skin of all. It's just so smooth. -
I love the Sony Xperia Z (black) & ZL (white). So beautiful. But I think pricing concerns will make me upgrade to a Nexus 4 rather than a Z/ZL. Especially if I can get the white Nexus 4 for $350... I hope Google decides to sell them directly.
-
Nice, at least you have kernel and OC option. The CyanogenMod developer for the RAZR HD doesn't want to unlock the CPU/GPU frequency tables until he's sure the ROM is 100% working.
-
What's the deal with the Xperia Z/ZL? Are there any plans to release either one stateside? Very nice looking phones.
-
Yeah my phone (Sprint Galaxy S II) hasnt had OCing on AOSP since Gingerbread or ICS. Only on Touchwiz ROMs... and who wants that? lol
-
Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!
(I love Touchwiz UX in case you didn't know
)
-
The S2 is still on TW4
-
Samsung pushed Touchwiz UX onto the ICS update for the Galaxy S II. But, I had TW3 and TW4 on my Epic 4G. Hated the phone but loved Touchwiz.
Hey if you all are allowed to be unwavering Apple fanboys, then I'm allowed to be a Touchwiz fanboy. -
Did they? My S2 on ICS only had a ICS'd TW4, but TW UX was only introduced in JB AFAIK.
-
Naw, there was a secondary ICS update (can't remember what prefix) brought some wifi fixes and Touchwiz UX, but this was only to the Sprint version I believe. I know all versions will be getting Touchwiz UX with the JB update.
-
I too like TouchWiz (and sense for that matter). I even liked TouchWiz on Win Mo...it had widgets before widgets were cool! Motorola's GB ui can go burn in a fire though.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2 -
TouchWiz makes Gingerbread look so, so much better than stock Android and patches up some shortcomings of the stock OS, so I'd argue that it was necessary at the time. But compared to stock Android in ICS and JB, TouchWiz is more visually distracting with its strange mixture of different textures and themes.
To me, though, the additional features that it brings still puts it above stock Android for a daily-use phone, however, which is why I just use Apex Launcher on top of a rooted 4.1.1 stock install. -
Yeah, i have to agree with that.
I used to not mind touchwiz and liked it a bit back when it was Froyo and Gingerbread.
Since the new UI overhual in ICS to Jelly Bean, the stock look is much better and more functional. It makes Touchwiz feel bloated. In my opinion of course. I do admit though, there are one or two touchwiz features that I do miss. -
I finally tried CM10.1 because I was tired of Verizon being way behind on GNex updates. Now I'm just upset that I didn't switch sooner.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Apparently, an-"droid" and Samsung are two different types of phones now.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I think I found your first problem. -
There's really no good options, imo. VZW is antiquated and slow with regards to handsets, ATT is even more expensive and has crappy service in my area, and Sprint is crappy AND slow.
-
I think I found your <del>first</del> only problem.
Fixed.
-
It's amazing how much of a name Samsung has built for itself. Ask a layman about Android, and the first question will likely be, "you mean like the Galaxy S3?" The Galaxy S line (and to a lesser extent the Note line) are now what represents the Android option in most people's minds. Few people think of the HTC, Motorola (I had an engineering friend ask me the other day whether Motorola still made BlackBerries) or any of the other OEMs.
-
Soon (and hopefully) Sony will be at that tier as well
. Can't wait to see their handsets rise in popularity. They learned their mistakes, and we are seeing good results. -
-
As Samsung showed everyone, not only is that contingent on producing solid, well-supported phones, but also on availability. I think the GS3's broad availability in near-identical form across all major US carriers really helped boost its adoption.
Sony needs to get their Z/ZL on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and too a lesser extent, Sprint as well. -
Indeed. Their latest updates have been really nice and add awesome features (premium suite on GS3 and Note 1, Note 2 with ink on screen, etc) and their being respected by that. Now add the release of all the source code, and they're the kings
LOL! Why do you think that way? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I know the same cannot be said for the entire world, but here in the US most people don't even know Sony makes phones... much less Android phones. -
Which part of my post are you referring to?
I have to say, I'm surprised Sony are still making phones and/or people are giving them a 3rd/4th chance.
They've ridden their luck well. -
I agree... at least in the US with the Galaxy SIII and the Note 2, by making it the same name/model across carriers... that has increased their profile with the consumer.
When my wife starts asking me about Samsung Galaxy phones... that's when know they have done something.
-
It almost bothers me more that Android was referred to as just "Droid". Droid is a specific line of phones dammit.
-
^ ha ha
10 cha chas!! -
I found someone that really wants a RAZR HD for AT&T and is obsessed with mine, so it may be going away pretty shortly.
Ordered this one below for $350 shipped.
I've seen the brand every now and then and they seem to be a low-end phone manufacturer, but the Quattro 4.5 HD might be their step into higher end devices. It's got a penta-band UMTS radio, so it'll work with any GSM carrier's 3G connection. I like the design, and it appears to be running a relatively stock Android.
Yes HAL, it's got a Tegra 3, but for $350 brand new it's not a bad deal. It'll come in tomorrow so I'll let you guys know how this non-mainstream device is. Can't be any worse than the One X+ ( stab).
