I thought this was pretty cool: OnLive Player app for iPad and Android tablets meets the public at E3 (update: hands-on) -- Engadget
Basically, onlive added a basic touchscreen overlay (so you can play without the wireless controller). So rts games could be very playable without the controller (dow2 comes to mind).
Since onlive is gearing this towards tablets (i've seen no reports of it coming to non-tablets), I'm hoping some dev can rip it out and give it to regular smartphones when it gets released. -

So I finally got Spare Parts working; I had to delete the pre-installed copy of it from my ROM and re-install it from the Market. Now it runs, but it won't let me set the WiFi sleep policy. The three options are Android default, never while plugged, and never. I tried to set it to never sleep while plugged in, but it keeps reverting to Android default as soon as I close Spare Parts. Telling it to never put WiFi to sleep doesn't work either.
Looks like I'm stuck only being able to use it while the screen's on, unless anyone else has ideas? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
To change the WiFi Sleep Policy, have you tried going to Wireless and Networks --> WiFi Settings --> then press the menu key and tap advanced?
It should let you set the WiFi sleep policy there without needing Spare Parts for it. -
There are no "advanced" options (menu key does nothing), and there's no such option in the main WiFi settings menu.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Gosh. They've really stripped a LOT of features out of your Android build. I've never seen a phone that didn't have that. Even the Moto Backflip had that...
-
Would that still be the case even though I'm running a custom ROM?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The actual menu setting is buried in Settings.apk in /system/app. So if your ROM dev didn't include it, yes, that's a possibility. -
Samsung Galaxy S II confirmed for July touch down at Verizon - Phone Arena
I hope it comes in time for the fourth of July weekend! Though I'm disappointed that it has not LTE connectivity. Hope they got that part wrong...
edit: false alarm
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-said-to-be-verizon-bound-in-july/
Update: We just received word from a Verizon spokesperson that the reference to a July release was just a miscommunication and was actually in reference to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Yeah, we're bummed out, too. -
Its rediculous that T-Mobile can even call their service "unlimited". After throttling its almost useless.
-
What speeds are you getting?
In Central AL, I get 1.5-3.0MBPS -
I bet your throttled speed is still better than my regular unlimited speed
-
I wan't my damn galaxy sII.

FTW, FTW, FTW, FTW, FTW, FTW..... -
Well normally, i get 3.0-5.5Mbps.
But after i hit the 100MB "4G/3G speed, limit" it gets throttled down to a solid 0.1Mbps. :| which is pretty useless, its bullcrap. I had a way to get around it previously but it looks like they changed the way they throttle
Dear god i hope not
0.1Mbps is worthless for use as home internet......... :|
Lol
no working

Looks like that rumor about a new Virgin Mobile Android phone was true; the Motorola Triumph is going to be released on VM.
It's got a 4.1" WVGA display, and a Qualcomm MSM8655 processor. I'll let HAL explain whether that's good or bad
It also has a 5MP main camera with flash, and a VGA front-facing camera.
If anyone cares to read any more: Virgin Mobile welcomes 4.1-inch Motorola Triumph, brings Froyo to the prepaid side -- Engadget -
Get it! .
-
They haven't released a price yet...given that the Samsung Intercept and LG Optimus V are both $200, I will literally eat my own shorts if this thing is less than $300.
-
I will give you $100 towards the purchase of said phone if you film yourself eating your shorts and let me upload it to youtube.
Cool looking phone. It's becoming slightly appealing to move over to the prepaid side of the force. -
Lol
$200 is pretty much MSRP price for those phones AFAIK... so if this one follows suit... itll probably be more like $400, $500. But we'll have to wait and see, you could sell your current phone for a chunk towards the new one
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's a great phone... If Moto hasn't done their dastardly deeds to it. It's got the same internals as the Desire HD. Same SoC.
Except Moto saw fit to include an HDMI out... which is really something I wish more phones had.
I wouldn't be shocked if it's slightly under $300, or just slightly over.
Meanwhile... Another Droid X has found it's way into my possession. OMG, I hate this phone. -
This picture is relevant...
Really? I wouldnt think it would be that cheap unsubsidized -
The green guy obviously wins.

