PM me your email. -
Thanks.
What is Pool Party btw? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's a photo-sharing service. Google purchased rights for Pool Party from Slide... it's supposedly going to get Picasa/Google+ integration here soon. -
Oh wow, that's the kind of apps I need... HAL, could I also get an invite please?
-
I *really* hope it's 4G and that battery life isn't compromised too badly. If so, it will be mine!!
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Sure, PM me your email.
-
Aww man I wish I had my android already!
Waiting for the Galaxy S2 to come out in the US. And when it does HAL, i'll be asking for an invite xD -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I can go ahead and send you an invite for the service, then when you get the GS2 or if you already have an Android phone or iPhone... you can grab the Pool Party app.
For those of you wondering, go to poolpartyapp.com
You can still have an account, without an app.
-
 to be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if that were the case haha.
Hah! It's nice that there's a choice. That doesn't happen too often me thinks.
4G seems to be a double edged sword. The lack of decent battery life is the killer for me. IMO i'm getting barely acceptable battery life on 3G, let alone LTE. Couple that with the fact that I'm content with 3G data speeds for the most part, and I'd be just fine with a 3G Galaxy S II. -
Looking things up on my brother's Thunderbolt is so nice! Then again compared to my Motorola DROID, everything seems fast. I usually get a 2nd battery since I'm at the hospital for more than 12 hours a day and usually need both batteries to sustain (my DROID) all day, so I can take the hit in battery life from 4G as long as it does better than my current phone's battery life.

So, I'm impressed. Sprint may actually be the first US carrier to debut the GS2. No small feat coming from what my rep tells me.
-
I made a change so I could listen to pandora over aux (no mic but the one built into the phone) and receive and answer phone calls without any modification.
Settings>Call>TTY mode> select TTY VCO
Might be different depending on what version of android and what UI you have. But it works pretty well ( not perfect) and Im quite happy. -
Hmm... I may wait another month for this now... Since its already passing through the FCC... should be available soon

