Well, it'll probably replace my "meh" camera firmware that I updated from Samsung Apps, so I'm keeping my hopes very high![]()
FYI : DON'T update with the Camera Firmware on Samsung Apps. If you have already the pink spot ( you'll see what it is ), then update. If you don't, don't update![]()

Yes, I know that, but I heard it was community made?
Also, I really hope they do release it in Portugal AND in Kies... I'll be mad at them if they don't
-
Ok will do
Can't wait for Wednesday

Yep... Mostly. If you've never used CM7, you're missing a LOT. But it has to be handled by competent devs to make sure it runs decent on your device. Since atinm is one of the GS2 devs, he has it running just fine.
LOL. That's not how Samfirmware releases work. You might see a 2.3.5 update on KIES in a couple of months. Samfirmware releases aren't supported by Samsung, since they're betas... but they ARE official Samsung software, just with a possible bug or two. -
I know I'm missing a lot...
It's just... The darned warranty... Wanting me to void it... So tempting to install CM7...
Ah, but in which method does Samfirmware release the betas? That 2.3.5 update in kies in a few months is going to be full or beta? -
Screw warranty

The only flaw I've noticed about this Triumph is that the GPS seems less reliable than my Intercept's. Sometimes it will get stuck on "Searching for GPS" while I'm trying to use Google Navigation, either for a few minutes before finally locking on, or it just won't work at all. From what I've read, though, there is a fix.
And rooting was as easy as entering three lines in Android Terminal Emulator

Hallelujah, I have seen the light! -
I got an app called "GPSFix" that really does seem to work nicely on my Triumph. Apparently, by default the phone doesn't spend a lot of time actually searching for GPS satellites, and this app forces it to. I had no trouble locking on today.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
@Mastershroom... I meant to ask you, what are your data speeds like on the Triumph? I'm guessing better than your old device....

Who else is waiting for Samsung Droid Prime/Nexus Prime for its October launch? I feel like a loser waiting for a "rumored" launch date but I am no near satisfied with what Droid Bionic offers, especially the screen.
-
I'm not waiting waiting but I'm giving serious though to getting one or maybe a Galaxy Note.
-
I'm waiting. For me, it'll be between the Stratosphere and the Prime.
-
Not great, but still way better than I ever got with the Intercept. It's still limited to 3G due to the network itself. And I can actually play TF2 via tethering now; ping is usually between 100-200 instead of 700+. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Try a location that's geographically closer to you... if you can. The way cellular networks work, the city that is automatically picked is, most of time, not the best one. -
The closest server is actually significantly worse
-
Not bad, I guess? H+ network. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Ish! I guess speedtest.net was actually picking the best one! Still, wow. VM needs to get with the program. -

I have a serious security question guys. Is it any at all possible to take remote control of an Android phone via WiFi and/or the cellular network, use an app to post a status update without my consent and leave no trace?
Bluetooth and 4G were OFF. Only thing ON was WiFi and cellular network. -
Yes, it's possible.
Android has been facing lots of malware and RC software lately... Popularity has its downsides, right?
-
Anything to back that up?
-

I haven't installed any apps that have had less than 50,000 downloads or less than 4 stars. I don't even have that many apps installed and most are official like facebook or youtube this has been since I got Gingerbread freshly installed...the maybe...just maybe most questionable app I've installed was the Aphrodite Love Advice app but even that had a ton of downloads and I uninstalled that a few days ago.
I'm just really freaked out right now. -
It's much more likely you were simply fraped.

It was a link that HAL posted a long time ago talking about controlling Android phones remotely through WiFi, around in May. I don't remember the link, but here's another one : The Mother Of All Android Malware Has Arrived: Stolen Apps Released To The Market That Root Your Phone, Steal Your Data, And Open Backdoor
-