Well ofcourse! Green > Red.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
There's really not too much to the MSM8655 Qualcomm SoC. It's more of a budget SoC right now, actually. I just find it really interesting that Motorola chose a Qualcomm chipset and not an OMAP. It's not characteristic of Motorola. I just wonder if this signals something... -
Virgin Mobile's phones are technically subsidized, although not nearly to the extent that contract carrier phones are. For example, the Samsung Intercept I have is available on both VM and Sprint's contract service. I paid $200 for mine on VM with no contract. Sprint contract customers could get it for like $50 subsidized with a contract renewal, but getting it off-contract with Sprint was way more expensive than with VM; something like $400 IIRC.
-
Ah ok, interesting @ both
-
Tried the Honeycomb port for my phone just for the hell of it
pretty cool i have to say

AT&T Attain (aka the Galaxy S II) outed by Samsung on Facebook | Android Central
Hope this is just the infuse.. as I rather like the physical button on the gsII -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
AFAIK, that's an engineering sample. Notice there's no Samsung logo, there's no chrome accents, the power button is moved up, and there's a camera hump on the back. Those were all changed in the final revision, to the device you can buy today.
Or that's actually a Canadian bound device. The Canadian carrier Bell has 850MHz 3G networks and always gets the same devices we get from Samsung, except theirs usually don't have logo's all over them. But even being a Canadian device can't explain the camera hump.
EDIT: I was looking at the images wrong... That second image may actually be another design prototype... ? It's not anything I've seen so far. But I'll ask my Samsung rep Monday morning... -
Riddle me this: my phone no longer has a lock screen. When I hit the power button while it's in sleep mode, it just turns on already unlocked. I've tried a few reboots to no avail.
WidgetLocker's lock screen works, but as soon as I disable it I have no lock screen again. -
Look in settings, i know some ROMs (namely Cyanogen) have an option that turn off the lock screen completely, like your saying.
Also, The Triumph will not have Motoblur
you
need to get this
-
There are no settings like that; as far as I know my settings are completely stock, and I haven't messed with them anyway. >_<
-
thats really weird...
do you have any nandroid backups to restore from?
-
Nope. But there's a new version of my ROM out anyway, so I think I'll just flash that and hope for the best.

^That usually solves quite a few problems... especially when you wipe data/factory reset and not keep and of the old (possibly corrupted) files.

This is going to sound very noobish, but I was under the impression that one could only put "semi-custom" (for lack of a better word) ROM's on Motorolas other than the Droid 1 due to the bootloader. Have they managed to unencrypt it?

So I got a my touch 4g now and its pretty cool, its my first smartphone so im not complaining. im typing on it now and its pretty smooth currently using wifi but got 2gb dataplan..

Do you mean iPhone 4? iPod Touch isn't a smartphone...

How much did you get it for? -
Oh!
*pacefalm*
That's what gives for not living in the USA i guess

Woohoo the EVO 3D will be coming with an unencrypted bootloader
Should be getting it the end of this month or next month
if all goes well.

The phone was $129 after rebate as far as the rate plan goes, it's a family plan but it was something like $129 mo. + fees/tax for two smartphones and one dumbphone sharing 1,000 minutes, unlimited text and 2GB data @ 4G/Unlimited data @ 3G speeds.
Roughly, the same cost as the previous AT&T plan with no data, the AT&T plan would have cost more with data added on plus a lower cap and less minutes.
Oh well, T-Mobile will be AT&T in a few months, but we'll be locked in for two-years, whatever happens after that, we'll deal with it then. -
^ Pretty good price for the phone

So what's the best way to put music on my MyTouch4G? I have all my mobile music in a main folder which contains sub-folders divided by artist names.
I tried DoubleTwist but it won't let me sync a the specific folder I want, instead it automatically gathers all the music on my computer, much of which I don't want on my phone.
