Let us hope that ICS does some magic to the battery life. :/
-
Speaking of battery life... you REALLY have to stay on top of it huh? My phone went from 100% to 40% with cellular data off and background sync off with Smart Actions. Holy cow.
-
Within how long and what did you mostly do with the phone? Even my OG Droid lasts 1.5-2 days with everything except Bluetooth and WiFi on, with frequent texting, emailing, and occasional web-surfing.
-
From about 11 or so last night to 7 this morning. Cellular data, bluetooth, and background sync was off but wifi was on.
-
Well there's your answer.
-
That's crazy. I miss my iPhone now. =s
-
@kaelang:
Did you have the same battery issues with your Nexus or Droid? -
Make sure Wifi is set to sleep when the screen is off.
Settings > Wireless > WiFi Settings > Menu Key > Advanced > Wifi Sleep Policy
Something's definitely wrong there. I can leave mine unused for 8-9 hours and only go from 100% to 92-94% IIRC. -
Same here. What ROM and what android version are you using?
-
2.3.4 on ViperROM.
-
No reason fro wifi to drain the battery like that.
Try this, leave it running for a bit so the log can build up. Then check the battery usage history log. Also check which part of the system used the most battery.
Settings -> about phone -> battery use
Narrow down the cause first because battery draining overnight isn't normal. -

From looking at source code for various devices, WiFi is nowhere near the power hog that other components are. The only time that WiFi is actually guzzling battery is when it's in discovery mode searching for a new network.
Actually, and you wouldn't think this, but the compass is a very large power draw... as is GPS. Bluetooth is only a big power draw when it's on and connected. In sleep mode Bluetooth's power draw is negligible.
Oddly enough, the CPU is the most power efficient piece in a smartphone. The worst is usually an AMOLED screen displaying white. AMOLED displaying a white background consumes several times the amount of power that an LCD takes to display the same image... and is the sole reason the Galaxy Note gets such poor battery life when using the browser. -
Between the horrid battery life and the tendency to drop the 4G signal around 2 bars, and the fact that the thing takes FOREVER to lock onto either 3G or 4G, I really think I might take this guy back and just get the iPhone. I have it all customized and whatnot and I really like it, but all the cons of this phone are really stacking up.
-
Yep, also using 2.3.4, but am on Stock.
-
GSMArena's review of the Galaxy Note is up.
And given the Note is brighter than the likes of the Galaxy S2, it can only be worse. -
A Galaxy S II can also get 4100 EASILY with CM7. And as the Note is also OC'd, it's natural that it is higher
I believe that color depth and contrast ratio =/= brightness? -
I'm not sure where you're going with this...
-
I'm going nowhere... If you are implying that I either want to start a flamewar or a debate between both phones, you are mistaken
I was just stating that the GSII can still be compared to others, even comparing to a better one such as the Note, even having the same SoC but OC'd. -
No, I didn't think you were trying to start a flame-war, I just meant I wasn't sure what your point was.
All I was pointing out was that AMOLED's natural power consumption issues with white pixels must surely be exacerbated by the fact the Note's screen is even brighter than others'. -
Galaxy Note = bigger screen.
Bigger screen = better.
Done.
-
Code:Oh, I see, sorry for the miss-interpretation!
My point was that the GSII can still pull up amazing scores, even compared to newer, and better phones. + the Note has a higher res, so it just proves that the GPU is a little bit better than the GSII.
Well, as the AMOLED panel doesn't have backlight, it all comes down to what you said. So I believe that the power consumption will be the same as the GSII, because it is SAMOLED HD, and not SAMOLED+, so the HD evens up the +. But of course, that might be wrong. -
I just try to make as much as my interface as i can black
Saves battery life and looks good to me since I like black.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
The 5.3" S-AMOLED HD screen panel on the Galaxy Note will consume MUCH more power than the GS2's S-AMOLED+ on white backgrounds, partially because of the sheer size of the display. It's a bigger display with physically larger pixels than the Galaxy Nexus, and there are a lot more pixels on it than the 480x800 panel on the GS2 family.
One could bring the power consumption of the AMOLED panel down quite a bit through various kernel hacks, but you'll be taking away some of the brightness and possibly the stability of the device. You can limit brightness levels and undervolt the panel through kernel modification, but what Samsung has set in the Note's kernel source is probably the lowest level tolerable by all Notes. -

If you're in the UK, you can get a Galaxy Nexus at 8AM tomorrow morning at Phones4U.
You can thank Verizon for us not seeing it here in the US yet.

