Yep, law.
Unlocked = SIM unlocked.
GSM carriers are by law, but I'm not sure on the technicalities for CDMA carriers. I'll check on it though!![]()

Still branded though, right?

Yes, still branded. -
Verdict on phone so far: I love it. I like the screen size and i'm getting used to the larger keyboard.
If you're out there HAL, I'd love it if you could upload/link to the social networking app/widgets.
Weird...apparently some functionality exists in the contacts app's "activities" tab...its kinda bizzare
EDIT2: Ok im linking contacts and facebook together..kinda annoying and wish the process was more automatic. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nice!
What is your firmware and baseband version? -
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I405.05.V.EI2
EDIT: alright I think I got it sorted out...social networking's somewhat odd on this device. There's no real dedicated "app" per say. Elements are baked into the other apps where they sort of make the most sense. I tested out updating my status from the contacts app's "My Profile" screen and it worked.
On the activities tab of the contacts app, you can look at the news feed and comment from within it. But you can't like posts or send messages or poke from that screen. If a post has a photo or weblink, it brings you to the web version of facebook mobile. weird. Contacts that are linked do show any facebook albums the contact has in their contact card: tapping there brings you to...again..the web version of facebook mobile.
Finally, on the history tab, it combines recent facebook chat history with text messages and phone calls. You can filter out phone calls and such, and you can reply to facebook chat/messages here. Oddly, one cannot start a message from this screen or a contact card.
It's OK but feels disjointed in some ways, especially since other Galaxy S devices appear to have more through integration. -
I was intrigued to see that Amazon Wireless has the Droid RAZR for 111.11, and then disappointed/irritated that that price only applies to new VZW customers. What is that crap all about? For a c-note, that's an impossible to beat price.
-
Isn't that the same for all third-party phone retailers in the US?
The deals only ever apply to new customers.
It's like the UK was 5-10 years back, no reward for loyalty. -
Yeah, but usually it's like an extra 50 bucks on a phone nobody wants. A ~60% discount is absurd for a brand new phone.
-
I was sure there'd been plenty of other deals through Amazon and the like on desirable handsets, the Droid Charge for example and the deals they have sometimes when every handset is 1 cent.
-
Not sure if this has been posted before, but I recently came across this on youtube. Pretty amazing stuff.

But again, only for new customers. A good way to reel them in but not great for those already who are with them. I heard a rumor a few weeks back regarding a new loyalty program, but I'm still waiting from VZW to see what it entails.
-
Yes, that was my point.
hockeymass commented on the RAZR deal as if it was unusual but it's the norm. -
My point is that it's usually not this good a deal. Like, I haven't seen anything for the Bionic.
I know that they always have great deals for new customers, I just haven't seen anything like this. -
No, of course, this was a gimmick because of the date but equally the deals aren't just limited to crappy handsets like you suggested.
-
Damn, I though the Desire Z (T-mobile G2) was a easy root like the Samsung devices I have.
Ugh. This phone is loaded with bloatware. -
Anyone got any idea what this is bout?
-
What's so hard about it?
Downgrade software version, use automated tool. If you have questions, do ask I have rooted/s-off/unlocked a bunch of them.
-
Automated tool? This does not look so easy: [GUIDE] Downgrade G2 (2.3.X) & DZ (2.3.X) & mT4g (2.3.4) & DHD w/ S-ON to Stock Froyo - xda-developers
Plus I did mention that my head hurts at the moment, consequence of my drinking problems.
@Step666, Google music perhaps? Google Music “These Go to Eleven” Announcement coming November 16th | Android Community
I'm not sure how reliable this website is though. -
Some sort of music service would make sense but I thought they'd already launched it
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
They have an "online locker" of sorts for your library, but this is going to be a music store... similar to Amazon's store. -
Or possibly a subscription service.
-
Damn, It appears I got a random rebooter on my hands...I caught it just randomly turn on the screen then go out just now. Tried hitting power to bring it on again...no dice until I did a battery pull. I noticed it suddenly reboot in the car and thought nothing of it, maybe the edge of it hit something in the console that hit the power button just right was my logic.
I might have to wipe the device and run it w/out any programs for a while. grrrr. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Hummingbird has been proven to have some pretty bad yields sometimes. Certain batches of Captivates, particularly the 1008 batch, had no 3 button recovery mode and their CPU's were extremely intolerant of overclocking... and would freeze during normal operation a LOT.
If you look under your battery on the label, look for a 4-digit number. It should be right above the SKU. That will be your batch number. You can use that to determine what batch your device came from and when it was shipped. Earlier batches are usually better. The Captivate started at 1007 and went through 1015. The Infuse is 1104-? -
I have the following on my label:
Model; SCH-i405
SKU: SCHi405LKV
FCC ID: A3LSCHi405
A tech support phone number
Made in Korea
11.09 405V
The IMEI
I'd assume the 11.09 is the number you're referring to right? -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Yes. I would check some forums and see if other people can chime in with theirs to give you a sense of where your HW stands. Yours could be an earlier build... since this is a very recently released device.
EDIT: It could be different for CDMA devices... let me check.
EDIT2: I'm guessing yours in like this:
-
Nope, it's like this:

