Nice![]()
To clarify actually i actually only have 4 physical cores, plus 4 virtual. and 8GB RAM.
Whats ChromePlus?![]()
-
I've got a Q6600 and 4GB of DDR2 RAM, so I'm pretty happy with my score.
ChromePlus is an off-shoot of Chrome with a few extra features.
It fixes a couple of niggles with Chrome that had bugged me when moving from FireFox and apparently it also completely removes all anonymous feedback to Google, which must be a good thing I figure, not that I'm bothered really. -
Ah ok nice
I used a Chrome spin-off before when i had problems actually installing chrome

Meh, I'm not too worried about it. Gorilla glass is nothing more than a brand name, as most smartphones these days come with some sort of reinforced glass anyway.
-
^ Agreed. Especially with this announcement, I'm sure shortly, people will be testing the glass on the Galaxy Nexus like no tomorrow.
-
Really? I'd prefer to have a tested glass product from Corning.
Plus... Gorilla Glass sounds better than DragonTrail.
-
Samsung and Google wouldn't be using a type of glass on the flagship ICS handset if it wasn't tested.

Are there any Android phones with traditional numeric keypads? My girlfriend wants a new phone and she likes my Triumph, but she doesn't like QWERTY keyboards or on-screen numeric keypads. She types a zillion words per minute with T9 Word on her old clamshell phone, and she'd rather not give that up.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
LOL. That combination is one I've not heard of... -
I know that phones with traditionaly numeric qwerty's were a form factor in the Windows Mobile days:
I personally used this (a HTC Faraday/Cingular 2125) for quite a while until i accidentally sat on it and broke the screen.
Twas my first smartphone (obtained through eBay, yay!) and I cut my teeth with flashing custom ROM's on it too, upgrading it to Windows Mobile 6 and later 6.1.
I still have it lying around somewhere.
I liked how solid it felt though, had a nice heft and solidity typical of HTC handsets of the day. -

