Hell, I pay $25 a month for a plan with unlimited data through VM.
-
Unfortunately, Sprint's coverage in many areas is horrendous
-
Darn, and just like that, I'm out of the Prime race.
...stupid heater core...Y U NO FIXED B4 I BOUGHT CAR?!? -
Speaking of which, I got an e-mail the other day telling me T-Mobile are going to be putting a £105 credit onto my account - this is the same account that is already in credit to the tune of ~£50.
My line rental is ~£10/month and I only have 11 months left on my current contract. -
Installing Ubuntu on my phone
Not sure if ill ever actually use it... but why not?
Ah that sucks :/ -
Soooo...free phone service pretty much?
-
Exactly - I won't have to pay a bill at least until I upgrade.
-
Hey HAL, any idea how to do this for my phone?
-
If you have CyanogenMod 7, you already have a similar feature available. Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>Interface>Notification Power Widget. You can add as many as you'd like, though for me, anything greater than 6 will require scrolling to access some of them.
-
unfortunetly no CM7 yet for my phone
Cant wait for it
-
I just installed CM7 to my Triumph...it's supposedly the last alpha build and most stuff is working.
Gotta say, it's pretty awesome so far, except the damn installation wiped all my contacts...that's never happened when installing a new ROM before. And to make it worse, it wiped the backup I made on the SD card, so now I can't import them...well, there go a few hundred contacts. >:/ -
Here is a link to leaked specs of the galaxy nexus from a good source, I think. If this is correct, I'm very glad I waited on it.

Simple decompile-edit-recompile.
If you'd like I can modify them for you...
Sign into the market. Your contacts will re-sync from Google.
-
That's one of the first things I did. Any way to force a contact sync?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Look under Accounts & Sync in settings then check the sync contacts option. If you don't get any contacts sync'd, then you don't have any backed up with Google.
In which case, I'd pull them from your Intercept, or see if any are left on your SIM by changing what contacts are shown in the Contacts settings. (Contacts>Menu>Display Options) -
Syncing contacts just pulled a few hundred email addresses from my Gmail account, most of which haven't been used in years and just cluttered the crap out of my contacts list. Managed to undo that, thankfully...
The Display Options were all checked, nothing was hidden there. I grabbed what was left on my Intercept...that's the vast majority of them, although there are a few numbers that I've added and changed since getting the Triumph.
I really don't get it. Installing a new ROM has never destroyed my contacts backup. I exported my contacts to SD right before installing CM7, but when I tried to import them, it said there was no vCard. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Have you looked on the card in mass storage mode to see if there is a contacts backup file? If there is, you can upload that file to GMail. That will add your contacts to the cloud and sync them to your phone.
EDIT: Where did you get your CM7 package from? I'd like to look and see what the installer is formatting... -

[ROM][WIP][Alpha] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition; kernel: Mine] 10/12 - xda-developers
Anyway, I just spent the last 20 minutes manually going through 100+ contacts and re-joining them with their Facebook profiles. One issue though...the photos aren't syncing, except for literally two out of over 100 contacts. On the Intercept, and on the Triumph until tonight, joining contacts with Facebook would automatically use their FB profile photo as their contact photo on my phone, which would appear in Go SMS Pro conversations, for example.
Now the photos aren't appearing at all, even if I go directly to their Facebook page and let their photo load and try to re-join them. But there are two contacts out of my entire list with properly synced photos...nothing else. How do I fix that? -
A guy with 5 posts is a 'good' source?

If you had read the post, you would have seen that he was quoting someone talking to a google employee.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Depends on what you used to back them up... Did you use the stock Contacts app and export? Or use a backup/restore app from the Market?
The Facebook integration requires the app for SNS Account sync abilities. That will provide the contact photos.
From the package you linked, this is what's being formatted:
That seems to be ONLY your /system partition. It shouldn't have touched any of your SD card contents... your backup should still be there somewhere.Code:format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p7"); -
I'll let you think about that for a while so you can realise why that smiley shouldn't've been used.
-
I understand what you are talking about. I used that mainly because I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I know it can be fake. You can believe and trust what you want. Don't criticize others though.
-
Ah well...I found a Market app called Syncmypix that does pretty much exactly what I need. I let it log into FB and it automatically applied FB profile pics to my contacts, except for about 5 contacts whose FB names don't match their names on my phone.
Now, what's a good launcher? I've been using LauncherPro for the longest time, but I really like the stock CM7 launcher; the app drawer scrolling is the smoothest thing I have ever seen. I installed LauncherPro again, but the app drawer scrolling is noticeably not as smooth. I would keep the stock launcher, except I don't like the dock; 3 unchangeable icons isn't good for me. I really love LauncherPro's customizable dock...I wish there were a way to combine the stock app drawer with the LP dock. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Try "Gingerbread Launcher" from the Market. It's the AOSP Google launcher.
It's unparalleled in smoothness.
-
What's the developer? I'm seeing a bunch of entries for "Gingerbread Launcher", most of which are reviewed poorly or claimed to be uninstallable malware.
What launcher does CM7 use by default if not the Gingerbread launcher? It's a Gingerbread ROM, no? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
CM7 uses ADW Launcher. It's never been a smooth launcher for me... always choppy.
IDK about the Market versions now though. I just looked at them and I wouldn't really trust them. Here's a package I just made that has the AOSP launcher compiled by moi. It also replaces stock Android fonts with WP7's Zegoe font. Very nice looking, IMO... This package replaces ADW though, so if you want ADW back, I can make you a different ZIP or you can download it from the Market. ADW is open source and resolution independent, that's why CM7 uses it. Google's AOSP "Launcher2" only works right on HDPI devices at 480x800... which is your resolution.

