Thanks! I try to keep 'em fresh.![]()
That sure sounds like a hardware issue if I've ever heard one. Unless your phone has been sitting in direct sunlight or under a heatlamp, it should never be hot to the touch. Have you tried resetting the firmware back to oem? I'm not sure of the process for the original droid, but most motorola phones can be re-flashed with RSDLite and a proper SBF image.

OK, i took the battery out, deleted task killer ( i was told that the task killer was shutting off my phone ) then after hours of not using the battery i put it in, didnt work at first. then several hours later i looked and it was 100% charged lol. soo all is good, thank you !!!!!!!!!!!
on that note ive found the best game EVER !
[GAME] - Spaghetti Marshmallow -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
That can certainly happen... taskkillers are often times dangerous if you end the wrong process or the app becomes unstable or is corrupted. It can end the androidsystem process necessitating a restart, or like if the taskkiller app is corrupted it can be auto ending that system process or service, throwing you into a boot loop. Which taskkiller were you using BTW? I recommend autokiller if you have root, and know which processes to end. Either that or "spare parts" from the market and set your memory management to aggressive. When memory management is set to aggressive it keeps more RAM free, and it auto ends apps from running in the background if they're sucking up too many system resources. Its pretty nifty.
But I'm glad you got it back to working! You might want to completely charge and discharge that battery though, just for maintenence.

After christmas i think im going to get a new Droid( the X ?) so ill roll with this till then lol
-
Hehe, the spaghetti and marshmallow game is great

I seriously think you should just re-flash that phone. It seems to have some pretty good software errors. Use Titanium Backup and backup your apps, and sync your contacts with Google and flash that sucker. Flashing won't touch anything on the SD card if you have one.
Here is the link for the 2.2 retail SBF image. It's build FRG22D.
Here is the link for RSDLite. This is the app that will flash the SBF image to your phone.
Now see if you have the latest USB drivers from Motorola.
Before following these instructions, you need to make sure your battery is charged to at least 75% or more.
Now switch your phone off, and with a charged battery, open the keyboard and press and hold the Up D-Pad key while pressing the power button. Hold that there for a sec until you get into USB Init mode. Now open RSDLite as Admin. Now connect the phone to your computer and wait while Windows installs the basic chipset drivers. After they install, you'll see the phone information pop up in RSDLite. Select the SBF file you downloaded and click start. It should go through a couple of steps and it will restore your phone back to it's OEM state. RSDLite reformats the internal NAND so this is a COMPLETE fresh start, not just a factory reset from within Android.
You'd be surprised just how many issues re-flashing will completely fix. -
FYI for audiophiles, turns out the Samsung Galaxy S supports line out. It uses Wolfson chipset.

-
How would that work? Through the charger port? (mini-usb)
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope, through the headphone jack. The Wolfson DAC senses OHM loads for whatever is plugged into the jack and sets it's output accordingly for either line-out or headphones. -
^ Yes this.
Still from the 3.5mm jack, it just detects a line level device through impedance.
I read it from here:

Can't seem to search the thread to see if it's been mentioned, so I'll just ask.
Anyone got an opinion on 'Handcent'? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Personally I use GO SMS. It's free and lightweight.
PS... if you go with a 3rd party SMS app, go into the default one and look in it's settings and disable notifications. -
Its got a pretty decent GUI...I've used it for some time, I kinda like the chat style form of the messages. It's worth trying.
Regards. -
Anyone know of good medical apps?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Search the market for anything from "Skyscape". I have friends that are doctors that love those apps. -
Will note that (when I get my Google phone in April)
No one seems to be at Brighthand

