NICE!! Yay! 1000 Posts!
Give me about 10-15 minutes and I'll have you a zip installer up...![]()
EDIT: JVK Camera Fix - Download Here
Drop that on your internal SD and flash it like you would flash a ROM.Then your camera should be working... Granted you've uninstalled SGSTools.

Happy 1000 posts, Android thread XD
VNC Server update: Alright I have it installed on my phone and fire it up...turns out VZW blocks VNC from working over 3G, so I have to connect via USB. One issue...I always have trouble installing ADB...always. I never know exactly what to do, what to download, what to install from that download, etc...
Any decent guides? -
2.2 is supposed to be out for the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile today...it's about 3AM EST, and nothing yet.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
WiFi? That's how I'm doing mine.
About ADB, are you wanting the whole shebang?
Android SDK | Android Developers
Download the installer exe and you can install the ones I have highlighted below, or just all of them, but be prepared... all of them takes a while, and a bit of HDD space.
What's circled is the location where the tools and toolsets are located. What's highlighted is recommended, and the top two are necessary because they have ADB.
After you get done with installing the SDK, I'd suggest you add ADB to the system path so you won't have to "cd" all over the place in a cmd prompt. To do that try this...
Go to your system properties for Vista/7 and look on the left side for "Advanced System Settings". Now go to the "Advanced" tab, and at the bottom for a button labeled "Environment Variables". Find the variable for "Path"... select it and hit "Edit". Go all the way to the end of the line and type this...
For x64 -*Make sure to include the semicolon to separate the new entry.*Code:;C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\
For x86 -Then save all that and close out of all that.Code:;C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\
Now plug your phone into your computer, making sure your phone is in debug mode. Open a cmd prompt and type "adb devices". ADB Daemon should start immediately, the list all the devices that are recognized and plugged in.
Have fun!

Thanks a lot HAL for your time and effort, sadly it still doesn't work.
No big deal though, with all these new ROM based on 2.3.3 I was thinking about changing!
Do you have any recommendation about which one I should get?! I really need more battery life, TurboGinger was pretty rough on it! -
The thing about Wi-Fi is I'm still at school, so while we have wi-fi and there's a wifi access point in my dorm building...I can barely see it via phone (or PC for that matter) from my apartment...Plus IDK if it'll actually work. I'll give it a shot though.
EDIT: It works! Awesome! Thanks for the instructions Hal! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
So today I rooted my Incredible and installed CM7 for the first time. Was kind of scary, but got it done and am now playing with it.
-
Nevermind it works HAL! Thanks again!
Though I'm still looking for a new ROM! If any of you have a suggestion tell me! -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
CM7 is awesome! I'm running it for the Galaxy S, and while it's not merged with mainline yet... I have to admit, it's impressive!
WTH?! ROFL.
Nice! I was thinking unless it's something else causing the camera to not work, it should have worked..LOL.
If battery life is necessary, you'd have to go back to Froyo. XWJS8 is really great on battery, especially with hardcore's speedmod kernel. For Froyo, try Darkyy's 9.5.... it's pretty awesome for Froyo! -
hahaha i know XD
On a serious note, this game is awesome

Lucky B******.
SE Rep? Is it out officially in the UK? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
There are prerequisites. You have to know at least basic Java or C, so start with those, then progress to Android.
-
Says you who was given a Galaxy S
The Arc isn't technically mine - I had to sign an agreement that states it's legally the property of SE and they can take it back at any time...
I'll answer the second question first...
Yes, it was released a week or so ago but stock is really limited - there's none in black in CPW's warehouse, though we sell the silver one too.
It's a scheme SE have for employees of mobile phone retailers - their initial aim is to have one person in every store up and down the country who's involved in this. These people are expected to enthuse about SE handsets, to help customers and other staff members and to generally try and help sales for SE.
The carrot is a free phone, the ability to earn points which can be redeemed for prizes and if you shine, you potentially get given tickets to gigs or football matches or even get taken to CES.
edit: Jason, you remember you posted up a file to block adverts without having to install AdFree Android - does that need the handset to be rooted to work? -
took a few classes on C++ and just started to use classes... thats pretty much my knowledge
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL... I got a replacement Captivate. I wish it were an i9000. But that's awesome about the SE program! Us and them (SE) are still not the best of friends, and I don't see that improving very soon.
I heard the reason for the limited stock was because of the Japan quake/tsunami?
About the Ad-Free hosts file, it doesn't require you to be rooted so much as just having ClockworkMod Recovery installed. It's a CWM zip package installer. I can sign it though and then you can flash it from SE's stock.
Ok... Now read up on Java.
You can download Smali/Baksmali and decompile some apps/frameworks and such and see how things are laid out to get an idea.
-
Yeah but it's yours - I have to give this back if I stop working for CPW.
It really is.
I was surprised how easy it was to qualify to get the free phone too - though I wonder if some of the people who have been given the free handsets won't end up ruining it for the rest of us...
Yeah - it's also why the Neo hasn't been released yet.
Technically, as I'm not an existing member of this scheme, I should've gotten a Neo and not an Arc but because there are no Neos available yet, everyone tonight got Arcs!
ClockworkMod requires me to be rooted, doesn't it?
The Arc hasn't been rooted yet... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Well, technically yes and no. It hasn't been confirmed to work on the Arc, but you can flash an update.zip from stock recovery to install CWM. BUT... I would wait.
IDK if Ad-Free from the Market has been fixed for apps like Words with Friends... but it essentially does the same thing. -

