EricaL is your avatar supposed to be out of focus?.
OK , no problems
-
it's supposed to be out of focus.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but one app that I love on Android is Google Goggles. I was testing it out on my friend's Droid X and it was pretty darn neat.
-
Yeah, really excellent.
The best (and arguably most surprising) thing is that it works pretty much every time.
I took a photo of a Blackberry 9700 and it was able to identify the exact model which is pretty impressive given how similar the Blackberrys tend to look. -
I hate google goggles. Why? Because my dad used it to prove that covering the boxes bar code in sharpie wasn't good enough, and somehow someone somewhere would track the barcode and steal our identity...
The new news app with froyo is pretty sweet
-
Well, Sharpies are just felt pens, so of course they don't properly obliterate what's underneath.
You'd probably be better going at it with a biro or something more abrasive. -
Weird, I have 2.1 on my Samsung Galaxy and it runs so great!
-
Angry Birds BETA now on Android
Beautiful widgets

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
anybody played super KO boxing 2 , not a bad little free game , though it is a 54mb download.
-
I love the style of beautiful widgets.. I might get it...
And, off topic but still; boy the battery life on my Samsung galaxy is more than meh! I feel that it's gonna be a problem in a few months.. -
-android terminal emulator
-super user
-tapatalk is OK dunno if I think it was worth the money.
My epic 4g gets around 950ish rooted. Im not sure I would ever need to apply the lag fix as my phone runs crazy fast already. -

Does anyone know of an app or theme that locks your screen but still lets you see your homescreen?
I want to still have the cross swipe, but able to see my homescreen:

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
IDK? But it's worth a bump!
PS. I REALLY like that wallpaper, and (?)widget? -
how do you get your lock screen to look like that?

Yeah I have a Galaxy S from Bell and it has the worst battery life I've ever experienced. Awesome phone though, really like the front facing camera. -
I wish there was a good Omegle app for Android....:/

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
That's something I can honestly say I don't experience. What firmware and radio are you on? The JK3 radio with a JPA firmware gives me EXCELLENT battery. With WiFi on, and just browsing the web and the market for about 3-4hrs a day, a hundred or so txts, streaming 30-45mins of video and I still have at least 50% battery left. -
Tweetdeck is now my primary Tweeter+Facebook app. It's simple and it works. Another notable one is "Websharing", allows me to transfer everything via wifi.
-
My Galaxy S vibrant is running 2.2 Froyo now so the Quadrant score is about 1900 average with kernel lag fix.
Before that I ran a custom ROM 2.1 with overclock. Sometime quadrant score hit 2900
Stock 2.1 has ok battery life. Froyo has awesome battery life, head over to XDA-developers for more info
One thing to note that Samsung chose to use RFS for their phones, which is really slow and essentially prevents the phone from going with its full potential. There are a few kernel lagfix that change that, and the phone is extremely fast. -
Can we include games? So far I'm enjoying Zenonia and Caligo Chaser (I'm a sucker for Korean games). Also a very useful app is Swype keyboard. It makes typing very fast and easy.
-
I wish I could get Pocket Legends to install but it says not enough memory even though I have (had) 70MB spare

