Holy..................................................................

Seeing as how this is the first phone that made me consider Android...I've got a couple of questions:
1. Does the lower screen-resolution bother you? In comparison to an iPhone 4s, which I'm assuming you've come across, how does it stack? The lower res is really the only thing holding me back.
2. Regarding the OC, how did that affect battery life and was it difficult to do? Is there noticeable speed improvements? Would it be safe to do if you plan on keeping it for 2-3 years?
Thanks man. I'm going to wait until the iPhone 5 and then compare...but something tells me it won't/can't top this. Oh by the way, how's the quality? I know Samsung mainly uses plastics...does it feel like an $800 phone? -
I'm not.
I'm not just saying that, when Jason posted the picture, I just wasn't bothered.
I guess I'll be skipping the Galaxy S2 then... -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope. Actually, it's not bothered me a bit. I have an iPhone 4 I got as a gift, and while, yes it's nice to have the densest PPI on a mobile device, it wears off after 2-3 days when you realize that it's just 3.5". Seriously, after coming from larger devices, I can't ever go back to 3.5". Plus the GS2's S-AMOLED+ is the most amazing thing to watch movies on EVER. Watching a darker (movie set at night) movie, it's like watching it for the first time. You'll see things you've never seen before.
It didn't affect it as much as I thought it would. I had it on the conservative CPU governor, and it only hits 1.5GHz when I'm benching it. Otherwise the most I ever see it get up to is around 800MHz... and everything is still buttery smooth.
There's the thing. If you're used to coming from something with an aluminum unibody, like the HTC phones... or an iPhone 4, the GS2 is going to feel cheap. And I'll admit the back panel cover is pretty cheap. BUT, overall feel of the device with the battery in and the back cover snapped on, it feels like a phone that you could accidentally drop and it would bounce... Not crack into a million pieces, a la iPhone 4. -
Thx for answering those questions...much appreciated.
-
Completely agree with the point that I bolded. When I first saw the iphone 4's screen I was impressed at the pixel density, but the size and the fact that it was still LCD technology made it so the screen never blew me away. Honestly even though It is pentile i much prefer the first gen SAMOLED and even my 3.7 inch amoled screen on my nexus one.
-
I just found the GS2 for 499.99€ ( blocked )... Only 50€ more expensive than the Arc
But still I won't get it, because it's still too expensive... I'll just hope there is a pos-paid plan that reduces the price by 50€ ( the arc has it, it costs 400€ instead of 450€ with that plan ), which will get the GS2 to cost 450€, which will he inside the budget
-
honestly why do you even need a smartphone? You are 14...
-
seriously. I didn't even need a phone or want one until I was 16. And I still don't own a smartphone.
-
I got a phone when i was 11, and a smartphone when i was 14. So i cant blame him
-
I suppose it depends on what part of the world you're in. I'm in a peaceful little suburb, not much reason to have one here.
-
Because I do need it. I browse a lot, text a lot and message a lot. And as I travel a lot, I need entertainment, GPS ( sometimes ) and a good camera.
I'm 14, but I ain't like those 14YO that spend their life on the mall going out with girls and playing COD all day. I barely have time to play games now, as I need to practice/train/reherse piano A LOT, specially with all the requirements on me. -
Hmm, my Arc has decided my memory card is damaged and needs reformatting.
This isn't good. -
By the way, how's the audio quality through the 3.5mm jack on the Galaxy S II? If anything, I mainly use my iPhone as an iPod so audio quality through my earphones is important... GSMArena said it's quality is "decent" but seems compares to the iPhone's it's a lot worse...
-
Bah, had to format the card - lost some apps and my widgetlocker theme.
Not happy. -
Why did that happen? Bug?
-
No idea.
Phone switched itself off because of low power and when I switched it back on, it said the memory card was possibly damaged and would need to be formatted.
I stuck it in a reader to see if I could retrieve the data and my PC couldn't see it either, at which point I couldn't be bothered messing around and formatted it. -
Yes, this is the OT section, but that doesn't mean you can be any more rude or condescending than you can in the other sections of NBR. If you have nothing nice or helpful to say, leave it in your head. Posts have been deleted, so you know who you are--this is the last friendly warning.