Wow, the GS2 is so good! It's MUCH better than the arc!
I am happy.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
So you have a GS2? No Arc? -
*has not clicked* please have a keyboard..please have a keyboard....
Interesting, looks like all the ducks are falling into a row for a august release.
You should definetly hold out...it'll be so worth it..
:O curious minds want to know..did you get it?
EDIT: Ian/step, I voted for you yesterday, just forgot to mention it here.
-
Yep, I did!
Yep. The reason why my parents bought the Arc was because it had a huge discount with "points". And now, the Arc isn't in the point catalogue, and is again 450€. But the GS2 IS on the point catalogue, so I got it because it had a big discount!
It's awesome
-
Took long enough right?
Yeah i will try i think
If not, in a month the Evo 3D's bootloader
should be unlocked
-
Well even if you get rid of the bootloader issue, the GS2 is superior to the evo 3d in almost every ... if not every way.
-
The HTC will have better GPS
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
IDK? They fixed the GPS in a BIG way since the GS1. But... HTC phones have never let me down in the GPS dept. EVER. -
GSMArena's head-to-head on the Galaxy S2, Sensation and Optimus 2X picks out the GPS as a weak point on the Galaxy S2.
The Sensation gets a fix faster and is more accurate. -
Yeah, the CPU that's a bit faster and better screen would be nice to have
I dont give a crap about the 3D
I've never seen Sprint have a phone over $200, so as long as it wasnt I could afford it. The only problem is whether or not i get anything is someone elses decision and it would have been better to do it now
so I'll see what i can do.
As long as it's better than the GS1's GPS... its ok with me XD. Though i do have fully working GPS on mine, its alot more trouble to get it than it should be.
It's not too important to me, even my GS1 (with modding
) is accurate enough for GPS while driving. I dont need it while walking/biking. So it's something i can easily look past
-
I'm praying for the Galaxy S2 to drop for AT&T! My phone just broke and the longer i'm without a phone, the more giddy I am for the GS2!
-
A working GPS is pretty important to me, after dealing with the frustration that was the Omnia's GPS after Verizon unlocked it. I'd literally have to sit my phone outside on my porch 15 minutes before I went anywhere and use a third party GPS fix app just to get a GPS fix so I could use Bing turn by turn navigation. (Surprisingly good btw, although they ruined it for wp7 - now it doesn't talk unless you tap the screen..) it was pretty frustrating.
I thought the main issue with the galaxy s 1's GPS performance was because they originally tuned the GPS to work in tandem with skyhook's location service but Google became mad and forced them to remove it at literally the last minute. (Samsung actually was told to recall devices that had shipped)
This time around they would have known about Google being ...well...Google, so they hopefully wouldn't make the same mistake again. I hope. -
I don't know about Skyhook, I was under the impression only Motorola were courting them.
I think a more accurate description of the issues with the original Galaxy S's GPS are more that Samsung farked it up.
I mean, if you've been having problems with GPS on Samsung handsets all the way back to the Omnia, do you honestly think that Google are somehow to blame?
The Galaxy S2's GPS is supposed to be a solid improvement over the original Galaxy S's but still nothing to shout about.
You can read for yourself here. -
The GS2's GPS is very good. While outside, it tracked me in a matter of seconds.
@HAL Why do some GS2's score higher than others? Do they have different Exynos? Mine scores 3200. All stock. -
Why do any two CPUs of the same model produce different benchmarks?
That's just the way the manufacturing process goes. -
And inaccurate benchmarks
-
Nope, Samsung did as well, and Google even admitted that Skyhook was a superior service to their own...it was all about protecting themselves (which is understandable from a business perspective) over their partners' interests.
How Google controls Android: digging deep into the Skyhook filings | This is my next...
Not saying that Google's soley responsible though, because your right about the GPS thing on the Omnia.
That said, if there are reports of bad GPS on US market models, I'm out. I simply won't tolerate such a otherwise perfect device with a glaring defect such as that. Life's far too short to go about exchanging phones and stuff, and I'll be locking myself into a contract for far too long to deal with such a glaring defect. -
Not great ≠ bad.
-
 not great could be someone else's bad
...ok I'm stretching.
If it's as good as my Motorola Droid's (decent but not great) then i'll be happy. -
'Decent but not great' seems to sum it up - it gets a fix alright, it's just not quite as good as some of the competition.
-
If you using it for driving, its not a big deal, as long as it can tell what road your on and what direction your going in. If you walking/biking then a little more accuracy would help.
-
Ah, nvm. Just got 3414 in Quadrant
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Anywhere from 3200-3900 are normal stock numbers for the GS2. Since quadrant weighs heavily on NAND R/W speeds, if you have several apps open you'll see your quadrant score drop accordingly. IMO, that's one of many reasons that quadrant is flawed. Try Smartbench 2011 or AnTuTu.
So, 2.3.5 is a bit smoother than 2.3.4... especially with multitasking. I wasn't really expecting more performance...
EDIT: Anybody seen this?! Galaxy S WiFi 5.0
-
Isn't that called the Galaxy Player?
Also, whilst I know the blogs I read can run some pretty dumb or biased stories sometimes, at least they don't publish crap like this... -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
T-Mobile is finally rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread to myTouch 4G users!
-
Yeah, the blogs were wondering where the hell it's at in the staes? It's sold in selected European countries but no news here.
It would be sorta perfect for me...I could go back to a dumbphone if need be if I wanted to save some money.
Yeah they changed the name a while ago...but oddly Samsung has two or three different pages with different branding regarding the Players. It's weird.
TC sucks...I always take what they run with a big grain of salt. -
Anyone used 'Ghost Armor' screen protectors?
-
If the ATT version of the gs2 is not the same as the international version, I am thinking about importing the white one:

I just think it looks really nice. -

Guess what? AT&T's GS2 is on Engadget... just cleared FCC Certs.
-
Haha, love that gif!
The GS2'S battery is pretty good I must say. Recording + watching = only 5% lost!
Thank God I got the GS2... It's so great! Also, how do you change the keyboard mode to swype? -
To change the keyboard, in any text field tap and hold in the field, select "Input Method" from the dialog box, then choose "swype".
Btw, you'll want to add a proper closing tag around your blue highlighted text in your sig.