Thanks...that's the thing, though; the CM7 launcher I have is extremely smooth; by far smoother than any of the Market launchers I've tried.
I downloaded ADW Launcher earlier, and it's nothing like the launcher that came with my CM7. Way slower and choppier, doesn't look or feel anything like it. Like I say, the launcher that game with CM7 would be perfect with a customizable dock. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Son of a gun. The person that's compiling those CM7 builds isn't keeping it true CM7. O_O
I wonder why he's purposefully using Launcher2 when ADW gets built right along with everything else in a fresh compile. Hmm... For it to be merged into mainline it'll have to be done with ADW.
He was using Launcher2 from the start... I dissected the package a bit and looked at what was in there. So you wouldn't need to flash anything, you're on the stock Google Launcher. -
Yeah, I kinda guessed that much.
Is there any way to customize the dock with Launcher2? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Not by the user... that I know of anyway. There are some customized versions on XDA though, that can replace the Browser button with Messages or another system app. Aside from that it's really not that customizable.
It's just smooth as hell, that's why I keep on using it. LOL.
EDIT: So, the Captivate Glide will be dual core Tegra T20h with 1GB of RAM, slideout keyboard, AND Wolfson WM8994E audio. If only Tegra had Neon. I still genuinely want this device though. -
Alright, I'll look into that. What I really want is a 5-button dock, with the phone button (since the Triumph lacks an actual physical button for that), Navigation, app drawer, messaging, and Facebook. Are there any dock-customizable add-on launchers that are anywhere near as smooth as Launcher2?
-
It's hardly criticism to call something what it is.
-
What is this Tegra T20h you speak of? O_O
I use Launcher Pro, it's relatively smooth ( I have the same internal chips as you do). And you can customise the dock.
From a long time ago...
-
^ so WP7 like D:
I use GO Launcher. Its almost like the features of ADW and Launcher Pro Combined, plus more. and a ton of animations, love it
I'm in the process of making my own theme, i will post my screenshots of it with my launcher, etc when done
-
I've never had any issues with ADW or any of it's derivative launchers.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's the tablet version of Tegra 2... it comes with a faster clocked GPU.
GO Launcher is super smooth, and probably every bit as user configurable as Launcher Pro... but Launcher Pro has more themes, I can guarantee it. Step666 even made an award winning one! (Idiot Box)
Well, I've not technically had any problem with them, but there are smoother alternatives. Albeit less function packed, but smoother. -
What I meant was that I've never had any issues with smoothness with ADW.
It's not quite on a par with the SE launcher on my Arc/Ray but the slight difference is worth it for the extra features.
Also, the screenshot in question was ADW as well - the site may be called LauncherPro Icons but the only stipulation was that the screenshot used the site's icons.
Both Fede and Ander Webbs were involved in the judging as it happens. -

Dammit. My Samsung Galaxy Player 5 shipped today. Now I should be happy, but at the time I pre-ordered from Amazon (I have Prime) they only offered Standard shipping for free or Next Day for a fee. I chose standardj, assuming 2nd day I guess. But today, when it's available they have free second day shipping so if you bought it today, you can get it by Wednesday. I may not get mine until next week! If I had known that I would not have pre-ordered, just waited.

Anyone try this?
Want Siri On Android Try Iris | Land of Droid -
As far as launchers go I use stock because my phone's slower than a snail.
-
Root it, clock it, and then ready to go?
I've been running my original Droid on 1GHz for 6 months with "interactive" power scheme, and it is actually bearable in terms of speed.
Btw, my sister ditched her Droid Eris and bought Samsung Stratosphere today. She loves it so far and the battery life (1800mah) seems to hold reasonably well for a 4G device. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's not so much the CPU speed on the OG Droid as much as it is the ROM/RAM space. There's just not enough.
Sidenote: Seems Samsung will be using the RFS filesystem with the Galaxy Nexus.
-
Laucher pro is awesome, EVEN on my HTC Hero OC's at 700mhz!!
Smooth as butter!

Video not available on mobile, JOKE'S ON YOU!

Really? My OG Droid heats up pretty significantly even on stock clocks.
I use GO Launcher. I tried LauncherPro and it worked well, but I didn't feel like futzing with it and I thought GO Launcher looked better off the shelf. I would never go back to the stock Froyo Launcher. The ICS launcher looks sexy, though. -
I have mine overclocked and undervolted, as HAL says, RAM is the biggest issue. There's no greater joy I have than watching my phone take a full minute to bring up the dialer or GO SMS for example.
Glad to hear your sister likes the Stratosphere
Yup, I have 11 apps waiting to be updated but I just can't update them because there's not enough space.
:| Really?....it's as if they completely forgot why they DIDN'T use it again in the first place.
EDIT: Gahhh! :haha:
Yeah I get the heating issues as well, seemingly random, but when they do happen the battery life plummets even more than the horrible battery life I already experience.
GO's nice but I find that it uses more resources than plain stock. I've even gone as far as cutting off the live wallpaper in an attempt to make things smoother. Next step is going to be removing all widgets from the homescreen except for maybe a agenda/calendar widget I use and the clock. -

Why couldn't they have used an OMAP4470?