Note that's the i90 23, not the i9020. This version has a regular SLCD vs S-AMOLED on the i9020. Still a pretty good deal though! -
Verizon throws Galaxy Nexus signup page live, claims exclusivity -- Engadget
NOOOOOOOOO!!!
I really hope it will be sold unlocked directly from google with ATT bands
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It will be, I guess not immediately though. Risky move for a Nexus device, I must say. -
Come on guys, it's about time Google shows some love for Verizon, after being left of the Nexus One and Nexus S!
I can't wait to post a picture of Galaxy Nexus on the "Post Your Last Purchase" thread. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
It's not Google's fault that Verizon is CDMA. It's only the rest of the free world that's GSM/HSPA.
That and I really don't care for Verizon's phone prices. A 2-year WITH a $300 device? I think not. That goes for the Nexus and any other high-end VZW phone. -
Those phone prices are inline with all other high end smartphones. Keep in mind $300 devices like the Bionic, RAZR, and Nexus come with 32GB of storage.
Guess what else is 32GB and $300? Yep, the iPhone 4S. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The 32GB isn't internal on the Bionic. It's 16GB with a 16GB microSD. Big difference there. A 16GB microSD isn't $100. The Galaxy S II on AT&T is $199. If I need more storage, I would rather purchase it after the fact for a MUCH lower price.
The Nexus and Droid RAZR are debatable, IMO. They all, including the 32GB iPhone 4S, should max out at $250, then at $300-$325 have the 64GB iPhone 4S.
TL;DR = NAND isn't that expensive anymore. -
I actually agree with HAL on the price. Even a year ago $200 was the price for most of high-end phones, throughout all carriers. I'm just hoping that Galaxy Nexus will be available on third-party resellers such as letstalk at lower price. The only reason I'd purchase it from Verizon would be to use $30 credit from new-every-two program (which they used to offer $100).
-
I got my Galaxy s2 through att for $150.
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yep, and on Amazon it's $149 also.
$299 is a bit ridiculous. If it was only a 1yr contract, I could see that. But not 2yr. -
Wait, you guys bought your phone under contract, for less than $200?!
Over here, it is 500€, which is like $600... I got mine for 300€-$400, because I bought with "points", and it got me a discount. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
What kind of contract do you have though?
Ours are 2-Year with a forced data-plan.
-
Fortunately, you can choose your plan. No restricions. Currently, I have 1GB free internet, and unlimmited calls + SMS. 30€/month.
-
Here, something like that would cost well over $50 per month. How long are you locked into a contract, and what's the penalty for premature contract cancellation?
My Triumph cost me $300, but I also don't have a contract, and it's the best phone Virgin Mobile sells. Their other Android phones are the Samsung Intercept ($99), LG Optimus V ($129), HTC Wildfire S and LG Optimus Slider (both $199). Not quite as good as you'd get with contract carriers for the same price, but it's worth it for $25 monthly no-contract service with unlimited data and messaging, if you ask me.
And I certainly have no complaints about my Triumph; I love everything about this phone, and it's only gotten better since I got CM7 on it. -
Didn't Sprint get the Nexus S?
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
After a while. The GSM/HSPA version was on sale a LONG time before the Sprint CDMA/WiMAX version dropped. The CDMA devices are usually one off devices, like the Droid Charge/Bionic/X/Continuum.
I just wonder how much Verizon paid for this. They only wanted it because it's publicity for their LTE network. -
If the American GSM carriers weren't complete crap in the Northeast, I might consider using one of them. As it is, Verizon has has the best coverage in Massachusetts and the rest of the Northeast, CDMA or otherwise.
-
I am loving the latest update to WidgetLocker - having the Honeycomb lockscreen on my Ray is just really neat for some reason.
-
Never even knew this app existed, I thought you had to root to change the lockscreen.
-
It's a really brilliant app and the latest update bring Honeycomb, ICS and Sense 3.0 style launchscreen options.
It's one of a handful of paid apps I would say don't even need thinking twice about - Root Explorer and Titanium Backup are the other two. -
Yeah, WidgetLocker is pretty cool...I wish it would take effect immediately on boot though; when I reboot, the stock lockscreen is there for about 30 seconds before WidgetLocker kicks in.
Since I've installed CM7, though, I haven't even bothered reinstalling WL since CM7 has its own customizable lockscreen. Not quite as many features as WL, but it's got the customizable sliders that I used anyway. -
Also using the new Widgetlocker
the ICS lockscreen is awesome.
I got my SGSII for $99
with a 2 year contract.
-
Yeah, same here. It's like, incredible! Using a mix of stock android slides + Honeycomb. So sexay
It's a 2 year contract, but you have total freedom to change plans. I don't know what's the penalty fee... -
Any suggestions for a good task manager/killer?
-
Juice Defender Ultimate, best one out there if you are willing to lay down 5 $ for it!
Btw @ Phistachio and Mastershroom ; I pay $70 a month for unlimited SMS, 200 minutes of call and 500MB, worst thing about this? It's a 36 Months contract.
This was the first and last time I agreed on a 36 months contract >.> -
None. Android doesn't need it.
-
Why do you say this? What about those apps that don't close themselves when you exit them?
-
Because Android, when needed, closes the tasks by itself
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Android uses a value system for running apps. They call it OOM. The higher OOM value the easier and faster the app is closed. Most third party apps are high OOM value, so the system will close off that app immediately when memory is needed.
Task managers, if used with Gingerbread, can actually decrease battery life... because the apps that don't close will auto-respawn when the task killer closes them.
EDIT:
-
I'm jealous Hal. And thanks for the info everyone. My task manager is now uninstalled. Now to root to get rid of all these dumb at&t apps.
-
If you're worried, you can always install Spare Parts - it's not a separate task manager, it just tweaks Android's own task management, allows you to make it a bit more aggressive.
But depending on what handset you have, it may be completely unnecessary.
Also, if we're going to compare mobile phone costs...

LOL, nice

So I've pretty much decided that I prefer the Note to the Nexus.
It's out in Germany tomorrow and here in the next few days.
Now I just need to find a way to swing a free one

Very nice indeed. If the size fits your needs!
-

Swing me one while you're at it...lol. -
I'll cope
If I could, I would but so far my only hope seems to be through Samsung's training site, where I might have a chance of winning one.
