Even if you brick it, it's still easy to fix. I've bricked my phone for who knows, a dozen times already.

Download mode. It's awesome. Even when you thought you've been bricked... it'll save your phone.

I thought that Verizon had Samsung make file system changes before releasing the Fascinate version of the Galaxy S, but my stepmom keeps saying her phone is "super slow."

Would applying the "one click lag fix" do any good, and is it safe to do so on CDMA devices?

Yeah still no 2.2 rollout for the epic 4g. Kinda upset as it was supposed to rollout in september or october at the latest.

You could get rid of those apps, but honestly having them run will not slow down your phone. I typically keep 5-10 things running at all times on my epic 4g and I never see it slow down.

Im assuming you got a custom rom for it?

AFAIK, OCLF applies to all Galaxy S devices. It's carrier agnostic. RyanZA's OCLF specifically states Fascinate support, but it's also $1.99.

EDIT: I forgot to answer your other question... Yes! It most certainly does work though. It creates a loop-back EXT2 partition that boosts file OP's significantly.

Yeah, It's the Obsidian ROM by Team Whisky at Xda, it's based on leaked Vibrant Froyo base. It's really stable, so it became my daily driver.

I used the Version 3, because all the other version above 3 has some type of risky/pushing the limit mods that I don't think will be good for my phone.

I used Voodoo, it converts the whole /data folder to Ext4, but it's alot more risky than Ext2 (aka OCLF), you need to disable it before flashing anything else otherwise you will get a brick.

This is actually probably a good place to ask.

I use my phone as an alarm clock but because I work varying hours, I'm forever having to adjust the alarm(s) to fit my working patterns.
So I was wondering if there was an app that would allow me to fill in my various shifts in a calendar format and then automatically sound the alarms at suitable times based on that.

I know that I can kind of do what I'm after with the standard G-Cal app but since you have to manually add the reminders for each event, it's a bit long-winded. What I'm after is something a little... lazier - I mark the day as being one when I'm working, set the time my shift starts and it sets up the reminders for me.
Or maybe there is a way to do that with G-Cal and I'm just not aware of it ( I've never used it before, so that could well be true).

Anyway, if anyone can shed a little light on matters for me, I'd very much appreciate it.

When I have weeks like that, I make my itinerary out in calendar.google.com. Instead of making each reminder out as an event, I set it as a task, that way if I don't specifically acknowledge it on my phone it reminds me multiple times like an alarm.

See, I'd need more than that.
I'd just end up acknowledging it the first time then rolling over and falling asleep again.

I'll examine G-Cal a bit more though, clearly it has un-tapped potential.

On the Motorola Droid (and I assume any stock device) you can set a seemingly unlimited number of alarms (and set which days for them to activate) via the "clock" application.

App Drawer -> Clock -> Menu hardkey -> Add Alarm (depending on how motoblur has skinned the clock application you may see a "Desk Clock" icon in the app drawer...)

Yeah, I'm aware I can just keep adding new alarms but then I'd need to manually set each of them which is what I'm trying to avoid.

There's a distinction between unlimted "access" and unlimted "internet". The carrier goes with the former definition. I am not too sure what the artificial cap is for Verizon, try googling it. For T-Mobile, it is 5 GB, once you pass 5 GB, T-Mobile will slow you down to a crawl (TMobile is different in that they decides to slow you down oppose to charging you). Verizon may do overage charge so definitely look it up.

In that case you are pretty lucky, I heard/read about people getting throttled by T-Mobile. I never hit 5 GB though, so I can't say for sure personally.

What did you do on a phone that uses up 10 GB? lol, tethering? My average use per month is 300-400 MB.

I dipped out on Verizon this week and went to Virgin Mobile. Got a Samsung Intercept running Android 2.1...honestly, it's a lot buggier than I expected. My notification bar keeps failing to show up, requiring a restart of my phone to fix, and it's generally very slow. Sometimes actions can take a good 15 seconds to register after I touch something, usually when it involves large lists (like navigating my contacts list, even though there's only 60-some entries, or going through messages).

I haven't really installed any apps besides Facebook and Pandora. Is there anything that might help this run a little smoother?

You, sir, need to look here. Sounds like you're experiencing typical Samsung Android issues. Samsung can make stellar hardware, but they suck at software. Those people are seeing around 8.5Mflops from Linpack with their custom ROM's!

EDIT: Just make sure to read their memos about which ROM is for Sprint and which is for Virgin Mobile!

Personally, I don't see why security is needed if you get most of your apps from the Market, and only sideload the ones you trust from places like XDA. Android for the most part is pretty secure. It's kinda like OSX, where the malicious software out there has to be manually installed by the end user.

So I guess I'm saying, just be smart about your apps, and you shouldn't need security. :)

I used lookout for a while, How's Norton doing on your Droid? I dumped lookout because the virus scanning portion seemed to be a bit superfluous and kinda slowed the phone down.

I uninstalled it, for the reason being that it scanned pretty much everything i did, and it was annoying. it was a free trial, so i just ditched it.

I downloaded google Tracks and it kind of does the tracking thing.

A good choice you made there, constantly scanning and accessing your Flash disk in your phone will kill it faster than Chuck Norris can finish a fight.

Besides, Virus for Mobile Phone is not that common yet, not that they don't exist.

Download a task manager like Autokiller, and look and see if there's an app going in the background called "calendarstorage" after looking at your calendar. If not try re-starting. If it's running end it, and the calendar app and try loading the Calendar again and try adding an event again.

If neither of those work, post back. :)

OK, sorry for the late replay. When i went to see if that would work i got my phone out of my bag, and felt that it was super Hot, Hot to the touch. didnt think anything of it so i trie turning it on and it didnt turn on. again is didnt think anything of this because i was in my basement and i dont have service down here, so i thought that the battery was drained. Here comes the problem; i plugged it into my computer and it said it cant start becuase of lack of power? it just stayed on that screen, then i went and got my wall charger and when i plugged it in it turned on, and had a message it was checking my SD card, it did that fine, then my Task killer came up ( it never does ). so after maybe like 15 sec of being on it would turn off and start that process over. ???????