I'll probably end up throwing up a post to see what other's have to say. It's no immediate need, just have to ensure I get it turned in w/in 14 days if i'm not happy. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
I see. You don't have a batch number then.
It should be perfectly stable at all times. If you have random reboots at any time, you should exchange it. -
Does Exynos have the same problems or was it just Hummingbird?
edit: so, plan 'try to get myself a Galaxy Note without paying a penny' is now under way - in ~6 days I'll know if it's been successful or not. -
I'm contemplating getting the Razr. Has anyone gotten it and can give me some impressions? I took a look at it the other day and kinda liked it. Can't say I'm a fan of the moto ui still.
-
Good luck.
Just got conformation of my order. They just got them in stock at the site I ordered at. Should get it this week. -
Thanks.
The prize draw ends in almost exactly 5 days and 15 hours.
It costs 50 points for one entry - I've gone all in with 59,650 and any more points I accrue before the draw are going in too. -
Who thinks getting the Razr is a bad idea then?
-
I would have gotten one at the 11/11/11 price, but at 250 I'll just wait for the Nexus.
I don't think it's a bad phone, I just think that Blur crap + a locked bootloader so you can't get rid of it + no ICS != $250 bucks worth of phone. -
Saw the RAZR display piece at BB today... I really like the form factor and if it gets better battery life than the SGII... I think it might be one of the top Android handsets. But we all know that it will be supplanted next week by the Droid RAZR 2S Prime Plus  .
They should have really gone old school and made it a flip phone. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Exynos doesn't seem to have yield issues like Hummingbird did. Plus Samsung bin'd their Hummingbird CPU's as well. Every Infuse I've tested can very easily and stably overclock to 1.6GHz, which is it's max without also overclocking the bus. The Captivate did good to O/C to 1.2GHz with any kind of stability.
GOOD LUCK!! I'm getting me one here soon... hopefully.
The media would have burned them at the stake.
-
ICS source has been released!
-
Yay! So it's around 2-4 weeks from now until we get Cyanogenmod with ICS or an ICS port to the GSII
-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Also Honeycomb source!! Very interesting!!
2-4 weeks?!
I've got to get my repo's syncing.... -
Thanks.
The odds are in my favour, I think but it's still a a prize draw, so it's far from guaranteed...
Well the reason for not releasing the Honeycomb source code is gone now that ICS exists. -
I got the razr by the way.
-

I hear you complain about overlays all the time, yet you buy a Blur device. Interesting.
Why? -
It's a nice phone and I think I can get over Blur. Still trying to figure out if I'm going to keep it though.
The main reason was because I switched from AT&T to Verizon and wanted 4G since I'm in the neighborhood and all. But I am feeling massive buyers remorse. -
I don't know if you guys have already seen this. This looks great!

That's the timeline I was guessing, since ICS is so hot at the moment and almost all devs want to get their hands on, so it's gonna be quite fast.
-
I always feel huge buyers' remorse with phone purchases. The only things worse for me are car purchases (obviously) and computers.
-
Well, it's official, SE are bringing ICS to every 2011 Xperia handset from the lowliest handset in their range to the very top.
One heck of a publicity coup IMO. -
-
Buy 2 batteries, problem solved
Less battery life is worth it for that huge screen