^Interesting. I guess I missed something.
I believe it formats your memory card as FAT32.... I could see corruption from a battery pull...
-
It wasn't a battery pull, I let the battery run down a little too much and the phone powered down automatically.
My Arc's battery occasionally lurches and drops quite a bit and I've been caught out a couple of times before but it's never screwed up the card before.
I guess I'll just need to start making backups... -
I need an app that reminds me when i forget to turn off my tethering hotspot so i dont drain my battery...............

Don't you have an icon in your notification bar? -
Yeah but if i forget its on... its usually because its off in my pocket

NVIDIA's quad-core Kal-El used to demo next-gen mobile graphics, blow minds (video) -- Engadget
Pretty impressive stuff. If the nexus 3 has the tegra 3 and 720p screen as rumored... it will be pretty epic -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Damn. Quad core CPUs and GPUs
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Make Tegra 3 a die shrunk dual-core with NEON extensions on both cores, and an enhanced GPU... and put that in a Nexus 3 with a 720p screen. That would sell.
From what I've heard, LG will be the OEM... -
Honestly I just hope it isn't HTC. They always cut corners on at least one component. Will be interesting to see what LG does with it.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
True. HTC makes durable phones, but they seem to suffer from component issues. Case in point.... the Nexus One/Desire multitouch controllers.
LG seems to be cutting corners in software development. Namely: Android driver support. The G2x is just riddled with bugs. I've had my time with one and I was NOT impressed. IDK if it's just Tegra 2, or what... but bugs bugs bugs. -
Yeah, the nexus one is a great example. I still love the phone, but the touchscreen issues can be frustrating. HTC also tends to put in terrible external speakers. I also have no idea why they put a VGA front cam on the sensation... just odd choices. Another huge gripe I have with htc is the fact that even their current flagship (the sensation) only has 1gb internal memory. They just skimp on random, but important things.
In regards to your point about LG, yeah... the g2x issues have been pretty ridiculous. I don't think that will be an issue though if it is a nexus device. Could be interesting. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
One of many reasons I love that Samsung makes decent high end phones. They also manufacture NAND and their own camera modules.
True. Google will be behind the software. -
-
Lol. Samsung teases the SGS3 before the SGS2 is released in states...
Engadget -
Not really surprising... the gs2 launched in the first half of this year, only makes sense for the pattern to continue. Don't see anything "lol" worthy here.
-
Yeah, HTC's corner cutting even goes back to the Win Mo days. (TyTN graphics driver issues anyone?) It was far less prevalent though, nothing like Evo screen issues, the nexus one stuff hal mentioned, etc.
Sometimes I think it's a case of growing too fast.
Shame to hear about the G2x issues, I've heard the Optimus 2X was a bit buggy and I thought that by using stock Android, LG would be able to avoid many bugs -
Not surprising that they are releasing a phone next spring, I just thought they'd hold off until they actually released their next one everywhere else first, bad marketing. -
They are not marketing it. It was casually hinted at by samsung.. they didnt announce that the phone was coming out. It is assumed that there will be a follow up each year. Nothing weird at all about this.

Free plants vs zombies on amazon app store!
-
Hah i was waiting for this!
-
Some SGSII phones are having yellow tint problems. HAL have you seen any signs of this (or anyone else who has access to one lol)? I hope it doesn't affect many handsets and goes away like on the iPhone.
-
Incompatible with my piece of s*** phone >_<
-
Aw, that sucks mastershroom... I love that game!
I guess I'll go with the Xperia arc route afterall. I will buy the NGP for portable gaming, and the Arc for calls
-
Will it let you "purchase" it and "download" it? Ie: save to your amazon account, so if/when you upgrade, you still have it for free?
-
I can't work out how to make UOT Kitchen work with my Arc
-
I think he may mean incompatible on a hardware level. That phone has an odd type of GPU IIRC.
-
And he means to "purchase" it so it's on his account, so when he upgrades to a new phone he can still have it for free.
-
ah now i get it
nevermind.
-
Nope. When I click the app icon itself to view the description or just try to buy it, a pop-up incompatibility message comes up, and if I hit back to get rid of it, it goes back to the Amazon app store home page.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Buy it from the online store.
Should work no matter.