First happy Galaxy Nexus customer isn't so happy, wants to exchange it -- Engadget
The clickbaiters at engadget strike again! -
To be fair, it looks like he got a borked phone - not surprising if he bought it from Phones4U.
-
He obviously did, but there's less sensational ways of saying that than what they did. The headline implies that he's not happy with the phone itself, making no mention of any problems with it. Just par for the course with engadget, really.

Specs are out for the Galaxy Nexus for LTE...
Galaxy Nexus
+.53mm in thickness, +100mAh battery capacity, +15g weight.
(Still no release date) -
Anyone who have experience with SPB shell 3D from Android market?. Is it good? My phone is SG2
Thanks in advance -
Anyone know if the bootloader on the Rezound is locked or not?
-
I would estimateyes, and who knows if verizon's given HTC their blessing to unencrypt it using the web tool.
-
Finally, tapatalk support! My android phone is even more complete now.
Sent from my samsung galaxy s2 using tapatalk -
This is not good, not good at all.

Apple, the world's largest patent troll.
-
So this means that our locations will be shared/passed by Apple servers?! Even Android and/or Symbian/WP7?
Wow. Simply wow. -
No, what it means is that Apple could potentially challenge location service providers like Google the same way they challenged Samsung on the Tab.
-
They finally got the Tapatalk plugin installed on NBR! I'm using it right now
This beats the crap out of the mobile skin
Sent from my Motorola Triumph using Tapatalk -
Oh crap, bunch of lawsuits incoming for sure... Apple's just scared of the Android OS. They know it's better than iOS in any way ( ICS ), so they're using external means to take down their enemies... Sad.
Why would you use a mobile skin? I always use the NBR Style skin. -
But it's $2.39 D:

I believe it's free on GetJar.
Or it was... I'm not sure ATM. -
The Verge has their Galaxy Nexus review up. HSPA+ version, but if the LTE version comes out as good or better, I'm sold.

Software... 10
Performance... 10

Pretty certain it's 'was' - doesn't seem to be on GetJar as far as I can see.
Not worth paying for IMO. -
I'm going to make this point here instead of the WP7 thread a) because I reckon there are more people involved over here and b) this place is likely to be more hospitable...
This article was linked-to in the other thread: Nokia Lumia 800 is Phone of the Year | Nokia Conversations
I personally found this quite interesting:Meaning that it was voted phone of the year by a load of people who had never even seen one in the flesh, let alone used/owned it. -

I wonder how many people confused the Lumia 800 with the N9? -
Probably no-one.

I know this isn't android related but: LG Cosmos Touch - Help Remove Daily Scoop, Please!! - Page 4 - Verizon Wireless Community and: http://www.vzdailyscoop.com/
Really?!? Verizon, go die in a fire already. As if finding a decent non smartphone for my brother wasn't bad enough, but for you to load it with literal adware? brilliant....ugh.
If the forums you use run Tapatalk, it's worth its weight in gold. I'm on 3 that use it.
I could see it being an unnecessary expense if say NBR were the only one you visited though. -
Just received my note today. First impressions-huge. Impossible to mentally prepare yourself for it. It is a very nice device. Anything I should install that you guys think is necessary or fundamental in making it better?
-
Why did they give 9/10 for the display? It is definitely better than iPhone 4S's which got 10/10 for display, and there is no better option out in the market.
-
Because it's entirely subjective. To them, the 4S's screen is better.
"Generally, I'm in love with the Galaxy Nexus screen, though it isn't exactly perfect. As with the Nexus S, I noticed some color aberrations and odd striations which were visible when there was a large swath of solid, lighter colors visible (a plain gray background, for instance). This problem seemed less obvious when the brightness was a bit higher, however."
I have a similar complaint about my Razr screen. The colors and contrast are great, but I still think the Retina display is "safer".
In general, I don't consider larger to be better and I doubt they include screen size in their metrics. My interest is in the quality of the display and not the size, which is something some people fixate on way too much. Screen size has nothing to do with screen quality. A bigger screen does not mean the display is better, it just means it's bigger.