android.net
Just opened.
-
@sgogeta: there are plenty of well-supported Android fora out there, you'd be better off heading to one of them IMO.
-
Checking it out.
Any suggestions on good forums for Android info? I just check out Phone Arena and Brighthand right now. -
XDA-devs is always a strong contender for the best place to go, provided they have a section set up for the phone you have.
MoDaCo seems to be pretty good too, though I don't head over there as often.
I'm sure HAL can recommend a few more good places. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Aside from what's been mentioned, that's about the best ones... Since IDK if Verizon Wireless applies to Canada (pretty sure that's a no), there's the Droidforums.net. Step666 hit 'em both. The android.net is a practically new site. We just opened to the public about 2 days ago... -
When I get my phone in April, I'll be using Verizon in NYC. In Toronto, it will use Telus' network. Android.net seems very new and some threads... yeah... not exactly helpful (yet, I hope!)
Droid X! -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Ok... so if you have a Galaxy S phone and have thought headphone output was kinda on the low side, go get one of the new kernels with Voodoo Sound and see what your phone can _really_ do. It's simply amazing... The Wolfson DAC has a built in 1W amp, and OMG... now you can use it!
EDIT: Oddly enough, now my phone sounds better than any notebook I own. Go figure.
-
Oh wow, i havent updated my phone for so long. Im still on 2.1 JM5 but after seeing that i might upgrade..
The 2.2 update wont show on samsung kies. Apparently i need to undo the one click lag fix before i flash to a newer version.
How did you update and what backup app did you use? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I built my own ROM.
Have been for a while. The kernels with Voodoo sound are only for 2.2 or 2.2.1. If you're still on 2.1, get on it flipfire!
2.2 is stable as a rock on all the GSM devices.
For backing up apps, Titanium Backup. For TXT's, SMS Backup and Restore. For call logs, Call Log Backup and Restore.
^Those are all free, and awesome apps. Especially the SMS Backup app. -
Yeah i just havent had time to read up on how to flash to froyo without bricking it. Apparently i need to undo a few things before i flash.
This time i want to update it using the the samsung app and download the official firmware for my carrier but the update is not showing up. It just says cannot be updated
help me out here lol -
Are you running a custom ROM now? That may prevent Kies from accepting the update for your phone? I'm just guessing, I have a Motorola Droid and it never gets updated via PC like Samsung's doing.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
2.2 hasn't been officially pushed by Samsung yet. That's why.
To use Voodoo Sound you'd have to load a custom ROM... For the moment anyways. -
I downloaded JM5 from here Samsung Android - www.SamFirmware.com and flashed it using Odin, then did the one click lag fix and rooting.
How do i get a custom ROM? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
What is the exact model of your phone?
-
Samsung Galaxy S i9000
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Try Doc's ROM Kitchen. It's the latest January build of Froyo 2.2.1 XWJS3. Or XXJPY which I'm actually running on my Captivate now. When you get to select a kernel, select "Hardcore's" kernel.
Here's mine..
-
I don't really like downloading apps because I don't want a lot of them to take up memory and resources, but this one caught my eye: Lookout.
It's a free mobile security app that does several cool things like protect against malware & spyware, privacy advisor (lets you know what apps have access to your private data), remote lockout (in case you lose your phone, you can go online and lock your information away from anyone who may find it), backup (photos, call log, contacts, etc), and even a missing device function that can locate your phone should you leave it somewhere or misplace it - has a scream alarm (activated even if your phone's on vibrate), a wipe data option that will purge all data, and a remote lock function.
Some of the services are available only on premium ($2.99/mo or $29/yr). I fell in love with it right away and opted for the premium.
Link is here -
That site looks excellent. What do i use to flash the ROM?
Also speedmod is lagfix yes? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
After you configure your ROM, you flash it with ClockworkMod recovery from ROM Manager... in the market for free.
The custom ROM it gives you, just drop it on your internal SD, boot into clockwork mod, and select "flash zip from SD". Then after installation, the Voodoo Control App is in the market for free, to control the sound.
Actually the lagfix is not even necessary anymore.
Froyo is very smooth without it. But yes, it's configurable in clockworkmod.
EDIT: I really highly recommend the WIPE version. -
Ok so i cooked up "Doc's XWJS3_Wipe v9.1.3 ROM, with a OPS CSC, using hardcore's kernel, coupled with a DTJP3 modem."
Do i need to undo my one click lag fix or rooting before i try this? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yes. Undo the lagfix before starting... otherwise you'll have to ODIN back to a usable state. You can leave the root, it doesn't matter... the internal partitions get wiped when the new ROM installs. -
The undoing of the lag fix screwed the phone. i did a recovery which worked. now im just having problems signing into the marketplace to download clockwork
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Main reason I never liked the One-Click Lagfix. It converts your partitions to EXT2... but it also creates loop-back paths for DB_DATA, CACHE_FS, and DATA_FS. Loop-backs are SOOOO easily corruptible it's ridiculous, but they give you crazy Quadrant numbers.
ODIN is your friend.
-
yeah lucky i got past that.
Any chance you can send me the apk to rom manager?
Google marketplace wont sign into my gmail for some reason even though i can surf google in the browser
EDIT: okay all fixed now. After a factory reset theres a big where you cant log into marketplace, so you log in using youtube instead.
Installing ROM now... -
Weird the clockmod options dont show up in my recovery mode even though it installed properly...
EDIT:Okay thats sorted, i just had to fix permissions in ROM manager.
Gosh so much troubles just to upgrade to froyo. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Interesting. Sometimes you have to "re-install packages" twice from Samsung's recovery. On the second time around it reboots into clockworkmod. Don't exactly know why. -
Okay all done sweet. Just restoring some apps and settings now
Thanks for your help HAL -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Awesome! Glad you got all of it sorted out!
-
flipfire just got off a flashing rampage heh?
hahaha
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's addicting! I've made 2 ROM's so far for the community, and I'm about to release my 3rd.
-
Yeah haha, all worth the troubles.
About the lag fix, im only getting 1200 now compared to 2200. While it doesnt lag or anything id still like to crank the filesystem performance.
can i still do the clockworkmod lag fix you talked about?