It's not possible, I was walking with my phone in my back pocket when it happened. I was alone too within the timespan that it occurred. When I sat down and cracked open my laptop, I saw the unauthorized facebook status from five minutes ago. It was a random joke quote, nothing really relevant about it besides the fact it mentioned photography which is a hobby of mine. I know correlation doesn't imply causation, but I still NEED to know how the status was posted without my authorization
Also, a couple days ago I set my facebook privacy settings to only allow messages from friends, today when I checked when I rummaged through my account to see if anything had been vandalized, I found a message in my "Other" messages folder from an account that had been deleted but apparently sent only five hours ago. How was this possible if facebook was set to disallow messages from non-friends?
-
@Kris...For the sake of leaving no stones unturned, have you checked through your FB app's permissions? (On FB, not the phone) It could just be FB spam.
I don't see how that has anything to do with usapatriot's issue though.
-
The hacker must've stolen his PW and/or got in the Android FB app?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
My application settings on facebook are:
So no, I don't allow any apps because I'm aware they can spam through your own status updates. I'm not a total buffoon, lol. But how would they get into my fb app? If they got into that, does it mean they can get into other apps/data? -
That is what I called far fetched.
I know you aren't an idiot, but just to make sure.
Next, check through you phone app's permissions? See if any of them have access to your FB app?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Would it specifically say that an app has permission to access the fb app? I'm searching through the permissions of the most questionable apps, which really aren't that questionable, nothing yet...is there any kind of log I can access that may have some of the phones actions archived or something?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Possible? Yes. Probable? Not even slightly.
Remote access apps don't usually work over a cellular network because most all carriers block those ports. They work over WiFi, but not cellular. It is possible to commandeer a device or steal data off a device, but it's very, VERY hard to get usable information, simply because of the way Android stores it's data.
I would say look elsewhere for your issue. Reset all your credentials. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
First thing I did was reset my credentials, thing is the status update specifically stated is was uploaded from "mobile". The phone I have now is the ONLY phone I've used fb on and I've been the only owner.
I was in a lounge, with a lot of students on the public university wifi network. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
If it says from "mobile" then it wasn't from your phone if you use Facebook for Android. It would say "via Facebook for Android". At least mine does... -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Nope, just checked past statuses made using my phone and they all say "from mobile". I am using the facebook app from the market, there was an update this morning for it if that says anything.
I downloaded and ran Lookout Mobile Security and it didn't find anything suspicious, it also has that privacy adviser feature that tells you what apps have access to what and I saw nothing questionable... -
Yep, "Mobile" refers to status updates sent via text message, often from "dumb" phones that don't have an actual Facebook app, or even a mobile web browser.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
That's so weird, I am using the latest Facebook app from the market on Gingerbread 2.3 and all my mobile statuses say "from Mobile" instead of "Sent via Android".
-
And who says it was from your phone?
Aside from the fact it normally says something else when you're using the Android app, nothing about 'from mobile' means it's come from your phone, just a phone. -
I hate Amazon Marketplace - the few apps I've actually paid money for like Root Explorer and WidgetLocker are all on there at lower prices.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The devs hate the Amazon Marketplace too.
-
Might this be the the i9200?
Samsung Focus S Samsung Focus Flash. - www.SamFirmware.com -
Surely they're getting the difference made up to them by Amazon?
Or are they simply agreeing to let Amazon sell their apps for less? Because for the likes of WL and Root Explorer, I can't imagine they need to.
That is one stupid comment someone's left on that article... -
That break sure was fast...
-
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I'm not sure about the exacts of the arrangement... but I know that the devs don't like it. They only put their apps there because it's another revenue stream.
Also, it seems Google is getting really serious about Android.

Is there any way to add options like reboot, recovery, etc. to the power button menu? I have the Quick Boot app, but it would be nice to not have to launch an app just to reboot.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Those have to be added into your UI frameworks, through a decompile-edit-recompile. It's not difficult, but I wouldn't say it's easy.
No app I know of can modify the power menu though... -
Is that a nice way of saying not difficult, but too difficult for me?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL! Definitely not for those who've never decompiled a UI framework. There's a crap-ton of stuff in just one of them, and Android has several. -
hah! I'm no sound quality expert so id probably not mind it. One thing i hated about my current phone is how flat everything sounds. No bass at all, my Sansa Clip sounds better for music.
Interesting, I usually read GSMArena and Phone Arena for detailed phone reviews, i'll have to give anandtech a try.