My CM7 main home screen (yes I am a poor college student):

So, basically, either way I'm best waiting 'til it's rooted?
I have to say, I like Timescape. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
What are you using for bubble notifications?
Yep.
What about Mediascape? I haven't messed with any new SE's with Gingerbread... -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Nice homescreen, what calendar widget are you using?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Mediascape technically no longer exists, though elements of it have been carried over into the music player on the new Android handsets.
To be honest, I'm not the guy to ask, I've never used any of my phones for music - I have a 64GB Sony ( not SE) Walkman.
I'm not sure whether or not to keep the stock launcher.
It's not bad, though it lacks certain features I like about LauncherPro. It's really quick though, the whole UI seems really responsive - plus at first glance the screen gives the one on the Nexus S a bit of a run for it's money... -
Thanks Jaya!
Duuude, HAL! Thanks for the custom build number, now I look like a pro!
-
Bah, don't seem to be able to use the TimeScape widget with LauncherPro - boo!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Lol. I was wondering when you'd notice that.
LOL.. I've been using the Arc's Launcher for a while now. Somebody posted it at XDA. I have to admit, it's smooth. And I like the way it works. But I still like launcher2 the best. -
The whole phone is smooth, it really is a great piece of kit.
It's just a shame the stock launcher is so basic, I need more control that if offers me.
I've never heard of Launcher2... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Grab "Gingerbread Launcher" by Eugene373 off the Market. That is Launcher2. It's the default Nexus launcher. -
Pass.
Wasn't impressed with the stock launcher on the Nexus S. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yea... It's not that great features wise. But it is as smooth as glass... and that's why I use it..lol.
I can't find a launcher that has features I like that's also smooth. They don't exist. -
I've never had any problems with LauncherPro and it's closest to what I'd call perfect.
The only things it lacks are the ability to divide up the app drawer and a translucent background for the app drawer.
Beyond that it's got everything I think. -
Does AT&T have ANY good prepaid data plans? 1MB $4.99, 100MB's $19.99.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope. We have to keep up our reputation...
For decent prepaid data, try Virgin Mobile... They seem to have a following for their prepaid data plans. -
LOL 10Char.
But I'm looking to switch to AT&T in about 2 months. Was hoping for a couple gigs for around $20. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Only on contract.... and then it's $25 for 2GB. $15 for 200MB. -
I'll vouch for VM.
How's unlimited data (and unlimited texting, plus 300 minutes) for $25 a month with no contract sound?
-
I looked into Virgin Mobile, but I'm in central Alabama, and the service looks spotty at best.
-
Whats wrong with T-Mobile?
-
I read that AT&T is planning on slowly changing the T-Mobile towers over to their 3G bands. No 3G for T-Mobile smartphones
-
Yeah but thats not for a looooong time lol. Will probably be 1 and a half years until it happens.
-
I'm trying to leave T-Mobile while I can still sell my Vibrant. After people find out it can't be used with 3G, I'll be lucky to get $60.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
T-Mobile's 3G bands will remain lit for several years. We can't transition a whole network and millions of handsets over 1-1.5 years. It would be pandemonium.
Until the merger is complete, we can't even think about it. Then, even after for at least 2 years. -
Ok, I'm staying with T-Mobile.
-
Why do so many people think this?
It's the bleedin' US, if they tried that they'd get sued into oblivion. -
Why shouldn't people think this? Kinda make sense.
