Well, 'dev' would've sufficed - I thought it was an app or something...
-
Ironically ive used all those things on my phone before, and I never knew who made them

Here's an interesting one...
DeskSMS - App.net -
Seems cool. I'm currently using MightyText, pretty useful
-
I'm hearing 2.3.5 will be out this week, any idea if there is anything other than 4g fixes in it? Maybe HAL would give some insight?
-
I just wanna ask this : Are there any programs worthy of a phone root? Because if there isn't a wide variety of good programs that require a root, I'll leave my (future) Arc alone.
-
Titanium Backup.
Root Explorer.
Recovery.
They're all must-haves IMO, though that presumes you wish to customise your handset. -
You'll need root access to install any custom ROM's, as well as remove pre-installed system apps or bloatware that you don't want. Custom recovery is always a nice thing to have anyway, even if you don't want a custom ROM. You'll also need to be rooted to tether via WiFi.
Honestly, I would root unless you have a good reason not to. -
Ah, I see. Root doesn't interfere with ANYTHING, right?
@Step It doesn't interfere with SEUS, does it? Also, have you found a way to root the Arc with the 2.3.3 update? -
IIRC its just something for the Speakerphone
-
SEUS should work, so long as you don't unlock your bootloader.
The only thing is that if you use SEUS to update to 2.3.3 ( if you have a locked bootloader), you won't be able to root your handset.
You need to root using Gingerbreak then update OTA to retain root access.
The only handsets that can be rooted on 2.3.3 just now are ones with unlocked bootloaders. -
Should be able to get my Evo 3D soon! (Similar to HTC Sensation for those not in USA)
Hope HTC Unlocks the bootloader soon
-
God damn it I am so sick and tired of this piece of crap Intercept.
I was in the process of typing a message (with Go SMS Pro), and suddenly a popup window shows up saying there's been an error and asks me if I want to email a report. I close the window and restart Go SMS, and all my messages are gone. Every single thread from every contact I've had a conversation with since I got this damn phone, just wiped. I tried rebooting, nothing. I opened the default Android messaging app, and they're all gone.
Any idea what the hell just happened, and if there's any way to fix it? -
What's an OTA update?
So, it goes this order : Root in 2.3.2 -> OTA update to 2.3.3 -> root again? -
OTA = Over The Air. Android phones can get updates w/out being connected to your computer, they download over your phone's data connection.
-
Ah. But is there any way to download the 2.3.2 in case I want to go back to it if rooting 2.3.3 doesn't work?
-
What happened to that Motorola phone? (Triumph or something i thinK?) Is that still a possibility for you to upgrade to?
No idea really... but I cant think of any way to get it back. -
Yeah, you just use FlashTool.
-
It's $300, I won't be able to afford such a huge purchase for a while.
-
Anyone know how to remove the clock/time from your statusbar?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's mostly bug fixes, 4G WiMAX performance enhancements, and NFC software updates. It also contains a new radio for GRJ90.
On a phone such as your Intercept, I would keep a Nandroid backup going every few days. Maybe once a week or something, that way when catastrophic things like that happen, you can just restore everything the last backup contained.
AFAIK, there's no way to fix it. You can try uninstalling GoSMS Pro, booting into recovery and wiping your caches (app and dalvik)... and see if that helps anything.
In Gingerbread you have to decompile SystemUI.apk and it's in one of the XML's labeled "statusbar". It used to be in one of the framework jars, but they moved it to SystemUI for easier OEM modification.
EDIT: it's in res/layout/status_bar.xml
Delete this line:
Code:Well, damn. I can't cut and paste XML code here.
-
I decompiled my SystemUI.apk, it didn't have a line that said 'Well, damn. I can't cut and paste XML code here'

I kind of wish it did...
-
Ah hell, spilled water on my nexus. To the ricebag it goes, any idea how long I have to leave it in there?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I would leave it in there overnight... but then that's me.
I also put mine under a hair dryer or heat lamp to warm it up a bit before putting it in the rice... it dries it out quicker. -
Take the back cover and battery out too
just incase you didnt already
-
-
^ GSII variant with a keyboard probably?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Damn NDA.
-
Whatever it is looks very nice. I'd have to get used to that keyboard layout though...mine is considerably different:
-
Thats ok.
At least we know you can spill all the details when the time comes.
-
Thanks for the suggestion. I decided for now to just go with another Droid X for now. Wasn't quite ready to leap to a completely different device just yet. Migration to a another Droid X is extremely painless with a quick nandroid backup, root and reinstall clockwork, and restore backup.
Will definitely consider the Droid Charge though if this replacement craps out quickly. -
I hope my phone will be ok, but if it isn't back to 100%... does titanium backup/pro require root? Is there a better backup option out there? The phone is still under warranty, and somehow the water damage stickers were NOT messed up (they're still white, not sure how that miracle happened) so it's possible to get a new one should the phone be screwed. But since the water damage stickers aren't messed up, I'm thinking the phone should be fine?

^ The Droid X is it's 4th or 5th hardware revision ATM... it should be pretty stable compared to the earlier models... that were prone to random reboots.
Reason they rebooted was because Motorola tried to save battery life by undervolting the CPU, but the CPU wasn't at a mature process yet, and they just weren't stable with undervolts. -
Only if you're lucky enough to have it examined by a blind engineer
-
Yeah, I haven't had much of an issue with random reboots. I like to mess with the voltages myself, and use quickclock to find the sweet spots. I keep having issues with the headphone jack starting to wiggle and losing connection with my headphones or speakers. This is really annoying when I use it while jogging. Apparantly this is a known issue, but Verizon has been excellent about replacements (this will be my third one).

Verizon To Offer The First US Samsung Galaxy S II, Hitting 08/12?
:O If true...I'll literally take off work and wait in line XD...doesn't pan out with their typical release schedule (thursdays...) though. -
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Breaks Cover As QWERTY Slider?

. I just want my untouched gs2 for att

Very nice! You're doing really well! When I voted it was at ~409! -
No love for QWERTYs?
Voted Iain ^^ -
I have undying QWERTY love, mainly because I can devote the entire screen for content instead of having half of it be covered up.
-
If verizon gets an untouched gs2, and ATT gets the QWERTY version... they are just being cruel to me and you. Seems like a sick joke. lol
-
Thanks.
The only problem is that the top three go through and whilst I'm currently 3rd, the 4th-placed entry is catching up...
Thank you. -
Any word on a GSII for Sprint?
I'll possibly be switching to them this week. If a GSII is coming out in a month I'll hold out for that instead of the Evo 3D