Well I'm on android 2.1 with the OCLF enabled..
I can last through a normal day but my battery gets down to about 7% charge before I go to sleep.
How come you have 2.2 ?
I want iit!!
I hit about 2300 on quadrant with the OCLF, which is pretty nice.. I'm not experiencing lags in my everyday tasks.. -
My full charge on my SGS usually lasts me 2 days with regular use. Im still on 2.1 JM3 baseband.
Check that there are no apps eating juice in the background. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I'm running the OCLF, was going to upgrade to the Froyo at XDA, but decided I would wait for the OTA update from Bell. -
Get over to XDA-developes forum, ther's a lot of ROMs out there, with a lot of different features and stuff. If you're not familiar with flashing your ROM and kernel and have time on your hand, and are willing to learn then shoot me a pm sometime, I can help you.
That's pretty impressive, I assume you have the international version?
It won't be any different really. Plus, there is kernel lag fix which is a much better lag fix than OCLF, not that it's bad by any means. But for me even with OCLF it still lags sometimes.
Also, there are stock FROYO firmware available for you to flash at any time. If you don't like it you can always go back. -
Not sure if thats any the international version, but its just called a Samsung Galaxy S over here.
Yes the battery life is actually quite impressive, its very convenient not having to plug it in everyday. I have my brightness always set to about 20% though and its still looks good. I find the phone only uses about 5% of power while im asleep. -
Does it look like this?
The hardware should not be different, however the US Galaxy S phones have less impressive battery life, except for Froyo. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
US versions are also lacking the front facing camera as well.
If I get impatient, I may install vanilla Froyo when it's ready. Someone over at XDA is working on it for the Galaxy S Vibrant, and other models. I don't think it's ready yet though, last I heard there were still some problems with the camera's among other little things. -
I have a Vibrant and I installed Obsidian V3 from Xda by Team Whiskey. It became my daily driver, everything work as intended. I get to use Flash and have speed boost from JIT.
The new V8 Javascript Engine made the webpages load so much faster. I use the phone mainly as a portable web device and Froyo is good on that front.
Battery Life is pretty impressive too, I watch 2 hours of video (1 hour of 720p TV shows loaded on the phone and approximately 45 minutes of flash videos. Web Browsing and Xda app, still lives me with 60% at the end of the day. -
I have advanced task killer and I always make sure I kill every apps possible!
Ugh, so I gotta get Froyo huh?
I'm gonna take a look at XDA developers forums I guess!
Thanks for the input!
Back on topic: Flight controller is one addictive game
-
I'm running the official JX6 2.2 froyo and I have been hearing about this Voodoo kernel thing. Can somebody please explain to me what it does and if it is recommended?
Phone: International SGS -
Need to update this badly. My new App list that I could not live without is:
Batterylife
Beautiful widgets
Connectbt (ssh client)
Terminal emulator (who can live without command line???)
AndroidVNC
ROM manager
root explorer
Superuser
SLingPlayer
Barnacle
Sprint Nav
DeskHome
Thinkfree Office
Stopwatch and timer
Pandora
screenshot
google maps
flickr free
color notes
samsung: application manager, gallery, touchwiz(not an app but still AWESOME!)
Tapatalk is cool and all but I have noticed that uploading pics makes them pixelated/blurry. If this gets fixed Ill use it for the forums that use it.
Non apps:
Clockwork recovery
noobnl root
waiting on a good rom when 2.2 comes (if it ever does) or maybe gingerbread if that comes sooner. Im not wasting my time on a 2.1 rom as Im not a fan of 2.1 anymore. -
Honestly dont use advanced task killer. It kills certain process that can hurt performance. Just use the samsung built in application manager as its MUCH MUCH better. It lists the apps running, packages, summary of resources and a help pane. It is harmless to use, free and comes with a very nice widget that warns you with color coding if youre using too many resources or eating too much battery.
-
Once you use Froyo, there's no need for task killer anymore
-
Flight controller is a great game.
Indeed, I really don't see too much of a point in task killers; that is, even on my old HTC Magic with low ram. -
Well I hate how specific programs are always running even though I never use them.. GPS Navigator for example..
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Get you a custom ROM that gets rid of them all together, or get ROOT and a file explorer and delete the app from /system/app.
Be careful with that last one though.
-
Could you take some screenshots of your custom ROM?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Sure
Attached....
EDIT: That first linpack was the old ROM, this one is updated..Attached Files:

Thanks! It looks nice!
Though I'm afraid of bricking my phone by loading a custom ROM
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Thanks!
Usually though, unless the ROM flashes a modem also, the chances of bricking are VERY low. The modem is the most dangerous one, but both have been made into a pretty easy process.
-
Ok I see.. And what would be the the risk if I decide to get Android 2.2 on XDA forums?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Just follow the directions and your pretty much golden. It's step-by-step simple.
And the 2.2 ROM's are awesome. My ROM is actually a modified GT-i9000 ROM with a custom kernel. The ROM you choose will come with it's own kernel already packaged in though, so that's nothing you have to worry about. Also, an updated modem comes with the ROM. It's all a quick one flash process. Also, if you want the fool proof stock 2.2...
look for the ODIN stock froyo versions.
EDIT: You do need to disable the OCLF before doing any modding or flashing though.
